I just got my new Cingular 8215 and love it. I am on the road and the ability to access email is fantastic. However, I have found that I have to scroll through a LOT of Outlook contacts before I make it to my SIM contacts when dialing a number.
I know that I can just start dialing or typing a name (smart dial), but it would really be nice to ONLY see my SIM contacts when scrolling down the contact list when dialing a phone number.
Most of my Outlook contacts are only email address, so it is a waste of space and time for dialing!
Any ideas/suggestion/comments?
Thanks!

I just received my shiny new XDA II and I was wondering is there an easy way to dial phonebook entries which are stored on my SIM card?
I notice when you press the Green button to start the phone application there is a button at the bottom to go to the Contacts list (sync'd from Outlook).
I have a hundred or more phone book entries on my SIM card but I notice that when I hit the call button it gives me the option of choosing people out of my synchronised Outlook Contacts list but to call people from the SIM card I have to bring up the SIM Manager and click and hold and select call from an entry which seems cumbersome. Is there a nice easy way to have a combined list of Outlook Contacts + SIM Phone Book entries with a simple click to call mechanism?
I also notice for received calls and SMS's the Caller ID thingy doesn't look at any of the phonebook entries on the SIM card to translate numbers into names - can this be fixed as well?
OR alternatively if the only solution is to have everything in Outlook Contacts then is there a nice easy tool (preferably freeware) which takes all my existing SIM phonebook entries and converts them into Outlook Contact entries?
Thanks,
Rodney...
Ok: when you are in "SIM Manager" select "Tools" and "Select all".
Tap and hold anywere in the window and select "Save to Conctacts" in the pop up that will appear.
I hope this can help you!
Yep - I found that a few hours after making this post - but thanks for that anyway...
So is the general consensus that we shouldn't use the SIM based phonebook at all but rather have all entries in the Outlook Contacts list?
Copying SIM entries to Outlook
I've use the SIM toolkit to 'add' my SIM contacts into my XDA contacts, but when sync'ing with my PC, the new contacts claim to xfer over, but don't appear in my PC's address book. ActiveSync is set to xfer contacts.
Any ideas what might be wrong, or are there tools that will upload the SIM data to Outlook in an easy manner. I appreciate that SIM contact info is limited by the SIM.
Thanks, Hamish.
Hi,
A friend of mine has an 8125 and he can dial directly from Outlook (Calendar, Tasks, Email). Outlook for some reasons interprets numbers as telephone number and underlines it, so he can click on it and dial the number directly. On my 8525 I see this capability in emails, but not in calendar, where I really needed it. Whenever I have a phone number in a calendar appointment or task its not underlined and I have to copy and paste it into the phone application. Very cumbersome.
Is there a setting on the phone that automatically interprets the numbers in the calendar and underlines it for direct dial out capbilities, or is that something that needs to be setup on the Outlook server?
BTW this applies to appointments made on the laptop as well as on the phone.
Thanks for any help.
in the appointment's note: tel:xxx-xxxxxxx
It'll work.
Nope. Doesn't work.
It is strange that all numbers in emails are automatically interpreted as phone numbers and are underlined for direct dial out, but appointments don't.
sorry guys i've just copied my sim contact to phone contact but when i open contact there's a sim contact data and phone contact data
ijust want to know how to hide the sim contact data cause it's very disturb me and make me confuse
displaying data
my solution for your problem is that i synced all my contacts to outlook then opened the editor in outlook and changed the catagory for all the on phone contacts to personal, then when displaying contacts on phone i just filtered it by catagory
hope this works for you
thx i've just want to try it
Check post no. 4
i have installed this on my HTC touch and i no longer see the sim contacts in the contacts list.
I am having an issue with sense storing text messages from the same numbers under separate threads on my TMOUS. One thread for the Sim contact entry of the phone number and one thread for the HD2's stored contacts that I have imported from the SIM...Its really annoying.
In the phone tab you can easily change "View" to Contacts so that you don't have to look at duplicates of every single entry every time you enter your phonebook but when I compose a new text message there is no way to have the sense only show me the HD2's contacts. It always shows me all the duplicate entries of the same numbers SIM contacts and as well as tabs for the same contacts that were imported to the device.
In order to not lose my contacts permanently, do I have to save my SIM contacts externally, import them to my phone then delete them off my SIM in order to have my phone contacts (which are superior to SIM bc I can load them with multiple numbers email addresses, etc) be the only contacts and threads sense makes in the messaging app???
There has to be an easier way to resolve this? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for the help...
Is there a way to show only contacts with phone numbers in my contact list? I have a lot of email contacts and I don't need to see them all, I just want the phone number contacts. Is this possible?
