M3100 running sloww - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I've done a hard reset and stopped all the Orange software from loading. However I swear my phone is just way too slow. There's normally at least a second wait after you click on anything before it does something, tomtom is taking ~45 seconds to launch being the worst.
I know WM5 is slower than WM3 but is this really right?

Unattended random soft resets? Help!

So I'm a stickler for stability and it drives me nuts (we all have our weird problems ) when things don't run stably.
i.e. I take very good care of my Windows XP PC, it's been running for 12 weeks straight now without needing a reboot, power down, nothing. Rock solid. I love it.
I'm running the Cing 8125 with the new QTEK AKU2 ROM. It's been running pretty well but I'm having the same problem I had witht he original Cingular ROM.
For whatever strange reason and ONLY when I'm not using the 8125, it seems it will soft reset which makes it impossible to pinpoint the cause. I know it has soft-reset because
a) My memory is back at like 23MB free which is what I have after soft-reset.
b) None of my apps are running anymore - duh!
c) Best of all, I have a today plug-in that keeps track of uptime so I know EXACTLY when the soft-reset happened.
I can't understand what would trigger it, when I'm actually using it, the device is fast and solid. I'm not running any crazy apps that I would think could lead to this unstability.
How long have you gone without a soft-reset? What's bizzare is the most recent soft reset happened this morning at exactly 1:00AM!!!! What are the odds of a random reset happening exactly at 1AM? No, I don't have any notifications, alarms or anything around that time.
Here's the uptime meter I'm using if you want to try it out:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/uptimemeter.shtml
I wish it would soft-reset when I was using it so I could at least know what was causing it.
The same is happening to me, although it soft resets once every 2 weeks or so. I must say I turn off the device every night, but it has happened to me 3 o 4 times since I installed de Qtek AKU2 ROM.
Any solution?
I mentioned this once before on here. I catch mine doing it at night sometimes (in the day its usually in my pocket so I don't know if it does it there).
I've only seen it a few times, maybe once every 2 weeks.
The odd thing is, that when restarting after it's random soft reset, it doesn't require me to enter my pin code. It's almost as if it knows that it's been naughty and was hoping I wouldn't notice
Maybe it's a "feature" of WM5??

TomTom 6 slowness on an m3100

Hi guy's , have got an spv m3100, running a copy of tomtom6 on this, works ok, apart from one thing, the sound is ok, tells me to turn at the correct moment though the visual is a couple of seconds behind, tried the software on another pda, worked fine, but on the spv , its driving me literally nuts; any suggestions please!, I do apologise if this may have been already posted.

I had similar problems on Magician. There are similar problem reports for other devices (MDA PRO, Qtek 9090, Qtek S200) but no explanation or solution yet.
I have reverted to TomTom5.
Did Tomtom 5 work more efficiently?
I use TTN 6 on my TyTN with both the HTC and Cingular ROMs. It is amazingly fast on all 4 ROMs. To put this in perspective I cam to TTN from iguidance v3 and night is drastic enough to describe the difference in speed. TTN launches instantly and performs without hiccups while multitasking the TyTN. Iguidance took between 10 s and 3 min. to launch, and when/if it did the program was quite sluggish. I said all that to say that there is probably some software conflict or something causing your TTN problems, because I simply don't have any problems with TTN.
I have TT6 running nicely on my Tytn. There is a slight lag with a sudden change of direction, but that was the same on TT5. Overall, v6 runs better, the startup time is a couple of seconds instead of the best part of one minute!

On my i-mate Jam definitely yes. The startup time is more or less the same but during navigation the map presentation is quite fluid while TT6 is really jerky.
TomTom 6 on SPV M3100
Ive been using TT6 for about 3 weeks now on my M3100 and i dont have the problem with the directions being slow but i have found that maybe 1 in 3 times i start the software it hangs and i have to hard reset the device. ive reinstalled the software several times and also replaced the device and still get the same problem?

The only occasion i've noted is that after TT6 start on my SPV M3100 I have to wait ~20-30 seconds before I can start to push a buttons on TT6 interface (navigate or settings). If you do it straight ahead after you see the first navigation screen, TT6 hangs and the only way out is to do a reset.
Just be patient. Wait ~20-25 seconds after the main screen appears and there will be no problems. It happens to me only when the big map file is loaded (whole Wester Europe, for example). If i have a smaller map loaded (Franc only for example) i do not have this timeout problem at all.

Patience really is a virtue! Thanks for your help.....
Don't bother with a reset if the TOMTOM 6 hangs, just hit the RED call end button then just tap the icon in the bottom right of the screen to bring TT6 back up. I have just allocated a button for running TT6 and if I need to re start it I just hit the button again, works a treat.....
I have had a problem that on a long jurney (80 miles or so) TT6 will hang after around 20 miles or so, if I then hit the RED end call button( I can actually hear the voice directions again at this point!!) and then just hit the tt6 icon (or in my case now just press the allocated button) all is well and it won't lock up again...
Further to this, although I have yet to prove this totally, if I run up TT6 then hit red call end button, then re run the software again it doesn't then lock up over the same journey as before.. spooky or what !!

How many random failures do you get a day?

I think I have a fairly unmodded phone...
Its still not unlocked, no rom changes, etc.
I just have programs like: PocketWeather, iLauncher and TomTom with a few simple additions like the new program that auto disconnects data after a preset time.
Well it seems very random, but when I fire off things like TOMTOM it just hangs, but not every time.
Not many. Generally speaking, when I'm having issues, it's my fault. But I do have issues with my OK button periodically disappearing, and sometimes non-responsiveness of some apps.
But, it's very rare. I usually do a soft reset every couple of days when something even remotely starts to act up.
Same with mine. I use the latest i-mate WWE ROM and find it stable.

Do you use Magic Button?
Nope. That's what's weird about it. I'll push the OK button on the front, but the app will still be up, and the OK button will disappear on the screen. I can usually get back to the Today screen by pushing the end call button though.
mine is now very stable. There is another thread that lists the "best" things to do to stop the periodic freezing. My 2c worth is on that thread also
I use Mortsaver to lock and close the device when i'm not using it. I think this results in a very stable device. It will wake up for SMS alerts and calls but for the rest of the time it's asleep - except when you are actively using it of course.
I also use SPB Backup at 05:00 in the morning which performs a soft reset after the backup. This keeps it clean too.
Defragging the Storage card and keeping as many apps as you can off the storage card also helps.
btw I use Magic Button
I only asked about Magic Button since I've noticed that the close button disappears sometimes in "Program Manager". It comes back again with a simple tap on the window background.
See thats the odd thing.... someone else told me to try and keep my unit's memory as clear as possible to avoid possible lockups.
Is the general consensus that its the other way around?
I have the vast majority of my applications saved on my storage card, granted I have tons of space on it.
I do experience frequent annoyances when using mine.
- screen alignment sometimes acting up (will send it back, but I'm waiting for the firmware update to be released, so they can do it together)
- mediaplayer occasionally loses the storage card (solved by deleting MSMETADATA on the card)
- occasional refusal to use an existing gprs/umts (have to disconnect and reconnect)
- vpn shutting down too fast when using it with wifi (after 30s)
- activesync sometimes doesn't recognize the device, forcing me to rename it and perform a whole new sync
- occasional difficulty in connecting to the correct wifi network (e.g. when there are 4 available, it pops up a couple of times that it has a network, but the one I always connect to is the last one to be found)
...
I have been using it for about a month now (was already sent back twice for keyboard and screen issues), and had to perform 3 hard resets as the behaviour got worse. I really like the device, but I wish there were less issues.

After seeing the specs of the Hermes, I wanted it immediately.
Last week I finally bit the bullet, sold my Wizard (Cingular 8125) and got the Hermes.
For the most part, they are the same device, with the addition of 3G and a supposedly faster processor in the Hermes.
The Wizard was about as stable as a Windows Mobile device could be, at least in my opinion. I really didn't do much outrageous with it. I had a couple of games, TomTom 6, a dialer skin, and Good Mobile Messaging installed. I'd have to reset it maybe once a week or so, sometimes less than that because TomTom would lose connection to the GPS and nothing would get it back save for a reboot.
I took my Cingular 8525 (Hermes) out of the box, and I was really impressed by the device. The keyboard is far superior even though it's only a little different. I like the styling of the Hermes better, as well as the nice gunmetal finish. Download speeds are incredible (almost 900K in my house), and setting up Good Mobile Messaging OTA only took about 5 minutes vs. 20 on the Wizard.
The only problem is the instability. Sometimes I click on the "Start" button and it will make the click noise and light up, but it doesn't drop the menu down, requiring a reset. Sometimes the phone will shut off the display and trying to turn the power back on does nothing and requires a reset. Sometimes the phone will show remnants of windows that were recently closed and that will require either opening up other programs to clear them, or a reset. Then there's the just plain ol' freeze. Not to mention that plugging in my car charger barely ever activates the charging circuit on the phone
I've had this phone for about 6 days now and I have to reboot it AT LEAST twice a day, sometimes three or four. AT LEAST. This is wholly unacceptable. If we weren't on the cusp of a firmware upgrade that is rumored to rectify most of the problems above, I'd be selling this and maybe getting a Treo 750 or a BlackJack.
I've had so many little issues like this with my Tytn, using both standard and latest roms, that I've simply decided to sell it. Its just not a great phone or a pda, although it has all the features you could ever dream of, it just never seems like its fast enough and the software just doesn't seem all that polished.
2-3 on a good day. It usully is in the range of 5-6 for different reasons. Keyboard doesn't respond, stuck on caps, no volume, random freezes, screen won't turn on. Gets annoying after a while.

Regarding the stuck on caps problem: if you select caps using the onscreen keyboard, then the physical keyboard is also put into caps. It is however not possible to turn this caps-lock off in using the physical keyboard. The solution is to open the onscreen keyboard, and turn it off there.

8125 versus Hermes
I agree with you that the 8125 Wizard was more stable than the Hermes. I had one as well, and it would go weeks without resets or freezes.
You said:
" The only problem is the instability. Sometimes I click on the "Start" button and it will make the click noise and light up, but it doesn't drop the menu down, requiring a reset."
I believe this is due to the external storage becoming lost. Since WM5 doesn't expect storage to ever go away, it just freezes waiting on the storage to come back. In the case of the start menu, I think it's waiting so it can get the icons of recently used programs. Just a theory.
To fight this problem, I've loaded weather programs and the like into main memory so that external storage is only accessed when I'm playing with the phone. That's made my hermes a lot more reliable, down to a failure or freeze every few days. Not as good as the Wizard, but tolerable.
I'm having a TON of problems...
I have my Cingular 8525 HTC
ROM Version: 1.34.502.1
ROM date: 09/21/06
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
I am having horrible problems with it randomly locking up, and I have to soft-reset. This usually happens when I have it on the charger overnight, and someone text messages me while it's on the charger... and of course when I soft-reset I lose all the messages! What's even worse is when it boots back up it'll vibrate, and beep for a long time like it's getting messages and I have to just ignore it and put it on silent... but there are no messages! Is there a way to fix this? What do I do?! I'm starting to get very frustrated with the phone - the only thing I use repeatedly on here is the MS ActiveSync over the air...
Do you think this could also be something to do with the variant?
I have Vario II from T-mobile, with all their stuff still on it, and I have installed/uninstalled goodness knows how much stuff, and don't really have this problem at all (touches wood). I can go for 3 or 4 days without soft reset, and then that is usually after a backup, when you have to.
I have all today screen and any software which is in startup, installed to main memory.
Also, could password screen have something to do with this? If on charge, and password protected, maybe they interfere with each other on receipt of text message. You could try removing password for overnight.
Have you tried leaving messaging running minimised overnight?
Also, have you moved any databases to storage card?

This is an interesting idea. I will leave the messaging minimized overnight tonight. The password screen is there as a matter of policy - through my work - since the company owns the device and they push policy to it which requires a password PIN to be entered after 15min of inactivity... I'll try that?
Anyone else having that weird sound problem with it repeatedly "pretending to get messages" after a soft reboot?

Are you sure that the sounds are messages rather than notifications?
It could be that your notifications queue is gummed up with lots of stuff. Suggest you get Memmaid or similar, download the trial and run the notifications queue duplicates remover. Then look at any of the entries marked Calendar and check to see if any of these are in the past. If they are remove them. LEAVE ALONE any notifications that are not Calendar with a description of one of your appointments or reminders.
Worth a try.
I also had some troubles. It freezes anywhere between 2 and 20 times per day. I just did a hard reset few days ago and tried to determine if any of my programs installed causes it.
It runs quiet well with nothing installed. Most freezes i get after installing SBSH WeatherMonitor.
About the sudden loss of external memory, i cannot complain. I install everything system related into the main memory. But weather and flexmail are on the card. I even take the card out having the phone running.
Not probs there.
Generally my Blue Angel is a far better phone, although bulky like my grand mother and not useful in Japan.
Thanks for the replies. After reading through this thread it seems I am not the only one with problems. Nearly every 8525 problem I've had can be solved, they just keep coming back. Like 8525 not recognizing Storage Card music. The worst for me ( happens a lot ) is that when I put the phone on the charger, then the screen shuts off to save power, but when I take the charger out the screen cannot be turned back on and needs a soft reset.

S200 Hanging every now and then

I have Qtek S200 for 3-4 months.
First I had wm5 2.20.7.34. The phone used to hang sometimes. Usualy if the wifi was on and I suspend it it will hand when I wake it up. The screen stays lit and no button/touchscreen works. The power button also wont work so I had to do SR.
I thought upgrading to wm6 will fix the problem and I tried pda mobiz 20.b3 and b4.
The phone still will hang sometimes. Finlay I installed Prophet Touch v6. Its great rom but it also hangs and sometimes its 2 times in a day..
There is no way to predict when it will happen but usualy its more often when I use Internet gprs or wifi. Most often when I use the wifi( I guess
I have upgraded to the latest Radio ROM but I cant see any diference.
So my question is, How often u guys get hangs on your prophets?
Is this normal?
Is there a way to make it work with no hangs at all or this is the way it is?
Im not using overclocking and the phone usually hangs when its left alone not while I use it.
In wm5 it usually used to hang right after I wake it from suspend while in wm6 I just cant wake it, it stays dark.
Well, when I had the original i-mate ROM I almost never needed to do an SR, unless I was really messing with it.
Then I tried PDAmobiz b4 and I got the phenomenon you describe:
Some times I would turn on the device and notice the clock was an hour or two behind and the device would not respond. Basically it hanged quietly and I didn't even know.
After suffering this for a week I changed the ROM to my current PDAViet 4.0.0.0.6 Touch and it seems fine so far (better then the original).
Perhaps a different ROM, maybe a WM 5 not 6 will work for you.
Also you should see what kind of programs are running in background on your device. Maybe one of them is the problem.
Actually I had the problem u described with the original wm5 ROM not with the wm6 roms.
The thing is that the original rom had many other problems and for this reason I dont want to go back to it.
For example I could connect with gprs without problems but after disconnecting I was unable to connect again. The device was saying "The answering modem has disconnected" or one of 2-3 other messages like that I was in a phone session and so on. The only solution was to restart the phone app...
The phone dialer was terribly slow. When pressing the dialpad buttons it was taking about a second for the phone to respond
Also I noticed that the same problem u described when the device freezes just after wakeup will generally happen if the wifi was left on.
If I switched it off I had almost no freezes.. but u know Ive got this phone to use its network capabilities and it looks like the network part was most buggy
All this is about the original wm5 qtek rom.
With wm6 I only have this case when the phone dont want to wake up. It just stays dark when I press the power button.
It will also freeze somethimes when I work but not very often..
Currently I use Prophet Touch v6 by gullum
I few months ago I have read that windows has some delay bringing up the sd card online after suspend and that this may cause problems if some program tries to read the Storage card before its online. For that reason there was suggestion to install all system and most used programs in the internal storage.
Now I have noticed that SPB Insight was installed on the storage card and I use its today plugin so I reinstalled it to the internal storage to see if this will help.
I have the same problem
Please help me to find out why my S200 hanging and hanging and hanging
i have got same problem in my prophet...my model is orange m600............is there anybody to help....

Rebooting issues

I have a trinity and until Friday loved it. Suddenly it has started to automatically reboot itself every 2 minutes or so.
I have loaded NO new software or changed any settings for months. But reviewing the drop menu I see 2 SPB software icons have now gone blank. SPB Traveller and SPBWallet. I assume it is a software problem even though have worked fine for 8 months.
I have deleted the software but still have problem. I also still have the two blank icons on menu.
Tried a Hard Reset but cannot reset. Tried a soft reset but will not action the reset button.
Absolutely frustrated as it just loops and even the old Hard Reset is not working. Anyone had similar or heard of a way to fix?
Den
Im having a similar problem with my spv m700 most of the time phone works fine then just reboots for no apparent reason (phone does it even when sat in car holder so cant accidently press a button). sometimes just does it the once other times it reboots 5 or 6 times and others it reboots a couple of times then crashes at the orange screen and has to be reset. mainly seems to do it while running tomtom but that could just be because it runs that most of the time anyway hasnt done it while making a call yet.
phone is running
radio 1.56.70.11
rom ver 6.1.21054
wm6.1 ceos 5.2.21054 classic edition by tomme45i (have tried other os versions but problem remains)
any help ideas would be much appreciated
Do you use bluetoth head set?
Is the software (spb) intaled on main memory or storage card?
no i dont use bluetooth and the software is installed in main memory
left tomtom off today and phone still reboots? so dont think its a tomtom problem also doesnt matter if the phone is pluged in or not still the same
