I did not see anybody asking this question so I thought I would ask. Here in the US I am on the Cingular 3G network. When I try to place a video call it does not work. It just disconnects. I was looking at the Video calling options and services. What is the service called needed for this to work? Has anybody successfully place and received a call on the Cingular 3G network?
Questions:
1. Are you in an UMTS enabled area, and are getting UMTS (little U)?
2. Are you calling someone else with a video calling phone (Tytn, etc)?
Yes to both questions.
Cingular is not currently supporting video calling. Supposedly they will be enabling this feature on their network by end-of-year...

I just tried this link and it did not find the page. What is the home page for her phone?
that is the home page address. I think it will only on a cingular phone.
Just an update. I compared my settiings on my 8125 to my Tytn and added the proxy. Now I don't get the error message about page can not be found anymore. It just shows a blank page. I'm guessing since I don't have a Cingular 3G phone that this page launches an app. But that's just a guess.
I should have posted this before. But I have a Slingbox and it orks great on the Tytn on the Cingular 3G network.
I read somewhere, I think maybe at this forum, that video calling is part of the UMTS/HSPDA/HSPUA standard, so it shouldn't be "turned off" or on. It should be just built into the system. Anybody know for sure?

After reading all the posts about this particular topic. Well I work as an authorized agent for Cingular and made a call to the network engineer for Central Florida. After talking with him about UMTS I asked about Cingular's UMTS network and video teleconferencing. His response was that Cingular's UMTS network is currently capable of video teleconferencing and explained to me that during one of the training courses they brought in the Ericsson team that is responsible for the UMTS network build out and they were performing video teleconferencing on Cingular's UMTS. He said that the only caveat was that both people on the call have to have phones that support video teleconferencing.
I dont think that's true .. Cingular doesnt support video conferencing right now .. from what folks have said .. it wont until HSUPA as the upload speeds are very less right now ..

It may be. I just got my info from a Cingular Network Engineer and the lead on the Ericsson team that is upgrading the network. According to them they are launching UMTS and HSPDA at the same time, verified by and article in RCR wireless news.
As I was waiting for a flight from PBI, I sat next a network engineer from Cingular, besides disscussing how the network is configured and stuff like that, he mentioned that my TyTN could video teleconference aslong as the person I am teleconferencing with also has a TyTN.
He played with my TyTN for a bit and was actually impressed at the speeds that I was getting from dslreports.

Alright then, lets try it. PM me with your phone number or however you want to do it and we can give it a try. I want to know if its the network or just 8525 that does not support it.
Later, Lew
The 3G network on Cingular is definitely HSPDA (at least in my area). I also can say that videoconferencing is something Cingular definitely will roll out. I assume the reason they didn't put the front cam on the 8525 is because they didn't want customers asking questions about a service that was not yet implemented (even if it is already possible).
I'm using the original shipping 8525 rom on my Hermes. Is there a different Rom that would support the videoconferencing, even if I have to use the regular camera on the backside of the phone?

The Cingular branded 8525 HERM100 does not support video conferencing as it lacks the camera and possible the software required to run it.
The TyTN does support video conferencing as it has both the camera and software needed to run it.
Dan
I just tried it with a guy that PMed me and it failed instatnly, just as I though t it would. We both have TyTNs.

Don't know if it's the same in US, but in Australia you have to have Video Confrencing enabled on your mobile account (Vodafone doesn't by default). Until I had our Vodafone rep do this we couldn't connect any video calls, once done we could.
Cingular's network is HSDPA out of the gates. That being said, I believe that you also need central switching gear to connect the calls as I don't believe its peer-peer.
Hi,
I've bougth unlocked Cingular 8525 and connected it to My local operator which support Video calls.
There is any option to enable video calls? (install tytn rom? or some extended rom)
Thanks ahead,
Omri

I search for info about missing video calls on wiki and forums, only what i found on wiki is:
Is the Extended ROM a must, or can I live without it also ?
You can live without it, but generally it fixes some things (video calling, skins, keyboard, operator settings, etc...).

...nothing more in hermes section, on forums also nothing clear response usualy same problem without no response
I downloaded different skin phones including original htc tytn and in HTeakC i turned on phone skin. When i turn on thc tytn skin video button is on the same place what speed dial and that double button is flickering.
More: when some one is trying make video call to me phone goes out from sleep and..... nothing. Other person hears only signal of waiting....
I also didn't had smart dial, but that thx to wiki wasn't problem.
But I didn't made any hard reset. If I would have to probably i will go directly to wm6, soon there will be xda-live3
If you have a Cingular 8525 you DO NOT have video calling. The 8525 doesn't have the front camera that is needed for video calling. Sorry
I know that i dont have front camera
But i ask if i can add video call's feature so i'll be able to see the other side or use the back camera.
Thanks,
omri

Some of us are having this exact same problem after upgrading to the LVSW WM6 roms. Don't know why as some others with exactly the same setup are saying that they work fine!
I wonder if this could be network operator linked instead?
edit: sorry, im using a TyTN and on T-Mobile UK

Just was curious if anyone had a solution to how I can enable the video calling feature in my Tytn.. Rogers wireless disabled it for some reason. I dont want to upgrade to WM6.. just to enable video calling in WM5..
DO i need to copy a cab file from another EXT_ROM?
Can i just copy the cab file over and that is all???
Help please!
Does Rogers even support video calling? This may be why they have disabled it in your Hermes!?
Yes they do.. since 2 months ago.. I have a Samsung A706 with video calling enabled ( been using it for 2 months )... I think one of the tech guys told me that the TyTN wasnt certified yet for the network... However I know people using unlocked TyTNs on Roger's and their video calling works fine!..
The rep pretty much said that they disabled it so they wouldnt get a million tech support calls asking why sometimes they can video call and sometimes they cant..
Flash a different ROM to it then see if it works?

I presume that you are referring to a Rogers-provided TyTN that you just got in the last week or two (Rogers just started selling the TyTN -- just in time for HTC to end-of-life it!) These are being shipped with WM5.0 AKU 3.3.1 (I believe). Likely they just disabled a registry entry on the units they are providing.
I can't test it for you because we don't have 3G in the Ottawa area (yet).
John
Video calling only works on Vision ready phones only
actually no i am using video calling on my softbank X01HT. HTC TyTn is suppose to work with the video calling feature. u might need to unlock your phone and get a new ROM for it to make it work if it doesnt
Are you sure its disabled? or they just won't let you add the feature on your phone? even when i got video calling put on my plan, the guy said they don't support it for vid calling, I told them to load it on anyways and if I lose $5 I lose, he put my phone down as a samsung a706. I would try to add the feature online and try...of if u just want to test it, and ur in the GTA, PM me the number and I will test it with you.
I know people that got it working on the TyTN but billing was all messed up and they got charged as if it were data or something.
Yeah I thought rogers may screw something up...but surprisingly they didn't do that bad...they charged me for text messages that they shouldn't have...but other than that everything is good.

I had no problems adding the vision plans.. I havent got them yet.. monday should be the day. So if i have the vision plan on them..it should work right? does Rogers actually disable the front facing video camera??
Kinda confused now lol.. was under the impression that the video camera was totally disabled..
Rogers disabled video calling from the firmware. Only way i can see around it is to reflash. I upgraded mine to WM6, and Vid Calling is working just fine.
Has anyone checked to see what Radio Rom Rogers released with the new TYTN
I was on another post and somebody was asking how he could upgrade to his buddys rom v1.42.00.00. His friend just got a new TYTN from Rogers.
That would be a radio rom and not an OS and the guy was made aware, but regardless I was just wondering if there is a new Radio Rom out there that Rogers has released with this new product.
if only you asked a few hours ago. I just got my TyTn tonight, but upgraded everything as soon as I got home. I can check tomorrow when i get to work (i work in a rogers store) if no one figures it out by then.
u mean you will check it out to see if it has video calling on wm5 when you get back to work??
What wm6 rom seems to be the best/most stable

your cooked wm6 rom that you loaded (according to your profile) might not have changed the radio.. MOST cooked roms do not include a radio and the phone will use the existing one.. just go to start > settings > "System" tab > Device Information and it will list the radio version..
Can someone who lives in the US with AT&T and has the video call working with their rom help me out? I wanna test the video call feature...
gtrab tried to help, but it didn't work over international lines...

either flash the UK R2A ROM or use gtrabs 2 cab files and SIIIIMPLE instructions to get it... it SHOULD work.. i just wanna make sure
I beleive AT&T only supports video sharing which is different than video calling plus you need to have video sharing on your account with at&t as it will be blocked if you dont but dont think thats gonna matter anyway when its not video calling. Hopfully at&t will jump on the video calling wagon soon! I visited my family in britan this past summer and even my cousins piece of dump flip phone had video calling! Come on USA...
before i flashed the UK rom, my NAM rom said "this feature is not supported" when i tried to video call...
Now with the UK rom, it doesn't, but i don't have anyone to try with... well, until like tomorrow or friday... it SHOULD work... all you need is a 3G connection which i do have, otherwise it'll say "you do not have a 3G connection" and will offer to make a voice call
I remember my old imate 9502 had video out of the box and when I was in a 3g area, the video call icon would light up because it detected 3g. I tried to video with a friend and it always failed to connect on a 3g network using at&t and that was because at&t did NOT open ports for this to work properly as far as I know. Please, someone prove me wrong because that would make my 2009!
I will find out either tonight or in the next few days... i'll keep u posted man... this would def be ground breaking for the US
Sounds good.

Please keep me updated, we should test BOTH the UK ROM solution and the CAB solution

Can anyone help me? Have just got the HD2 expecting to be able to subscribe to the sky sports package on t-mobile. The link on web n walk says HD2 handset not compatible. Rang t-mobile who said phone is ok, then rang HTC who said phone not compatible because it is windows.
Can anyone tell me if they have subscribed through t-mobile and how they did it?
Thanks in advance
I'm sure the phone itself is perfectly capable of streaming it, the problem is T-mobile's website not being up-to-date enough to regocnise the HD2.
Try changing the browers user agent, I'd start with the iPlayer fix from the Tips n Tricks sticky and see what happens.
