Im not sure if this is a known issue or an issue with just my phone. When ever my today screen refreshes, like if I change the settings or which plugins are showing, SBSH weather 1.2 takes almost 30 seconds to return to the screen. I have it saved on the memory card and after a soft reset I have 25 megs free ram, usually down to 19 after using some apps. Does this happen to anyone else? Also I am not using the extra icons that it includes.
I have SBSH but i dont have the same problems but i do have the same exact ram as you about 25, then down to 19 but i dont have that problem with it takin a while to refresh

The problem occurs if you install PW to storage card - install to main memory and it will be fixed
I actually do have it on the main memory. The first time I installed it I had it on the sotrage but then I reinstalled it to the main. Im not sure why I typed memory card.

It happened on mine with memory card installation - maybe you have some residual files/registry etc.. from previous install causing conflict.
Also try version 1.3.5 http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?s=f6c6322510ca731655c32740434a83fb&showtopic=11350

how to make storage big space? although installed in SD memory, storage memory always low.
This could be a result of the number of programs you have running in the background. Check your Running Programs and see if you have lots of unnecessary programs using up your memory.
Still happened

It doesn't matter where you are installing them; if you have them running in the background they still need memory
Just check your running programs. On a desktop PC when you minimize a program they go into your taskbar, but in Pocket PC they just hide themselves in the background. Its a common misconception that the "x" in the upper right hand corner of the screen closes the program; all it does it minimizes it. Or atleast most of them, some programs a actually very well designed and actually "close". At any case, use the "running programs" utility that came standard with your Magician to see how many programs you have running - it's actually quite amazing what you'll find.
I have a similar problem but mine starts at 20mb free after soft reset but after each sync (disconnect and reconnect) it drops by about 6mb until it reaches 7 or 8mb and stays there until I soft reset again?
I am not aware of any invoked programs that eat up memory when I sync and I have very little data in my sync files folder?
Suggestions welcome (except hard reset!!).
Thanks,
OB.
obarnes, That true. why after soft reset it used more memory. supposed to be free more memory.
Activesync eats up memory everytime you hook it up. That memory does not get freed up. Approx 3MB gets blocked away for every sync you do - so if you start of with 20 and you sync up 3 or 4 times then you're memory will slowly start to dissapear. This is a common occurence, the only thing I could suggest is to soft-reset 2-3 times a day. Additionally there are programs that can eliminate tiny chunks of memory being used up by duplicate processes that occur when you soft-reset your machine, they don't really effect your device; but every byte helps. The program is by Scarybear and it's called notifyclear (or something like that). I've recently did a maintenance on my device and managed to clear up almost 10MB just by moving unnecessary files and clearing up the registry and redundant junk from the machine. Hope this helps.
Obarnes,
The "memory leak" could be due to a program you have installed also. I used to face the problem because of Battery Pack Pro v.2 and havent faced a "memory leak" since I uninstalled it.
After a soft reset I have about 29-30MB of free ram, but after a few days I have 2 or 3MB of free ram left? Where all earth has it gone? I always close all active programs after use. Does anyone have this problem? I hate resetting after a few days of usage this is very annoying, my XDAIIi never had this problem.
Are you clearing your cache after using IE ? Deleting received and sent emails you don't want ?
RE
You have no choice with the Universal
You'll need to soft reset now and then in order to regain the free memory despite closing all active programs
Seems like a WM5 problem to me, on my Wizard I experience the same. After soft reset: 22 MB free, after a day or so falling to 19 MB, later to 18 MB etc etc. Nothing I tried (removing progs that might drain memory etc) helps.

Use MemMaid or PHM to set the IE cache to be on your SD card.
Thats HTC's most famous magic trick.
"Now you see it....Now you dont!"
The memory leak issue has been talked about before too. I am quite sure they are aware of it and will fix it in the upcoming RU in Jan.
Cheers.
Hmmm, I'm definitely experiencing the memory leak quite severely, cause after reboot, my Exec's memory is about 24mb ... but after a few hours of doing some syncs to install new apps, try new games, stuff like that, it went all the way down to less than 4mb. Check using the memory applet shows no running apps. This problem is happening a lot lately as I am trying out new apps, which is pretty irritating
Does anyone have any idea at all what's causing the memory leak ?
P.S.- I don't think this problem is unique to HTC, cause I found another thread elsewhere where Dell Axim users also have this problem. A WM5 issue perhaps ?
I've been trying out a variety of these Today Mods and Pocket Plus has worked the best for me, however I noticed one thing...its memory usage.
When I first turn on the phone I'll have about 22mb of memory. If I start other programs it'll go down to 15-16mb or so, so that sounds normal. But once I close the programs, the memory (as it displays on the Today screen) never fully returns to its state before I started the other programs. The memory would just go back to about 17mb.
In addition, I've seen my memory dipping down to as low as 3-4mb with just my WMP playing.
I haven't noticed these things with other programs of this type such as Wisbar Advance. I did a hard reset of my phone without any apps and my memory is being restored just fine...
So my question is, is this common with Pocket Plus? Is it reporting the correct memory available? I really love the prog but it sure does seem like a resource hog...
Hmm, haven't noticed this behavior & I'm using it for some time now. Disabling the today-plugin saves me around 1MB. Must say I'm not using the memory bar so can't judge about that.

While PP is not the "lightest" app out there, the behavior you described is more in line with the apps that your are launching, not PP. As for PP, uncheck any functionality that you don't want to use. With version 3.1, you can even uninstall certain parts of the app to save storage space as well.

My storage memory keeps dropping, seems like something is using it up because if I leave it overnight it chews up all my onboard storage memory and it gives me a warning in the morning but when I do a soft reset it all comes back. This happened yesterday so I hard resetted my phone and did a full backup dated March 15th 2009. Now its still using up my onboard storage memory automatically it went through 5 megs now in a matter of 15 mins. Can someone help pls? Do I need to do another hard reset and install each program one by one to see which one is causing this?
1') Are you using a custom ROM?
1'') In order to see which process is using up your storage memory i suggest downloading the SKTools trial and launching the processes util. It displays the CPU time, memory and heap usage...etc. This might give you a hint of whose eating up your storage space.
2) Were you using tools like Advanced Config Tool?

I'm using the stock R1A rom
Yes I have Advanced config Tool but wasn't using the program at the time could this program cause the issue?
The X1 already has a better task manager than the one in settings. If you go to the Windows folder in the file explorer and find the tskmngr.exe, you can view all programs running and processes. No need to download anything. I'd use that to take a look. Installing another program seems like it might just exacerbate the problem.
If you wasn't using the tool before these symptoms first appeared then its not the tool.
Could you go here http://www.s-k-tools.com/index.html?m_downloads.html#sktools and download the trial in order to see the processes that are active on your phone?
I also think there was a free tool called Advanced Task Manager, but I don't remember if it displays the memory usage.

Yes, but unlike the normal task manager he can use the other tools to see which services are started, what programs launch at start up and it has a registry optimizer and a memory cleaner.
And the X1 task manager WON'T show the hidden processes already running on the device.
I think installing one more program won't do more harm than already done.
ok I just installed SKTools v4.4.7.1 how do I find programs that are using up my rom?
1) Use the "CPU Usage" tool to see which processes are actively consuming cpu time. You should have around 18 processes there
2) For those processes that use, say, more than 0.5% use the "Processes" tool to see the amount of memory it consumes.
You could use the other tools to clean the registry, etc while you're at it.
SkTools also has a "Optimize tool" You could select Maximum Memory and see if it still bugs (you can always revert to the default settings if you don't like the performance).

Thx for the help, i've looked at the processes and looked them up on google and nothing out of the norm. I also used to optimize tool and it runs a bit quicker, so far i'm not losing any storage memory but i will find out tomorrow morning. I'll update when I get home from work tomorrow.
I just lost another 7megs from my storage memory and I didnt even download a thing. man this sucks.
This is beginning to bug me as well
Use the Clean! tool. When it finishes analyzing, go and check the files/folders it displays one by one. Do you notice some files or folders that have an abnormally large size? Most should be under 1mb (except maybe the GoogleMaps cache)
If that doesn't reveal a clue...I'm left clueless Maybe hardreset/update your ROM?
Here's an update,
Last night when I installed SKTOOLS I enabled freeUP RAM service and also Shadow cleaner in the shadow services. So again when I went to sleep I had my rom at 107MB's after I deleted a few pictures that came with the rom. This morning when I woke up I had the same pop-up, clicked on the icon at the top right hand corner and it said 0.2MB's then I guess the shawdow cleaner kicked in and my MB's started to change at a very fast pace it went back up to 107MB's within 3 seconds. I will see if it does the same thing when I wake up tomorrow. But that was really weird this morning I have never seen anything like that before.
Did u check as I said with the help of the "Clean!" tool to see if there are junk/temporary files or folders that have an abnormal large size?
My suggestion is disabling the Shadow Cleaner for now, then when you start running low on space again, use the Clean tool to see which temp files are big...that will immediately tell you which program is bugging...
Ok so from catgories I clicked on cleanup then clicked on temp and junk files is that what you want me to go in when all my rom is used up?
I just lost 2 megs
I went into SKtools and it says
Temp folder 2
\Application Data\Volatile
If you do a horizontal scroll in that tool (Clean!) you have a tab where you see the size of the Temp/Junk files and folders. What folder has a big size? Is it the Temp2 (because for me thats the RamDisk)
I have SPB insight installed on my today screen here's a screen shot,
So I think I found the problem, it might be SPB insight... here's a german forum translated into english using google language tools
http://translate.google.ca/translat...data-volatile.html&sl=de&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
He says in a short time he accumulates 30-40 megs...
Damn...
So did uninstalling spb Insight solve your problem?
Like your screen setup btw
I didnt uninstall insight... I just removed it from my today plug in then I went into the program to remove all data and set it only to manual update.
I lost another 2 megs so 4 in total in the last little while, its all IMGxxxx.tmp in my \Application Data\Volatile folder. I'll leave my insight turned off for now to see if I keep losing storage memory.

Ok, so I followed some instructions I found to see if a2sd was installed properly, and it was, but I've installed some apps and my free memory inside my phone is around 33 MB... (not ram) Anyone knwo why a2sd would be installed correctly according to the instructions I used, and why the phone says I have such little space left?Last time I checked, it was 99MB

There was a thread just like not more than 30 minutes ago.
Anyways, check your widgets load out as they could be pre-fetching or eating your ram. I had a similar issue and ram kept dropping until it was around 29MB. Weird thing is that I then wanted to try to setup an alternate setup on the stock launcher, and when I tried loading a widget there, it forced closed the launcher and when I checked my memeory at that point, it was back solid around the 110MB point. I switched back to Sense with my widget setups and had no problems since.
you might also try to not use things like pre-fetch on widgets such as News and Weather, and shut off auto updates for items you don't use.
You can also just ry removing all widgets and starting again to see if that does the trick.

Not ram... not ram... not ram.... phone memory... the internal phone storage.
And I was wrong, its not down to 33... it used to be near 100MB free, now dswn to 71.83MB free space. Not ram
But while I am thinking about ram, I start up with around 78MB free and consistently run at around 58MB
