Finally got one, SMS OK, Phone calls not working :( - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I finally got my hands on a universal, unlocked it, put in a sim card, I can send and receive SMS (so connection to network is ok) but I can't make or receive phone calls... making a call appears to work and ends immediately with a duration of 00:00.
I've switched between UMTS and GSM and I've tried a couple of vodafone sim cards.
I've flashed to the latest orange download roms (it's an M5000) and I've upgraded the radio to 1.0.9.
Is there anything I've missed or is this just a faulty unit?

Sim updates from Orange UK - 3G no longer works for calling

Hi All,
A little while ago on my Nike (Orange UK) my phone stopped working - can't call out or recieve calls I just get a text message telling me I have a missed call. My callers report going directly to voicemail.
I can still get data (internet and email) and sms and I still get a 3G logo with full strength at the top.
If I switch to explicitly GSM band (as opposed to Auto or UMTS(WCDMA)) through the phone options, everything works as normal again.
I wonder if this is due to putting my 3G sim in my old M600 for a while and an Orange operative sent me some sim updates to allow the 3G sim to work in my old phone. Perhaps this somehow disabled 3G callin/callout support when I went back to my Nike?
When I put this to Orange they don't have a clue what the hell I'm talking about and just suggest a handset replacement which I am less than keen to do.
What is the tecnical name for the "sim update" process called? Does anyone know spacificly what command Orange might have sent to my sim? Perhaps if I can talk to them in their own language they'll be able to help me further.
Thanks peeps!

Not receiving calls on Hermes, but still on other phones

Hallo,
I have a world-wide gsm version of the htc Hermes. The device is simlock-free and always has been. I put the official, albeit leaked, WM6 rom on it and it works great. But: last week I switched providers (for better data plans) and here is the result:
Data connection works just fine
SMS works just fine
But, I can hardly make calls and I don't receive any. The problem is not the network, because I switched phones (I put my SIM in a €26 SamSung phone which I use when I go camping) and I receive all of the calls. When someone calls me, they hear silence for about 30 seconds and then end up with my voicemail.
Any ideas as how to solve this? Both my old and new carrier are GSM. The only difference between them is that my old carrier (Belgium, Proximus) uses has a 3G/HSPDA network whereas my new carrier (Belgium, MObile Vikings; uses the network of BASE) has an EDGE network. Both operate on Dual Band.
EDIT: Would a radio upgrade do any good? If so, any suggestion for a radio version?
Thank you!
Come on, 80 views and no reply. Someone must have had an idea!
I did a radio upgrade (1.48-> 1.50) but that didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas?
I have TyTN and similar problem. Installed WM6, and worked fine for a 6 months. Few days ago problem (Strange?) started. I have GSM signal, I can make calls, I can receive calls from fixed lines and other GSM operators, but I can't receive calls from users of my domestic network?!? They get info Connection error? Please, HELP.
Also, when I ask request service for Call Barring I get info "Can't read specified service..."
Change the Sim
Long shot but have either of you thought to get a new sim from your current provider (port your number across if necessary) and see if that works?
WB
I've changed SIM card, it's still same problem! But, with a SIM card of other mobile operators I have no problem.

Sounds like a problem that's related to the network provider you are using. Have you chased down their technical dept for help? All else fails, move providers.
Once had a problem where I could not get mobile signals at home but could everywhere else. Turned out my service provider had issues with broadcasts to the cell near me.
They fixed it and gave me my charges back equal to the time the system had been out.
Good luck with it.

Strange Network Problem HD2

I bought unlocked, sim free HD2 inserted the sim of my usual Mobilink network the phone wizards automatically configured the setttings but to my strange I cannot dial or receive phone calls, I am receiving and sending sms perfectly the phone GPRS working alright tried different methods of changing band but nothing is working to dial or receive voice call. In order to check if there is problem itself with the phone I tried different network (Ufone) sim and the phone is working perfectly without any problem so I am stuck that I cannot use my network which I normally use and I dont want to switch network, if somebody can help to fix this problem.

[Q] blackstone no sms or incomming calls in 3g mode HELP

i wonder if anyone can help on this matter.
i have a blackstone with a flashed miri rom and the latest radio installed and was working 100% for about a year until it came out of standby 2 days ago and there was a red message saying "rom not compatible with this device"
i took the battery out and reinserted it and the phone rebooted ok!
here is the problem
i am on virgin mobile and if i switch to 3G i do not get incomming calls or sms at all, i can make calls and send sms to people but receive nothing back, if i turn the 3G of and use GPRS it works fine?
i tried another virgin sim with the same results so i tried a 3 network sim card and the phone worked 100% in 3G mode, i then tried a 3G orange sim and that worked 100% aswell.
so i thought it might me a rom issue so i formatted my memory card and reflashed the rom with duttys holy-grail and then flashed the original radio as well, but the fault is still there only on virgin?
i have phoned virgin who checked thier 3G coverage and reported no problems.
i have yet to try a t-mobile sim as i know virgin piggy-back of t-mobile.
any help would be great.....
many thanks in advance
any help would be good???

[Q] Calls Work with one SIM and not the other

Having a problem with a Telstra HD2 model.
With a Telstra SIM in the phone, I can make and receive calls. When I insert a Vodafone SIM into it, I cannot make or receive calls. Call hangs up straight away.
Device is not network locked as HTC phones are not locked with Telstra. Bars display in task bar.
Tried it with Windows 6.5 (factory default) and Android custom ROM. Currently on custom ROM.
Any thoughts?
I had a similiar problem a few years ago and all i had to do was get a new sim card. I was told i had damaged my sim card some how but i was able to save the contacts, transfer them over to the new sim T-mobile gave me and I have not had another problem since.
If you have access to another phone try and insert both sim cards you have in the other phone. If you have problems in the other phone with the sim card thats not working you can safely say its the sim card thats not working correctly and not a phone issue.
Thanks for the reply Craze.
My SIM's do work as I use my Telstra SIM (that works in the HD2) in my old Nokia and my Vodafone on my Galaxy Nexus Prime.
So on the HD2, my Telstra SIM works where I'm able to receive and make calls and my Vodafone is the opposite.
Could it be the phone? I'm hoping that it is so that I can fix it.
Could it be the network providers? If so, then I'll call them which I've already done but they couldn't give me an answer as to why my Voda SIM does that in the HD2.
