does a decent registry monitor for ppc exist? i saw one for 40 bux and apparently theres some bootleg way to monitor changes via activesync, but seems a pain in the arse.
will i need to port the rom to pc to monitor registry changes?

I think I may have settled on the final set of programs I need for the XDA2....
On today screen:
SPB GPRS monitor (nice even if You have unlimited GPRS)
Bluetooth Tools 1.1.0.0
Phone Dashboard (IP dashboard was better but caused the system to hang too much)
Pocket Plus
OmegaOne Journalbar with expansion pack
Other programs:
OmegaOne Calc-1 (great calculator)
ThemeKing
Pocket Controller
Resco Explorer & Registry editor
VO Shopping list
Pocket Informant 5.02 ( still not 100% sure) may try ACT or Fusion
So whats everyone's opinion? Am I missing something? or are there even better programs to be had?
Well great pack but i guess it just depend on oyur main exploitation of a PDA phone
some will prefer communication software for emailing browsing or connecting to their office
some other will use it to enhance navigation with GPS or trafic assistance software
some other my be more oriented in office suite....
or why not games, who knows.
But i m sure your right on one point there are a set of software that are significant for a pda phone
i think of gprs monitor, soft like pocket plus and BT tools of course.
my personnal softwares are
pocket plus
gprs monitor
BT tools
pocketirc
pocket informant with the PIToday plugin
ezwap 2.5 (cause i work in mobile site developements)
Tomtom navigator
and that is nearly all what i need
anyway you make me discover a new calculator i didn t know about thanks
That ll be great to have an exhaustiv list of all softaware and brands cause that 's not that easy to buy the right one, so small but so expensive
and sometimes i discover freeware that are much more powerfull thant sofwares i paid for.
Well that was my long point of view
cheers

I'm a .NET server-side developer who's 100% new to PDA programming. I know the various SDKs exist but I haven't downloaded them or their associated emulators. I've skimmed the MS docs, but I haven't played with them to see what they can really do.
I'm looking for the sort-of opposite of an emulator.
We have PDA-connected software that we're demo-ing at a tradeshow. But the real demo is of the server-side stuff we've built; the PDA is essentially a dumb terminal using only its built-in browser & Outlook.
We need to run the demo on the real PDA but have the results visible to a large audience. So the goal is to somehow make the PDA's screen appear on our VGA projector that'll spray the image on the large screen behind the presenter.
Right now our first-cut plan is to have the PDA connected to a PC via the sync cradle. Then all we need is some software on either the PC or the PDA that'll drag the real-time screen image to the PC.
Does anyone know of such a program?
In the alternative, do the MS SDK emulators include the full functionality of a typical PDA, such as browser & Outlook so I can simply use the emulator and the PC's network connection to simulate the browser/Outlook & over-the-air connectivity, with no real PDA in the demo? The demo doesn't need any telephony capability, just TCP/IP connectivity.
If the emulators do have that capability, which one(s) do I need? There are a bunch of SDKs and emulators available & I don't really have time to grab them all and uninstall - reinstall hunting for the right one. We're looking for something that's American-market compatible and we don't much care which specific hardware device(s) it's emulating.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll return the favor somehow.
hi,
if you need to show the PDA acreen on your PC monitor then you can use aprogram called PPC controller.
it even anables you to control the PDA from the PC.
http://www.soti.net/
hope thats what you are looking for.
Thanks, that was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
It'll also be a big hit around here for a bunch of other uses. All that and inexpensive as well.
Thanks again, and the next time you have some server-side .NET headscratcher, send me a note. I owe you one.
Another option is the free powertoy for PocketPC MS Remote Desktop Control and Activesync.
If the device has Bluetooth like the XDA2 then you can ActiveSync using Bluetooth and the presenter can wander within about 10 meters of the PC with the bluetooth connection and teh projector.
Hi
I think i will be a great idea to open a Thread for everyone to recommend about the best software and hardware for the wizard.
I recommend these programs:
1 - battery pack - you can see info about battery and memory, you can
switch between open windows, you can close running programs easily
2 - Vidya registry editor - you can edit the registry nicely
3 - Notem - let you record any audio include phonecalls
4 - Tv remote controller - let you control any device by infrared port.
now lets hear yours
Here are mine :
- xBar 3 - taskbar tool that allow switch from an application to another easily and lot more.
- PocketZenPhone : phone profile switcher/manager
- Sunnysoft Backup Manager : the only backup solution I know for WM 5.0
- Microsoft Voice Command
- SPB GPRS Monitor : complete solution for measuring the amounts of data transfers via your GPRS
- SPB Pocket Plus : Today plug-in with tabs. Close button that really closes. ZIP support in File Explorer. And many other features missing in WM 5.0
My list
1. Total Commander (free, excellent, and also provides an integrated registry editor)
2. Magic Button (free, fully functional task switching app, with an effective battery monitor)
3. Pocket Informant 2005 (by far the best PIM, and worth the $25 or whatever it is)
4. PQz keyboard mapper (free, gives you CTRL and ALT keys -- see http://www.nicque.com/PQz/)
5. SPB GPRS Monitor (best metering tool for GRPS)
As for voice command, and some other apps... I don't know if WM2005 doesn't increasingly provide those features. MS is doing the same as it did with the desktop in playing a wait & see strategy -- let the entrepreneurial developer community build the useful apps and then just integrate those features into the O/S.
Greg.
SPB GPRS Monitor is that one workin good on the Qtek 9100 or K-Jam?..
Bought it a few days ago, have noticed that it has a tendens to crash all the time. When i go from wlan to gprs etc etc it crashes. Any1 else havin probs?
Problems with GPRS generally
I'm having general problems with GPRS on the device in general, so I've disabled everything non-core to isolate them.
My unit's often crashing just when I turn it on and it starts checking for new e-mail.
Perhaps you're having a similar problem (e.g., rather than it being specific to GRPSMonitor?)

does the tv remote controller work with the wizard? i thought the infrared port on the wizard was commercial grade.
Is there a free bit of software that will allow me to use the ppc as an extended desktop.
I have played with side window, but would rather not pay for it as i don't think I will use it enough lol
RDC is another option
Would that extend the desktop (use the ppc as a monitor)?

os x
I was just looking for a program like SideWindow for OS X - I can't find anything. Does anyone know of something that will let me use my WM6 device as an external monitor under OS X?
-GB
So i´ve tried sidewindow.. @ my ppc (htc p-3401 wm5) and the ppc screen stay a little bit white, it lose the phone signal(what?! conflict ?) and nothing works..
tehre´s any equivalent software? or anyone knows how to fix the problem with sidewindow?
I'm trying to figure how bandwidth is used by the different software stored on my Touch Pro - while programs like SBP GPRS Monitor can show usage, it doesn't show what programs use how much bandwidth. It's thus impossible to figure out if something in the background is using the link when it's not supposed to.
i also have this request? anybody can give a guidance
spb gprs monitor (now called spb wireless monitor) has been updated and will do what you want. i use it and love it - very useful
