Hide/Show Hidden ROM (at least works on my TyTN - German ROM)
SHOWN:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\EXT_FLASHDRV] "Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV] "MountHidden"=dword:00000000
HIDDEN:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\EXT_FLASHDRV] "Bootphase"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV] "MountHidden"=dword:00000001
For me this was the default:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\EXT_FLASHDRV] "Bootphase"=dword:00000002
So, I only had to change this from 1 to 0:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV] "MountHidden"=dword:00000000
Now I can see the extended rom, my device is an HTC TyTN WWE, I will post the ExtROM to FTP in a while.

GREAT !
Now we still need 2 very important Registry Hacks (or missing links to get them work):
1. A hack for presenting a differentiation between GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA
2. A hack for invoking the EngineeringTest Mode
I've been unable so far to get that working on the Hermes platform. Keep trying.

Heh, youre busy one.
I added a registry tweak to change the titlebar clock to an annalog one, if someone is interested.
Hopefully we can keep the wiki growing and useful.
My default setup was also:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\EXT_FLASHDRV] "Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV] "MountHidden"=dword:00000001
So I just changed to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV] "MountHidden"=dword:00000000
and did a soft reset. The extended rom then appeared but it was still write protected. How do I get rid of the write protection?
LJ
Use the cab file in the wiki, it unlocks and unhides ExtROM.
After using the cab fille and/or making the tweaks myself, and the are the same as described as above, the result is that I can see the ext. rom, but it is still write protected. I can't delete any file or write a file to the ext. rom. I've got a Tytn WWE. What is the problem, or better: what is the solution???
Should be wrtitable using this cab:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HERMES_MountExtROM.CAB
If it's not, then try to hard reset and then use the cab without messing with registry keys before.
Problem with Extended ROM
I have tried all the methods in the wiki and also all the reg. edit trick but I still can't see my extended ROM. When I run the cab to Mount Extended ROM it crashes my TyTN. Locks it up befor making it to the windows screen. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this or tell me where to look? I was going to mess around with bootloader but I am not that computer savy.
hard reset and install the unhider&unlcoker cab file. it should work after hard reset.
Have tried to Hard Reset my Taiwanese CHT9000 and only apply the HERMES_MountExtROM.CAB tweak, now can see the Extend ROM, but still cannot "unprotect" the ROM. Cannot make it writable. Any other methods? Like modifying the registry? Thanks a lot in advance!!

On my Vario 2, when I'm using 3G (and therefore, HSDPA) the [3G] icon is shown in the top bar (and when it connects a small connecting icon with the moving arrows and 3G in it is diplayed, next to the square 3G indicator) - when it drops back to GPRS, it just changes to [G].
Does yours not do this?

Unsure whether it works myself, as I've not tried it yet, but I'd put (a small amount of) money on it that it works
Hi Chris, Thanks for your reply!!
Unfortunately, my device is still un-protectable after following the whole process. And the registry settings I have checked are exactly the same as the described. The Extended_ROM directory is still write-protected. Couldn't add or delete files in it.
Maybe I am the unlucky one that couldn't change the extended ROM at all...
Since the digital signature security autentification for CABs in ExtROM is on by default, putting in any CAB file that is either not digitally signed, or loses its authenticity because it was modified will not be installed during the Customization phase after a hard reset.
Any ideas how to solve this problen on TyTN?
There was the soluton for the Universal devices wiht the Default_Signed_DisabledSecurity.CAB. This CAB has the right signature for Universal, but it dosn’t work on TyTN.
From this MSDN discussion about Windows Mobile 5 code signing,
"Looks like you won't have to sign the cab if wceload.exe isn't used to install it. Although if it is used to install the cab file you will need to sign it."

A possible gap? If someone could come up with a third party CAB installer that could be used during customisation, maybe it could bypass the official CAB installation procedure (and therefore the signed certificate verification) entirely? Just a thought.
For Universal this problem i think was decided here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33638&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=150) with the help of Default_Signed_DisableSecurity.CAB. But this CAB not work on my TyTN. I think it because of wrong digital sign.

well general, depends on the OS you are using..
if you have rom version 1.6.x.x it won't work easy yet.
the pre 1.6.x.x roms are quite simple, download totalcommander for ppc, install it, run it, in the adress-bar type "\extended_rom\" without the " " 's, and voila, there they are..
good luck..
ps.
the search button on top of this page would give the oppertunity to search for words as extended rom in de wizard forums..
Ok
Thanx works fine with TC
Just a last question, all cabs i place in extended_rom will install automatically after hard reset ?
'cause I saw i had a autorun.exe file in there and some sutomization cabs that install after Hardreset ???

There's a config file in there too (can't remember it's name off hand, but it's fairly obvious). This has a list of the cab files to install after a hard reset. I guess you'd need to add your cab files to that list as well as copying them to extended ROM.

depends, some have a config.txt file, if you open this one and edit it to your
needs, the files you put into it will be installed after hard reset, if you
set the right parameters from the txt file.
other roms have the autorun.exe wich installs all the files in the extrom.
i'm not sure anymore if this is right, but i believe that if you rename your
cab's like this:
applicationX.cab -> Default_applicationX.cab
it will install without any problems.
if you have problems with unsigned cabs, you can use the signed.patch
wich can be found on the ftp.
On my Cingular 8125 the extended ROM is write protected, does anyone know how do I remove the write-protection?

you can access the files on the extended rom, but you can't edit any of the information there. you have to flash a new extended rom image for any changes to take effect. I think those that are looking at the extended rom unlockers is for a different purpose. I think I read somewhere that it let some people use the extended rom space as extra storage (~10 megs), but it messed up applications on the phone, especially the camera.
in general, it doesn't seem to be a good idea to unlock the extended rom. most rom builders look like they are trying to learn how to edit this properly to add it o their rom kitchens.
can one's extended rom go curropt?
after i heard about this, i went into extended rom just to see if it works.
and it did. i exited total commander and started to gather my anti theif program to get installed.
now I go back into extended rom, and everything became gibberish!
and when i click on something it says "error 3 Changing to dir!"
WTF is going on!
can someone help me out?

On the WM Team Blog they address the reaction to the nearly worthless battery icon replacing the clock. Good news is that ROMs using AKU2.2 and later will allow you to add the clock back in, bad news is that the current JasJar ROM (1.30.76) doesn't seem to have the 2.2 release of AKU.
Can people with other carrier's ROMs check to see if the registry edit they provide works with your ROM?
The egistry edit is to add a DWORD titled ShowTitleBarClock with the value of 1 in the HKEYLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Shell location.
Didn't work for me
Doesn't work in the latest dopod rom 1.30.111 either...
The message on the MS site is from yesterday, and the guy is speaking of a "further release", i think AKU 2.2 don't exist yet
btw: isn't working on my wizard too
AKU 2.2.1 exists...
this is the nessesery file, you need to replace the existing one with this one (windows directory)
and add
[HKEYLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Shell]
"ShowTitleBarClock"=dword:1
this is only for AKU 2.0!

Perhaps related to the certification. Plz someone with removed certification try this... and post the results.

The shell32.exe file in my QTEK 9000 is located in ROM something which you cannot copy out.
Does a soft reset reverts back to original battery icon if I'll to replace with the attached shell32.exe file?
After the battery icon is replaced by the clock icon, can I add a date to it also using any known method to put a date on top of the clock?
I believe a hard reset will definitely reverts back to the original battery icon, right?
Thanks
only a hard reset reverts back to the original.
add a date: I think so... not tested, but it should work.
I have a special rom where it is possible to overwrite system files, but It could be difficult to replase shell32.exe on a normal rom and I cant make a cab, because I dont know how to sign that.
plz someone with the knowledge about that make a cab.
don't bother, because even if you replace the shell32.dll, it wont restart, displaying the keyboard and getting stuck there.
You will have to hard reset and restore from a backup to get back your device.
A word of warning - back up before trying this. It hosed my universal. It would not even finish booting, and I had to hard reset.

Ok, I realy sorry.
It works for me...
Himalaya (rom based on 2.00a)
On my ROM (Qtek latest) in \Shell\Taskbar there's a regkey LimitedClock set to 1. If I set that to 0, the clock will at least display everywhere except Today, both in landscape and portrait modes. With it set to 0 as per standard, the clock only shows up while in apps *and* landscape, apps/portrait it doesn't. As long as the Today screen time&date plugin is switched on, this means you've always got the clock. BTW, needs a softreset to activate, Taskbar settings apparently are only read on first startup.

I'm sure you realise this is a universal forum? You should edit your post to remove your file before somebody else zaps it's unit.
I dont think so, because the os is the same.
My rom is not realy Himalaya, it is a ported wizard os and only the drivers of Himalaya.
So the file should work on all WM5 devices, perhaps the problem is related to the removed certification on Him 2.0 rom's.
(This file is from an Atom rom not Himalaya)
But you are right, I edited the post.

Hello,
It is my first post on this forum.
Yesterday, I unlocked my frensh SPVM3000 (Wizard) and tried to replace my "shell32.exe" by the "shell32.exe" downloadable on this post.
It was a BAD idea! My SPV starting crashed because it was for Universal smartphone. I used the button sequence to re-install the original software.
Have you an address where I can download the "shell32.exe" of the Wizard AKU 2.2 software?
Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know how to automatically run a config script or application after a hard reset?.
if your talking about the autorun.exe the one that loads the cabs from the ext rom then it should automatically run after a hard reset, if it does not then you may need to re-flash your rom as your ext rom has been trashed
Hi,
Thanks for that - what I am trying to do is...
I install an app (including .net v2.2) When the device is hard reset I want to be able to get PPC to automatically reinstall .net 2.2 and my own app.
Presumably I need to put some cabs somewhere that will be automatically run by autorun.exe?
But where (and how) do I place the cabs and what should they be called.
Many Many Thanks

yes, the cab must be in the ext rom and you must edit the config.txt in the ext rom.. its easy and you will understand as soon as you open the config.txt
There is a section on wiki in the BA section (extended rom kitchen) that will give you more info.
Link Below
Thanks for that - It is a real help - If I can do anything for you in the future just let me know.
One more (hopefully) final question on this point....
How do you unlock the extended rom on Win Mobile 05 (Ipaq 6515). I have found some stuff on it but nothing seems to work
I have a apache Verizon and a T-mobile h6315. I'm guessing that your's is simular to my h6315. On the h6315 the extended rom is called "iPAQ ROM". search for it in your registery. You'll find that there is a entry that shows it's mode of the file system. value is one change it to 0, or delete it from the registry and reboot.
In the extended rom there is a directory called Config there is a cab provisioning file and cab file that I think are probably installed on a had boot.
Sorry, I can't look up the specific regristry entry now, will try later if this isn't good enough.
Hola to all:
I need help. I have installed in my Qtek S200 the program SKINVODAFONE .
It has changed the format of screen of the telephone (menu to mark when we realize a call) and it has put it that of Vodafone.
I would like to change again the format of this screen to which it had in a principle, the standard format .
Thank you very much for your help and HAPPY YEAR!!!.
Try going to Start->Settings->System->Remove programs and uninstalling the program.
If that doesn't work you may need a hard reset, but then you will loose all you data.
Thanks levenum , but it already had tried it.
To do a hard-reset is the only thing that happens to me also, but what he would need to avoid the hard-reset is the program that installs the original screen or standard of the Qtek frees.
Certainly , I am not the only one interested in changing this screen to Qtek's original screen, in the Spanish forum also he has been interested.
One more thought:
There should be a Qtek extended ROM on the FTP. One of the cabs there should have the dialer installation.

On the FTP... excuse but that it is the FTP?
That you want to say, that should install the standard EXT-ROM? But then would it lose all the information and installed tricks, not?
FTP - File transfer protocol. Mainly describes the server on which XDA holds different version of ROM for HTC/QTEK devices.
And yes, you should install the standard EXT ROM. You need to do a full back up and then restore your data not to loose existing data. Your device will be wiped!!
I would strongly suggest to think twice before installing a new ROM if you are a novice.
Just my .02cts

No need for drastic measures yet.

You do not need to reinstall all of the ext ROM or format your device. All you need is to look for the cab file that installs the Qtek dialer (I assume Qtek ROMs do not use standard Win Mobile dialer, the ugly blue thing).
Copy this cab to your device and run it like a regular program installation.

You need to type it like this ftp://xda:[email protected] or select 'Log in as...' from the file menu.
You should really do a Google search and read up on how to use ftp.

Again thank you for your help. I have been looking for some cab and have not located it.
Is possible to group several cabs in one cab?
I want it to save in the Extended Rom of my TyTn, so that when I do a HardReset, automatic it starts to install all the modifications of registry and some programs that I have in several cabs from the pocket, without need of pc.
I search on the forum, but I don´t find any solution.
Thanks
Well first off, if you use the autorun.exe that already exists in the extended ROM and modify its configuration file (the name may be different for different devices, but it is usually a plain text file) you can get it to install several cabs in sequence.
Combining cabs is not always possible unless you are the one who created them in the first place.
Get a program called CE Cab Manager. It will show you everything that a given cab includes and let you edit it. As long as it's just files and registry settings there is no problem stuffing them all in one cab.
But if a two cabs contain a setup.dll there is no way of combining them without knowing exactly what that DLL does (it could be anything) and thats almost impossible (unless you can read ARM assembler well).

what levenum said is correct... so the best thing for you to do is to edit the config.txt file in your extended rom to have them install... HOWEVER if the cabs you are using arent digitally signed then they wont install using that method, you would need to disable the security first... Since no one has a signed disable security cab that works with the tytn the only option would be to do this on a hard reset; soft reset before the customization, when it boots run the tweak program to disable security, then go to the windows directory and manually launch the preautoconfig.exe
software alternatives
tristan1412, you can also use a software dedicated to this task.
check spb airsetup (www.spbsoftwarehouse.com, i'm not sure if it allows more then one cab), or even better airwizard (http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=airwizard)
the advantage of these programs is in my opinion the compression. then you also get several options like readme/eula (with airwizard you have spash image support and even sd card output support - that creates autorun content for the sdcard)
hope this helps
