I am attempting to locate the activesync executable, on the device. I've looked in \Windows\ where most of the other .exe's are. I did not see it there, or any other obvious place.
I checked the shortcut that is placed in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs (or \Windows\Start Menu) and it simply says the target is :MSSYNCAPP|| instead of the typical \windows\application_name.exe or similar. I even tried using this target in the shortcut I am attempting to create. No dice.
Anyone have any ideas?
I think it's embedded in commsmanager now; the only files i found were: sync.lnk, async.lnk and async.asy. All 3 are hidden in ROM.

hi,
I am having problem deleting an icon from the promgrams section of o2 XDA2.
I downloaded one program and later deleted the program through romeove program. The actual program has been deleted but has left behind an icon on the programs list. I cannot figure out a way how to delete it. Can anyone help
Manoj
Deleting items in program list
Look in "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" - they are all there.
use explore or what ever file browsing tool that you use to get your kicks
go into the dir called windows
go into the dir called start menu
go into the dir called programs or something like that
it's just like on a pc
Use File Explorer. Go to \Windows then \Start Menu. Open \Programs and do whatever you want.
everytime my device is woken back up i get this error. what the heck is the problem. ive searched but cannot find an answer. thanks,
cannot execute "\StorageCard\Smartskey.exe"
cannot execute "\StorageCard\smart\Smartskey.exe"
Maybe?
start-settings-softwarekeys
Re activate or select the existing again.
It worked for me
Put Smartskey on the device in its own folder in \Program Files, not on the storage card. Be sure you change the shortcut in \windows\startup to reflect this change.

I guess you have to do it twice for it to work...
Okay, I searched for "change icons" and got two pages of threads on how to change program icons. Some provided great information; however, none addressed my need.
I'm interested in changing only FOLDER icons, and ONLY those in QuickMenu (see attached images). The folder icons are all the same except for two, the Games folder and the Office Mobile folder. They both have a small file inside the directory that's called "icon."
I would like to change any and all directories to whatever icon I choose, or design. Is this possible? If so, how?
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a look at that program, and the web site, and I'm completely confused. It looks like a program for my PC, and not my phone. Furthermore, I don't see anything mentioned on how to change an icon.
HELP!
ADDENDUM: Furthermore, as I said in my original post, I DO NOT want to change program icons, such as exe files or dll files. From what I can tell, PExplorer is desiged to modify the inner workings of exe and dll files, etc.
I want to change the icons for a directory (folder image). These are not programs or dlls.
Thanks,
Peter
Figured it out ...
I figured it out. It took a bit of thought, and some weird manipulation using Notepad, but now I can change any QuickMenu icon to almost whatever I want, as long as there's either an EXE or DLL file that contains the icon.
Cheers!
----------------------------------
Since I don't plan to return to this thread, and since there may be someone who wants to know what I did, here's my solution:
REMEMBER: This solution ONLY works if you want to change folder icons WITHIN the QuickMenu subset of folders. It does NOT work on program icons, or for any other icons for that matter (ONLY QUICKMENU FOLDERS).
01) Find an EXE or DLL file with the icon you want. If this file contains more than one icon, then you'll need to know the icon number within the program. This can be quite difficult to determine. However, for the purpose of this discussion, I'm assuming you want to use the MAIN icon, which is usually designated as icon "0" (zero) within the EXE or DLL file. We'll go with "0" for this discussion.
02) Your phone should already have at least one (probably two) folder icon files. The two in question are usually used for the Start Menu Games directory and for the Start Menu Office Mobile directory. Using Total Commander or any similar program (File Explorer will NOT work), make your way to either the Games or Office Mobile directory within the Windows\Start Menu. Whether it's the Games folder or the Office Mobile folder, you should find a shortcut file called icon. This is the file that determines how the folder will appear within the QuickMenu structure.
03) Copy this file to your PC. Anywhere will do as long as you remember where you put it. Make a second copy of it just in case you "ruin" your attempt to change the icon using these instructions. At least you can go back to what you had before.
04) Right click on this file and select Properties. In the General tab, uncheck the Read-only box. Click on Apply.
05) Open NotePad on your PC.
06) Within NotePad, click on File and then on Open. The Open dialogue box appears. At the bottom of this dialogue box are three horizontal white boxes. The second box has the title "Files of type." The default entry is "Text documents (*.txt). Click on the down arrow and change this to "All files." Now find the icon file you copied to your PC in (3) above and open it within NotePad.
07) You will see a line of instructions at the top of the file. These instructions tell your phone where to find the icon image. What we need to do, therefore, is change the instructions to another icon image.
08) Now let's assume that you have a Start Menu folder within QuickMenu called PDF files, and you would like that folder to have the Adobe Reader icon. To do this, change the line of instructions from what it currently reads to the following:
1#AdobeReaderLE.exe,-0
09) Make sure there's a carriage return after the final "0"
10) Re-save the file. The file name must not be changed. It must always remain as "icon."
11) Now copy this new file to the actual PDF directory within your phone's Start Menu. Soft reset your phone and the PDF folder will now have the Adobe icon.
DONE!
Here are some tips:
The above example assumes that the AdobeReaderLE.exe file is in your main Windows directory. If the EXE file you want to use is anywhere else, you need to direct the instructions appropriately. Here's an example for an EXE file contained on your Storage Card, and within the Program Files directory. Let's say you installed BsB Tweaks to the Storage Card, and you want to use the main BsB icon for one of your Start Menu folders. Here's how the instructions would look:
1#\Storage Card\Program Files\BsB\Tweaks\BsB Tweaks.exe,-0
Remember to always save the file with the name "icon." Always put the revised icon file inside the directory whose appearance you want to change.
Happy Changing!
Peter
P.S. Since I can't seem to add images to a post after the fact, I will submit another post shortly with images to show you what I did with my phone.
Before and After Images
As promised, attached (below) are images to show you what I did with my phone.

thanks alot man, i have been looking for days, to find a way to do this!!!!
Hello there.
Ive been giving my hd2 a nice overhaul today and added a couple of apps which were not in a .cab format.
E.g just cpied all the program files over to the sd card. They both work fine but im having a problem linking shortcuts to the home screen quick links. Is there a program that lets you explore the entire folders to link them to quick links or a way around this. Ive had a browse and not really found anything helpfull. I have total commander and am able to edit the registry if that helps.
Thanks for replies in advance

I can make the shortcuts fine, its just pairing it up the the quick links, in HTC Sense.
For example, when you touch an empty quick link square there are three options, Program, Contact, and bookmark.
Maybe a program that adds a browse through folders option.
press and hold the executable, choose copy, browse to the windows/start menu/programs folder , press and hold, choose paste as shortcut and now it will show up when you do the quick link.

I'm trying to get shortcuts made to folders on my storage card and am having the hardest time. I want one that goes straight to "Movies" folder and I've tried using sktools shortcut manager and nothing shows up in the start menu though. If I just copy and paste a shortcut into start menu programs, then it doesnt launch and just says the file cannot be opened.......Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
press and hold on the music folder, choose copy, browse to windows/start menu press and hold, choose paste as shortcut. It will now show up for you to assign when you press a blank quick link

been searching for an answer to this and haven't gotten one yet.
i do exactly as instructed above (no problems if i am making shortcuts to individual exe, pdfs, etc.) problem is when making a shortcut to a folder (whether the folder is on the device or storage card makes no difference).
when i place a shortcut of a folder into the start menu it works if i 1) get to it via total commander 2)get to it by file explorer however it fails if 1) i get to it by pressing the start menu or 2) assign it as a quick link (get a message stating: "The file "XXXX" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.")
any ideas?
thanks!

bump...anyone have ideas??
thanks!
I've the same problem! I can create shortcut to programs, a single file etc but can't create any shortcut to a folder.
When I clicked on the lnk for the folder in fexplorer or total commander, fexplorer will open with the folder listed. But if I clicked on the lnk from the launcher, the message : "The file "XXXX" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." appeared. I tried to create another lnk shortcut to a file and put it in the launcher and it works perfectly. Just that it dosen't work when the lnk is for a folder. Strange..........

Hi samsamuel,
Thanks for your reply. I followed exactly what you had written on post #35. But it did not work either. One strange thing I've noticed is that the .lnk file I've created and pasted on \Windows\Start Menu\ will auto disappear by itself! To be exact, I highlighted the .lnk file I've created and paste it in \Windows\Start Menu\ folder. Under file explorer, I browse to \Windows\Start Menu\ folder and I can see the .lnk file there. I proceed to close file explorer and reopen it and browse to the same folder but the .lnk file had disappear all by itself!!!
Ok. so I copied a shortcut of a folder from my SD to the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs. The folder contains all my movies, and my plan was to put the folder shortcut from the programs on the quick links on the home page. But i ran into a problem, when i try to open the the shortcut by pressing the windows start button, scrolling to it and click it, it gives me this error message' "the file 'folder shortcut' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its componets cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling tor restoring the file."
Its weird cause when i go to file explorer and follow the path \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and click on the folder shortcut it opens and takes me right to the files. Anyone else encountered this? I spent like 4 hours today with my phone trying different things, and about 3 just now surving the web and here and cant find anything.
I have the TMOUS version of the HD2 and the transformers movies are located on the SD card and i can access them through the Start programs on the home screen. Any help would be appriciated, Im really stuck. Thanks in advanced
links to folders don't work the same.

Thanks for the info samsamuel, exactly what i needed. After reading the link i did some more research, and got it working perfectly. For anyone else intrested here are the steps to get a folder shortcut from your SD card to open in the programs area:
To make a shortcut on the start menu of a folder on the Storage card do these following steps:
1. Open up notepad on your computer
2. type in the command line (no quotes) “35#\Windows\fexplore.exe \Storage Card\’Folder Name’ ”
3. Replace “Folder Name” with the name of the folder in the Storage card you want the short cut to go to.
4. Click “save as” and name the file “whatever you want.lnk” (L lower case not I)
5. Copy The file to your phone, then to “windows\start menu\programs”
6. And your done!
Thanks again for your help
