It's called a hard reset. Go to Settings, System, Clear Storage. This will return the unit to factory settings.

or hold comm and voice button as you do a soft reset, then press power button when holding the two buttons

Cannot Hard Reset

Hi,
I am puzzled by the fact that I cannot hard reset my device at all via the hardware buttons. I can hard reset via clear storage, but cannot hard reset by holding explorer and gps button + soft reset button. This just doesn't work for me. The device does nothing. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

Strange, with my device it´s the other way around. Can HR via buttons but not via clear storage. If someone has an solution for one or even better the both of us....don´t hesitate.
Hold the stylus pressed in that hole.
Press the two magic buttons.
Remove the stylus but keep the buttons pressed until you see the "welcome screen".
OK now?
Figured it out
Bloody HTC...trinity can HR with device off. Was use to that. With Polaris, it is required to have device on!
So Thanks Dimitri,
You order is correct. Just that the device must be turned on and booted into WM6 OS.
With regards to Clear Storage. Not sure how I can help. Could it be your ROM? I've only Clear Storaged with two ROMS. Bepe and the original manufacturer's ROM (Taiwainese Version). Had to reflash to Bepe to get English. Maybe try a different ROM?

Destroyed my Reset Button

I had some problems with my Touch Dual which forced me to reset it by means of the reset button. Now finally it seems that I've destroyed the button
Since I need Hard Reset (system is locked and I cannot enter the requested "a1b2c3" sequence) just removing the battery is not sufficient.
I there an alternative way to force a Hard Reset?
I think...
Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage
...is the same as a hard reset, other alternative is to reinstall a rom...
Reflash a ROM if you have one.
I also wouldn't be surprised to find there is an mtty command that does it too - check the wiki.
Is there an SSPL for the Niki that would allow people to run mtty commands? not sure but worth checking into...
Found out that with SKTool one can perform a hard rest, too. Works perfect and finally solves my reset button problem
BTW: HTC rejected to fix the button problem, very very very poor service ...
do they have a reset button, cos mine doesn't. i usually have to take the battery out.
which reset button, if you mean the little one in the back you can hard reset by holding red and green buttons when you switch on

Maybe Bricked Wizard

Yesterday was installing the drivers for the Redfly viewer on my XDA Mini. When the drivers had finished installing, the device soft reset and wouldn't get past the O2 splash screen. I've been browsing the web for possible solutions but haven't found a definiative answer. Can anybody give me some advice to possible fix my XDA?
Alex
This will erase all data and restore your phone to factory default settings.
Hard reset sequence: Press VoiceDial button + Comm Manager button + soft reset.
nah, it hasn't done anything still stuck on O2 splash screen. Thanks anyway

Fixed it, then you need to keep holding down the two buttons while pushing the d-pad, then when prompted pushing the talk button

[Help] Hard Reset?!?

what is hard reset?!?
ummm reformatting your phone? Soft reset if i remember correctly is just restarting....
deleting all your add ons and date, and brings back ur devise to factory settings, as u bought it new
erms but i dont know the key combo for the mega yet..... only for my Trusty old Blue Angel...
Hard Reset Touch2
Double entry-->Sorry
Hard Reset Touch2
Found this via my good friend Google (and already tested it on the phone of my girlfriend)
To perform a hard reset
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then press the END/POWER button shortly and release it. You will then see a message on the screen.
2. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
3. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Click to collapse
The Key combo works ! also if u have access to your phone from Start -> Settings -> System -> Clear Storage - i've done it once - deletes contacts , programs , clock/data , and etc. really helpfull if u got screwed by a program ! i recommend instaling a backup program and making a backup once a week ! that's how u can be sure that nothing 's gonna f8ck up when u try new things and make that backup on the memory card so u just removed it before reseting ... try a way to connect it to a PC and delete the thing u think is screwing and then load the backup and have fun ;]]

Power Button Dead - another way to flash roms via hard reset?

Hi Everyone,
Of course - it had to happen to me, one in a million; with the power button dead on my htc touch hd, is there any other way to do a hard reset, particularly when upgrading roms? As instructions are very precise to ensure you do a hard reset after flashing.
For me, the volume buttons combined with the top power button method don't work. - And unfortunetly, the unit is out of warranty.
Appreciate any suggestions, or any other methods possibly in trying to hard reset for flashing? Guess I'll give anything a go... 8)
thanks in advance.
Woz.
Clear Storage.
Use Clear Storage to reset your device back to factory default settings.
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap All Settings.
2. On the System tab, tap Clear Storage.
3. Enter “1234” and then tap Yes.
This is a hard reset via software.
~thank-you~ wasn't sure if this was an acceptable method for flashing, but new rom is now working well.
Cheers.
