SmartSKeys funny problem - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey folks,
I have a funny issue I can't seem to figure out. I have been using PPC's for about 4 years now and I like to consider myself a pretty bright guy but this one has me stumped.
I recently upgraded my Cingular 8125 to the latest relaease from cingular/HTC/Microsoft. Yes the official release. After restoring all of my data and contacts from backup, I began reloading my apps.
one of my primary utilities I can't live without is SmartSKeys. when I originally installed it I put it on the SD Mini card, and since moved it to main memory. It starts up perfectly now but I occationally after waking the device up from sleep,(Pressing the power button) I have a message on screen that says
Code:
Notification Error>>> Cannot execute "\Storage Card\Program Files\SmartSkeys\smartskey.exe"
I have no links in the start up for this item, I have searched the registry for "smartskey" and found nothing. Where do I remove it from trying to launch???????

I figured it out and wouldn't you know it was my own damn fault.
When I origially installed it I had
Code:
StartOnReboot = 1
and when you launch it makes an entry somewhere I coudn't find to reverse. I copied SmartSKeys back to my storage card, set the StartOnReboot to 0, launched smartskey.exe, stopped smartskey.exe and rebooted.
I also set StartOnReboot to 0 for my main installation in my Main Memory as well. and created a shortcut to it in my \windows\startup.
I chose to do this because I can manage what gets started and what doesn't in a more "normal" fashion.
I also found in my 'quest' the answer to another question I never posted. before I upgraded the software, I used to get the "close smartskeys?" dialog box at startup every time. I noticed that when you execute smartskeys.exe while it is running that prompts it to close.
I must have said "hey StartOnReboot... Sure" and set it to 1 then made a shortcut in my startup folder just like I have now. by the time the startup folder was run, smartskeys was already running and asking me to close it when I was "Starting" it.(or vice versa)
Can someone confirm this is the intended behavior?

I had the same problem, and your solution worked perfectly. Thanks!

phone profiles 5.5 trial making screen flicker and xda reset

i have just been testing out phone profiles. no sooner had i started to play around with it my screen started to flicker and the system kept of reseting itself.
has anyone else had this problem? :?
does anyone have a copy of 3.1 trial instead?
Is it really due to Phone Profile? I've also installed Phone Profile 5.0 on my XDA II, just last week. These two days it kept restart by itself, anytime anywhere. I tried hard reset the device but the problem still persist. I've no choice but to sent it for servicing, can only get it back in another two days.
I have not had any major issues with the Phone Profiles 5.5 trial download, but I cannot seem to remove the Program through the normal channels. Neither Active Sync, item grayed out and can't uncheck it, or via PPC removal process-says it is running, but it is not or at least I can't stop it.
Any suggestions?
Ed
i remember seeing something in another post regarding a .dll file in the \windows folder which is run on boot. renaming this file and doing a soft reset prevented this from reoccuring.
maybe you will be able to stop the process long enough to disable it. there is a free program called phm task manager which may give you a chance to end the task and rename the .dll
First solution is the right one.
1- When you try to uninstall it, remember the locking file name
2- Rename this file
3- Soft-reset
4- uninstall
5- delete renamed file
Seems to be a really usefull and nice tool but too much bugs for me: 2 popups (with IA-Caller ID) on incoming call, problems when tried to use my own template, no group-ringing... Had to uninstall too. I think I'll buy it when debugged !

Anyone having trouble with Storage Card Shortcuts?

To date I have had the following problems with shortcuts to exe files located on my 1GB Storage Card:
1) Every time I switch on the device, Skype reports that it cannot load the Skype.exe file on the Storage Card, a shortcut of which is in the Startup folder
2) Every reboot, GSPMagic cannot load itself from Startup. If however I delete the shortcut, then create a new one manually in the Starup folder, it works fine! I have checked the old shortcut and it is exactly the same as the new one! They are identical, yet one says that the source file cannot be found.
3) Microsoft Money installed a shortcut in Programs. The shortcut had no icon, and again said the file was not found or needed to be reinstalled. Yet when I created the shortcut manually into Programs, and overwrote the shortcut setup created, it worked fine.
What on earth is going on, and has anyone experienced something similar?
Most other program shortcuts to the Storage Card work fine strangely!
I was under the impression that anything called at startup had to be installed in main memory.
GSPMagic did not work for me on the storage card, but once in main memory was fine.
Can anyone confirm this?
So I have to install Skype on the Device not Storage Card? I don't think the setup instructions said this :?
Glad to hear you're using GSPM++, it means that mackaby07 and I have helped some people!
I too have had trouble when loading this on the memory card, but in the main memory it's fine, and it doesn't take up enough space to worry about either!
Haven't noticed any real speed increase with that lil prog, just testing it at the moment.
However, what about my issues with Skype, and MS Money, both loading from the Storage Card. Surely they shouldn't cause a problem? Weird one this.
CJSnet - at least on the Magician, storage card shortcuts aren't always ready to be run from softreset, it seems like it takes a few seconds after boot for the storage card to be ready to use (so much OS kerchunking going on in the background perhaps). So it's as if the storage card isn't inserted at that point, so they don't launch.
I'll be trying to write a small fix for this at some point...

Great, please do post it back here when you have!
In the meantime any way to fix for example Skype insisting on running every time I wake the device out of standby? It doesn't appear in the Startup group so must be somewhere else, and if on the Storage Card, it won't run -- I get the same error.
4) Microsoft Reader again installs an icon in Programs, but when clicked I get the same error as all the above.
This is therefore not a Startup lag issue.
The exact error is:
"The file 'msreader' [for example] cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file".
Help!
Hehe talking to myself here, but hmm, this is odd, I just tried recreating the MS Reader shortcut.
Original from Setup: 19#\Windows\msreader.exe (<-path does not exist)
Manually created by me: 36#"\Storage Card\Windows\MsReader.exe"
Why is Setup, when I tell it to install Reader on the Storage Card, creating a shortcut that does not mention the Storage Card, and therefore cannot possibly work? This must be the issue with the other items.

This is driving me mad? Why does it make every shortcut to a prog on Storage Card leave out the 'Storage Card' part of the path? Any help greatly appreciated. Maybe a reg entry? :?

Hi Vijay, any news on this handy sounding app?
I am still getting this problem, and not just after boot.
Why is it, whenever I turn the device on from standby power-save mode, I get an error with Skype saying it can't find itself on the Storage Card?
Why is Skype trying to load something when I come out of standby sometimes, but not always?

Error message "Cannot execute \program.exe"

Periodically the message in the title, specifically, in my case, "Cannot execute \Storage Card\Program Files\Garmin\GarminQue.exe" appears as an error message. The path is correct and I can run the program by clicking on the icon in the Start menu (which uses the same path in the .ink file.) However, the icon in the start menu is the generic one, rather than the one specific to the program, most of the time. Any thoughts/ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Try ScaryBears "Check Notifications". Then go to:
Options - Settings -> Check both options -> OK
Refresh -> Clear -> Extit -> Soft Reset.
Let me know if it works
I've downloaded and installed the utility and I'll be happy to post the results here soon.
Thanks!

Please do, curious to know if this works with WM5.
Or does anyone know of a similar app for WM5? I have the same problem with Agile Messenger. No link in the startup folder and the program itself is set to NOT run at startup yet I get the error could not start ...blahblah blah.
Well, it looks like it will come in handy from time to time, but it doesn't solve this problem. When I set it to automatically eliminate dupes, I still get the "Cannot execute..." errors, but sometimes I can run the program and other times I get an error message - I don't remember exactly what it was, and I couldn't get it to reproduce the problem just now - and the program won't run until I disable Scarybear and do a soft reset.
It's like this call is to a bad location, because the program always runs when I activate it (when Scarybear isn't involved) but the paths in the auto call and in the path I created in my shortcut look identical.
Hope this helps!

From what I'm seeing in your posts, it seems as if the notification might be caused by the miniscule delay in waking up your storage card. This is especially likely if you only see it when the device wakes up (after suspend, etc.).

This assessment semi-confirms what I'm saying. Upon wake-up of the device, the storage card needs time to be activated. If the call to the program runs before the storage card wakes up, the location IS invalid, but if the device is already running at full speed, then you would never get the notification. If copying/moving this .exe to main memory (and redirecting the .lnk files) eliminates the problem with the notification, then you have your answer.
I moved the app to main memory and the errors occur much less frequently, but they still happen once in a while. It must be some kind of temporary call - maybe it will eventually time itself out...
Take a look at this thread from post #9

Should solve all your problems.

Idle Wakeup error message

I got my 2G miniSD yesterday and started moving things around to free up space in the phone memory. When i moved SmartsKey and changed the startup file path for it everyting went fine until the phone went idle. Now it pops up an error message each time that says "Notification Error: Cannot execute \Program Files\SmatsKey\smartskey.exe" (the old location). I can't find where to change the settings to not look there anymore. Incidently the program still runs from the new location on my card. Can anyone help?
Put smartskey back to where it was, then close it from there. This should clear the pointer to the file location.
Move it to the new location and start from there.
Thanks, seems like everything is workin w/o error msgs now

15 mins to get up and running after soft reset :S

hey first thing i want to say is this phone is amazing and it blows away everything and anything i have had in the past (ok not my 360 though).
but in the last 2 weeks ive noticed whenever i perform a soft reset, mainly because of some program freezing, it takes an enormous time for the phone to recover functionality. i mean, that when i turn the phone on, i see the pink circle appear and then the t-mobile logo, after that the Launching HTC Sense shows and then it takes about 2 mins to completely show the home screen, i.e. clock tabs calender, notification bar and all.
thats all fine, but then when i try to scroll through the home screen tabs at the bottom it jitters and is extremely unresponsive moving after like 30 secs to 3 tabs. its the same with the start button, when i try to scroll down the apps its really slow and does the same jitters and when i select something it just does that 4 colour dots loading thing.
it happens every single time after a soft reset, however if i turn the phone on and leave it aside for around 15 mins then when i try to scroll through tabs or apps it works a treat, like nothing was wrong with it.
please can someone help me, i dont know if its some start up programs causing it or some registry tweak that needs to be applied to correct it. but any help is greatly appreciated and thank you
p.s. i have quite a few apps installed :s i installed resco explorer and through 1 of the apps 'system info', im going to post some of the numbers maybe it might shed some light.
program memory 336.9 MB - used 193.86 Mb (58%)
storage memory 214.7 MB - used 204.99 MB (95%)
storage card 1.8 GB - used 1.78 GB (97%)
here is a list of the things under \Windows\StartUp
BTTrayCE
DelWMPTempFolder
HTCStartUp
PKG
poutlook
RunGNAgent
XMmobiresetter
I suspect its down to having a shiny new toy and access to this "sweetshop" of a forum that's at the heart of the issue here. I too had similar problems earlier today when my storage memory dipped even lower than your's that resulted in pop up messages from windows warning me about critically low ammounts of storage and telling me to remove some installed or redundant files to improve performance..cue bye bye to co-pilot as I dont use it and things have improved considerably.Amongst the stuff I've installed are Tomtom navigator 7, Garmin mobile XT,Igo8.3.4,ACR hd,Totall commander,Resco file explorer, myplayer,Zoomer, skyfire,BsB Tweaks and a slack handfull of games...(all of them installed to the SD card which is now almost at capacity...roll on getting my 16gb card )
These two programs (RunGNAgent, XMmobiresetter) are not in my startup folder, so try to delete them (before deleting backup them), and see if that helps.
first of all thanks to terrytpot and Mikulec.
ill try to uninstall some apps and try an reduce the memory as much as i can and see if i notice an improvement. hopefully that'll work and ill also do the backup of the 2 files and delete them from the startup.
thanks again
P.S. if anyone has anymore ideas that would greatly appreciated. thank you
rungna.exe what is it, explained
well I did some experiments with this rungnagent.exe. witch apeared to be in my startup folder.
I installed sbp-safemode (just in case i would crash the phone (ps im having a samsung i-780).
then i moved the rungna.exe to my storragecard (away from any bootup options)
I shutted my phone down holding the on/off button and restarted it.
instead of waiting 2 minutes for the phone to startup I could scroll trough start, my homescreen and apps (really fast) within 20 seconds, wich was the startup-time when i got the phone .
I made sure that all my apps were still working and guess what they did not have any complications to any backgrounded or foregrounded apps.
I was starting to get very curious about what this app would be.
I loaded the program to my windows 7 desktop-pc and scanned it using filealyzer from savernetworking (the makers of spybot search and destroy).
the file seems to be a .net executable microsoft visual c# v.7.0 . net program with the following funtions in the hex-strings (the commands given to a program on how to funtion) and the behaviour is (in my case):
check the installed files from the program google navigator.
there's also in te hextext that it has to open google navigator trough a link in the windows folder named Google "Navigator.ink"
so when you deïnstall google navigator (in my case I did that because the software was crap). it can't load and run it's intergration with the system at startup and may hook your mobile phone down at that very same startup. the makers of the software just made a mistake in their deïnstall executable because it doesn't remove this specific file. (google navigator is not google maps google navigator is a 3d navigation program using google maps you can find their software on pdafun.net)
so when you deïnstalled the program just put the file somewhere on the phone (just in case) or at least remove it from your startup folder.
So this would mean: Problem solved thread closed XD
ps
my phone stoped freezing when i deleted this startup entry so for some reason it also hooked up the system when you opend more than 5 regular apps. having you to reset the phone all the time. those problems are gone now .
I would suggest that you install spb pocket plus buy it (or bittorent it XD). the software has many handy features with one in specific being very handy. the boot in safemode option.
when your phone crashes 2 times (so you stik your stilus in the resethole 2 times) it comes up with a special bootscreen giving you 2 options boot regular or boot in safe mode.
boot in safe mode means you startup your phone without loading any registry entries or boot commands. you just get a blank screen (no deskapps, tochflow, home shells, etc). with the regular startbutton and all programs and settings. meaning you can fix the phone when it crashed.
fixing means not having to do rom-resets (while worrying about contact backups, messages and all those apps you installed and have to reïnstall from scratch when hardresetting).
good luck with ya pocket personal computer XD.

ps: thread still closed XD
