Need 3v out of Wallaby - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi there,
refering to the document at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Connectors
I played around with the connector and found out that pin 19 CAR_ON# provides 3,14Volt.
But as I can read somewhere downwards that pin is used to be a trigger for the internal speaker-mic combination so it'll not stand any current, I think.
So, my plan is to connect some keyboard from Ericsson to the xda, but the controller within the keyboard need 3V. I don't want to carry additional batteries with me to get the keyboard to work.... :/

USB Synching WITHOUT Charging, Is it possible???

Hi,
i've googled around but haven't been able to solve this problem: every time i connect my magician to the usb port in my PC, it starts synching and charging at the same time. I know this is correct behaviour since USB ports are able to supply power to connected devices.
Anyway, i'd like to know if there's the possibility to avoid charging from the USB port (while retaining, of course, synching capability).
I need this hack 'cos i often connect my magician to the pc only for the time needed to sync my contacts/appointments (just a few seconds/minutes) or to install some small programs and i fear that recharging the battery for so a short time and 5-10 times a day may reduce its capacity or even destroy it.
I'd like to sync my magician without recharging its battery, do you thing it is possible? Is there a registry hack (either in ppc or in winxp) to disable USB power supplying? Do i need to manually hack my USB cable by cutting out the red and white power wires?

You really have nothing to worry about. Lithium rechargeable batteries do not mind having small frequent top ups.
Ni-Cads on the other hand, yes they would be ruined.
Your phone uses a Lithium battery so as I said, no need to worry. :wink:
If you really wanted to, you could build a custom USB cable which does not carry the power, by omitting the GND and +5V pins (the first and the last pin of the usb connector).
This is not really needed, because modern batteries don't get damaged by multiple recharges...

I tried it but it didn't work: the phone doesn't charge, ok, but it doesn't' sync too!!! Winxp doesn't see it.
Maybe i should keep ground wire?!? Mah!

Use bluettoth to sync the device with pc, your problem will be solved.
All 4 wires are required for usb to work.
Removing any of them will prevent USB operating.
As stated, it doesnt matter about the top up charging, dont worry.
Disable charging
Disable USB charging
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
and change the
EnableUsbCharging to '0'
then
soft reset
I'd like to try this on my Ameo. How do I use the REG files contained in the ZIP file? I am using the Ameo to connect my laptop to the Internet. It works great over a USB cable but I cannot get it to work with Bluetooth. I am concerned about constant short recharges. Is there a special folder to put the REG files into? How do I make the Ameo read the values before doing a soft reset?

I searched for that key you wrote,
but this key doesn't exist on my (german) magician.

Under BuiltIn there are many subkeys, but no usbfndrv, i searched the complete Builtin key but no key you wrote.
Can you tell me, where I maybe can create this key. Would it work ???

OFF-TOPIC PS/2 to USB convertor?

Hi all,
Apologies if this is not allowed on this forum, I've had great help from you guys in the past and I thought here would perhaps be a good place to try for help now, even though it's not HTC related! If it's not allowed please close this thread and accept my apologies.
I have just been given a new work laptop and went to hook it up to my KVM at home when I discovered that it didn't have any PS/2 ports for keyboard or mouse (yes yes I know I'm not "up with the times" and using USB!) so I went out and bought from Maplin a PS/2 to USB convertor cable - you know the type, 2x PS/2 sockets to 1x USB plug. I hooked it all up and keyboard is working but mouse isn't!
I've played around and played around trying 3 or 4 different mice and can't get the mouse to work at the same time as the keyboard :-(
Has anyone got any experience of this and have any idea how to fix it? It's really annoying not being able to use a proper keyboard and mouse, especially when trying to play Total Annihilation.

[Q] Anyone find a Serial Console yet?

I'm trying to find a serial console, hopefully to access u-boot, but I'm not having any luck.
I found 4 possible candidates on the main board.
JP1 is near the WiFi card and has mostly 3.3v on the lines.
JLTE1 is near the power LED, and has 3.3v on 2 of the lines.
JLTE2 is hidden under the front camera cable, and also has 3.3v on one of the lines.
Last is JP6, which is near the 3G connector, and also has 3.3v on 1/2 the lines.

I've hooked a scope up to all pins of these jumpers during boot and reboot, as that's when most of the serial console/kernel output would occur. But no luck.
So, has anyone found a serial console on the TPT? (or a schematic?)

I'm also looking for a serial port. Have you already checked the Dock connector? I think there is a chance that Lenovo made it on this port.
I have opened my Dock yesterday and also found some unpopulated PCB pads which are for HDMI.

Duh! I forgot about the dock connector, as I don't have a dock. Can you take a pic of the PCB? I'll order a dock, kinda handy anyway...
BTW, I also tried a USB/mini-PCIe adapter in the 3G slot. The kernel recognized the USB stick as /dev/sda, but would not mount it. So if you have root, you might want to make a mount point and rule for something like this.

The microSD option has potential, too. Make sure you get the USB, not the PCI versions. (As I'm pretty sure the PCI functionality is not available here.)
Someone harvasted a 3g mini pci modem from a lenovo laptop and installed it. The HC os had the drivers and the modem was recognized.
Yes, Ihave an Ericsson F5521GW 3G modem here. The tablet and Android recognize it and prompt me for a SIM card, which I don't have.
If you want it, I can mail it to you...
The mini-PCIe adapter for USB and microSDHC work fine. You just need to be root to mount them.

If you are looking for a serial output I have a http://www.g2microsystems.com/products/RN_270.
Basically it's a bluetooth to serial adapter. I use it on my phones and tablets with a free app called bluterm to connect to Cisco equipment with. Its pretty cool but pricey (work sprang for it).
There are a lot of different brands of these adapters (I had one from http://www.aircable.net as well that worked good).
Thanks Karl, but I'm looking to gain access to the u-boot loader. I want to hijack the boot and make it boot Linux off of the micro-sdhc card (installed in the 3G slot). Ideally I'll have it dual-boot.
I have a Trim-Slice PC on the way. It's also a Tegra-2, so theoretically, I can develop on Trim-Slice, save on micro-sd and boot from there.
However, those are some cool devices I could use for other projects. Thanks for the links!

So, i finally got the dock. No luck in finding the console.
I disassembled the dock, and probed both the 20 pins that are soldered through the board and the 40 pins on the inter-board connector.
As root I did a "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/ttyS0" to generate output, but no luck. I did find the audio and microphone lines. (/dev/ttyS0 is defined as console on the kernel boot parameter line.)
There must be a RTS/CTS line that needs to be enabled...? Or perhaps it's simply not passed through?

Extending your KF or: what to use the debug connector for

Hi all,
I already had an older post asking for what the unpopulated soldered line of pads close to the Samsung flash memory chip might be useful for. To me it's clear already that it has been used during development (e.g. from the kernel sources it looks like they used to connect an ethernet interface to those pins).
Yesterday I spent some time probing for signals with an oscilloscope. There's already good news to those who might think about extending flash memory size of the Kindle Fire: pads 1-4 are directly connected to the OMAP4's MCSPI1_{CLK,SOMI,SIMO,CS0}, pads 36-37 carry GND and pads 39-40 carry 4.2V (unregulated from battery I guess as it's also not switched off when KF is off). The MCSPI can be configured to 48MHz (according to the kernel sources) and we can start connecting SPI hardware to it. I did for fun with some tiny CAN controller I had lying around and that worked out of the box using the spidev and some generic CAN driver from the network section.
Luckily, most SDcards can also be accessed via SPI. I will also try that out soon. Transfer speeds will not exceed 6MByte/s, in practice probably only half of that, but it might be enough for those who dare to extend flash memory. While probing for signals, I also noticed that the Samsung chip seems to be accessed by a single wire only, too. I might be wrong on this, but it would certainly fit the picture as max. transfer speeds do exactly match the 208MBit/s for a 1-wire eMMC connection. Maybe someone else noticed the same already.
Unfortunately, I yet only found two other useful signals routed directly to those pads: DPM_EMU0/1 (pads 16-17). I suspect that 6 other JTAG signals are also routed there, but I can't probe for them as those pads can't be configured to be used as GPIOs.

I just realized that I should send out a quick warning to those that are a little less well equipped with electronics gear.
Most signals on that connector are connected directly to the OMAP4430 without any buffer. They're also from the 1.8 volt domain. That means you can't connect an SD card directly to those pins.
In order to connect an SD card you need at least a level shifter (like the SN74AVCH4T245 that is already somewhere on the board) to convert signals between 1.8v and 3.3v (that's what the SD cards expect). You may also need a 3.3v LDO and connect it to the unregulated battery voltage from that connector.
I'll do some experiments with that very soon, but just wanted to order an SD card slot (don't like to solder to SD card pads directly) and some other pieces before I go ahead.

Looking for ideas to make Z3 Compact with a broken touch screen usefull again

Hi,
I have a Z3 Compact with a broken screen. It displays everything all right, but the touch is pretty much dead. Shame, I loved that phone.
Thus I am looking for interesting ways to make it useful again. It runs Android 6.0.1 right now.
I have an OTG connector, so I am still able to use the device with an USB mouse - BT controller is an option as well. My most basic options are:
- emulation-handheld for old consoles like PSX and SNES
- PC Camera (with apps like DroidCam, IP Webcam)
But before that my most basic question would be:
Will I be able to use the mouse after reseting the device to factory settings? Seems like the easiest way to clear all the data.
Also, I know there are unofficial Android ROMs available - is it possible to install and use them without the touchscreen, only with USB mouse?
And now to some wishful thinking...
Are there any Linux roms for Z3C akin to Raspbian for Raspberry Pie? Z3C most likely has enough power to act as a simple desktop PC for internet and youtube, it also has peripherals (was it called MHL?) to connect it to a monitor via HDMI that should be dirt cheap by now (the question is, is it still possible to connect K&M at the same time? Is USB-hub enough?), so... maybe?
Any other ideas are welcome!

Make sure you have one of the magnetic charging cables so you can at least keep the mouse plugged in at all times AND keep the battery charged Keyboard & mouse possible IF you use something like the OLDER Logitech models with the proprietary dongle. The newer "unified" stuff won't work. BT keyboard / mouse too sluggish in my experience. If you are feeling courageous, and especially if you don't need it as a daily driver, a replacement screen is something like 25 dollars USD on eBay - get the one with a frame unless you are experienced in replacing screens - the replacement screen only units are somewhat FRAGILE.

I loved that phone, but I am just not good with tinkering inside of small electronic devices. That is why I was thinking about ways of using it with other input tools like OTG mouse or BT controler. Right now I am thinking about getting a MHL cable for HDMI output and giving it with a BT gamepad to my friends kids with some games loaded. I have no other ideas, sadly.
Do you happen to know if OTG works right away after full-reseting the devicse? This is my main concern now.

I assume that OTG would work right after a re-set. Why not? The support is built into the ROM. As for the MHL cable, another good idea, but you could just as easily screen cast, no? But, for 5 U$D, or 18 zł PLN (take your pick) an MHL cable is a "worth it" experiment. And, if you're feeling adventurous

From personal experience, the only real issues with the Z3C are that the LCD panel is held in place by adhesive, so you have to position those templates rather precisely, OR use glue :crying: OR double-sided tape AND, you have to be CAREFUL re-positioning the speaker. Caution and patience is all you need.
