Add Application Shortcut to Today screen

Hello:
Anyone know hoe to put application shortcuts straight onto the today screeen??
I already have claunch for myself, buy am setting up a simple system for mum on an older unit. I was hopinh to get a shortcut to the simpler apps like contacts straight on the today screen.
I know if you install tomtom you get an option in the today list to show tomtom on the list - This is similar to what I want (but not tomtom)
any ideas?
I use Pocket Plus from SPB. It's a great little app that also includes repeating alerts and an option to make the 'close' button really quit the app and not just hide it in background. All highly configureable. Check out Handango for a trial and purchase.
I use cLaunch. It works great and is VERY configurable! AND it's freeware!
I use the following group-settings to get four full sized icon on each "page":
Icon size =32
Icon name enabled
Icon width = 48
Icon name at bottom
Icon name height = 14
Icon margins = 1 hor. and vert.
Window margin = 0
I have enabled "Tap empty space to advance to next group" so that I can page through the icon groups easily.
(edit: didn't catch that you already tried this app! Anyway try my settings. I can't imagine a simpler way to launch from the today-screen. BTW I have turned of the menu bar also because I just use a few icon (four in each group) just like you seem to want too.)
Another option is PHM Pocket Power Tools (or is it Toys?). It has a TrayLaunch application, which allows shortcuts to be placed in it and it displays at the bottom of the Today screen - where the NEW menu item is located. It's freeware as well.
yep: your setting worked great, thanks for the help - I never though of configuring cLaunch like that.

Lets see your today screen

I need some inspiration.
Heres mine
nice looking today screen there. might be an idea to list the today plugins that your using for any users that might be unsure what they are! will post pics of mine once i have it looking how i want
Tom
This is my home screen.
I'm running:-
1. PhoneAlarm at the top
2. Plugin of my own showing date, battery life, temperature, notes and voice notes saved/outstanding and operator (with phone number popup)
3. Customised AlarmToday
4. NotesToday (the tiny blue dot, when shrunk, and then in drop down mode).
5. My modded version of QOTD.
6. cLaunch with some mods of my own.
7. SideX to run today plugins I don't need all the time, eg PocketWeather.
8. All running with SmallMenu Plus as my start menu.
Update (15 August 2005):
This is using a program I've written to provide a bigger Today Screen, removing the menu bar at the bottom. I use the bar at the top, so that stays put!)
Basic homescreen:
Showing NotesToday drop down:
Showing SideX today item (Floating keyboard):
Basic homepage showing my phone number popup - I use a dual sim so I can pop up my current telephone number (cus I'm too lazy to remember it!):
SmallMenu start menu button:
Showing my tool to relocate start button so I can have full screen applications:
Sorry for all the photos!

Phone Alarm + Pocket Plus 3 + Pocket Breeze
Here's mine..
Marsware WeatherPanel
SBSH PocketBreeze
SBSH iLauncher
RhinoStats
that's mine
Mine is just simple:
From top to bottom:
Spb Pocket Plus
PocketWeather
Phone Dashboard
XCPUScalar (The buttons at bottom and CPU load at top)
Pocket breeze / contact breeze
DK Today
SPB Pocket Plus
This is mine! Very simple, cause I don't want a crowded today screen. I have Pocket Plus 3 and Wisbar Advance 2.4 installed with a custom made Windows Mobile 5.0 theme. I can use it pretty much as a one handed device now, cause I have the cascading start menu onder the contacts hardware button and the REAL close button under the agenda hardware button. So I can navigate and close everything on my MDA by using the hardware buttons and the navigationkey. (Btw if you hold the action button the context menu will pop up, for more non-touchscreen action. ) Me iz happy.

I really really want that Phonealarm skin you have there......
dmmh - I haven't quite finished it yet; phoneAlarm still needs work on the textwindow (see the up/down arrows on the left? they blank the icons and show a textwindow containing info about SMSs etc. But Bruce (author of phonealarm) hasn't finished implementing it yet.
It still works well right now tho, shows calls/sms/voice calls (you get a red highlight when a missed call etc) and one click access to bluetooth and headset.
On the right you've got a display of profiles (I only use loud, vibrate, flight mode and silent). Clicking on the very left (invisible) will bring up config.
The whole thing is coloured to match my today theme, a plain magneto blue, to complement my OS X start button!
If you'd still like the skin, send me a PM.

I really like the "simple" today screens. Can you list what your using, from the top menu bar down.
Thanks
xcilion: it's beautiful, is it claunch, WDA, PPX or something else?!
Coming from the SPV Smartphone and p900 (WDA is like p900's Tracker software, which is a beautiful piece of software, highly recommended), I think the today screen should do that, show you what you're doing Today/let you use the phone at a glance on switching on the phone.
I think program menus/launchers should be programs away from the Today screen, because you've got to have Today plugins running in the background all the time, whereas launchers and apps you don't need often should be launched as needed to save resources (at least on HTC with smallish memory).
Did you remove the "NEW" taskbar yourself, or is that a 3rd party launcher? I've just made a tool to remove the NEW bar from normal today screen for an extra 26 pixels - yours looks great Size matters!

Start bar - Right hand side missing

Help!
The icons on the far right hand side of my task bar are missing, I now can't see the volume controls and I can only see a tiny part of the phone reception icon, how can I restore it to normal??!!
A soft rest doesn't work, nor does booting into ssafe mode courtesy of SPB pocket plus.
Hi,
It's a well know issue on win2005. If you don't show the date on the top bar, icones shift to the right and aren't well displayed. Just use this registry tweak below and choose showing time in place of blank string and the problem is solved...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
Change the date in the Titlebar
?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell "TBOpt"=hex:\
13,00,00,00
Change 3 as follows: 0:blank 1:time only 2:date only 3:date & time
Can someone figure out how to stop date line from being bold.
Combine this with follwoing to get a date that fits:
That did it
Thanks bonisalive

Some Handicap of HTC Sense

I know some of these problem is already fixed by cab provided in this forum. I just make a summary of them and hope it can be improved in next update.
1. There are only 9 short cut in Home screen
2. There are only 9 short cut in Contact screen
3. The SMS always stuck in Send Box, we have to restart device and send a new SMS to “initiate” the SMS function in order to send out the stuck SMS
4. The calendar screen is too simple. It even can’t show task & appointment on same screen
5. The Music screen is handicap. We can’t select folder to play music or delete unwanted song. Please do not link it to WM Libraries as this is too annoying and time consuming too mange song in this way.
6. The Foot print screen can only support 99 records. There is no point to limit user’s footprint as we have several GB storage on SD card.
7. The twitter screen can’t manage follower/following
8. The setting screen didn’t provide an option to switch off HSPA / Data connection. The default data connection button will be triggered by program like Weather, gmail etc which do not do the job well.
9. The setting screen didn’t provide a monitor/counter for wireless / data transmission.
10. There is no option for us to add our own icon on the slide bar. This is kind of waste for the wise idea of slide bar. If we can create our page on the slide bar, we can better manage the program icons which all sitting in the start menu now.
Anything else?
Apart from number 3 (which can be resolved by turning off HTC messaging - a real fix will follow), they're just wishes. You can't expect your personal opinion to be considered a reflection of how the device is "handicapped". I think you should change the thread title to reflect that these are your personal wishes, not faults. (You need to edit and go into advanced mode to change the title )
1. There are only 9 short cut in Home screen
I have 20 (modified from 9)
2. There are only 9 short cut in Contact screen
I have 15 stock from o2
3. The SMS always stuck in Send Box, we have to restart device and send a new SMS to “initiate” the SMS function in order to send out the stuck SMS
As johncmolyneux post
4. The calendar screen is too simple. It even can’t show task & appointment on same screen
No tasks but the calendar is effective
5. The Music screen is handicap. We can’t select folder to play music or delete unwanted song. Please do not link it to WM Libraries as this is too annoying and time consuming too mange song in this way.
I have a folder per album so if I play an album i'm playing the contents of a folder
6. The Foot print screen can only support 99 records. There is no point to limit user’s footprint as we have several GB storage on SD card.
The most recent 99 images even
7. The twitter screen can’t manage follower/following
Click on the tweet, then again with the white bground.. opens a dialogue box... click show profile... right softkey to follow unfollow
8. The setting screen didn’t provide an option to switch off HSPA / Data connection. The default data connection button will be triggered by program like Weather, gmail etc which do not do the job well.
setting screen open the comm manager which has the data connection switch. pointless unless you have turned off all automatic updates
9. The setting screen didn’t provide a monitor/counter for wireless / data transmission.
Never has, just a connection time in the notif manager. there are 3rd party applications that will do this.
10. There is no option for us to add our own icon on the slide bar. This is kind of waste for the wise idea of slide bar. If we can create our page on the slide bar, we can better manage the program icons which all sitting in the start menu now.
?????? you've lost me now

Good point, let me change the title later

volume control via hardware left side control

hi, I've just purchased a HD2 and I'm new to WM.
After installing some tweaks, I discovered that when i tune the volume using the button on the side of the phone, instead of showing the original volume level in a black screen, now it shows a small window on the top right corner.
How can I get back the original black volume control screen ?
i'm on Manila ver 2.5.19211619 and ROM 1.66 with 6.5.2 OS.
thanks
SN
Have u installed any taskbar modification?
i installed the following :
- cookie's home tab
- flashlight
- CHTEditor
-.Net CF3.5
-bluetooth toggle
- close album with X
- disable accidental link
- lonngpress send key
- faster manila tweaks
- opera 6 tabs
-reset and wifi
- speed up screen scrolling
-start menu icons and BG transparent
will any of the above cos the change ?
Thanks
Its definetely not cookies home tab, flashlight and probably not Net cf3,5, your best bet is to uninstall app one by one and soft reset after each to find out which one could be the culprit.
Thanks.
it's the last one that removed the original volume control.
i now have a new 'problem' - i could not remove the icon completely. Tried removing and the msg is that there are icons that are not removed completely and asked whether i want to tremove them, i confirmed 'Yes' but that prog will still appear in the list of installed prog. Tried a few times and it is the same.
Now the silent/ringer mode icon is mission from the task bar.
Looks like I will for other icons or reinstall the task bar icons and make do with the 'not so nice' volume control.
Thanks again
Sktools is great in uninstalling things, u can try it.
