Yes....just read the forum, you will find here as much info as possible
One good tip: Don't play with stuff you know nothing about (I mean Roms), it could brick your device!!
Unlocking the phone will do 2 things;
1 - let you use it on any GSM network but you will need to add the data plan to access GPRS or Edge (the WAN).
2 - Allow you to flash different low level programs onto the device. Think of it this way, on your phone now you can set up an email service on Tmobile but when you move to Cingular that Tmobile program will still be there but useless. Now you can flash a new Rom which has some Cingular specific programs but you have to be careful because if you mess it up, you MDA becomes as they say a brick.
This is a great forum for learning about these things, try some of the simple things like Today screens or phone dialer screens. After a little you take the plunge like this newbie and flash a new rom, overclock it and generally just make it more useable than it is now.
okay i went to the cingular store and showed the guy the phone and he said it can work for regular phone calls and texting, but it wont be able to use the web and AIM, etc.
so when you guys say i have to add the data plan do you mean i gotta install somethin seperate to the phone? or do i gotta add the plan through cingular.
because the guy says i cant use the internet with it, so thats why i ask if i need to downloard somethin separate to the phone
You would expect that the guy behind the counter would know but he's probably clueless about what your asking him.
Cingular's network is GSM just like Tmobile. The data service is called either GPRS, Edge or the next generation 3G & you need to configure the phone to access that. I don't know the access point name for cingular but you should be able to find it some where in this forum, on Tmobile it's wap.voicestream.com. It's analogous to logging onto your wired ISP, you may or may not need a password. Once configured the phone will log you on and then you'll be able to access the net or email etc.
Worse case is you can flash a Cingular specific rom.
wait so how do you configure the phone for edge?
because when i went 2 settings then connections, it had GPRS Setting

I just started service with T-mobile. I also just bought an AT&T SX56 on ebay because it was cheaper than the T-mobile version. So is it possible to unlock the phone and use it on T-mobile and still have GPRS functionality? I'm pretty sure that part is possible, but now I want to throw a wrench into the gears. Could I then upgrade to a T-mobile ROM and radio stack on the AT&T phone? OR could I be even crazier and use a T-mobile radio stack on the new official WM2003 release by AT&T? Sorry for all the weird questions, but I'm just curious as I'll have my phone during the early part of next week.
Thanks for all the help,
Danny
an xda is just like any other phone when it comes to the posiblity of changing network and getting gsm services like wap and mms and grps
first your phone need to be unlocked that is if it were locked to begin with
then you need to set up those services
how you go about doing so somewhat depend on your network provider
an std way of doing it is
enter settings
enter connections
enter connections
add a connection if non are present
otherwise maybe you have to edit a present one
choose celluarphone(gprs) or something like that
type in the access point of the network provider
often it's just "internet" but otherwise contact the
network provider as to what they use
and of cause if they ofer grps at all and if it's turned on
and then you press ok a few times
and end back at the today screen
then you open something like IE
and it should give you a login and password
page
many networks dont use those and you can just
leave them blank and press ok
ask your network provider
and then you should be online with grps
100's of people have asked the same questions and those
questions are most of the time in the forum called network
100's of people have answered those questions
so if you have more issues i'm sure that searching in that
forum will give results
Here's the deal, I have a T-Mobile prepaid sim and I've already checked the (dutch) t-mobile website. It states that GPRS should work fine with a prepaid card ad you do not need to buy another card. However, no matter what I do, I can't request the GPRS settings or get what i do get working fine..
Help would be greatly appreciated
tons of people ask the same questions in here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=11
as far as i know it all comes down to knowing the access point of ones phonecompany and possibly a signon name and pass (it's rare that it's used though)
if you dont see anybody asking the same question as you,
just try the next page or do a search excluded to that forum
containing something like "tmobile grps"
thnx for the reply, but I guess you didn't figure that I'm one of those people that can handle a search button.. Alas I didn't find anything that could be of any help though...
I did in the mean time develop a second problem, the XDA2 now reads the card a lot slower than before..
Is there a possibility that the card is malfunctioning? It's not the XDA, I've checked it with a Orange sim-card and it worked fine...
odd how is it slow ?
the sim contacts ?
login ?
personaly when i had to get grps working i phones my cellphone company and they said it would be on within 45mins (that it really took 3 days is beside the question )
then i went into connections and made a connection which i gave the name grps (but you can call it what ever you like)
then i choose cellphone (gprs) as connection
then i typed in the access point which i my case were just "internet"
then i opened IE then it pop'd up with a login name and password then i dident type anything and press'd ok then i were online
this is the default manual way of doing it
of cause i cant say if some phone companys do it different and
i know nothing of tmobil they are not even present as a company in this country, so sorry if i cant be of more help when it comes to the strange ways of tmobile
It takes a really lopng time with my sim to get a connection to the network, the coverage is good (checked it with my phone and another pda with t-mobile as well) and basically untill that time i can't load the sim-manager or anything.. nothing too bad, I just have to wait 5 minutes before the sim is loaded
cant you just destroy the sim and call for another and hopefully newer type which dont give issues ?
Well, for some weird reason my sim seems to be working fine again, still leaves the issue of trying to get GPRS working with pre-paid tho...
Hello, I'm New To The Site But I Been Told You Guys Are Some Of The Most Talented People On The Net. Well Str8 To The Point, I Have The Wizard But I Hate Tmobile Internet Service So I Would Like To Know, If I Unlock It Will I Be Able To Use Cingulars Internet Service
Well if I get you right, you want to use the Internet service of another provider but using your regular SIM ....
that is not posible, since the internet conection of the provider works with their sim card and not with a specific phone sorry!!
No, I Will Get The Cingular Service But I Jus Want To Make SUre It Will Work Before I Make Any Moves
Oh in that case it's no prob.
look in the Forum for simunlocking ... the program is called lockwiz simply download it .. and youre ppc will work with every provider even overseas !!
Now that's simply using another SIM card ... you could have a little Trouble if you want to upgrade your CID and change the Tmobile software installed on youre phone though ... depending on your chip version.
Thanx Alot.
hey guys i have a just my brothers t-mobile mda and i need it to access cingulars media net.....i have the phone unlocked and i matched the connection settings with my 8125 and for some reason i still cant access media net or send mms.....is there a reg tweak i need to do?? or am i doing something wrong?? i need some help on this one.
I take it you're using a cingular sim-card? No disrespect, just wondering, cuz if not I'm pretty sure you wont be able to access anything cingular specific
Also a piece of advice, try setting a topic that reflects the contents of the post. T-mobile mda "help" doesn't really qualify. That way you'll get a lot more replies in the future...
Noob here. I just got an unlocked Wing. I am an AT&T subscriber. Phone works great, but is there a way to use the AT&T media net features on the T-Mobile device? Can I make the AT&T network see the device as an AT&T device? I found an old thread with the same kind of question, but no real answers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I believe you have to go to at&t website and configure the options manually unless somebody creates an at&t rom, otherwise everything must be done manually
I'm completely making this up right now ... BUT:
Did you just pop your ATT sim card into the Tmobile Wing? And that's it?
I think for any other features to work, you would need to call ATT up and give them the IMEI and other information from your phone which would make it work, since that's how they detect what type of phone you have server-side and return the information they think is pertinent to your phone...
If youre phone isn't "regsitering" ... or its trying to send your phone the info that should have gone to your old phone that's on the account ... or it may not be sending anything at all.
I suggest, call ATT and explain the situation. I seriously doubt they're going to say anything... since you're still paying THEM every month.
Once they have the necessary info from ur phone, it should take 15 min to provision or something and boom ... everything should work.
Have someone made a cab with those ATT features you are trying to use? Maybe over in the kaiser forum who are mainly all ATT users bc of the Tilt
