I installed Summitter's Cingular Custom AKU 2.3 and I just realized (sorry if posted already) that you can now send SMS to email addresses. I don't use this feature but I've seen people asking for it so I figured I'd post it.
Not sure if it's specific to any Summitter customization or just part of AKU 2.3 but it works well. Now when you type in a contacts name for example, it shows both their cell phone # and their email address if it's in the contact.
I am running a T-Mobile rom and I would like to know if there is anyway to do this with any of the roms available for me
I can't answer about the T-Mobile ROM, but the ability to send SMS to email is also part of the latest official Cingular ROM.

I've come across a problem in SMS addressing on the XDAII Inbox program. When you compose a new SMS message in Inbox and then look up a number in Contacts, it pastes into the "To" line without a "+" symbol at the beginning, e.g. "44 1234 567890". The message will not send properly until a "+" is inserted before the "44" on the To line.
I don't know if anyone else has come across a similar problem or whether it is something to do with the way I store my contacts, as I use the full international format "+44 1234 567890"?
Rafil. :?
This was a well-known bug in the initial software release, and has been corrected in the first update. O2 seems to not yet have released that update officially, but there are versions for the i-mate and MDA II on the 'net that also work fine with the XDA II. Try the search function in this forum, and you'll find all the information you need about the updates.
Cheers
Daniel
I also had the same problem with my XDAII, can anyone tell me why can I find this bug fix software?
Million thanks in return as it is annoying to me when I need to send SMS everytime.
As tadzio pointed out there is a new ROM 1.60 available for the XDAII it's just that O2 have not released it yet, as they are still testing it. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5118&highlight=upgrade+rom+1+60
Personally, I think I will hang on a little longer until O2 officially release it, as the problems are minor on the whole.
Regards,
Rafil.
Outgoing mails looses contet !
Semms that the mail is been cut of after 2-3 lines of basic text, written in the mail.
All other is fine, atachments and so on is working.
The really odd thing, the mail goes into the sendt box, and there is everything just fine, so there are no means to control what was sendt.
Using the imate JasJar to write a e-mail from a pop3 acount.
Using GPRS/UMTS for connection.
Any clues ??
Kim
Noone seen this?...
Hmm I cannot see any good reason for this either..
grrrrrrrrrrr
Hi!
I also have this!
I just want to add that it does not happen all the time.
But the mails I send that get cut, get cut at the same place each time.
I have verified this by sending to my home PC the same mails that my collegues report having missing content.
This has got to be fixed.
Frode
Ahh
Maybe we do things different in Norway ?
The use of "sym" caracters maybe ?
I'll have a look at the mails again...
Kim
Did you find anything...?
Frode
I tried to send email with 20 lines of text using 'SYM' chars, with my Qtek 9000, without any problem
To POP3 accounts, because in GMAIL, chars like "èüàä" are badly translated.... but no lines lost :?:
Honestly, I have not had time yet to have a look @ this, but it is def. weird
...
I have had this problem using my yahoo account to send mails. It seems to get cut after 2-3 lines yet in the sent folder it looks like it has sent it properly....
please help this is driving me crazy...
my emails didnt have any sym characters so I doubt the problem has to do with that.
This is not just a nasty bug!
This degenerates the universal into being nothing but a toy!
I have had several "semi-important" business emails being sent with only the "greetings" section intact!
If I cannot find a fix, I will not be able to use the device for emails, and as a combined phone/PDA, this would be quite stupid......
As it is now, I always have to send an SMS or make a call a while after sending a reply via email to check if the reciever got my whole message, or just three lines......
Bullocks!
Frode
Weird, mate.. what kind of ROM are do you use :?:
I just tried to send a 50k email by UMTS, no problem with a Qtek 9000..
Could it be an upload limitation :?:
How do I know which ROM I have?
Thanks,
Frode
Ooopss, good question..
With Start -> Settings -> System -> Device information, you can know the version..
I know I've a Qtek ROM because it appears on the screen when I do a reset.... but I think it's possible to change these images in a ROM.. not 100% sure about that..
Maybe someone else can reply :?:
Im using a standard M5000 with the following ROM:
ROM: 1.13.49 WWE
Radio: 1.03.00
I will try and do some more tests today to see whether it was just a one off problem or consistent...
i will also try sending mails with another pop3 account to see whether it has something to do with the account.
I still cannot find any good reasons for this, I would assume this would be high on a priority list @ MS !
Hi!
I whant to report another annoying bug, which makes it impossible to rely on my Qtek9000 with important mails.
If I compose the new mail in RUSSIAN, and scheldule it to be sent via MS Outlook on the next sync, this mail is sent as "????" signs.
English mails goes Ok.
Any suggestions how to fix it?
Have anybody face with the bug in different languages?
Is the WM5 fully unicode?
Thank you in advice.
i have the I-mate Jasjar and i use it all the time for emails since i do 90% of my work outside on the go. i never faced any issues sending emails through GPRS, no matter how big was it or what attachment do i put.
this is the rom i have:
rom: 1.13.53 WWE
radio: 1.03.01
extrom: 1.13.179WWE
i also checked with other people having the same device if they have this kind of problem, no one ever faced it, they all have the same rom as mine, or the arabic enabled rom for the Jasjar, which is the original rom shipped with the device.
it might be a rom issue as it's mentioned.
I'm told that every device supporting SMS has an email address that can receive txt messages. Something like : [email protected]
I'm on Tmobile, and would like to know that email. Could a guru lead me in the right direction?

I myself used T-mobile Mobile email. Basically this is a service that when people email your address you receive it as a text message. From my experience of this service you are charged 10p for every text received and this is not part of any allowances you may have. It usually only send you one sms of the first few words from the email.
I assume this is what you mean, see the link below for official details of the service...
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=phones_tfe_me
In my opinion its to be used wisely and the address given to only inportant people who cant text you via a mobile phone.
Thank you for your reply. Sadly this does not seem to work very well. I had it working yesterday but today no matter how many emails I sent my phone never receives the SMS.
This is really disapointing as I'm using it to monitor the status of servers.
hi.
not familiar with t-mobile but I guess all operators are somewhat similar.
I use vodafone and the email address is connected to a standard mailbox which is reachable through a web browser. in order for the incomming mails to generate a sms I had to activate it in the same portal, I was also able to create rules on which mail that should be forwarded as an sms.
hope this helped.
br, charlie
Try something like this:
[email protected]
k
nope, no luck, it's very strange, that email to sms feature was working yesterday night, and today nothing.
Get the web'n'walk add-on, an account with mail2web and the AKU2 rom to enable push email. Then just email your mail2web address instead of your phone number, if a server has a problem then remotely administer it from your MDA PRO using terminal services.
Thanks for all the responses so far. I thought I'd give you a small update. Yesterday I was testing this further. My phone was receiving SMSes from other networks immediately, but none of the [email protected] made it through.
Then this morning, I received 28 text messages in one go. All at the same time.
Obviously the routing they use for the [email protected] mobile email option is cheap and unreliable.
So I've bought a few credits of an email2sms gateway, will let you know if that performs better.
Shuflie, regarding the AKU2 account, I got push email from 4smartphone - but I was under the impression that required the GPRS/3G connection to be always on on the phone? Please do correct me if I'm wrong.
Right here's the follow up as promised.
I ended up signing for sms2email. I didn't know what to expect but it turns out to be very reliable. They deliver sms super super fast, which is what I need for server monitoring.
Seems convenient, and you can use distribution lists for SMSs, meaning you don't have to create dozen of account in your monitoring software just for the purpose of ringing everyone. Apparently you can also SMS BT lines, which in turn will read the message text-to-speech if the recipient doesn't have an SMS-compatible handset.
Hiya, i currently have an xv6800 on VZW with an unlimited data plan.
I have dcd's 3.2.6 and radio version 3.42.50
Everything is going great, its fast, gps active, except I am currently unable to send or receive picture messages. I cant find any options for this
I have the verizon carrier cab installed
Just curious if i am missing a certain cab file or if someone could enlighten me on this?
Sorry if this has been posed before (I searched and only found sprint related issues)
Thank you very much for your time,
Cody
I was actually wondering this for the longest time, too. Before (I don't remember what rom I had at the time), when I would receive an MMS, I wouldn't be able to download the images or whatever was included, but at least it would inform me. Now it isn't even listed under the messaging accounts (I have titan reloaded 1.1). Is it not possible for Verizon?
Same Here
The only option I have is to send it via email. I have even tried to set the camera setting to MMS size but still I can not find an option to send out a MMS, who know how many incoming MMS's I have missed.
-Regards
Got it to work
Check out this thread, it may help you

I now have Verizon MMS - tested to send and receive, but my SPB Pocket Plus does not show that I have received a message (but I do get a notice and an icon in the top of WinMo 6.1 - and new MMS's only show the persons phone number, not thier name), nor does winmo 6.1 correctly thread MMS like it does for SMS. Don't know if it is buggy or SPB does not like the .cab file?

I recently changed my rom to a new 6.5 version and when in the dialer screen if I had a contact showing to the right of the name and number there was a icon which brought other info such as other numbers for the contact, email and texts sent and recieved and I think there was tabs with included facebook also, does anybody know how to install these extra tabs etc as I didn't like that rom and have tried several other 6.5 roms but none of these included it.
