I've come across a problem in SMS addressing on the XDAII Inbox program. When you compose a new SMS message in Inbox and then look up a number in Contacts, it pastes into the "To" line without a "+" symbol at the beginning, e.g. "44 1234 567890". The message will not send properly until a "+" is inserted before the "44" on the To line.
I don't know if anyone else has come across a similar problem or whether it is something to do with the way I store my contacts, as I use the full international format "+44 1234 567890"?

This was a well-known bug in the initial software release, and has been corrected in the first update. O2 seems to not yet have released that update officially, but there are versions for the i-mate and MDA II on the 'net that also work fine with the XDA II. Try the search function in this forum, and you'll find all the information you need about the updates.
Cheers

I also had the same problem with my XDAII, can anyone tell me why can I find this bug fix software?
Million thanks in return as it is annoying to me when I need to send SMS everytime.
As tadzio pointed out there is a new ROM 1.60 available for the XDAII it's just that O2 have not released it yet, as they are still testing it. See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5118&highlight=upgrade+rom+1+60
Personally, I think I will hang on a little longer until O2 officially release it, as the problems are minor on the whole.
Regards,
Rafil.

Just got a new XDA2 and I'm having a strange problem with text messages. I send a text as a single message ( less than 160 characters ) but at the other end it arrives as three seperate texts. The message appears to be broken up randomly, often broken in mid word. This has happened with messages sent to several different people including one on O2 like me so it seems its not a cross network problem. I've tried changing the phone for a new one and that didint solve it and if I use the same sim card in my old T68i everything is fine... Anyone else experieneced this ?? Any advice very welcome as O2 dont seem to have a clue...

Hi Gavin!
Same problem here , what extras are you running? I have battery pack 2004, MS voice, Games pack 2. then in my inbox 112 sms, sent items 107. also running check notifications. Sound more like an O2 problem  . Anyway let me know if you managed to resolve the problem!
MerryXmas & Happy New Year!
Kind regards  Jim.
I also had this problem with my MDA II, but only once. Since then, (and even after at least 6 Hard Resets) everything seems to work out fine.
Don't know what causes this problem, but maybe it helps you to know that I had this one in spite of using t-mobile.
MDA II
I dont know if this is related but when I use ' even at less than 160 the messages become split into 2 or more. But when i remove the ' it goes back to the original unsplit form, so I avoid using ' in my sms.
It IS related, as that is the fault. If you do a search on these forums you'll find lots of posts about this...I've posted a few times myself.
You say you bought a new XDA2, I'd be interested in knowing whether this is NEW or new to YOU...in either case does the phone have IntelliPad and IntelliDialer installed? If so, then that would further back up my theory that it's the dictionary that IntelliPad, in particular, uses and causes the old unicode problem.
As advised before on these forums, try going to Inbox > Accounts > Accounts - SMS > "Send SMS messages using UniCode when necessary", and choose No on this option.
See if that helps.
Cheers
Anthony
hey guys
I had this problem for sooo long and really annoyed my girlfriend, lol!
But the solution is: Goto Settings => input => Wod Completion and turn of ' Replace text as you type'. It splits the message beacause as you type a word like "Im" it automaticlly changes it to "I'm" however the apostrophe in the middle is the curly kind n for some reason isnt supported by SMS. So as long as you send txts with striaght instead of curly apostrophes you should be fine. (well it worked for me! )

Hi All,
I'm running 1.66.00WWE & when i send SMS messages to people sometimes only half of it comes through for them. The SMS's are not over the character limit, for example a 20 char SMS sometimes only comes out with the first 10.
Anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?
I've had this problem before. For the recipient, it's similar to that of recieving a multi-page sms which of course takes time to update on their phone.
I just wrote it off as a service provider problem, but if others have the same problem, maybe it is handset related.
Truncated SMS Messages
I too am having problems with truncated messages (just no text actually) on some occasions. Not sure if it is reception related or what. Can anyone help. I'm running latest versions of ROM on o2 XDA II, using an Orange SIM
In my case it was all or nothing. I ended up putting +44 in front of all my UK mobile numbers and that seemed to solve it -not sure if it is the same problem as you are having though.
I also had the similar prob before, and got it solved with the help of gazzaman2k. Try this out, this might do it.
1.) Go to Inbox
2.) At the bottom, Click Accounts, then Accounts again.
3.) Tap *SMS
4.) Untick \"Send SMS messages using unicode when necessary\"
5.) Press \'OK\' then the \'X\'
Let me know if this fixes it.
was supposed to POST reply to thig, but Gut_S beat me to it, hehehe.
YUP, unticking that SEND SMS using UNICODE when necesarry will solve this problem, and TELL your friends about it. SERVICE providers GAIN a LOT from this bug coz you might think your sending only 1 SMS but actually it is counted as 2 or even 3 mesages by the network.
cheers.
Sorry to return to an older topic, but nobody answered me and this bug is really annoying...
Sometimes selecting a contact and "send Sms" from its card pulls up a blank SMS form, without the receiver's number already typed in. This happens with some contacts only, but... HOW DO I FIX THIS?
TIA,
yours truly (exhausted)
Hmm... have you tried recreating the contact?
This happened to me before, when sending text messages, or even emails, it lets you just click on the space provided and puts in the contact numbers. However for SMS, use your stylus and tap on the "To:" word.
Ta da! It's actually on the manual and I've been trying to figure this thing out for a while myself. Good luck
I have tried this on my qtek and does not have this bug. Do you need to send sms this way or can you not select message\new then select to to get list of contacts - may solve your problem. If not prob a ROM problem - did a quick search cannot find any references to new qtek italian rom so suggest you go to qtek italian website to look for new rom. Or upgrade to WWE ROM
Good luck
Cutejules: I know you can use that workaround, but still the problem remains. Why only a few contacts have this bug? How can it be solved?
Meschle: I don't think there is any upgraded IT rom, but I will look about the WWE thing (which I don't know anything about, but I'm sure there are infos about somewhere in this forum)
i dont think it pulls up a blank page, the problem I noticed after a while is it pulls up a sms page and shows you half way down the page as if you have scrolled down.
the work around = scroll back up.

the number should be saved as mobile, may be you saved it as somthing els like home or work.
Karzi: nope, it's the actual "To:" field which comes up blank.
Ammar: Nope again. The "missing" numbers are correctly listed as "mobile"
This is really driving me crazy...
Hello !
I have a question for a friend of mine.
He has got Qtek 9000 with the new Rom 1.30.89 Ita
With the previous Rom 1.13.75 his 9000 automatically disconnect after sending an MMS
Now with the new Rom he must manually disconnect it
Then he tried another Rom but for I-mate and with this Rom the automatic disconnection works
So he doesn't know why with some Roms automatic disconnection works and with others doesn't works
Does anyone know the way to automatically disconnect after sending MMS ?
Thanks
I have this problem to, hope we can discover a fix for this, also on the subject of MMS, when you compose the MMS message, when you click in the "To" field why do we not get a "add from contacts" selection, its tedious having to go into contacts and copy a phone number and then paste it into the MMS "To" field???

If i click on "To" i can choose the contact in the Contacts window, why you must copy/paste ?
I hope to fix the autodisconnect function because my friend is going crazy
Diggia, thnk you so very much, I can't believe I was clicking in the text box NEXT (Doh!!) to the "To" command, you have made me very happy!
I have the same problem. I am using the latest I-mate WWE and it does NOT disconnect.

@SHRED
I really don't know why with some roms the autodisconnect works and with others doesn't works
Could be any registry settings to modify ?
i have this issue aswell. for me as i use push email it is very annoying as i have to have gprs settings for MMS and different settings for internet/ Push Email.
I think it is good news that earlier ROMs did not do this because they will be able to fix it in a new ROM revision...
the QTEK extnded rom includes this file: MP_MMSAutoDisconnect_060106.CAB
i didn't run it, and didn't check how my mms behaves so i can't tell you what it does.
anyway, here it is.
The problem of not disconnecting after sending / Receiving MMS is listed on the I-Mate Jasjar page amongst the "Known Issues". However it looks as if this was a feature by design in the latest Jasjar ROM because alongside this being mentioned as a known issue they say that it does not disconnect so that it is ready to send or receive the next MMS
Regards
i have this problem too! Someone has a solution (Germany Qtek ROM)
anyone found a solution for this problem?
i cannot download the cab attached above! any other location to download plz?
Hi,
I just got hold of my new HTC TyTN II. It does not recognize contact names while receiving sms messages. Something to do with country code may be. Is there a fix for it?
Thanks and regards,
Hmmm you sure you have your contacts in the phone?
Yes of course, I do see names while receiving calls. This is a known issue for some WM5 devices. I saw a post in the forum that had a fix for WM5. I am not sure if something similar is there for WM6. I'm surprised why nobody else has raised it yet ....

Usually whatever works in wm5, will work in wm6. So try that fix. I have been using WM6 for about an yr now, and use SMS all the time, never had this problem ever before on two seperate devices with SMS. Good luck!
Just use a little free program named:
SMSDRFixWM5.cab (works in WM6)
Sorry my bad english!!
Ya I tried smsdrfix. I'm even communicating with the developer of this prog .nothing seems to work so far. Kinda fed up ........ thanks for your responses though.
I heard of this before... have you tried to copy your contact to your phone or visa versa
