HI there
I installed the vga hack, but I get some strange behavior on the today screen top bar no clock no phone symbols, no ok text only a square...
Better than explain it here it’s a screen shot:
Can any1 send-me the right vga Files or help-me solving this ?
Thanks
When you instaled VGAhack, you must copy 12 files to PDA to directory Windows?
I think you don´t copy this .dll files, and you don´t see anything in top or bottom bar on your PDA
You don't have the right files for AKU2. Download from:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Tools_Programs/VGA_AKU2.zip
Did you manage to make it work?
Does it slow down the PPC?
And the "VGA hack" you mentioned, it's just this files, or I need something else?
Thanks in advance.

Follow the instructions here and like the last person said: BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP before you make ANY major changes to your PDA.
I have not noticed a slow down or a battery drain. But you do need good eyesight.
hi thanks for the answer.
But i still don't have the top right corner info (U / network level/battery)
i don't want to hardreset, but maybe i have to do it and start from a clean install....
what are the dlls that control the topbar, do you know ?
I also don't have the software keyboard (strange)..
Sorry dunno. I have the latest Qtek ROM and what I posted works perfectly. You just need to: Take the dlls in the original zip and then overwrite them with the AKU2 ones. Copy the dlls on the SD, move them to the windows folder on the phone, run sdkerts.cab and then move to truevga. Oh and vjbigphone cabs as well.
That does work. Check to make sure you copied ALL the dlls
Found the problem: my ozsetings
i should had
MenuBar Font: Bold 900
System Font: 1200
and i had
MenuBar Font: Bold 1300
System Font: 1500
So its fixed and i return to full vga
thanks for all you help.

I tried to find here what it is.., can't find it.
Anyone who can tell me??
Thanks Rene
Looking at them, I assume it's the resource files for using Real VGA mode.
Put them in /Windows and you should be able to use ozVGA to switch to 96dpi.
However, they don't work for me anymore! Since upgrading to the latest QTek ROM, I haven't been able to run my JJ in Real VGA mode. Not sure why, but there are loads of missing/incorrect icons. I'm probably doing something wrong though, 'cause I haven't seen anyone else complaining yet....
It´s the dlls used for OZVGA and the cab that overrides the security functions. Somebody prepared that zip for use with AKU2.

I had this problem with the older VgaRes.zip file and Qtek rom, but this one works for me. What I did was:
1. unpack the contents
2. run sdkcerts.cab
3. copy dlls and other files to /Windows
4. run sdkcerts.cab one more time
5. Use ozVGA to change mode
and it works now. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Haven't really had time to do anything geeky recently, but I have a whole evening free today, and I'm going to spend it organising my 'electronic life'!
I just changed to the new QTEK ROM. No problem with VGA. I just put everything back as it was before (run SDKcerts, copy files, fix system apps, install VJBigphone) and everything was fine.
This VGA works only on universal or can be ported to other devices as well?
Guys, thank you..
I'm gonna try this out.
Grtz Rene
could somebody put a link to the files please.

My second splash screen (Windows Mobile) has disappeared. ATM only a white screen and fortunately I can boot.
I copied welcomehead.96.png to my PC to see if I can edit it (YES) and back to Wizard \windows folder and still same white one...
Any suggestions (I do'not want to flash or something like that because it takes a lot of time to shapen up the programs installed)
BTW, I have AKU 2.3 Mr. Clean 2.24 ROM. I can't edit extended_rom because of Wizard Extended_Rom 2.xx restrictions (no solution yet, at least I couln't find anywhere, Just Buzz was working on it)
:?:
I had this happen to me too, if you are using your own one, just replace the files again. But if you are not sorry you will have to find someone with that file. I copied it in 2 times and it works ok now!
Find what? an original "welcomehead.96.png file" ?
ya, cus i have changed my, but i did not like it so i did not keep a copy of the one it came with!
(cus the 1st file i put there did not a thing but then the 2nd one said to replace the file and i said yes!)
...It isn't dissapeared. Just delete the new one and voilà, there it is: the original.
I myself got a white screen after I installed pocketRSS reader...
Exactly the same program "pRSSreader". After installing it just a white screen. Will give a try to delete.
I have replaced it many times but nothing changed. Deleting might be a solution as yours
I'll post if I manage
Thanx

NOPE, didn't worked for me. I deleted ones, there u go, the original ROM file. but nothing changes.
...only when you uninstall pRSS the whitescreen disappears. It doesn't matter whatever you do.
But IF you have no pRSS anymore then you can regain the original welcomehead.96.png, because it's not gone but hide away...
Easily changed 1st splash with rom update (seems harder) but I'll give up the 2nd one because I like to use pRSSreader. Maybe ask the developer for a bug.
Thanx anyway
I tried deleting the welcomehead file but Resco says it can't be deleted as its in ROM.
I have the same problem, installed pRSSReader, it made my screen disappear. So I uninstalled it but the problem is still there.
Any fixes?
I would try the ones above but I can't seem to delete the png file.
Thanks..
copy welcomehead.96.png from Windows folder to anywhere(can be your PC) and copy it back to Windows folder.
think it will work
I tried that. It doesn't seem to work
I renamed the welcomehead.96.png file and then I deleted the renamed one. It created a new png file which, when I open, I can see is the Windows Mobile screen.
But it doesn't show on startup.
I also tried copying it to my storage card and then copying it back to Windows.
Doesn't work
Any other suggestions, please?
if you navigate to
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin
Change the value of Enabled to 1
Soft Reset
do you get your logo now ....
I know changing the value to 0 should give the the default windows mobile screen
It was already set to 1 so I took a chance and changed it to 0.
Well...its still the same.
This is unbelievable. I also had a go with Total Commander and some of the instructions around this forum. Nothing.
I can't believe the developer of pRSSReader can screw up so bad...I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know to steer clear.
Thanks for your help, though...
try to create another welcomehead.96.png with properties 240x320 24bit (important) with your PC copy it over PPC windows folder. it should work.
i have done like this way and i change whatever i want but pRSS reader get things conplicated if u want your welcome screen do not use that program as well.
Should the image be 320x320 or 240x320? I know the resolution of the device is 240x320 but many people who have posted here on how to change the boot images say it should be 320x320.
I will do the above and let you know how it goes.
I can easily change my 2nd splash before pRSSreader and now and will after (uninstalled that RSS program)
I posted this thread becuse I wanted to learn if that program created the bug or not and if it's possible to overcome that problem without uninstalling. Asked the buddy who wrote pRSSreader and absolutely he was not aware of the issue. maybe will solve it eith the next release who knows ??
all my images are 240x320 24bit .png and they work perfect.
let me know how it goes as u told
Well, I edited the original 320x320 image to 240x320 and then copied it to my Windows folder. It still doesn't work! It's so strange
I can't imagine how its not working because it seems to be for everyone else.
I can confirm that the problem took place after I installed pRSSReader as I didn't install any other program before that for at least 3 days. It's a very nice program (and free, which makes it nicer) but not worth the trouble if it messes up my system.
Well, I guess I'll learn to live with it...till I decide to do a hard reset and install all my stuff again (which is just scary as I have a lot of stuff and it'll take up tons of time).
Hi Guys i own a imate JAMin that i bought and it has telstra branding on the phone/pda, it isnt locked to this carrier, but i need to get rid of there loaded stuff on the pda
what i need to know is a few things if possible please
1. is there a walk through somewhere on how to change the rom to a standard one
2. where can i download a new rom from
3. can i screw it up bad ?
any other help would be great
Thanks
t0ne
Easy, just download Total commander from http://www.ghisler.com/
Open it up and at the top type \Extended_Rom
This will show the contents of your extended rom, you will see loads of things but the ones you want are the cabs relating to your provider. Or all providers actually, Delete allt the cabs that dont start with Default_ these are what brand your device when you hard reset.
Now just hard reset, it will isntall all the normal stuff but will leave you with a brand free jamin.
Hi dannyoneill,
thanks for the program, only problem i have is how do i add the jamin to it so that i can see it and do what u r saying ?
thanks
You need to download and install Windows CE FS plug-in. You will then see a mobile device entry in the file window. I recommend dragging it to the toolbar so you will always have a button for convenient access (total commander can open files directly form the device).
Also I don't remember it now, but if you search this forum there is a registry tweak that will unhide your extended ROM so you can use it for extra storage space (and manipulate files in it using regular explorer both on device and PC). You can use the free PHM Registry editor to apply the tweak.
Just follow the instructions to install total commander onto your PPC. Make sure you click the link to the mobile version and not the desktop version.
thanks dannyoneill, got it working..
jsut a few other questions if u dont mind
im in the \Extended_Rom folder with the default stuff but the telstra stuff i want to get rid of has Default_Telstra_australia_SA_UN_V2.20.CAB and also Default_Australia_Telstra.CAB as the file names, will these be ok to delete still ?
thanks
Yes, you can delete them.
If you really want everything here is safe to delete. What it usually contains are patches like driver updates, applications like the backgammon, antivirus and Skype.
Below is taken from another post, its a little out of date but still good to see whats what. For me. I removed all the operators apart from my own (as it doesnt brand) plus got rid of backgammon, antivirus (totally useless on a PPC) and skype as the latest version is better (especially if you apply the registry fix to get it working)
Autorun.exe
Default_Backgammon_PPC_IMAM001.CAB >>> Backgammon
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_Wiz_range.CAB >>> THE DREADED ANTI VIRUS STUFF
Default_CAB-shortcut-CDL-08Sep05.CAB >>> Clearview PDF
Default_cdl_wwe_version.cab >>> Some Imate stuff (Harmless)
Default_ie_view.sa.cab >>> Some Imate stuff (Harmless)
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab >>> Some Imate stuff (Harmless)
Default_SkypeForPocketPCnonxScale.CAB >>> SKYPE FOR NONE XSCALE !!!
Default_SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB >>> The pretty Dialer and smart-dialer stuff
Install_Tsk.exe >>> This Installs all the “Default_” Files
Setup.exe >>> This allows for Selection of the “Operator Settings”
These are the “Settings” which is not needed at least in the GULF STATES
KPN_Nederland.CAB
MTN_SouthAfrica.CAB
O2_UK_Contract.CAB
O2_UK_PAYG.CAB
Optus_Settings.CAB
Orange_Nederland.CAB
Orange_UK_Contract.CAB

Vodacom_SA_WAP2.0.CAB
Vodafone_AU.CAB
Vodafone_Nederland.CAB
Vodafone_NZ.CAB
Vodafone_UK_Contract.CAB
Vodafone_UK_PAYT.CA
I made a copy of all of the above to an SD card BEFORE DOING ANYTHING else (NoBackUp…learned his lesson……Harry Potter !!!)
So I Reduced my ER to Just
Autorun.exe
Default_Backgammon_PPC_IMAM001.CAB
Default_CAB-shortcut-CDL-08Sep05.CAB
Default_cdl_wwe_version.cab
Default_ie_view.sa.cab
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
Default_SkypeForPocketPCnonxScale.CAB
Install_Tsk.exe

How just simply Delete !!!
Don’t forget to hard reset let the imate setup run (will not only install the stuff you did not delete) and try out your new toy.

dannyoneill thanks heaps,

thanks again

Poll for sticking this 3d!
THANKS !!!
..._
P.S.: may I install basic stuff to the ExtROM while it's hidden ?
Or, if I need to unhide it, install, then re-hide, will such software still playable ?
I mean for example:
- Total commander itself
- Resco explorer
- Storage tools
- Sprite Backup
- and so on...
Is it a strange idea ?
Thanks again for this illuminating thread.
You can unlock and install things no problem, not done it myself, done know if they will still be usable after its re-hidden i would think not.
The extended rom is reserved so empty or not its not going to give you more ram or rom storage at all. The best thing to do is unlock it and use it for storage. The annoying thing is if you hard reset you then have to re-unlock it.

BTW, on the i-mate website's JAMin support pages, you will find specific operator settings for Optus in a downloadable CAB file, which will setup the wireless settings for your device.
I'm using latest Destinator 6.1.1 with Helmi_c latest Rom Aku3.5 in my Qtek 9000.
My problem is that I have the VGA hack activated and when I start Destinator, all is fine except in the map view where the menu and info appears in the middle of the screen.
I try'd a skin form athor forum that say is for VGA, but all graphics become corrupted. Anyone knows of I Skin or way to make Destinator looks better in VGA mode?
Thanks
Hi @ all,
I had the same problem! ;-)
After some search through different forums I found the solution. Test and work 100% for me.
You have to do 2 things:
1. copy the "Destinator.exe.0407.mui" to the prog-folder. Choose the right numbercode ("0407" is germany) by renaming. (Don´t forget to change name of the the "Destinator.exe.0407.mui.txt" attachment!!!!!)
2. copy the folder contents to your /Skin/all directory, but don´t forget to make a backup.
3. have fun.
Hope this is helpfull.
Cheers Chris

I'm using WM5 in English, but i'm using Destinator in Portuguese, what is the code that I must put in the mui file?
Thanks again.
I found it.
This skin is working, but the bottom information bar don't fill the full lengh of the screen in landscape mode.
But anyway is mutch better then the original.
WMDC icon
Installation:
1 - install the attached cab file: "_light" means it only has the full color versions of the icon, low-colour icons have been removed to save space;
2 - remove the pocket pc driver: connect the pocket pc to the computer, right click 'Computer' on the start menu, select Manage, select Device Manager and expand Portable Devices category, right click PocketPC and select Uninstall;
3 - disconnect and reconnect the device to the computer for Vista to reinstall the driver and copy the icon from the Pocket PC
And you're done!
If the old icon is still displayed, reboot.

unique! a more personalized Trinity and Vista experience
Nice to see some people liked this.
I was having an issue with the Vista cache the other day, a test icon I made was a little bit reluctant about leaving the icon cache, so that I had a mixed icon([email protected] [email protected] [email protected]).
The only way to completely rebuild the Vista icon cache is to change the DPI, reboot, change them back to the original value and reboot again.
Glad you like it
I am glad everyone is benefiting from it. If you are looking for more icons, there are 25 different icons in the original thread.
Glad the information was helpful.
Here's my version of the P3600 with a drop shadow.
Unzip, copy to the \windows folder and reinstall the drivers.
Who has a good looking MDA VARIO II for me please?
And not slid open like my Avatar but cool like the trinity here
Hoho....Really really cool...Great Job!
updated the black icon
Thanks Apoc,
Great job...

Hey there!
Does this thing work with WM6? I had some troubles with another device using WM6, sync.ico was read only and hidden so could not have been overwritten. Can anyone confirm this works on WM6?

It does work on WM6. You can always overwrite files in ROM, a new 'temporary'(will stay there until hard-reset/deletion) file can be created and it'll be seen as the only one on the device, you may have to use resco explorer or copy via activesync for that tho. And have you followed those steps enumerated on the 1st post? especially the second one.
thanks for so much...
Please help. I have tried everything with no success. I have tried uninstalling, rebooting.
I have Windows Vista x64 and WM6. Somehow windows Vista has a cache of the generic icon somewhere. Where can I delete it? (I have tried the uninstallation of the usb device).
