I've been using my T-Mobile MDA Vario (latest T-Mobile ROM) for a while now and it intermittently loses sound! By that I mean the screen tap clicks, the beep when you change the volume using the slider and most importantly - incoming call ringer! A soft reset fixes it for a while, and sometimes changing the volume one notch up or down fixes it (but not always). Anyone come across this before?
TIA!
Tim
I had this problem with wisbar advanced lite - do you use it? After using the phone, there was no sound until i performed a soft reset - after i unisntaled it, the problem never came up again...

Nope...here's everything I have installed
Thanks for the reply. No, the only third party software I have installed is:
Smartskeys
Omapclock
TomTom5
ADBWeather Plus
MemMaid
Total Commander
GPSdash2
PocketUAE
TCPMP
Virtual Earth Mobile
Haven't touched the ROMs or anything else.
Cheers,

Hi dudes,
My problem seems similar to Obstler's issue in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35378&highlight=sound+problem
The problem: I can no longer hear any sound no matter what I do:
- clicking progs used to generate sounds. But no more...
- playing sound files just gives me silence
- a phone call generates a vibration as usual, but no more sound
- and when I pick up, I cannot hear the caller's voice
I tried:
- switching on/off bluetooth and speakerhone
- fiddling around with sound settings
- ending all active programs
Nothing seems to help.
My QTEK 9100 is one month old, has EXTrom 1.6.7.101 and is pretty much default (except for one lousy mahjongg game, but this one isn't the cause as it's been on for 2 weeks now.)
What I haven't tried yet; a soft reset. (I lack the doc here at the office but I think I need to do an ActiveSync at home first before resetting as I might lose some data right?)
Anyone had this? Anyone know what to do?
I'm quite new to PDA so I admit I wouldn't even know how to upgrade the bloody thing.
Had the same problem..
Try using your headphone plug, and plug it in several times(not to rough)
Sometimes the connection stays stuck in headphone....
It worked for me!!

Strange... I never used that headphone. up to now.
Will try at home tonight. Thanks!
Found it! Switched on bluetooth.
Clicked the "connect" button on my Jabra headset. Et voila!
My phone/display freezes on occasion whenever I've missed or ignored a call. Also freezes at times when I answer calls with the pickup key. Just recently, I couldn't open a missed call notification using the soft key. Please help!
I'm using a K-Jam flashed 8125.
I'm tired of soft resets!!
(sorry for double post...originally posted in wrong forum)
I ocasionaly have this (also on my old Himalaya) but always when the device volume is set to 'off'.
Still puzzles me
I have a Sprint PPC 6700. I installed SPB Pocket Plus to to the miniSD card and had the problems you describe. I uninstalled and reinstalled to the device and the problems stopped.
Hi everybody,
I have this one problem. After 2 days of usage, my Hermes suddenly went mute. No vibration or screen click can be heard even If I changed it to the loudest. I missed a lot of calls and sms due to this problem. The only way to solve this problem that I employ is by soft-reset my device.
I really hope somebody can help me tracking to root-cause of this problem and in the same time providing or proposing a solution to it.
Kindly help. Regards

did you unmute it from the speaker icon ?
if you have a backup restore it if not do a hard reset just make sure you backup your contacts/ stuff first
Phone goes mute
I think I'm having that problem too. Just out of the blue it happened. Didn't install anything extra the whole week. But when someone calls it rings, and if it's missed, it doens't play the miss call tone... or any other sound in that case.

Hi,
I noticed that the problem started to happen when I long-press the "Green" Button to activate the speakerphone during a call instead of pressing the "Speaker On" menu on the screen.
I've no idea why but maybe that could be the problem. Presently, I have to press that "Speaker On" on-screen menu to activate the speakerphone to avoid this problem.
Maybe other users can confirm this problem.

Got the same issue here and I don't use speakerphone
my pda´s auto mute so
No sound although speaker icon no in mute
I have the same problem. Out of the blue no sound is heard at all. I tried changing volume but it did not do any thing. Had to shut down (not soft reset) and restart device and it works fine. This happen several times and I can figure out why it does this.
If anyone can help...

Same here, I'm using a X01HT Softbank variant TYTN flashed with the latest HTC WWE rom and after about like 12 hours of use the device goes mute for some reason, making calls it works perfectly but playing sounds or ringers the speaker does not work. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of maybe re flashing the device since most of my information is on my storage card. I'll see if that fixes the problem :-\.
same problem here....
Same here. Only a reboot fixes it.
I have the same problem but it only happens when using the speaker phone. After the call ends, then there are no more system sounds etc. I then have to soft reset, which pisses me off as I use the speaker phone plenty in the car.
If i dont use the speakerphone, then there is no problem. Kind of strange....
Has anyone got any ideas on how to solve this?
I have same problem. I thought it was software related, but seems that it is caused by the speaker phone. I had the exact same problem with my old IPAQ 6515. It must be a software issue with WM although the 6515 had WM2003SE and the TYTN has WM5 so I do not know. Really annoying though as I use this phone for an alarm and it never goes off because the sound turns off sometime while I am sleeping - Uhggggg!
I also have the problem. Only a Softreset brings the speaker back to live.
my new problem...misery loves company
same here; curiously 2 pages into this thread and there are no real solutions.
I have solved the problem on my TyTN.
The Midlet Manager is the root cause for the Phone Mute issue on my device.
lol I just started getting this issue out of the blue after a couple of months and I didn't install anything :|
yeah nothing but a soft reset brings the sound back
Happens to me too. Strange coincidence - I've just checked my m3100 and it's giving me the silent treatment now. Time for another soft reset
I never use Midlets, so that rules the above theory out for me. However my battery was almost dead. I was using WiFi at the time, which turned itself off when the warning notifications popped up. Maybe when the battery drops below an acceptable level it turns the sound off to save power, but doesn't restore it after charging?
nope it happens to me even if my battery is fully charged
this used to happen on my i-mate PDA2k, and my JasJar (Universal) running both WM5, AKU3.2, 3.3, 3.5 and unfortunately even WM6 :S
Hi All,
After checking and testing the phone. I found out that the only way for me to solve the muting problem is by silencing the notification sound when a new email arrives. Since I have an unlimited EDGE/GPRS, my push mail is working around the clock. Thus, by not having the new email sound notify, the muting problem gone. This is caused by the notification event locking up the sound and not releasing it even after I read the mail. Previously the only way to resolve is by soft-reset but now, no more.
I have no idea whether this work or not for others but you might try and post your solution here.

I would like to have the same options as on my WM5 smartphone (MPX200).
I can make different profiles for different situations. IE: normal: normal ringtone etc. headset: low volume and auto answer after 4 seconds. Outside: louder volume.
The phone auto detected my headset (wired) and switch profile according.
I've seen different (free) programs to manage profiles for the PPC but none of them seen to be able to switch auto answer in the profile or switch profiles when the ppc "sees" my BT carkit etc.
Anyone found/uses a program to do the above??
phoneAlarm from PocketMax... an absolute must. Provides even more functionality than profiles. Even let's you schedule profile changes. Absolutely Brilliant.
http://pocketmax.net/
I second the use of PhoneAlarm as it enhances the WM5 Pocket PC so much. I specially like the ability to program missed calls and SMS repeats.
Regards
I don't like Phone Alarm. Use PocketZenPhone. Offers more possibilities regarding the profiles. Phone Alarm offers other features though, but in my opinion it's not well programmed.
Thanks guys!!
I'll give phonealarm a try first (downloaded the full trail version). Looks good so far, but uses a lot of memory just to change profiles. Not sure if I like the extra features that "invade" my today screen.
I post back my findings
You may also try PPCProfiles, which is an excellent freeware
I tried PhoneAlarm but gave me serious hangups with my TyTN and uninstalled it. I could not even use any TyTN keys after soft reset. I did a hard-reset and installed everything (except PA that is!) to get it back to normal.
Anyone had similar issues?
PS: I had installed it on main memory.
Thanks in advance

Removed from mine as well. I quite like it for a number of reasons but it is memory greedy and I aslo suffered hang-ups and freezing which in my case were borderline but not quite as serious as yours.
Have seen similar reports elsewhere.

In between testing Karmba and Schaps ROMs on my Trinity I realized that it was not ringing any more. Income calls get through, I can see the pop un in the screen but no audible ring. Music and every other audible notification is working fine.Last night I flashed back to Karmba a7.2 elias, and it started ringing, but this morning problem was there again. Any idea? Will be that soft or hard problem?
No ring
I have the same problem. I cannot get my phone to ring. I what WM6.1 and when you try and change the ring, it will revert back to "Ring-WindowsMob" and you can not exit the screen by hitting the "OK" button or the "OK" on the screen. Any help would be great.

I just have the same problem after a couple of moths using Faman 4.0 with no mayor issues, it stopped ringing, all other sounds or music are ok.
I had the same problem, because tha wma file format was associated to another player and not to the standard player...
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pmclean-v1-06.html
The Notification bug in Windows Mobile 2003 / WM 5.0 that causes slowdowns and alarm problems, i have resolved my problem with pmclean .

sorry for my bad english,i'm italian people
Happened on my Xperia
I lost the incoming rings and the ability to change ringtone when I associated wma files with mortplayer.
I unchecked it in mortplayers settings and now everything is fine again.
Thanks speederi.
guys, it might be a 3rd party software that causes the issue. Did you guys install any other softwares that relates to audio before the problem occurs?
Like myself, i installed SRS WOW (and might did something wrong to it) - sounds were ok but after i turn off the device and wake it up, sounds are gone - actually it still plays, but very2 soft and you can hardly hear (even if i set the vol on max).
Doing an uninstall doesn't help at all. Luckily i had backup (using SPB) before installation, so i just restore back those data and got everything working back as normal.
Maybe more info would help for the rest to troubleshoots?
