Unable to Map Windows Media Player Buttons

When I try to map functions of Windows Media Player it only allows me to map my UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, and ACTION buttons. I use these for Volume Up, down, next, previous, and play/pause, respectively. I want to map another button to toggle screen but when I try to assign the CONTACTS button for example- it goes to my contacts and doesn't assign.
Does everyone have this problem and if not any iideas on how to fix?
Thanks,
Daniel
ps- I like WMP and don't want to switch to another music program

In windows media player, go to: Menu > Options > Keys (or buttons?) (last tab) Here you can assign a hardware button to toggle the screen on/off during playback, when using this option al buttons will be available to raise/lower volume, next/previous song.
If you also want to block all keys you could use a program called DeviceLock and assign it to a hardware button:

You could try deltaLock http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/deltalock.shtml - it says PPC2003, but it may work on 2002... Assigning a hardware button (I use the notes button, as I never use notes) to this program, and it turns off the screen and locks the buttons until a preset button configuration is pressed

Apart from being able to use a key assigned by Media Player itself, I've found that you can just press the power button and the device turns off (acording to the KeyLock settings in Control Panel). I've even had this work when streaming music over GPRS - I just press the power button, and the music stops for less than a second, then continues playing. I think that you'll get prompted for your password after the timeout though. This I can't remember.

Thanks both for answer : I run today with a WM5 device...
With my old ppc2002 device, i was able to switch off the display with a harware button IN Windows Media Player, but the password screen was not displayed after a certain delay... With WM5, i can toggle off the display, but after a few minutes (according to the password settings) my device light on, and display the password screen... What i would like to know, is ther any soft to prevent the password screen to pop-up, because my device is not idle... like a soft named Disable Password On External Power... Except that it's not for the external power... only the "turn off" function of media player !
Sorry - I can't help with WM5, as I'm still on 2003SE...

Media Player continuing to stream when device is 'off'

Hi all,
I use the BT A2DP profile to stream music through the media player and one of the 'features' that differs from the K-JAM (wizard) and is lacking in the TyTN is the ability to continue that stream even when the device is 'off' (useful for saving battery, switching off the buttons, etc.). With the TyTN whenever the device is turned off the stream also ceases. Does anybody know if there is someway of ensuring that the media player is not switched off along with the device (I'm guessing a registry setting or similar).
All help very welcome.
Cheers
I was wondering this also. My wizard was able to be "off" and still stream. ANyone got any brigjt ideas?

Have you tried just turning the screen off? PocketPlus has a utility called "Screen Toggle," which does just that.
When used in conjunction with the Button Lock (leaving only the power button active), you just might be able to solve your issue...

Yeah...what he said!
That what I do.
I really miss this feature to.
So there is no way to do it on the Hermes?
Its not particulary elegent to have to perform multiple steps to turn the screen off. it was much eaiser just to hit the off button and listen away...
I'm using VjDeviceLock wich is what you want, I think.
After you've installed it you should create a new shortcut in c:/windows/startmenu/programs/vijay555/vjdevicelock. You can copy an exiting one in this directory and edit the parameter. What you want is "-displayoff". I bound this to my Videocall-Button, cause I don't use video telephony.
If I listen to music I just have to press my Videocall-Button and VjDeviceLock turns off my screen and locks all Buttons except the power on/off one.
Also VjDeviceLock is just great to save money
If you get a sms or a call the device turns on itself. I once didn't notice this and called a random person out of my adressbook, because I had my trion in my pocket and were moving all the evening and somehow started a call.
This cannot happen again, because I started vjdevicelock with parameter "-install". Now everytime my trion turns on itself it gets automatically (re)locked.
thats a fantastic solution and it works really well!
what program are you using to remap the buttons?
Hi,
Does anyone else suffers strange key problems when using VJdevicelock;
After using -displayoff or -displaytoggle and resume back to normal, phone buttons (call/disconnect,videotalk) doesnt work anymore, it need to be softreseted before the buttos work again?
-Kha
EDIT:
just found out that when resuming from -displayoff, after pressing windows and ok softkeys, dialbuttos work again!
I'd appreciate if somebody here could advice me on how to map VjDeviceLock to VideoCall button on my TyTN (I have original TyTN ROM and the VideoCall key is functional ). I couldn't remap it using Buttons configuration utility in Settings.
as I said you have to create a Shortcut in your Startmenu. Shortcuts in Startmenu are shown as available possibilities in Start - Settings - Buttons (Perhaps it's called a bit different. I'm using a german version where it's called 'Tasten')
This is how I remapped it. I don't use a special program.
I use the device lock on today plugins.

This does not turn off your screen AND your device is sometimes getting unlocked when you receive calls or sms.

Thank you very much for your instant response. I did all you mentioned in your message and I remapped the VideoCall button (is it the Button between Buttons 4 and 5 ? ) but pressing it still doesn't activate VJDevice. Any other suggestions?
Is the device locked when you click on the shortcut?
If not: edit an existing shortcut, let's say "VJDeviceLock About.lnk". Make it point to: \Programms\vjay555\VJDeviceLock\VJDeviceLock.exe" -displayoff
It is right that there is only one "
When I open my shortcut in a text editor the content is:
Code:
64#"\Programme\vijay555\VJDeviceLock\VJDeviceLock.exe" -displayoff"
Yes. The device locks when I click on the shortcut itself but when I press VideoCall button, to which I had previously mapped the link, the Dialpad pops up.

How can you do this? Are you using a third party app? I see no way to bind anything other than 5 buttons on my device...
I bound it to "Button 5".

Exactly...most media players have this function built in. If yours doesn't give MortPlayer a try. It's nice and has this feature built in. I don't like the default theme with MortPlayer as it's ugly so I just installed the MyPod theme and it looks great.
Just download the app here

You can get the skins from the zip archive here (go to the Old Skins link at the top)

Pocketmusic player problems

In my quest to find a music player I've finally ended up at pocketmusic player... the free versions works perfectly, but as soon as I try to install the bundle, it gives me a white screen when I start it up, the today plugin works perfectly, I need the budled version because of the functionality which lets the player continue playing even in sleep mode
somehow they tore that out of the free version :S
Also I keep getting a pop-up which wants me to choose the language, I can select the language fine, but there is no ok button or select or choose, all I can do is use a hardware button to exit the popup
anybody any ideas?
same problem here...
Go to Settings/Personal/Buttons and assign OK/Close to some button (like Main Menu hold)
use key when program prompts for language. That worked for me
what do i need to let the player sounding when i press the locking buttom (omnia 2)
