OK Im done laying out my magician - backup? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Ive been playing around with WAD and installed all kinds of good stuff. Can I back this up? So that, if I lose it through a hard-reset or something, can get it back without going through all hassle again?
Is there options?
Thanx
N

So you guys redo all layout in WAD if you make a hard reset?

Does anybody know how to remove these unwanted virtual buttons?
Amen to that, ive got one extra and two 4's lol
Strange even though I have buttons 2,3,4,4 they all work perfectly :?
Go to \hklm\software\microsoft\shell\keys
and clean out any spares.
I advise making a backup before and after, because reconstructing this data can be a pain in the bum. Frankly, export and backup your whole registry while you're there.

problem starting Hermes *** URGENT HELP needed

I've just tried to unhide my extended rom with help of 2 registry keys. now my device does not boot up. It stays on white blank screen.
What can I do ? (other than hard reset ?)
Is there a way to boot up without reading registry keys ?
is there a way to edit the registry of a not booted device ?
or any way to open device without reading registry ?
Well, I'm only a newbie myself, so I don't know if this will help. I unhid my own extrom yesterday with reg tweaks. There we more than two changes to make, mind you, including the addition of a dword value that didn't exist on my 8525. You don't offer what type of device you are using, so that might limit how much help you get here, btw.
Anyway, have you tried soft resetting by using the stylus in the hole at the bottom of the device? That MIGHT do something different and let you get into the system.
There is a safe mode that some 3rd party offers ... I think SPB PocketPlus...but that won't help if it's not already installed, and I'm not sure it would help in your circumstance.
Anyway...good luck. I hope this, or someone else's advice can help you.

pvs,
thank you. I had to hard reset. now I am trying to install everything back.
it will be hard...
Btw, I of course tried to soft reset with the stylus.
My device is I-Mate Jasjam (HTC Hermes)

What you didn't have a comprehensive back up!! Oh dear dear dear. That's a hard lesson I learned a while back. Now I could happily hard reset right now and be fully back up and running in say 10 minutes with SPB backup. A lesson for all.
Mike
in fact I am using SK tools for backup. but my backup was too old.
This is a new device and I installed a lot of software lately.
Well, look on the bright side, you have cleared out all the 'stuff' that builds up on a system after a lot of installing and uninstalling, and you're sure to build it better this time. It's just irritating that this kind of thing usually happens when you have no time.

just losing time.
I need a little help.
After a crash I hardresetted my Hermes and then used SK Tools to return to a backup point. But now when I try to activesync I get a message on my PC saying that the mobile device has already synced with another PC and it requests a new name for this PC.
I haven't synced with another PC. What shoukd I do ?

First x1 was killed !

Hi,
I got my black x1 on satyrday. started loading diferent programms to get other languages from paragon and some other , but nothng worked. then I was trying to change some registrs to unlock the extra rom. wich didnt work and after reboot it starts up with se and shows xperia and that was it.
so next day I went to shop and they without any questions give me new x1.
that was my first day with x1
strange but i think thats the problem with hacking around
strange is that hard reset didnt work
Wtf were you trying to unlock? what extra rom...
Hard reset just removes all of your settings, but you didnt screw with the settings, you screwed with the registry
the rom where are all the programms that installs after hard reset
I thouht that registrs are set to default too !?!?!?!?!

Lol! Be careful with the tweaking next time around... they might not be nice enough to replace it so easily again.

So tell me... (this going to be my first WinMo device) can we easily reset everything on the set or not - if needed? Like you re-install windows on a PC and stuff?

lmao actually im not sure, this is gonna be my first winmo phone actually.
But i guess you just messed up the recovery sector of that locked ROM ;p
youre lucky though. thats one advantage to buying phones from a retail store, just walk in and get a replacement no questions asked lol.
I'm also a n00b on WM but I think there is no a 'thing' as unlocking extra ROM in WM
Nah windows always has a protected area where people normally arent supposed to go into. I've also seen retail computers with whole locked off partitions where all of the original programs and settings are stored, waiting for the consumer to screw up and use that restoration disk.
strange. so many people able to buy X1. y is there not alot of X1 on ebay.com?
i really wanted this phone!
All of the X1s right now are out in sweden. Maybe ebay has a separate site for sweden like they do with china/hong kong.
Plus, who in the right mind would buy and sell such a wonderful device ;p
OK
The stick in se but is soft reset. I thoth its hard reset.
whot is realy hard reset combination?
Press power and soft reset together for at least 5 sec.

You will have to provide more detail as it depends on what you did. When you say you bricked it, what were you doing and what failed?
If you hard reset it, everything will be as it was when you first got it so your contacts and any other changes you made to the phone will be lost.

What changes were made that may have caused the problem?
You still be able to get around using the Start Menu, at least until the phone freezes as you say.
if the phone boots but tf3d just freezes, just go to start, settings, personal, today - items tab, scroll down the list, deselect tf3d - sync phone with pc (this backsup contacts - hard reset - sync to pc to restore your contacts.

nope no start menu! i tried to go in and delete OZ IM cuz it was extremely irratating me and i tried soft reset and it would only load to start screen
Hi clampi, what happens when you connect it to your PC? if you can still active sync you should be able to back up a lot of files and stuff if you need to hard reset, it doesn't sound like it is broken though, just messed up, you just have an unpleasant hill to climb. I have not gone through anything like this since I had an Artemis, when I learned to use SPB backup, free trial available, now whenever I do something which I think may potentially bugger up my phone, like digging holes in my registry, I use SPB backup first. Sometimes I just make a backup, hard reset and restore just for the hell of it, I think it can help smooth out/de-frag memory. Any way good luck sorting it out.

RTFM...
There are instructions in your owner's manual on how to do a hard reset. For the CDMA Diamond, it is Power, Vol Down, DPad Center, and reset. Might be different for TP.
Regardless, you are far from bricked.

yea i kno what im sayin! i was sayin thank you for telling me how n i was gonna do it after i restored my contacts!. and i kan get my TP to acticesync but when i try to save my contacts it says Outlook has not been installed! im on windows Vista
Install Outlook and try again. I think you can download it from Microsoft's website (at least as a trial).
Instructions are on page 126 of the manual for the Touch Pro.
Here's what it says;
To perform a hard reset:
With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume Down and Enter keys first, and then press and hold the Power key until you see the following message on the screen: <Warning Message>
Release the Volume Down, Enter, and Power keys, and then press the Volume Up key to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.

Crashing Jade

Hi
I've had my Jade since February - I love the phone and it's features.
I use spb mobile shell on it, and find it even better.
I just struggle with the crashes - at least every other day it freezes while I am using it. Only twice has it frozen while I'm not using it.
Do I need a hard reset? Should I look at upgrading to 6.5 with all these cooked ROMS.
What about the RUU from HTC???(RUU_Jade_HTC_WWE_2.32.405.3_Radio_Sign_12.41.30.16_0.41.30.12_Ship)
Any advice gratefully received - I daren't tell anyone my phone crashes - they all think it is the 'best phone on the planet' - so I can't say!!!!
Chris
Your phone should still be under warranty. I've had mine for over a year now. It has never frozen but I'd had some active sync problems earlier on. The nice people at HTC replaced the main board. Try sending it in for them to have a look over. Alternatively, uninstall spb mobile shell and see if it still crashes.
In order to flash the 6.5 rom, you'll need to do a hard spl and if you do that, the warranty becomes invalid. I'd send it in first and consider this option later. There's a great thread in rom development which teaches you how to upgrade to 6.5 step by step. Good luck.
Thanks Tropical Cactus - I'm not sure how easy it would be to live without it while it got serviced!
Perhaps I need to hard reset, and think carefully what I install?!?

You can try a hard-reset (data-loss!) and use it without installing anything for a few days. If it freezes no longer you can keep it. If it does again you should give it to service!

You can avoid data loss by backing up data into SD. I use SPB Backup. You can even choose what to backup. After hard reset, restore data. You can even restore your customised programs / applications.

That is a good idea, normally. In this special case it could be better to test a few days without restoring because we want to see if the handset in it's delivery status is OK or not. I mainly think for programs not to be restored.
