Req: O2 media skin - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

HI Guys, had a problem when I hard-rebooted my Atom. Lost my O2media skin.Gets error message ... corrupted. Hard booting is supposed to restore all settings to default.Any body has the same problem. I would appreciate if somebody would upload the skin. Thanks.
Cheers

burn the ROM again

Hi Kropotov, thanks again for helping me out.You mean upload the new ROM again? I'm not so sure if I want to go that way-- is this the only way to get back the skin?
Cheers,

no. try this:

Like clockwork, Kropotov makes my day . Where do I put these files?
Thanks and Double cheers

put this files in:
/hidden partition/MediaCenterSkin/

Thanks Kropotov. Tried Activesync and Card Export to transfer the files to hidden storage/ mediacenterskin but keeps getting error message " Error moving file. Disk is write-protected.Remove write protection or use another disk." I'm stumped-- don't know what to do next.
Cheers

try to change file atributes (uncheck box "Lock file"), that you can copy, or copy rar archive to hidden partitionand extract files directly there.

Thanks. I'll try it and post result.
Cheers,

Sorry but it did not worked. I was able to copy the files to hidden storage/mediacenter skin but during the file transfer, i keep getting error message ".... memory not enough.." After I soft-resetted, I checked the hidden storage/Mediacenter skin folder but no files were there. Also there was no more space in the HMemory whereas before, I used to have 8.5 Mb free.

ok. make backup using SPB backup. burn ROM again. restore.

ok. make backup using SPB backup. burn ROM again. restore.

Thanks Kropotov. Think that's the only way. BTW, is SPB Backup better than Sprite Backup?
Cheers

frankly speacing, i don't know. I use as patriot SPB

Hi Kropotov, I went to the seeo2 site to download the rom. Having gone through the upgrading steps, i came across an instruction to " Steps:
5. Verify you have the CE Image version 4260611 and Radio Image version R060428N_MN1ARC_RS00049 described as follows.
I already have the new rom version 20060426B1WWE installed on my Atom. Is it still safe to re-load the ROM? Have you done this before with no problem? Thanks for you usual advise.
cheers, :?

wizard327
yes, I did. Rom version doesn't play the role. You can burn same version or oreviouse.

Thanks for your usual quick response. I need help in upgrade since this will be the first time i will be doing this and I don't want to spoil my Atom. Shall I follow the instructions given at the seeO2 site or do you have any special instructions.I read that the safe way is to enable the bootloader mode first and this icontradicts the seeo2 instruction.Shall apprciate if you could show me the way via bootloader mode. Thanks for your patience.
cheers

forgot about bootloader mode. just download ROM from O2 site, connect to PC, run installer & follow the instruction. (of course, you must have Active Sync installed on your PC)
P.S. Charge Atom before burning.

Thanks. One more question. Shall I retain partnership with activesync or establish partnership as guest?
cheers

Do not use the serial number provided, you have to write down the serial no. (3 choices) that appears after you follow steps 1, 2 & 3 below.
1.) Copy/backup original \Windows\bkpmgr.cpl to other place (sd card, extended ROM, etc)
2.) Replace original \Windows\bkpmgr.cpl with cracked bkpmgr.cpl (attached file)
3.) Run BackupManager You will see the pop-up window with original serial code such as "11 22 33 44 55 66 77 88". If not seen click"Registration" button then "Register" and you will see 3 registration key for your DeviceID. Write down your registration information for the future references.
4.)Close program
5.) Copy back original bkpmgr.cpl to \Windows\ (Replace crack bkpmgr.cpl)
6.) Run BackupManager(again) then type the registration key (serial no.) you write down, any of the 3 will do.
The Sunny backup & restore works perfectly. I use it everytime to restore my previously installed apps after a hard reset. I normally choose the "create exe file" & restore the exe file after hard reset EVEN WITHOUT INSTALLING THE SUNNYSOFT BACKUP MANAGER FIRST. During restore of exe file WM2k5 will post errors but reply yes, yes and click exe file once again to restore back your files.
That's it. Goodluck!

Please keep in mind that this can be illegal in your country!
Always check the laws in your country before using this.
that it work??
i was using the 3.3 build 04062 and its not working.. is this the latest version build? or this one?==>> 04062??
Yeah.. can anyone confirm this... oh well.. instead of waiting why no trying it.. ill try..

I have tried Sunny backup but it don't work completely. In fact the program doesn't succeed in restoring the contacts. Me from the it confirms of this or to you it works in complete way?
Ok i got the version.. its 3.30 Build 03141 do you think this will work? to transfer databases of 2003se to 2005?
Also I would appreciate to know if with Sunny backup is possible to restore the database of the device (contacts, calendar, tasks) on WM2005. Thanks.
Thanks
note!
guys this doesnt work on wm2005.
only works for ppc2002/wm2003/wm2003se. ive tested the two version 3.3 but different build. but still have no luck on working for wm2005.
Yes it works
Did a hard reset yesterday for testing when reverting to version H. It works, but the stored .exe file removes itself after restore. So you need to backup soon after that.
Victor
this doesnt work for wm2005 to wm2005...
what i mean was is u backup your contacts from wm2005 and hardreset.. then u restore it using backupsunnysoft it wont work..

Please Help!

Yeah, guess I'm one of those losers that had tried to install another ROM Version onto their XDA mini, and forgot to make an backup image.
But: I downloaded the dumped o2 xda mini image from the ftp server, had ntrw put it on my sd card and tried to put it back on my xda mini.
Now here's the tricky part:
1. Everytime I use ntrw it tells me right after it has finished writing the O2_GER_1.12.01.nb1 file to the card that theres a wrong parameter.
Exact output:
"WriteFile(): O2_GER_1.12.01.nb1 -- Falscher Parameter."
And 2. When I put the memory card in my xda and do the monkey-grip (you know, camera+on+reset) it gets into the bootloader (Serial and V1.02) and a bit later it changes to
"SD Download
=========
Section =1
not allow
update!"
Has anybode a clue what that means and how I'm going to get my old o2 rom image back?
Thanks very much in advanced.
Regarding your questions:
1) Ignore the parameter is incorrect error. That's normal.
2) You're having the Update Not Allow error because the header of the ROM you are trying to install is not coming from your own Magician. You need to copy the first 416bytes from your existing ROM (using hex editor) and copy it over the first 416bytes of the new ROM.
Hope this helps!
Nevermind what I wrote.
It worked like a charm! Thank very very much! You are my personal hero today
I had tried some other tip with hex editing last night, but it didn't work.
The tip said to copy just the first 220bytes - and not 416bytes.
Man, I'm so happy. First thing I'm gonna do: make a backup of my working O2 ROM now.
Thanks again!

GPRS Monitor

I cannot install GPRS Monitor from myO2 CD, it says i need to update my ROM, i did a corporate install btw
Anyone else had any probs?
Another forum member had this same problem when installing the ClearVuePDF Reader also supplied by o2 as part of the HTC application suite. He has the MDA, but flashed with the o2 Exec ROMs and then installed in Corporate mode.
From work we did together, it appears to be just the install program that was not validating his device. When I tried a hard-reset and Corporate mode install, I had no problems installing. However, its beginning to look as though a hard-reset does not totally clear the Exec's memory. In his case, I found all the individual files and registry settings needed for ClearVuePDF to run and he copied those to the device. Runs perfectly for him like that.
So I'm afraid you'll have to find somebody with the o2 version of GPSMonitor installed and get them to determine all the files/locations and registry-settings needed to get it to run. Unfortunately I don't have a GPRS connection or GPRSMonitor installed.
Just a thought. Have you yet tried a full o2 Personal mode install on your device? It just might be this action that puts 'something' in memory that is not cleared by a hard-reset, and that 'something' might be what the install program is looking for.
Sorry that I can't be more helpful.
No problem thanks for your help

I did a basic install and I get the same error. Sorry, Not much help though.
Daz
Me too. The ClearVuew PDF reader is rubbish! Text misalighed all over - Adobe with pixel doubling is better than this.
Please try this
Could one of you having a problem to install the o2 supplied GPRSMonitor, please try installing the attached .CAB after copying it to your device.
This CAB is extracted from the CD-ROM install program, so hopefully skips the validation stuff. With luck you might be able to get around the failed validation by installing from this CAB.
Note: Even if asked to install to Storage Card, the o2 supplied version (2.3.0 build 600) puts very little there, most goes into device memory. The current version 2.41 from spb will obey the instruction to install to SD-Card, but wasn't reliable when run from there - the monitoring part aborted four times in 10-minutes whilst I was playing with it.
Unfortunately, since I don't have the install problem, I can't test this install out.
It works a treat. Thanks muchly!

Am I glad about that - I was in the midst of trying to locate all the files/registry entries needed for a manual install.
Perhaps I can go to bed now!
I also managed to 'locate' another copy and it works fine, thanks for all the help.

I can confirm this but with other files. After several hard resets (even with the clear storage icon), the pictures I had taken were still there.

Ouch! I didn't realsie it was as bad as that.
The situation is made worse by the backup program I'm using (Sunnysoft Backup Manager) not backing up all the data and settings. Neither does it perform a true restore - just merges the backup with what's there after the hard-reset.
Unfortunately, I'm used to HP's backup applet from the Jornada 928; which performed a total backup/flush restore. Are there any other applets for WM5/universal that really performs a full backup/restore?
Does anyone have this cab please? I have just bought a new O2 exec and am having the same problem with it saying my ROM version is too old!!
sorry ignore that post! Work computer blocked the file out
I am running my XDA EXEC in basic mode. When I tried copying the .cab file to my device and running it from there , still get the problem.
Any suggestions ?
I was running personal mode then switched to basic mode, could this cause the problem.
Thanks for you replies in advance.
Cannot remove GPRS monotr app
I installed this file to test it out om M3000. Unfortuntely I cannot seem to uninstall it now! It doesnt show up in my Program list - How do you uninstall it?
I looked in the \\windows folder and removed all files and shoretcuts I could find, but its still showing up on my 'today' screen with an error.
Any ideas? The registry?
Cheers

Linuxgeek:
I was also getting the ROM version problem installing programs to my SD card on my O2 exec. Since I'd only just added the card and was running the basic installation, I did the following:
1) Hard reset
2) Personal Install
3) Re-install ActiveSync on PC
This did the trick. Thankfully I like the Personal install best anyway, but I don't know if that step was necessary.
Tried it. Still get the problem :-(
My mistake - I managed to install the Clearvue PDF program, not the GPRS monitor program. I'm still getting the ROM version error with the GPRS monitor program, but I've not tried the above download yet.
Anyone got any other ideas to fix this problem.
Shame O2 don't have an update to fix this problem on their website.
I've now tried the CAB posted above by astage and I can confirm it worked for me. Just copy the CAB to your device and then open it to start the install.

Any advice for a Newb

I have read all of the Wiki's and quite a few other postings and will try my first flash when i get home. Does anyone have any advice for me before i try anything? I just got the Wing and it is my 1st PDA and I am very excited to start customizing it but i dont want to trash or as i've heard "brick" the thing so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
flashing a new ROM is actually wwwwaaay easier then the threads teaching you make it seems.
advice is... flash to a custom ROM.
decide what you want your phone to be able to do. compare the different ROMs before you flash. collect and organize cabs etc for the programs you will want to install after flashing. then go for it!!
Thanks for the response. How do io even start to flash do i need special sodtware on my PC. and what is SPL? i read i need 4.0 or higher or i will brick my phone. when i say i am a newb i mean complete newb. i dont even know where to start to install the files or anything.
to check your SPL, perform a soft reset while pressing the camera button. You should see a three colored screen with the words IPL and SPL and whatever. If SPL is over 4, then you can use USPL (temporary unlock) or HardSPL (permanent unlock). Note that in this case unlock means the removal of a block that forbids the flashing of custom roms. This is called a CID unlock.
SPL = Secondary Program Loader
similar to the BIOS in a pc..tells the device to load windows, etc
Hard-SPL = is a "permanent" change/upgrade..in this our case it changes your SPL to "yang4.7" or something like that
Herald-USPL = temporary upgrade to HTC Herald SPL 5+
thanks MV3 for the deffinitions and explanation it really helped alot. where can i find some .cab files at.
not like i wanted.
well things did not go like i wanted because i couldn't even backup my damn contacts because the stupid activesync wont back them up. getting tired so i will try this again tomorrow.
download and install HTC Backup
or PIM Backup..cuz they are freeware hehe
connect to your usb and transfer/install on your device. then you can run the program and backup or restore your contacts, messages, notes, calendar, etc.
if you have a data / internet package..you should be able to download through your phone....if that's not working.. you can download it to your computer..then email it to yourself... but really, via usb is much faster/easier.
cool can i active sync the files i need with this software to or no. and how exactly do i active sync a .cab or flash or anything for that matter.
well... synchronizing with active sync kinda sucks... and is rather annoying
it just synchronizes windows outlook, outlook/ms contacts, and other ms stuff.
if the file is a pc installation/setup file.. you need to connect your phone via usb.. then run the file on your computer and it installs it to your phone... your phone will ask where you want to install it.
if it's a .cab file, transfer it to your phone... then search for where you put it and run the .cab file.
to transfer files between your pc and your phone... on your pc's activesync... click "Explore"... or just open my computer/windows explorer.. and open Mobile Device..or whatever your computer named it.
to flash.. the instructions are usually on that ROM's page..
ok i got it. so i dont necessarily need to install it to a specific folder, just somewhere i will remember.
correct

FYI: There is a way around this. When you execute the .exe file it does establish a .cab file in the folder on your PC for ActiveSync to use to install it on your Phone. So, what I have done in the past is go to the folder on my PC, find the .cab file and then transfer that .cab file to my SD Card and then install the .cab file on your phone. Search for where you put it on your Phone SD card and run the .cab file. It does work as I have done it many times. Then continue as stated below.
ok I will try it that way too thanks guys for all your advice. all I,ve done so far is a game and some themes.but I want to get my wing running faster so what should I install. and how can I run a app and still listen to wmedia at the same time?

i don't see the point in that... unless you want to save the .cab file to your storage card...but if that's your point, then "i see..."

To make it faster, you have to kill a lot of the junk that's in it from starting up, or you can use any third party ROM.
Hello fellow newbie..
Beleive me i feel u and all these questions ur asking, i was in the same boat and for the most part still am about certain things...i to wanted my device (wing) to run faster and EVERYONE advised me to flash a 3rd party rom (ttran biggy 3.0 is awesome) heres the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365607
not only is it fast and slick lookin but it gets rid of all that 'stuff' u dont need and frees up ALOT of memeory so u can still add stuff (cabs/programs) u want...he even provides instructions and 'how-tos' on the thread just follow exactly using USPL instructions when flashing...if u are in need of cabs go to the 'Herald' section or click here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=348) its the same device and concepts as the Wing, ull find everythin u need here

There are many people who cannot connect with ActiveSync. I had trouble with it for months. So, that is another way of installing an application without using ActiveSync. This is also used as you said, to save the Cab file on your SD card.
Thanks Ivan i have read your "how to flash" thead alot of your other postings bro so i know you have this thing down pack and appreciate the advice.
Thank you too timace any dod and dont's advice you have feel free to Pm me or post it. I just dont want to brick my phone.
yesterday i loaded some themes and a game and some of my ringtones that i had made from my old nextel and now i feel brave enough to flash the rom.

Device backup sw

Hi,
My worst fears are realised on Monday. I receive a replacement handset as mine is faulty. Problem is my life is on my existing device. Sad but true!
Is there any sw available that will do a complete backup of the device including registry and so on? The bulk of my files are on SD so it is not too bad. I just want to be sure I don't miss anything.
Cheers.
I use Sprite Backup
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
Before I go and buy it does this also do the registry and phone settings etc?
Don't know about Sprite but SPB Backup will do what you want.

yep it does, there's a 10 days free trial available on their website.
Thanks guys. Went for SPB as it was the cheaper option.
I assume all you need to do to restore is run the exe from your PC with the device connected to the PC with active sync?

Not quite. Once you have backed up your device I guess you will have to transfer that, and any other important data, to your PC.
The SPB Backup file is a self extracting one. All you need to do when you get your new device back is transfer the backup file onto your SD card, find it using Explorer, tap on it, tick whatever options you want installed and away you go.
WB
PS Make 2 copies of this backup file on different locations, perhaps one onto your PC, the other onto a memory stick, to ensure that you don't lose or damage the only copy you may have!
Thanks again. Running it the logs says the file is too big for a self extracting file. It then creates both a backup file and a restore file.
Would you happen to know what the difference is here? Do I need to run them both or will the exe source the restore file? Both the files are exe.
Hmmm, not come across that message in all the years I have been using SPB Backup.
What I would do is run the backup session again on the device while paying attention to the size of file it is about to create (work through the screens slowly and you will see what I am talking about).
Once the backup is finished see see if the file is roughly the same size as what it said it was just before the backup began. If it is then you are probably ok and you can use that backup file as a restore file when needed.
Hope this helps.
WB
