#1 - I purchased my wizard the first hour it was out on Tmobile. That first day I had a problem connecting to wifi and the Tmobile rep told me that my unit was defective. I told him that I was sure it was a settings problem and he told me that I couldn't receive any more tech support until I got a new one. Sure enough, my new one had the same problem since it was a settings problem.
#2 - I would have to realign the screen several times a day.
#3 - For some reason, Tmobile could not obtain an sim unlock code so they offered to replace it. I had been in a car accident where my wizard went flying over 30 feet but still worked fine. Due to the scratches, I decided to take them up on the offer instead of using lokiwiz.
#4 - To hear out of the headphones, I have to constantly press on the jack to make a good connection. I tried several different headphones all with the same result.
#5 - This unit is on its way to me. I hope I can keep this one longer than a month.
I've been very careful with my Wizards. I've never dropped one (except the wreck, and it still worked fine). Am I just unlucky or is this somewhat common?
Jeez man, feel sorry for you. Would have been going spare by now. Touch wood my first is fine and dandy.

Ok so my Cingular 8525 is basically unusable due to the touchscreen thinking it's getting taps in the upper right corner (upper left in landscape mode). This has the nice effect of closing programs down to the today screen in portrait mode or constantly popping up the start menu in landscape mode (about three times a second). Any ideas?
I tried soft resetting and also removing the battery for several minutes. Haven't tried a hard reset as I don't want to go through that except for a last resort. Tried wiping the screen with a soft cloth. There are no weird programs on the device except what everyone here uses.
I still have 5 days before the end of my 30 days return period with Cingular. If I bring it back will they just give me another one?

on your touchscreen problem.. i have seen this occur by someone improperly putting on a screen protector or maybe there is some dirt up there.. and if you take it back to the store they may give you a new one or make you call the warranty by mail line and get a replacement that way
..... or your OK button could be stuck down
I took a bottle of lens cleaner from my camera bag and thoroughly cleaned the screen. I ran my fingernails under the edge of the screen and really made sure no dirt was under there. Lo and behold, it seems to be working fine now. I browsed some RSS headlines for about 10 minutes with no problems.
Weird though, I have used an Ipaq 4705 WM5 pocket pc for two years now and really ran it through the ringer. It looks like it's been to war and back (which it has in a since) and never experienced errant screen taps. Oh well, still enjoying the 8525 (last phone was 2125).
Thanks so much!

Just a note of caution!!! This is related to the screen alignment issue i.e. the touch sensitive area of the screen continuing beneath the bezel and causing unwanted touches whether through dust or the sticky gasket in there.
May not return, or will be cured again by the "business card" fix / or as you did a firm clean to release the screen from touching the bezel.
But, it's a question for you, if you only have 5 days left under warranty. Most people with the SA problem find the first signs appear in the first couple of weeks. I would certainly put it through it's paces, open up a few applications leave wifi on so it heats up, surf web over wifi etc etc as the added bit of heat generated internally was a known factor in exacerbating the problem. If all stays well over next couple of days maybe it'll be OK.
Would be good to get urgent feedback from anyone with a newer Hermes who's had this issue and what happened.
Mike
Argh, it's back. OK, I'm certain it's a touchscreen problem and not a button sticking as holding down OK will not cause the start menu to pop up while an application is up and holding the windows key will not close an app. Also the problem is delayed if I hold the stylus down on the screen. It's just the upper right (portrait mode) of the screen that is getting the errant screen tap (about three or four times a second).
I've ran a business card through the edges and it doesn't help. I'm not going to take this thing apart. I did that several times with the 2125 to fix unresponsive keys and joystick but the problems always reappear. My one year old 2125 is barely functional now. My g/f would rather keep her crap LG flip phone then inhieret the 2125 after watching me battle it. That's pretty sad.
I'm going to try a hard reset (second one in three weeks) and if that doesn't help I'm returning it to Cingular and getting my money back. Then I'll either buy another one or a blackjack. I like the 3g and love this device. It's my third Windows Mobile 5.0 product. I don't like the sub-par build quality on my second HTC product now. I paid $599 plus tax for this phone at a local Cingular store (despite the web store saying $550).
My advice for what it's worth is take it back. This screen business has a habit of coming and going and it's entirely possible you hard reset and everything is fine and two weeks later it's back. Also would be better to return with the issue present (not that they wouldn't believe you -would they?)
On the whole though this problem is much more rare than it was, so if you do get the same device again hopefully you will be luckier. If you get directly from shop though check the firmness of the key board clicking into place that seems to still be fairly common problem.
Not the best start to the new year!!
Mike
Well I got desperate and hard reset... I could barely get past the screen alignment startup so needless to say that didn't fix things. Having gone this far and thoroughly pissed at having to reinstall everything I decided to loosen those screws on the back and run a card around the edges.
So far, it's working! I'm not content settling on this hack though so I'm bringing it back Tuesday and will update on my experience at the retail store (not looking forward to that).
Happy new year and thanks for all the super fast responses guys!

I was browsing the www the other day and saw a korean/ japanese site showing the inside of these precious devices, and (as pointed out above) how the seal/ gasket underneath the bezel is the root cause of our anguish.
There were some detailed pics of how you can DIY, and remove the gasket, but it's no where near me basic level of competency.
Why would they design a touch-screen to big for the device I wonder???
there is also the business card trick about sliding it underneath the edges to loosen the gasket... there is a whole thread on this screen alignment issue
what site shows how to fix the gasket?
There is a post about someone seeing a site showing how to fix the gasket proplem on the touch screen. Could I please get the URL??

Just got back in from my local Cingular store and actually had a pleasant, hassle-free experience exchanging my 8525 for a brand new one. I explained to the CSR the issue and she immediately understood the problem (must not be the first guy walking in there about this).
Unfortunately, she didn't have any in stock but merrily called around and found six others in stock at nearby stores. So off I went to the next store and had the old 8525 exchanged for a new one in less then ten minutes. The CSR didn't even bother to look at the old phone or check the accessories I returned with it.
The new 8525 is syncing up as I write this and immediately I notice some things are different. First of all, written on the side of the box is 12/26. So we know this phone is probably brand new. The keyboard does indeed click in and out more firmly then my old one. The USB cable plugs in tighter (a good thing, I was always getting USB connection problems), and lo and behold Windows Vista installed HTC sync drivers then Media Player automatically recognized the device (never did any of that on the old one).
I'm using the Windows Mobile Device Center Beta on Vista RTM and it just finished syncing without any problems. Moral of this story is if your 8525 is experiencing any problems at all and you are within 30 days, return it for a hassle free refund.
Good news and you're absolutely right about getting it back within warranty if there's a fault.
Great stuff!

Cingular 8525 touch screen no working
I am having a problem with the touch screen on my 8525. My phone was working fine then the then the screen stopped responding. I was able to navigate via keyboard but that was it. I did a soft reset and it did not help. I then did a hard reset and the screen went to the setup and wants to align the screen which obviously I cannot do.
The changes I have made the same day prior to it not working are as follows:
-Unlocked with Hermes SIM Unlock
-Installed latest Cingular ROM
-Installed fit4cat Hermes Tweaker v1.1a
The phone worked fine for about 12 hrs before the touch screen stopped working.
Any suggestions?
Hey there, I have had the problem before (about 3.5 weeks ago). I had to send it in for service (since I am not a Cingular customer anymore but use the 8525 with T-mobile).Good luck.

I bought my original 8525 in December, and it worked fine until two weeks ago when I started to get the white screen of death. I called AT&T and they overnighted another phone. I don't know if it's a refurb or new, but it came with just the phone and no accessories. I'm thinking refurb.
Got the new phone (and sims card) on 7/2, and loaded Majik, and a couple of days later, started having the phone quit any program I was using and going back to the start page. I was out of town, and it was a PITA. Got back into town and re-flashed just see if it helped, and the same problem started again soon after.
Called again, and got another phone today. I decided to keep this one stock and see what happens...10 hours later, the new phone starts the same problem.
Others seem to have the same problem, and it may be caused by pressure on the touch screen from too much torque on the screws underneathe the screen. With use generating heat, expansion causes the touchscreen to close out all programs like hitting the X button.
Thoughts? What's the next best phone similar in function and size to the Hermes?
Wait another month or so for the Kaiser. Much better specs and a bit thinner.
I contacted HTC America about the problems with my phones, and here's part of their reply...
"There is no such known issue with the device however, this issue can also be due to a glitch in the software and performing a master reset and go through all of the set up prompts once it boots up should solves the problem."
I find it hard to beleive that no one else has contacted HTC about screens fading to white and touchscreens failing.
I really like the Orbit 2, its a great device BUT within weeks of getting mine, the rubber wheel fell off and it went back for a replacement.
It's happened again with my second one and so it's off for replacement again - I'm only a couple of months in to my contract and already I'm getting my third device!
How's it been working out for everyone else who owns an Orbit2? Any major issues? How's everyone feel about the device?
Is anyone fed up enough with it that they are looking to change?...possibly to the Diamond (which I have been considering). I had no issues with my original Orbit which I also loved but if this one keeps playing up then I'm gonna have to look in to canceling my contract and possibly getting a HTC Diamond - has anyone any thoughts on the Diamond as an alternative to the Polaris/orbit2?
Cheers!
Edit: Just realised I've posted this in the 'upgradeing' sub-forum rather than the Polaris forum, apologies for that! maybe a mod could move it if needs be? ta!
The wheel fell off mine too.
Least they replaced it and the new one is going well
I'm hoping this doesnt happen to mine, I'm not on contract with O2 and bought the phone off steelbay. Is there no way you can re-attach it yourself with locktite ?
Nogs
i have O2 OrbitII for more than a month and no problem at all
i bought it from eBay too
nogs - there's a load of other threads about this rubber wheel problem, its quite a big issue but I think others have managed to stick it back on somehow (as long as it hasn't been lost!)
I tried superglueing one of mine and screwed up the rubber!
I'm on my fifth Orbit 2 since April. The rubber wheel fell of three of them and the data connection of the usb socket failed on the fourth.
O2 suggested another handset, but there's nothing really suitable, it's a real shame as the phone is great when it's in one piece.
That's mad! to be fair though, it's cool of O2 to keep sorting it out for you and for and it's reasuring that they offered a different handset. I see what you mean though, there's not much else to choose from at the mo when it comes to O2!
My thrid one has just arrived, so far so good I'll see how it goes. They are great phones aside from these issues.
I'm using my Orbit for over 6 weeks now and I'm very happy with it. Never had any probs with the wheel or anything else and hopefully I wont considering I've voided the warranty by unlocking the phone, installing new radio and new rom on it.
I use my Orbit heavily as an mp3 player and the only minor issue I encountered was with the mini usb connector when I plug in the wired headset or an adapter for headphones. 2 weeks ago one of the earphones on the wired headset even stopped working bc of the connector. (its the headset not the phone) I wish HTC would have integrated a TRS connector..
*And yes I want to change it bc I don't have video acceleration, accelerometer built in and VGA screen but I won't do this until HTC Android is out or if it takes ages until they'll release it I'll go for whatever will be available in spring/summer 2009. So far the device does everything I need and I'm very happy with all the other functions.
I have O2 orbit2 now 3month.. ring is no problem but camera button is too bad..
it makes feel hard to press button.. how about you?
yup, camera button is very hard to press
i thought that there's some dirt underneath, but it's not
it's just hard button ...
luckily i don't use it that often
Thought I'd update this for the hell of it. I'm now on my 4th Polaris - good times!
I'm on my fourth too, gonna be sending this one back aswell!! 3 wheels and a failure! The wheel fell off this one in 4 days!
Think I will superglue it on next time!!
On the upside I did get 3 complete box sets with all the accessories!

Me to!!!
I've a big pile of accesories and no idea what to do wit them, including 3 spare car kits and a battery I kept.
is it just me or does it seem like only the orbit jas the issue with the ring falling out? does anybody have a touch cruise that the button has fell out off?
I've got an Orbit 2 and it's just started falling apart. First the screen became separated. I think it's the digitizer as it still works, but i can see liquid in between the layers.
Then a week later the rubber ring fell off.
Not sure what to do as I bought it on eBay... Any suggestions?
I love this phone and would like to get it replaced...
Might be worth calling the manufacturer to see if it's still covered by a warranty then if it is you should be able to get it repaired or replaced. Failing that, you may have to cut your losses and put it back on EBay or pay for it to be repaired.
First, let me say “hi” and “thank you” for this awesome forum. It has helped me numerous times including new ROMs, upgrading radios, and hopefully now my latest problem. I hate posting in forums because usually someone has asked the question before and someone has answered it, so I am a HUGE fan of the search feature.
Recently, my 4yo was playing with my ATT 8525, he loves the games (he has a DS, so I don’t know what the fascination with my phone is), but when I went to use it later, the D-Pad wasn’t working, so I thought he might have dropped it (no big deal). The phone still worked. I would fix the pad later. I made and received several calls, but eventually I got the infamous white screen. I came to the forum, found my fix for both the D-Pad and the white screen. I disassembled, fixed the issue, reassembled, and booted it up. The D-Pad worked, no white screen, GREAT!
Now my latest issue, after re-assembly, I can’t get reception at all outside. Inside is fine, outside is non-existent. I upgraded my radio to 1.56.70.11, but it didn’t get any better. No worse, but not better.
I attempted pyraxiat’s fix, but I have had no luck. Would a hard reset fix this? I don’t know how a MoBo would go bad just seconds after I put it back together, I’m pretty computer savvy, so the disassembly was not an issue.
I picked this one up off of fleabay, so I really don’t want to send it off and pay more for a MoBo than I paid for the phone. I would just upgrade to a Tilt if that was the issue.
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Hello friends,
I have a i9500 which is exactly 2 years old and - with this age - ran out of warranty here in Thailand already.
A while ago, from one day to another, my Bluetooth reception dropped dramatically. It was not a slow process of decreasing reception. It was one day ok and the next day very bad.
Usually, you have a range of let's say 5 to 6 meters when you connect to a (in my case) Bluetooth headset. Suddenly, the range dropped to 30 centimeter! Then I realized that the WiFi range also decreased.
So, what to do? First, I changed ROMs, but nothing helped. I did factory reset, wiping, and so on. Nothing helped. I checked the internet and didn't really find answers. One blog talked about faulty Bluetooth chips. So, I went to the Samsung service center. But they only wanted to replace the motherboard which should have cost me around 5300Thai baht, which is around 150Euro or 175USD. Regarding the age of the phone, that was a no go.
So I started to check for a new phone. But somehow, I didn't want to accept that I don't have a choice. Besides that I am on a tight budget, I wanted to find out what is really the reason for this.
Suddenly I ran into a blog which showed some components of the S4 and that the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antenna(s) are packed under a flap after you remove the back cover. It says something about cleaning the antenna under the flap as a last resort. So....I thought... Bluetooth, Wi-Fi. Sounds like my problem. As I don't have the according tools and skills, I took the phone to a small phone shop. First, the guy didn't want to believe that I ask him to clean the antennas, but he agreed though.
I came back 40 minutes later and we checked everything together.
Result: PROBLEM SOLVED
Back at home I made more tests with my Wi-Fi reception and the range of Bluetooth and I have to say: as good as new!
All this cost me only 300Thai Baht = 8Euro = 10USD
So... Before you throw your S4 away or sell it because you have similar problems, try this small surgery.
I hope this helps some of you guys.
Kind regards
Dirk
