Somebody has trouble with WM 2005, ActiveSync 4.0 (in PC) is working not stable or hanging all the time and me too- Magneto with WinXP SP2, office 2003 SP1.
In my experience some solution can be improved as following:
1. ActiveSync via IR - very sample but too slow
2. ActiveSync via Bluetooth - sample and fast
3. ActiveSync via USB, we need to do some steps
+ Turn off firewall of OS windows
+ Open network cards on your Himalaya:: Settings/ Connections/ Network cards
+ Click "Remote NDIS host" and you can see: Marked " Use specific IP addres"
+ Click " Use server-assigned IP address"
+ Click OK
+ Connect your device to PC, ActiveSync must be working at least in my case

You can try remove activesync 4.0 and reinstall again, reset PC, turn off firewall and reconnect.
the problem i have is with outlook and activesync. whenever i try and use activesync, it pops up with some dialog about outlook not being configured correctly. which is true, seeing as I DONT USE OUTLOOK FOR ANYTHING! so why is this happening? it's not even set to sync email as i dont use outlook!

I noticed the same problem with AS 4 - it would only synchronise Favourites and Files.
Read the error messages carefully and you will find one telling you to use the 'Detect & repair' option on Outlook. I did so and it synced properly.
It was when I went back to Outlook Express that I realised that my OE wasnt the default email client anymore - Outlook had taken over that function. I made OE the default client again and AS stopped synchronising - went back to the same old error.
From the above I can only conclude that AS4 will only synchronise with Outlook and not any other PIM programmes. It also requires Outlook to be your default email client if you want to sync - slimy lil microsoft trick.
If you have a firewall, you will also notice that ActiveSync tries to send out email messages - this is both annoying and scary. Who are these messages intended for - Microsoft? I have blocked AS4 from sending emails on my firewall, but I still have to do a 'detect and repair' which sets Outlook as the default email client everytime I want to sync...

I got the same problem with my Win2003Server box.
If you are running XP then you need to apply Service Pack 2
If you are running 2003 then you need to apply Service Pack 1
Seems that these packs have files "netrndis.inf" and "Usb_Rndis.ndi" that fix our problem
If you will find these files could you pls send them here? I dont' have SP1 installed and cant find these anywhere ((
I can confirm this.
On my office notebook I don't have SP2 on XP and Activesync does not work via USB (Bluetooth works).
On my home PC I have SP2 on XP and Activesync works via USB.
I guess I have to try to get these files somehow.
Patric
Update: OK, I got netrndis, but I don't have usb_rndis...
Hi Patric,
Thanx for the file!!!
Can you also post: rndismpx.sys AND usb8023x.sys ?
So, hope we will find a solution for non-SPed WinXPs and maybe for non-SPed Win2003
Thx!
OK, the files are attached. Does this help? I'm still missing the USB_rndis.ndi file.
Cheers Patric

Thank you very much for the files! No need for the "usb_rndis.ndi"
It seems to be working on XP but not on my w2k3 box :-(((
Here what to do with files on XP:
1) Open "Drivers" subfolder in your ActiveSync folder (i.e., c:\program files\microsoft activesync\drivers)
2) Copy all three files there: netrndis.inf, rndismpx.sys & usb8023x.sys
3) Put your I-Mate to the cradle
4) When device installation wizard will ask you to proceed with Automatic or Manual installation you need to Choose "Manual". Then open your activesync's Drivers folder. Choose "Windows Mobile-based device" and wait until installation is finishes...
Good Luck!

Have no exact idea cause didn't have such, but try to:
1) Disable ALL possible firewalls
2) Make sure your current ActiveSync Partnership is not "Microsoft Exchange" and if it is, just delete current partnership and create a new one
3) Remove "Email" from your sync list?!
4) Remove "Favorites" from your sync list?!
thx..
but..I have no firewall turned on (i had only microsoft firewall, it's off)
I have never connected to an exchange server, my partnership in activesync is only with my pc.
I have reinstalled activesync, not useful
removing items could help.. i'll give it a try
i'm going to sleep for now, thanks..
I *think* longhorn is very nice, but i'll stay with xp
I copied everything and did the procedure... now I get the error message 'Device can not start (10)'...
Not successful yet...
Patric

hey i downloaded the win2005 and active sync 4 but when iam flashing ma rom and instaling the file an error says that cannot connect or smthn or an error in connection why is that ?
any progress
Same error Pschosch
No Progress what so ever!!
ActiveSycn 4.0 Works after all!!!
I fixed my ActiveSync USB problem...
I downloaded ActiveSync 4.0 from Microsoft's web site and instlaled over current AS4.0.
When I placed my MDA2 on the cradle, the same problem persisted, so with the PDA still in the cradle I unplugged the USB connector and then connected it again but to another port. Now the system detected a "new" device and installed properly this time so now it works 100%.
I hope this procedure helps you too!
By the way, I'm on Win XP (no SP2) and USB 1.1
Best regards,
Rayan
Does the activesync 4 can sync WM2003SE? cuz i got problem saying that version incompatible..
Has anyone figured out how to get these two to talk together so they sync?
I can't get Media Player 10 to recognise the Exec. I can sync Ok with outlook but just can't get past the Setup bit of Media Player.
I get as far as the "Setup must be completed" then goes on about setting up a partnership with MP10 on pc, i say yes and the loop starts again
its fairly easy.
1. connect usb to pc
2. open wmp10 on pc
3. select sync tab
4. add video, pics and music
5. press start sync on wmp10 and voila.
note it must be synced to a storage card
ive just seen the storage card bit in the help file
Install Version 10 of Windows Media Player before media can be synchronized.
Connect your mobile device to the PC with a USB cable. If the device is also connected using Bluetooth or infrared, you must end that connection before media can be synchronized.
Insert a 32 MB or larger storage card in your mobile device.
Set up a sync partnership between the storage card and Windows Media Player.
my SD is already in the phone so it didnt trigger the sync.

Norton Antivirus. I'll try disabling it when I get home tonight.
ok, my home machine, no AV no Firewall setup, dosent work
work machine, AV running Firewall Running, works fine
both XP SP2 with WMP10 using AS4.1
now im puzzeled
Did you install WMP10 on your PC after installing AS4? If yes then thats the problem. AS4 installs some files for WMP10, so if you install WMP10 after AS4 then they will be overwritten. So you need to install WMP10 first, then AS4.
I read this on the MS site somewhere.
Nop AS4 was installed on both as the last thing on them.
Same here - had WMP10 on for a while now and only installed AS4.1 recently
WM10 AS4
Same here,..WM10 doesn't recordnise my MDA pro. Tried olmoast everything but still no synchronisation. In Active Sync is says to complete the Sync klick here,..and then QM10 starts up. but no way of enabling the synchronisation....
anyone had some advice?
best regards
Arjan
open wmp10 on pda, try selecting library from storage card,
can you see this, if so with wmp10 open on pda now open wmp10 on pc.
on as4 have you ticked to sync windows media box
nope,..didn't solved the problem. Libary is set on storrage card, still no sign of an portable media player...
Anyone can help?
Best Regards
arjan
Same here - I have tried disabling anti-virus but that dosn't help. WMP10 just cannot see the Exec.

Try completely uninstalling all antivrius, firewall, reboot and see what happens.
For that are having problems with AS4/4.1 - I have found uninstalling the COM ports can help as the USB drivers can become corrupted. Also I think you need to make sure that AS is working; do a sync before you try to connect to WM10 on this PC. I have found that my AS does not always start when I connect my JJ to may laptop.
Edit: I am not using USB2 connectors, not sure why but I remember reading I should only use USB1 ports for AS...

Jdee - spot on - works for me nicely.
Thank you ever so much - that's made my morning rush out of the door a lot easier now.
is this at all possible?
from my understanding you have to have media player 10 on the main computer for it too sync... can the MP10 on the exec not sync with any older versions?
I using the Vista RTM and Office 2007 now, But I cann't sync the Contact and Calendar with my Dopod 838Pro. Because in the Sync Centre I only can sync with media in the setup.
May I know the Windows Mobile Device Center can support Outlook 2007?
Problem Fixed!!
After install the Beta 3 of Windows Mobile Device Center instead of the RTM, everything work and sync fine!
Are you able to now Sync media to the device (or, more specifically, the Storage Card in the device) via WMP? I was able to do this w/ AS 4.2 and WMP11, but seem to have lost that functionality in Vista w/ WMDC b3.
-Lee
Yes, I can do this with the Beta 3.
I have racked my brains trying to sync my media to the storage card.
I have Vista Business (volume license msdn subscription) and I sync everything fine with exchange etc, but I havent found any option to sync music to the storage card, only phone memory.
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Ronny
i have this problem too on two vista machines with my 8125. i can't figure out what is the problem. its really making me mad!!!
In regards to WMDC, the official release WMDC 6 is out now for download.
Also, in regards to syncing music to the sd card, you have disable advanced network functionality in your pda USB option to see you Sd card via media player on your pc (problem is, without the advanced checked on, transfer rates are as slow as a floppy drive)
Hi all, i´m having trouble with my music sync with WMP 10 and my X01HT.
I go to the Synchronize tab, but the WMP can not detect my phone, i do F5 to update, but it doesn´t work.
Any help?
Thanks
The best advice I have for that is to use a card reader.. it's much faster than the activesync connection and more reliable.
