Even if I 've changed the home page to something else (Google), whenever I launch from the hard button, it defaults to O2's website. Is there any way to change this?
The URL is stored in the registry:
HKLM\HARDWARE\OEM\KEYBD
PieHomePage = "<your URL here>"
I have mine set to Google.com/pda because it is a very small page to load in case of accidental pushing and GPRS connection.
I actually have "Home" on PIE set to Google.com/ig so that I can go just about anywhere I want in a couple of keypresses/screentaps.
Oh, I think there are longwinded ways of changing this, like Tweaks2K and others, but this is the one stop solution to your question.
sorry if this doesnt answer ur question, but i suggest using opera as it really goes 2 ur set homepage w/o any tweak. that, aside from its other several advantages over IE.
on a slightly different but also related topic, how do i map d default IE button on d HTC univ 2 launch opera? ive tried PQzII but i cant find d IE button, or is it named differently? :?
instead of a URL, specify the full path to the Opera executable.

I have noticed that the link/app behind the IE button on the iMate JASJAR has embedded the www.clubimate.com link and every time you click the button it tries to open up that site. I want to change that so that it acts like the IE icon does on the start menu so that the web page I have up does not get overwritten. The site is not the home page defined in IE because I have already changed that. I am guessing that they have it as a parameter passed on the command line in the button. The button applet does not even have that button as one that can be touched. Anyone know what part of the registry to look at?
Thanks
Joseph
Get a registry editor.
Go to - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\OEM\Keybd
Change the string called PieHomePage to the website address of your choice.
rilot, is there anyway to make the button NOT go to any website? I just want it to switch me back to PIE without changing the page I was browsing.
For example, I'm looking at a web page, and decide to go check my mail by hitting the messaging button - then viewing my mail. Then, when I press the Internet Explorer button I just want to go back to the same spot I left in the browser, not launch any page at all. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Just edit the dword so that it is blank.
Works fine, just tested it.
For the MDA Pro from T-Mobile (Germany) the registry key is different:
\HKLM\software\HTC\PIEPlug\home
internet key
how to disable the key at all, or better to make it a "space" key?
It's just next to "space" in my T-Mobile MDA pro and I can't stand it goes on the net each time I press it by chance typing!!!
thks
Does anyone know how to turn off the stupid "You are about to go online" message everytime u press the button on the MDA?
You say reg edit?? How do you do this?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PIEPlug
In my Qtek9000 the registry change doesn't work. It keeps on appearing the OEM page of the carrier which suxx...
So I created a blank html page and copied it in the Windows directory All set now
You can do the same...
Did you try setting your homepage to "about:blank" ?
I'm not sure if this has been posted before (I couldn't find it if it has), but I was getting really sick of IE going to www.yahoo.com every time I hit the IE button on my Jasjar. I finally fixed it by changing the following registry key:
HKLM/HARDWARE/OEM/KEYBD/PieHomePage
I just deleted www.yahoo.com and left the value blank... that just opens IE with whatever page it was on. You can also put another address in there to open that site every time you hit the IE button.

little embarrased to ask....
How do you keep the universal from going to the imate website when you press the internet explorer button on the keypad :?:
I know on my magician I just open IE explorer. Navigate to the page I want as my homepage and then open tools --> options then select the use current option.
Don't know if it is the same on the Universal.

What are you lot like with your desire to hack the registry when you could use WM5 functionality instead? You'll be hacking the registry to change the volume level next!
No need to touch the registry for this one. Just do as dgaust says above.

Actually the reference isn't just for opening IE, but specifically using the IE key on the keyboard. The "use current" method works fine when opening IE from the start menu but the keyboard button is registry coded to go to imate (or other site depending on the device branding.)
To change that, the registry hack is necessary.
Ah - I hadn't spotted the subtle difference. I stand corrected.

Or blank out the home page addy in that string so PIE will either launch and go to your homepage if PIE is not already running, or it will just switch to your current PIE session when the button is pressed if one is already running.
it works fine thanks
Does anyone know how to increase the number of tabs available in opera?
In Opera. type in the address bar "about:config" and go through the settings, there is a setting for number of tabs. Change it & save.
your a legend my friend thanks!
also just a quick one, is there any particular settings on there that you would recommend changing as there are just so many and i want to maximise my opera browser
hi again,
I tried to change the opera:config settings for tabs but it still will only let me use 2 tabs max even after saving the settings and restarting opera
any suggestions guys?

Open and edit "\windows\Opera9\opera.ini"
Find and change "Maximum Allowed Tabs" and set it to something else(I use 9).
Save changes and softreset.
You can always copy opera.ini to a SD card and make the changes on a PC, and then put it back.
But i use Total Commander(CE) to asociate .ini files to pocketword and make the change on the device.

Soft reset (restart the phone). Opera doesn't actually exit when you choose exit, it remains in the bachground.

For some reason I had to edit my opera.ini file.
After using "about:config" and saving the changes I made a softreset, but it was still set to 2. Maybe it depends on the ROM in use.
My ROM is the Danish 1.39.403.2.

I had the same problem. You have to press the enter key on the onscreen keyboard after you entered a new number of tabs. and then press save. If you don't do this it will stay on max 2 tabs.

Open and edit "\windows\Opera9\opera.ini",
There should be an entry at the bottom called:
Code:
Home
URL=XXXXXXXXXX
Change that.

I did that already... I have succesfully changed the home page, now when I start opera from the start menu I get my new home page.... but If I launch from the internet page on the TF#D interface, it still opens up the HTC site.... I guess it is built into the Interface
I also used the Opera config and it appeared not to increase my number of pages. I swapped countries and SIM cards and suddenly a had more pages. Now I am back on the original SIM with more pages.
I think that it requires more than a soft reset for the feature to show. Really stange eh
thzk man good post, it worked for me
I had the same problems. I disabled the TouchFlo 3D interface and than soft reset the device. Than Opera will not be loaded in the backgroud and you can edit the config.ini. Re-enable TouchFlo 3D aftwerwards, and you're set!
I've tried changing the amount of tabs I can open simultaneously in opera:config but after a soft reset it reverts back to only 2 (which isn't nearly enough). Does anyone know how that is happening?
The same goes for a change to the keyboard settings. Ive tried editing eT9.Rhodium.kmap.txt so the mail button is set to Tab, but a fsoft reset reverts that change as well.
Anyone an idea?
I had the same issue with mine. I kept changing the setting and eventually it stayed at 5 tabs. Not sure what I did differently other than I was persistent.
If you want it to work you need to kill the opera process completely because on the TP2 it is always running due to the push internet. Several ways to do so. I used this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
Install the cab. Reset your device. Open Opera and change the settings you want. Exit Opera. Open again to check if settings are saved. If not, change settings, exit opera, restart device. Now the settings should be saved. You can now uninstall the cab or keep it if you like it.
Let me know if it works for you.
I had that issue a while back. I've since given up on going into opera:config.
I find it much easier to just copy the opera.ini file over to my desktop, edit it accordingly, and then copy it back. Try it out. It's not as daunting as it sounds.
I'm a little confused, I don't see anywhere in Opera where you can change the number of tabs. Do I have to go into a separate app to change the Opera settings? I'm stuck at 2 tabs which is worthless.
