Does anyone know how to increase the number of tabs available in opera?
In Opera. type in the address bar "about:config" and go through the settings, there is a setting for number of tabs. Change it & save.
your a legend my friend thanks!
also just a quick one, is there any particular settings on there that you would recommend changing as there are just so many and i want to maximise my opera browser
hi again,
I tried to change the opera:config settings for tabs but it still will only let me use 2 tabs max even after saving the settings and restarting opera
any suggestions guys?

Open and edit "\windows\Opera9\opera.ini"
Find and change "Maximum Allowed Tabs" and set it to something else(I use 9).
Save changes and softreset.
You can always copy opera.ini to a SD card and make the changes on a PC, and then put it back.
But i use Total Commander(CE) to asociate .ini files to pocketword and make the change on the device.

Soft reset (restart the phone). Opera doesn't actually exit when you choose exit, it remains in the bachground.

For some reason I had to edit my opera.ini file.
After using "about:config" and saving the changes I made a softreset, but it was still set to 2. Maybe it depends on the ROM in use.
My ROM is the Danish 1.39.403.2.

I had the same problem. You have to press the enter key on the onscreen keyboard after you entered a new number of tabs. and then press save. If you don't do this it will stay on max 2 tabs.

I did that already... I have succesfully changed the home page, now when I start opera from the start menu I get my new home page.... but If I launch from the internet page on the TF#D interface, it still opens up the HTC site.... I guess it is built into the Interface
I also used the Opera config and it appeared not to increase my number of pages. I swapped countries and SIM cards and suddenly a had more pages. Now I am back on the original SIM with more pages.
I think that it requires more than a soft reset for the feature to show. Really stange eh
thzk man good post, it worked for me
I had the same problems. I disabled the TouchFlo 3D interface and than soft reset the device. Than Opera will not be loaded in the backgroud and you can edit the config.ini. Re-enable TouchFlo 3D aftwerwards, and you're set!

it is funny you mention because the question really is how to close opera. Once you have opened opera it stays on. the only thing is that you cannot see it in the task manager. they made it invisible so you can't kill the process. but now you also cant start it up from there. so when clicking the X you are minimizing the app. don't you think it starts fast when opening it for a second time. when new roms come without manilla, you will see it again in the task manager

just exit the program via the opera-menu then it really closes.
if you use the X it does only minimize.

that still doesnt close it, if u use a proces monitor like Sktools u can still see Opera9.exe running, its even in the top 10 in mem usage. killing it in the process monitor doesnt seem to fix it either as the proces gets restarted somehow, but it does use lots less memory afterwards
I uses Touch Pro (Raphael) before switching to Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium), Opera minimizes visibly in Task Manager. But not in Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). Now I know...
But is there a trick or 2 to modify the registry in Manila file(s)?
this would explain why sometimes as I'm moving offices etc and connecting to different wi-fi's sometimes although the wi-fi is connected it continues to use 3G.
I shutdown Opera and restart usually to try and force it to use the connected wi-fi but sometimes it just doesn't.
Turns out I'm not really shutting down opera hence why It continues to use it's original connection to 3G (not always though.)

I have been playing around with the registries and it seems there are some registry settings that you can change to prevent that
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
If you look into the above folder, you can find a list of apps that will run under exclusive, meaning they will not show up in the normal task manager. You will notice Opera9.exe is in there. If you remove the entry, you can now see Opera9.exe in the task list. But it still doesn't seem to terminate the process when you exit Opera. Hence for the first poster, if you just stop here, your Opera will minimize visibly to the tasklist once you click on the "X"
For those who want to further kill Opera when you click on "X", you need to go to
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
Add a DWORD key (Opera9.exe) and set the value to 1. Now when you exit Opera, the process will be terminated and memory returned.
This works for me.
Cool~ Will try it out. Thanks so much!

is there ANY possibility of someone posting a screenshot of exactly what this looks like when it is typed in? I am so new and i dont want to mess up anything. Thanks.
But it opens very quickly when you want to use it again. Almost immediatly.
I just use cleanRAM a couple of times a day...Mostly after using opera
As far as I know opera keeps running is because push page is enabled.
Turn off push page in registry and reboot, then and it should not be always running in background.

Hello,
Sorry, it doesn't work for me
I've tryed every solution I found, I believe on registry settings, but all I found doesn't work, the opera9.exe process still become again and again, however I kill it, turn on the registry keys (RealExit, allready on), using the right menu of Opera for the built in "real" exit, killing Opera9.exe from different Task Manager (then OperaL.exe appears a few seconds, then Opera9.exe again), renaming file OperaL.exe to not be launched at startup -> another one was restored (more ancient) !
How is it possible to change any settings on a brower, or installing any plugin, if this one is always running ??
Thanks for help

Yes, you did it ! Woohoo !
Thanks a lot for this tip, it helps me !
In fact, I didn't need to install the NoPushInternet_v2.CAB of TinTin, but thanks to him ; the indication that there is a service to stop was suffisant for me. I set myself the PushInternet service to start manually, with FdcSoft Task Manager. After soft reset, Opera is not launched automatically !
I gain 5% of free memory.
In addition to that, Opera works better now, the splash screen of Opera Mobile appears when he starts, sign that it is really launched manually. And Flash Player runs now, that's great ! Sign that it is not possible to install a plugin when the browser is still running. And also, when minimized, Opera appear in the Task Manager menu of TF3D, great too.
Strangely, when I use the Opera menu to exit, it does not ! He's not minimized, but Opera9.exe is still running. But I can kill it and he doesn ot reappear.
Also, if I use the X button, Opera really exit ! So, all is allright
Anybody has an idea oon which process to chose to do the same with Activesync ?
Should be \Windows\repllog.exe ?
I've tried changing the amount of tabs I can open simultaneously in opera:config but after a soft reset it reverts back to only 2 (which isn't nearly enough). Does anyone know how that is happening?
The same goes for a change to the keyboard settings. Ive tried editing eT9.Rhodium.kmap.txt so the mail button is set to Tab, but a fsoft reset reverts that change as well.
Anyone an idea?
I had the same issue with mine. I kept changing the setting and eventually it stayed at 5 tabs. Not sure what I did differently other than I was persistent.
If you want it to work you need to kill the opera process completely because on the TP2 it is always running due to the push internet. Several ways to do so. I used this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
Install the cab. Reset your device. Open Opera and change the settings you want. Exit Opera. Open again to check if settings are saved. If not, change settings, exit opera, restart device. Now the settings should be saved. You can now uninstall the cab or keep it if you like it.
Let me know if it works for you.
I had that issue a while back. I've since given up on going into opera:config.
I find it much easier to just copy the opera.ini file over to my desktop, edit it accordingly, and then copy it back. Try it out. It's not as daunting as it sounds.
I'm a little confused, I don't see anywhere in Opera where you can change the number of tabs. Do I have to go into a separate app to change the Opera settings? I'm stuck at 2 tabs which is worthless.
Hi guys,
I have a little problem here...
I tried to disable HTC Sense using Setting tab in Sense. OK, so far so good Sense is disabled.
But what if I want to enable it again?... Sense is not present therefore Settings tab is not reacheable, and any options are not reachable even from start menu. There is no settings icon :/
Any ideas?

Start/settings it should be there, if not, there's something really weird going on on your device.
Well, if it would be so easy I would not ask
There is not settings option in startmenu... Its the mentioned problem :/
Try this:
Go into the Windows Mobile Settings, NOT the Manila Settings (you need to active the option to see them in the menu, e.g. with the help of BSBTweaks..), then go to "TODAY", next TAB (Elements in German) and see there is the Manila option. If its unselected, select it, if its selected, make it unselected, softreset and select it again! This should help you. Give it a try and let us know!
-SY
Check this out to enable the missing "SETTINGS"!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305
Problem is that I tried to delete directory Windows/StartMenu/Settings and create it again. Since this I can see in start menu only one icon: "Today" which is shortcut for today screen only (same as one of hard keys on HD2).
Therefore I cant install BSBTweaks because I cant reach File Explorer or Total Commander or enything else
There are only three things which I can do with my phone right now:
1. soft reset
2. connect it to the PC via activesync
3. hard reset
Connect via activesync and let us know if you have anything in the folder \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
I have everything there as before this issue. But visible in phone is only Today icon.

Sounds like you've really screwed it mate. Guess that's a lesson - don't delete folders in the windows folder!
My advice would be a hard reset. Sorry - can't think of anything else.

and who's a silly billy then! hehe. looking like a hard reset, unless someone cares to zip up their settings folder for you to try replace your folder, not sure that would work though.
The following will work even if using the basic file explorer that comes with the phone:
- start file explorer
- click on menu (right soft key) and click on "show all files"
- go to Windows
- scroll until you find htcSettingEntry.exe (will take a bit of scrolling!)
- click on it, it will open the "all settings" screen, from there you can access the "today" settings and re-enable sense
Jesus Im piece of noob... I have created Settings folder in Windows/StarMenu/Programs not in Windows/StarMenu. I moved it to correct folder and it is up and running again
Isadoras steps helped also. Using htcSettingEntry.exe file in Windows folder you can reach HTC Settings and set whatever you need.
Thx guys .)

Look in your Manila Core or Sense Core package in the .reg or .rgu for this registry entry and make sure its on 0. Or change in your current ROM using a regeditor. Soft reset and your settings icon will be back in the start menu.

I need help in disabling vibration when using the keyboard. I've tried to look for it in the forums and in the device settings but did not find anything. There is no personalization in the Settings tab.

thanks for the links! but i think the HD2 US that i have does not have that remove vibration option in the settings. i tried to look for that option in all the settings but i could not find it. if it's there, then i definitely need to have my eyes checked.
Im running a generic HTC ROM on my T9193 model; go to the Settings tab (in Sense), then Personalize, then Vibration
Using Resco Registry go to
Hkey Local Machine > Software > HTC > ezsip
Add a new DWORD Value string and call it "VibrationEnabled" (without the quotes) and give it a value of 0.
Soft reset and BAM!
But this is with Resco Registry, with another reg edit program, i am not sure what kind of string you are adding, hopefully it is still called DWORD.

If anyone is still having issues with this problem there is an easier way without messing around with the registry. From any screen hit the Windows button to the right of the home button on the phone itself, not the touchscreen. Then find the "settings" icon and tap that. Next you will see a "personalize" tab and tap it, at the very bottom of those options you will see a "vibration" tab, tap that and you will be taken to a screen that allows you to change the settings for the keyboard, simply uncheck the box, tap done and your all set

I'm using the NRG ROM, and those instructions don't make any sense to me. Also, be aware that the stock TMOUS ROM (as I recall, I didn't use it long), does not give access to the standard "Settings" icon except via the Sense tab.

You are correct, on a stock ROM if I remember right you have to go to Settings>Menu>All Settings>Personal>Imput I think it has been a little while since I used any Windows Mobile ROMs now.
Registry hack worked for me.
Would be interesting to determine impact on battery life.
TMOUS-Sense Vibration Settings
This is an old thread but there was a recent reply. For the T-Mobile HD2 with a stock ROM amd/or the Sense overlay, go to the Settings tab, select Personalize, select Vibration and then uncheck the box. However, this did not turn off vibration for the Swype keyboard.
If you have another ROM, then these settings may not be available via this method. BSB Tweaks has settings to turn off/on vibration for HTC apps and calculator vibration. Of course, the registry editing will work. I have found the Resco registry editor to be easy and useful.
Hi. I have recently got a Touch 2. On the tabs along the bottom of the screen, the fifth tab from the left is the one featuring a 'globe' icon. Tapping it opens the 'Opera' browser. I prefer using Internet Explorer and (at the moment) have to open that by using the 'Start' menu. Is there a way of making IE the default browser so that it starts when the 'globe' tab is tapped? I imagine this requires dumping of 'Opera' and making tapping of the 'globe' icon leading to IE. HTC gave me a solution, then, when that didn't work, said, 'It can't be done.' Any ideas? Cheers
I know exactly what you need...
1. Find application called M2DC on this forum.
2. Install it.
3. Run it. There are some tabs at the bottom of the screen.
4. Find tab "Internet" and click on it.
5. Then change the path to the Internet Explorer in the Windows folder.
6. That's it. You should be able to use globe icon to run IE.
(I am not sure, but you maybe need to softreset the phone after changing that.)
Hi, Mekki99.
I did that and it works, well almost. IE starts from the tab on the 'Today' screen, but then says 'Cannot find 'hxxp:///home'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.' If I advance to the relevant menu to go to the 'Home' page, it finds the one i have lodged as the Home Page. Where to from here? Cheers.
why do you wanna surf the net with internet explorer and not opera mini 5, which is super fast compared to the old opera or internet explorer?
Quite simply, I prefer IE. Thanks.
Hello, my solution for this problem:
In TotalCommander go into registry folder (\\Plugins\registry)and go to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\
1.Changing browser- open file (WebBrowserType) and change value from 1 to 2.
2.Changing URL- open folder Customized and find file (BannerUrl) and change value to your favorite homepage.
3.Restart
Hi. Thanks for your solution.
Can you help me a bit further?
What is TotalCommander?
How do I get to the quoted registry folder?
Cheers
Hi, Ondrej.
Don't worry, I have followed your directions using a bit of lateral thinking and solved that issue. Thanks heaps.
Now can you turn your mind to the problem I relate in thread 730375 (On the 'Start' menu, there are a number of icons / applications. They all start with one tap. Except 'Internet Explorer'. The first tap on the IE icon, takes you back to the 'Today' screen, with 'Internet Explorer' briefly being able to be seen in place of 'Start', then the words disappear. However, the programme does not run. On tapping 'Start', again, and then tapping once on the 'IE' icon (again), it runs. This happens every time I want to use IE. Why? HTC Contact Centre suggested I place IE on the 'Programs' page and try that. It was the same. They have failed to respond to my response. Is there a remedy? The same behaviour occurs when opening from the 'Programs' tab on the 'Today' screen, or from the 'Browser' tab on the 'Today' screen'.)
Cheers. Dave
Hi, TotalCommander is a file manager program for windows. You have to download and install a pocket pc version. Because Iam new here, I cant write you url. Please find this program on internet. (Download cab for arm/pxa/xscale).
Start a TotalCommander and go into root (\) You will see a \\Plugins folder.
Hi, Ondrej.
Thanks. See my last post before yours. I have fixed that issue, but want to resolve the last one! Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Here with me, I don't want to use IE, I prefer to use Opera. The HTC im using came with Opera Mobile 9.5 and is the browser that opens when i click on the globe on one of the tabs of M2D. I downloaded mobile opera 10 for windows touch phones thinking that it will update the current opera browser, and to my dissatisfaction - it did not. Opera Mobile 10 appears on my program list.
How do I make it the browser that opens when i click on the globe? Should I follow the instructions provided in this thread? I don't want to mess up my registry and have irreversible issues.

Is this the same procedure if I would like to change it to any browser, say Opera Mobile 10? The person who started this thread wrote he got problems after he did this operation.
