Hello...
I have used loadvdisk.exe & exttools_modified_alpine_500.exe but can't seem to add files to it... the program states that it is write protected...
I still have the original Asian ROM installed out-of-the-box and I don't want to upgrade yet I want to utilize the Ext ROM as extra storage space...
Does anybody have an idea how to unwrite protect the Ext Rom?

At www.Buzzdev.net , the Holly GOD Buzzz made a way to reformat the 32 meg chip on the Himalaya to 31 megs of Storage and .5 meg Ext ROM! This is a wonderful breakthrough for the 2005 users.
I tried to run it on my Alpine and it reformated it to .5 megs of storage and it laves the EXT ROM un touched. (Using his Restore tool, I can make my storage 15 megs but the Alpine comes with over 50 megs of storage).
I think this is becasue you can only unhide useing the built in "loadVdisk.exe", (Also Attached)
I want to unlock the Ext ROM so his tool can delete the Ext ROM so I can use the good mem for other things. Hopefully Buzz will make his program configurable so it can delete the Ext ROM and make BIG storage. If he can make it configurable, we can also use it to get rid of the Ext ROM on other devices too!
If you are wondering why I want to get rid of the ext ROM??? Well unless you are a newbie and can not install your own programs; OR you can not set up programs by your self; OR you can FULLY use your device after a hard reset, (HA HA HA, laugh, laugh); OR you are not aware of Sprite Back up or SunnySoft Backup; then Ext ROM is a WASTE of GOOD MEMORY! 8)

hmm, I thought 2005 doesn't run on the Alpine !? Do you have it working there?
Thanks,
Tin
No, he made the tool for the Himalaya so everyone can nhave 31 megs of storage.. I tried the tool on the Alpine, hopeing it would get rid of my ext rom and make big storage.
hi all,
recently i unlocked the ext rom for my kjam and it's running fine, but after doing that, the storage location for the camera app is set to ext rom instead of the storage card which i set, and when i wanted to change it back to the storage card, it doesn't show on the list.
what would be the cause for this? anyone can help out with this to get it back to store my pictures on the storage card?
thanks in advance guys.
I ran into this today and ended up having to hard reset to clear it - there may be a way to shut off the External Rom access again, but I couldn't find it before I got frustrated....
By unlocking the EXT ROM, the SD card is re-labeled to Storage Card 2. The camera app does not recognize this and only sees main mem and ext rom after this. There is no solution afaik other then relocking the ext rom. I did that, since I never edit the ext rom anyway. I also don't use the camera, but ok. In the ext rom unlock thread there is also a possibility to lock the ext rom again without a hard reset. I don't have the exact link at the moment (poor internet connection at the moment), but use the search and ye shall find.
Hi.
i want to move Windows big size file like PowerPoint from memory to SD card.
how can i do this?
You can't really - you'd have to build yourself a new rom, removing the apps you want from the original rom, flash the new rom, and then make backups of the removed apps on your sd. Not easily feasible.

I was thinking that i can do it through registry!.
anyway how can i build my own rom?. some guides, please.
Thanks.
btw, my device is imate jasjar
I've installed Indra's WM6.0 ROM and everything looks promising.
I used to use the EXT ROM to install programs rather than installing them on storage card as I use different memory cards. But now with the new 6.0 ROMs, it won't allow me to install any programs or save any files.
I tried to search for it but couldn't find any info. If anyone can enlighten me on how to save or install programs on EXT ROM as a regular memory card, I would be grateful.
i just used the extrom unlocker as usual and it presents me with the option during setups that support installing not on internal storage (midget's wm6 rom)
Hi!
For my experience: you can up another old ROM, use ExtROM unlock then up again with WM06, it will be use Extended Rom.

I know that it's been unlocked but it seems like we cannot save files or programs into it.
Can anyone confirm that if I load an older ROM and install a new one, I'll be able to save files in it.
TIA
I'm using Midget_1990 and installed a lot of programs in the storage (Ext Rom) with no probs
Hello,
since my artemis seems to get lower on performance as I used up Main Storage, I wonder what effect it would have if I try to cook my used apps into the rom.
Is it right, that I can compile any software into rom? what would be max rom-size? what for then I find cabs in extended rom? Are Programms using less Storage if they are compiled into Rom?
if programs are located in rom they dont use any storage rom only app mem unless they use temp files which use storage
extented run are just cab files which are auto installed to storage so it dont help you at all
...Sorry, I am not sure, if I really got your message.
First ROM itself stands for (read only memory), that is defenitively storage.
I guess I am lacking knowledge about storage architekture. As I know from that 128 MB rom Dice, I always get some 46mb main Storage for Installing Programs, or saving my Phone-Contacts etc.....
I thought that remaining space, is dependent from whats inside my Rom, whatelse for would it make sence to put free storage below any self-cooked rom available on this forum?
The interesting stuff would be, what kind of programs I can compile into any rom, what would be the exact effect?
