Problem With PicoDrive Controls? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I use PicoDrive as my megadrive / genesis emulator. The roms run just fine, however there is a problem with the controls... when I go into options, I select a control (up or down for instance), I then press the key I want to use on the slide out keyboard, and this registers on the options. Once i've set all the controls like this I go to play the game, but the controls are all messed up - pressing up makes my character move down, left makes it go right etc. Has anyone else experienced this problem with picodrive?

does no one else have this problem?

Lock buttons/touchscreen when playing MP3s?

The Wizard has the option, when it is in...ummm...standby(?) mode (i.e., when you push the power button), to only return to normal mode when you press the power button. In other words, the other hardware buttons, let alone the touchscreen, do nothing.
What I'm interested in is a way of doing something similar, but when I'm using it as an MP3 player. The various Wizard cases I've tried are all too snug, so putting the Wizard back in the case after starting up the MP3 player bumps buttons or the screen and causes problems (e.g., stops the music).
Are there any tricks to restricting input for cases like this? Ideally, from my standpoint, the device would accept user input when either the middle button of the D-pad is pushed, or if a call comes in (so the call can be accepted).
Thanks!
You can try using the WM5 Today's lock device plugin. There are various other software that utilize (similate) this lock feature. Do a search.

Hanmin, I do exactly as you suggested but I wonder if is there a more efficient way to lock the device especially with media player on top. I use the Treo case which actually has a hole for the headphone jack in the proper location for the k-jam, however, one has to thread the headphone through the case, start one's music, bring up the today screen, and then lock the device. If one could have the option of placing lock the device on the start menu as opposed to having it only on the today's screen that to me may be a big help, and then as you come out of unlocking the device, you would be right there at the media player.
What I'm afraid of is one time while I'm fidgeting to get the device into the case and coordinate the starting/locking of music, I'll drop the device on the NYC subway platform and watch it dash on to the tracks as a subway is on coming
Try deltaLock I use it together with WMP10 and wired/bt headsets.
Would it help if you could map the device lock to a button?
Armstrom has made a great program for that:
http://www.mr2-power.com/downloads/DeviceLock.CAB
You don't have to go back to the today screen at all, just press the button you mapped it to.
you can also assign a button to sreen on/off in Windows Mediaplayer itself! Then you can use the d-pad buttons (that's what you wanted not?) to adjust volume and select next and previous, however you screen is blacked out, so the touchscreen will not work and power consumption drops. Ideal for use as MP3 player.
WM Player > Menu > Options > Buttons > Screen on/off, > assign e.g. the middle button.

There is a bug in WMP10 on WM5 that prevents this from being assigned to buttons other than dpad though correct? Anyone have a fix for this yet? I like having up/down for volume, right/left for track, and middle button for play/pause.

Yeah but... that means the button will always be a lock. What I used to do on previous pocketpc was have a button that launched WMP. Once WMP is running, that button now becomes the screen lock.
Itesla, you can still have your up down left right and enter dpad control, as you can assign two functions to each button. A press and a press and hold (except the middle button). When it asks you to press a button, just hold up or down (left and right hold are assigned to rewind and fast forward). I have down hold set to fullscreen and up hold set to the lock.
Alternitavely, you could use the press up down for a button lock, and just use the volume slider
Hope this helps
PS I'm posting this on my wizard from the comfort of my bed  Ahh the glories of Wifi... I'm just a bit overhappy because I've finally got it working.

Thanks 1-2tje, your suggestion was dead on. Eb

hardware button mapping - without losing defaults

I want to assign more hardware buttons to start apps and perform functions such as 'start' and 'ok' without losing the default set of buttons.
So I want all the buttons you get as default on my xda mini s plus I want to be able select the 'start' button and 'ok' from hardware buttons - like you can when the sliding keyboard is open.
I also want to hardware start tasks, notes etc.
I don't want to use smartskey as doesn't this change the volume slider to page-up/page-down?
There seems to be a couple of apps out there that can enable this e.g. vito button mapper though was wondering if anyone could recommend something inc freeware if poss.
Cheers.
You can edit the smartskey.ini to disable the volume slider and just use the press and hold features of the softkeys. I can't understand why you would want to though. By default smartskey allows the volume slider to function as a volume control in the phone app and in the today screen.
ah ha - I didn't know that.
smart key it is for me then, thanks very much.
Smartskey is the best app on my wizard. You will love it and wonder how you managed without it within the day.

emulators and button requiring games on touch

in the past week ive been studying up on the touch dual a bit as i might get one as a replacement to my ancient htc wizard. The main thing i (along with a number of other people im finding) see as a problem is the lack of soft-keys above the d-pad. I know for most programs you can just use the on screen bottom two keys, but for emulators im just wondering how this would work?
I know morphgear has button mapping so I could map the three sega controller buttons to the physical number pad and be fine there, but what about picodrive and other emulators whos internal programming just expect there to be soft-keys and default the controls to them?
if it wasnt for my love of classic games and the need to have them work on my phone, the touch dual would be in my hand as we speak!
shade
I mainly use morphgear and finalburn and all work fine...
I prefer morphgear exacly because of its customization features, its not the best or fastest, but its easier to use.
Great news, you CAN use all the keys in picodrive, just select the 3 keys option (instead of 6) in picodrive v0.52.
well, my dual cant handle if two buttons are pressed at the same time :S,
so i have to use dpad, and one number at a time for other functions because dpad center conflicts with the left, right etc...:S
Is there a way to fix it??
This isnt what you wanted, but this genesis emulator can mimic severall button pressed with a screen touch:

Does Pocketnester work with Dash 3G Trackball?

Hi guys I just upgraded my Dash to 3g. I installed pocketnester and when I play mario the only way he walks or runs is to keep scrolling the trackball. Can I use the trackball with pocketnester or do I have to assign buttons? Is there any other emulator out there that may support a trackball or a application to edit the trackball? Before I purchased I thought that if you just hold the trackball in one direction the object will keep moving. Thanks
The trackball actually emulates standard directional key presses. 2 or 3 quick swipes (configurable via the trackball control panel) will trigger "repeat mode".
The Snap is unfortunately a poor choice for emulation, unless you can remap the directional keys to keyboard keys.
bubble's right -- The trackball just emulates rapid directional button presses. However, you CAN assign the NES d-pad directions to keyboard buttons on the Snap/Dash 3G, as I have, and it's not bad. You may have to remap depending on the game you play, but it's not that hard. I play NES games on my Dash 3G constantly, and I don't have any control issues.
If you want to try the trackball, however, you CAN assign buttons to it. It's nearly unplayable, though.

Could you provide some details on how to assign buttons? Also, what emulator are you using?
Many thanks.

How to get LG Expo keys to work in FpseCE and MorphGear

Before you get too excited this isn't a fix to the key mapping issue, it is simply me explaining how I've set up the keys to make games be playable on both emulators. with this set up they do work pretty well though.
FpseCE
First of all your going to want a frameskip of 0. With the snapdragon processor I've found that for the games I've tried at least it just makes them slower to add a frameskip.
Now for the keys. First open up the phone and then push the top left of the screen to go into portrait mode with the keys open. Your going to want to set the controller type to dual shock. Once that's done go into multikey. Push buttons 1-8 in order and unselect any buttons that are already highlighted and in use. then go back to 1 and start setting up your keys. This is how I set up mine.
Mutikey PS Controller Key Expo Key
1 Square Left
2 Circle Right
3 Triangle Up
4 X Down
5 R1 Camera Button
6 L1 Applications Button
7 Start Space Bar
8 Select Backspace
For racing games I switch the X and the R1 button because for some reason every time I pushed another key while holding X it would make me press X again to go again. Switching those two keys fixes that problem.
If you want to try and set up it differently for a certain game here is a list of all the keys that work for the LG Expo. (Left, Right, Up, Down, Space Bar, Enter/Ok (two buttons act as the same entry), Backspace, Camera Button, Application Button, Volume Up, Volume down)
Then go out of mutikey by pushing the back button on the phone. Go back to the controller and push the down arrow to set up the analog stick. Click on the box below the left analog stick until it shows a PSP looking device with the screen lit.
Push back on your phone and go into screen mapping. I prefer the 5 by 3 grid. Tap on the middle left most spot and change the control to left analog stick, an L with a circle around it. Make sure the input type is the arrows pointing both ways meaning it will only stay pressed as long as you press it. Then go to icon and change it to a target looking icon with a circle and a circle around it.
Now you're ready to play. Make the game full screen again and now your screen is the analog stick. Anywhere on the screen will actually activate the analog stick. What I do is put my thumb under the image on the screen so I can check and see which way it is facing without lifting my thumb.
MorphGear
The keys that work with MorphGear are the same as with FpseCE and those are (Left, Right, Up, Down, Space Bar, Enter/Ok (two buttons act as the same entry), Backspace, Camera Button, Application Button, Volume Up, Volume down).
I only play GBA games with my phone, so for other systems you may need to set them up differently, although these should work the same for the GB, GBC, NES, and many SNES games if not some others.
For up, down, left, and right I use those same buttons on the keyboard. I then use the Camera Button, Application Button and OK buttons for A, B, and R in different variations depending on the game I'm playing. Then use Volume Up and Volume Down for Start and Select. I put the Space Bar as the L button, but I don't intend on playing games that use it for anything else than occasional use.
If you were to play games that consistently use the L button you could either use Ok and Space Bar for A and B and then use the Camera Button and Application Button for the R and L buttons. However many games would also require you to press A and B at the same time so you would probably have to switch the A and B and the Start and Select buttons. it would be a bit weird holding the phone to play games with the A and B at the volume keys (most of the reason I avoid games that require use of the L key), but it would be playable.
Well, I hope all this helps.
You had me pretty excited there for a minute. Thanks for the info though.
Thanks for your excellent post! Would it be possible for you to upload your fpseCE configuration file? I am having problems getting fpseCE working, every rom i load just exits the program...

First of all it might just be the version of fpsece you're using. I had some issues with that myself for a bit. Make sure you're using fpsece 0.10. You can get that here.
http://perso.numericable.fr/schtruck/FpseCE_010.zip
I've also attached my fpse.ini file as well in case it isn't just the version you are using. You are still going to need to edit the keys for your games like I mentioned in my first post to get those properly working.
