Has onyone heard about sth like this?
What kind of notifications are you thinking about? SMS? If so, maybe this is one service provided by GMail (I'm not using this provider) but it will definately cost. In germany, some carriers give you free email accounts with free SMS notifications. You can forward your mail from GMail there and receive a notification whenever an email got in (actually, this is what I'm using - free and perfect!).

"The Gmail Notifier is a downloadable Windows application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. It displays an icon in your system tray to let you know if you have unread Gmail messages, and shows you their subjects, senders and snippets, all without your having to open a web browser."
Yep, it's called pocket outlook. There you can set it up to check your mail periodically (costs GPRS data = money).

Does it support secure connections?
I don't think so...
Yes it does - SSL connections.
Haven't you checked your email settings already?
Now I remember...
I've tried it.
But the method of full synchronisation (like in PO) isn't very GPRS friendly...
Full synchronisation? What do you mean? You can set PO to only get the headers and fully download only the mails you want to (check them for download afterwards). I don't see the difference to a special application which does the same (i.e. checking the server periodically for new mails and downloading them if the user wants to).
The quote above is for a PC alert, not a PPC alert. If your pop settings are correct on your gmail account, it should work for you.
when using the email client to check my hotmail email i have the option for it to delete the emails when i delete them on my phone but every time i go to my email on the computer the emails are still there and unread so i have a boatload of unread emails to go delete again. any way to help make it right?

Don't you need to have some type of setting, either on your device or with hotmail, to have the handset make changes to your actual email box?
I remember with a blackberry you could set up your account to listen strictly to your phone and what you tell it to delete versus the server. Try checking your hotmail settings to see if you're simply getting a copy on your device of an email or actually accessing and changing your email messages.
I retrieve my emails via POP. When they are retrieved, the emails are being marked as read. Sometimes I check my webmail before checking my phone, so I don't know which ones are new any more. Is there any way to keep emails unread during the Android POP retrieval?
I'm guessing that it must be a server setting, as that's not what happens with Hotmail, using pop3.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
Hi guys. I currently use the gmail app for my gmail account and the typical email app for my outlook account. I have noticed that Gmail will eventually remove a notification from my task bar if I read the email somewhere on my computer. The email app, however, will just keep racking the new mail count up. I use outlook push notification, so I will get notifications for new mail while I am at work. I typically check them on my computer, since I am there. When I go to my phone after several of these, I will have a notification on my phone saying that I have X new emails. When I open the notification, they will all be read.
Has anybody else experienced this issue? Is this just a limitation of using outlook push notification?
is it possible to have the emails from the same sender as one entry when in the inbox.. so when you click on the email, it shows all the emails..
like how gmail does it... or is this only a gmail feature?
