Simple question about wizard keyboard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

does an english wizard have the same physical keyboard (letters in the same positions) than an italian or french or german wizard?
Are the keyboards all the same?
thanx

nope.. T-Mobile germany's keyboards are QWERTZ:

While here's a French AZERTY:
http://www.smartphonefrance.info/img/Qtek9100-05.jpg

well...i need to know the italian and the english...do they match?

as far as letter and number keys go, yes - IT and EN are both:
QWERTYUIOP
ASDFGHJKL
ZXCVBNM
There may be some difference in the other keys, due to the italian language making use of extended letters a lot (thus putting them on the keyboard would be useful for users of it).
Haven't spotted a picture of an IT one yet

if the underlying question is: Can I use an english ROM with an italian device? The answer is : yes. You will find other posts that explain what registry changes will let you map correctly the keyboard. Like in France we use AZERTY keyboards, so making the correct registry changes, we can use our french keyboard and use the A key and get an A instead of a Q

yes but the problem is that in italian qwerty there are buttons for à,è,é,ò,ì,ù ...very used letter in my language...i just wonder if on english qwerty these letters/button ar present and primary.

Its' the same in French! If you have an italian device and if you update correctly the registry you should have all keys functionning as before. I've not tested it yet on my phone (still a french ROM) but I do it on my PC: french keyboard and english OS. I can use all the accented letters like if I were using a French keyboard with a French OS. I don't see why it should be otherwise on the PPC.

i can't explain...sorry!
what I mean is if the letter/button "è" (for instance) is NOT PHISICALLY present/written on the phisycal qwerty english tkeyboard BUT it is present ( and IT IS PRESENT because I use it everyday) on the italian qwerty...this answers to my question

Not quite sure what you are looking for exactly. Anyway, maybe this will help:
go to \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
There should be a "Locale" string value. If it's not there create it! and give it the value "0410"
To get the accented letters like e
press e
then the blue dot (left bottom corner)
then the space bar
I hope I'm making sense.Good luck!

:x
He's asking whether the keys are physically there on the slide-out keyboard. I.e. is there a little label / sticker with "è" on it?
There isn't one the English version (you can still get that character by means of the Sym key in combination with the 'e' key).

just to add confusion to this problem.
i have a t mobile MDA and a frien has a O2 mini and the keyboard layout is different on both. the Mini gets the benefit of a '£' sign whilst i have to get the electronic keyboard out for this. i suppose i could do a reg edit, anyone know how???

Can i change O2 Rom to work correctly with spanish keyboard?

Hi,
In the office I have a qtek 9000 spanish version (spanish keyboard). I have upgraded to O2 english rom. Everything is fine but the keyboard. Some specials keys (colon, semicolon, etc) doesnt match keyboard because the rom "thinks" my keyboard is an "english keyboard". Is there any way to change it? maybe remapping the scan codes? may be applying a pach)?
Thanks
Was just looking into this...
I was just checking the other forums on this and came across some interesting posts in the wizard section on remmapping keyboard by way of a reg edit. Here is the data pertaining to the wizard. You can probably do the same with the Universal. CREDIT GOES TO OAINOT for this.
Now we need a small registry hack.
1. Use a registry editor like total commander.
2. Go to \HKCU(HK Current User)\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale.
3. Change the value of the key "Locale" from "0809" to "0407". "0407" is the locale ID for Standard German. You can find other Locale ID suitable for you at: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/winxp/xp-lcid.mspx.
4. Do a soft reset and enjoy. All the keys and symbols have fixed right.
Try this.
I found this info by doing a forum search for "QWERTZ" (the german keyboard layout).
Good Luck and let me know how it goes.

Also check out AE Keyboard Mapping Software
Thanks, I have solved it in other way.
I ve changed the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty from 66569 (english) to 68617 (spanish) and works fine
hello
i have qwertz keyboard
and Italian rom
how i must change the key?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM
why I don't see qwertz key in the registry?
if
I must create new one?

o2 mini XDA S Keyboard layout wrong after I-mate ROM update

So i bought myself an o2 mini xda s - Wow it ran like a dog when i first got it. So i updated the rom with the latest imate ROM, after first unlocking the device. Works great, superrr fast!
However now my keyboard is mapped wrong. Physically on my "A" key i have also the "!" on "S" i have the "@". Now, after ROM update, pressing "!" will give me "~" pressing "@" gives me "!" - everything is shifted right one.
I was pointed at the shareware app AEKmapp, but its another app that has to load, and i dont like that. Its also not free, is there another solution to restore my keyboard?
i had this problem as well. The O2 mini S is a ENGLISH (UK) qwerty keyboard which is actually physically different from the K-Jam and 9100 keyboard. I have been using the registries tweak program in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725 which allows you to choose a UK or US keyboard layout. I assume there is a registry edit for it somewhere as well. but this is a good way to solve it as well.
Thanks for the thought of why the keyboard 'dot' characters are messed up. Here are the registry changes ....
16. Keyboard language
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Key: Locale (string)
Value: 0809 English UK
0409 English US
0407 German
0419 Russian
040C French
0410 Italian
040A Spanish
Thanks to "nicodekker" for publishing the list of hacks in the link above.
i had the exactly the same problem as ferrerpheonix. now everything is ok. thank you very much guys.

ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD - WHERE IS THE "?"

I prefer using the on-screen keyboard with the enlarged keys, and with the "space" key.
The problem is, that I can't find the "?". So everytime I have to ask a question, I have to change the input method - that is so irritating. I have to say, that my keyboard is scandinavian - so maybe they had to sacrifice the "?" for the local letters we have.
But, if the "?" is there on the keyboard - then do somebody know where it is hidden? And if not, is it posible in changing the layout/some letters - in a simple and easy way?
On an English keyboard the ? is accessed via the shift key.
Unfortunately that is not the case om the scandinavian keyboard. Maybe it is because there are not enough keys - since they have to include three letters more than the english (æ, ø and å).
But they have included signs like: "["
A sign most people rarely use, but a "?" people use all the time. :?
Do they ? ;-)
Sorry I have no idea, but couldn't resist.

QWERTZ keyboard layout

My O2 XDA Mini S has a QWERTZ keyboard layout, and the WM software uses QWERTY layout, thats why whwn I type using the keyboard, Ive always misused the Y with the Z, and vise versa. Also the symbols are all rumnbled into places. Is there a way I can use the QWETZ layout using the english WM, because I believe that the QWERTZ layout maybe compatible to WM German version. (I dont understant german, so I need the english version). Please help, because I dont think I can do anything with the physical layout of my keyboard so I just need a modification with the software.
you need to edit the keyboard language in the registry. the default is 0409 for english. im not sure what the german one is, but check the wiki, i'm sure you can find out some more info in there.
look at the next post, i figured it out
-Nstefanelli-
Code:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0407
You have to edit the registry, you need to change it from 0409 to the above.
Good luck.

Hi. I'm not able to safe any keys in the registry.
Done and rebooted. Edit was gone.
Maybe issue with my Registry editor?
I use the german keyboard as well. The easiest solution to that is the Registry wizard
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Upload/cabs/RegistryWizard_PPC.ARMV4.cab
There you just change the keyboard to German and done with it.
As to the other, you should always wait a couple of minutes before reboot, looks like it actually take some time for the system to write it back into the registry.
In addition, it's moire than just the one key to change.
Bye
In here any simular cab like this, but for Czech qwertz keyboard?
Thanx in advance!

But this location is not working for me
I have the same problem again....
This fix worked for me with wm5 but I just upgraded to wm6 and kb went to qwerty mode (the hardware is a qwertz).
I tried adding the above-mentioned key to the recommended location, and it did not work (that key does not initially exist on wm6).
I also found two keys: \\\registry\hkcu\keyboard layout\preload\default, and \\\registry\hkcu\keyboard layout\preload\1\default, and both of them had e0010409 as the value. I changed them both to e0010407 and tried coldboot after each (one and then both) and it still doesnt thinks its a qwerty keyboard.
Any ideas guys?

[Q] Hardware Keyboard layout

How can i change my keyboard language from english to greek . I go to menu , settings , language and keyboard , touch input , settings and the default language is only english and nothing else .I want to put there the greek language so i could write with greek with my hardware keyboard . Thank you
Sorry if this is a silly question, but does your phone have an English hardware keyboard, or a Greek one ?
My phone have an English hardware keyboard but it has an option to choose in settings for other languages to the harware keyboard and the only option in english too choose If i have other option in the greek language i choose the other language like aekmap in windows mobile
I see there's an option to select Greek for the on-screen keyboard. But as you say it only shows English for the hardware keyboard.
So you want to re-map the keys ? I'm sure there must be others with a similar requirement.
Yes i want to remap the keys Maybe with a programme maybe with root because the same phone is celling to Greece too but the HTC here did not help me !!!
I've done a quick search on google for "G1 keyboard layout" and found that those guys could edit a .bin file in /system/usr/keychars/ with hex edit and it wasn't too difficult.
How different can it be?
Dont want to hijack the thread but i had a slightly different idea.
I dont much use the Right FN, Shift and custom keys and search.
What about a script to make these Cursor Keys like the one that works on the optical pad? I saw a script to make the Optical pad pressing Wakeup the screen. I think this could be done too. I miss cursor keys that can be pressed constantly to scroll, not just with the optical pad.
Here's a thread from the G2 forums about key mapping, it might help point you in the right direction ?
