successfully change your wm5 splash - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Ok all thought id make this into a post all together. I have been reading through lots of forums looks like we can change our boot splash easily but no one has put a tutorial on how to change the windows mobile splash. Ive wanted this as well as some others that ive read well here it is.
Step 1. find an image you want any size
Step 2. convert it to 240x320 ( if you dont it will be cut to 240x320 and you wont see the whole image)
Step 3. connect your wizard through activesync and navigate to your /windows dir
Step 4. open your image in mspaint and save as png with the filename "welcomehead.96.png"
Step 5. copy that image you just renamed to your windows dir on your wizard and its gonna ask you to overwrite and click yes
Step 6. now soft reset and your image should be there.
its easy as that . Have fun

Works only with total commander !

I've just done it thru "My Computer" on my PC after connecting for ActiveSync, just as gizm0 described.
I'm pretty sure that if I had copied welcomehead.96.png to somewhere else on my PDA (eg storage card) and then used either File Explorer or Resco Explorer to overwrite the one in \windows that it would have worked.
Anyway, thanks for the info gizm0

welcomehead.96.png seems to be read-only and when i try to uncheck the read only property, it does not save the changes and stays read-only so i cant delete it neither from the phone nor activesync

ok, was able to c/p it to /windows on the wizard directly. issue resolved.

It's that i say. On the wizard directly, it does not work with file explorer...
Excuse my english.

ok fyi i dont use the original file explorer i used resco file explorer and the attributes set to that file is . hidden, system, read only
and in resco you are able to uncheck those and overwrite

That's not your splash screen. That's your windows logo. Your splash screen(s) (there are 2 in some roms) is the first image you see when you turn your device on (soft reset)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52564&start=50
^and there is a tutorial on that page on how to change it.
Later; Lew

ok well i know there was quite a bit of people wanting to change that and thx to lewcamino for the boot splash screen changes it works very well

I'm not sure about you guys, but it seems that I tend to be shown the WM5 splash/logo screen more than the ROM (very first one) splash screen.

How to change boot (splash) image?

Any ideas how to change the boot image on the prophet?
changing boot image
Got this info from PPCSG - so all credit goes to them (especially farbird). This changes the 2nd splash screen (the one with the windows logo on the blue background). The HTC/Dopod splash screen which appears after every reset is still there.
1) copy the welcome96.png file to your desktop from ppc. edit it... do not change the dimensions.
2) save that edited file as 'welcomehead.961.png' and copy it into your ppc /windows folder.
3) open total commander in ppc. go to windows folder, tap on hold on the original welcomehead.96.png, click properties, uncheck all the boxes under attributes. select ok.
4) total commander will refresh the directory, rename it now to 'welcomehead.962.png'. After that look for your edited file copied from the pc ie welcomehead.961.png.. rename it to welcomehead.96.png. after that, tap and hold and click on properties. check the box that says " read only, hidden, system "
once that is done, do a soft reboot. u should be able to see your new bootup screen after the rom version is up.
There is another way using activesync, but it didn't work for me as it gives me a write-protect error.
Do a search here @ xda-dev, u shld get the same info...
Hi,
this does not work on GER Vodafone ROM 2.15.3.26 cause welcome.96.png is in the rom part and not deletable.

Yes, that file is a ROM file and cannot be deleted. BUT if you use TotalCommander, you can rename that file to something else, rename your new splash image file to welcome.96.png, copy it to your windows folder and set its attributes to read only, system, & hidden. AND the changes will be permanent. Try it.
The reason it being a ROM file is why I was unable to copy & paste using the activesync method. But the way I did it works. Make sure you use Total Commander & not resco explorer or the built-in file explorer

Hi Pruta,
O.K., now I was able to rename welcome.96.png and replaced it with my PNG.
Softreset... Sh*t, the 'old' welcome.96.png was shown. O.K., my device wants war...it gets war .
I was able to DELETE the old (original) welcome.96.png.
Softreset... Aaaaahhhhh nothing changed!
O.K. continued search. I found a file named welcomehead.96.png, that is the same image than the original welcome.96.png.
The only prob is, I'm NOT able to rename or delete/replace it.
Are there anybody that also use the Vodafone rom and can test to change the boot image???
Attached file is welcomehead.96.png
If you can change the attributes to exclude System, and Read-Only, it should be able to change/remove it.
Hi krale,
nope. It's not possible to change the attributes. See attached MPG.
I was able to do it with total commander...
here is the link
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=71471&st=40#
thanks for the credit, Putra.
Appreciated.
Do not delete, but overwrite
@farbird: Sure, bro - after all it was your post @ PPCSG that helped me change the splash screen.
Important: do no delete the welcomehead file as it is ROM file, and it will automatically be created again. The trick is to overwrite the file with another file but with EXACTLY the same name and attributes (except ROM). So Windows will not try to create the file again.
After you change the attributes of the original welcomehead file, NO NEED to check if it has changed - Total Commander will show it as NOT changed (meaning all the check marks are still present).
Just go ahead and rename that file, then rename your splash image file to welcomehead.96.png, and set the attributes, and it should work.
I used this trick to "delete" a useless movie file: 1-nature_15fps.mp4 (274K, I think). I created an empty txt file called 1-nature_15fps.txt (0B), copied into the windows folder, performed the trick, and now I have a 1-nature_15fps.mp4 file which is 0 bytes! Just a little experiment, which may come in handy if you really need the space.
Hope the above explains things a little.

File Explorer stuck in windows folder

Hi folks,
I currently have a problem with file explorer. I opened the windows folder and now I am stuck with the time icon, I wait...and I wait... and nothing happens it freezes the phone. After a soft reset and then going back into file explorer it goes back to the folder I last looked at which is the windows folder and freezes again.. so basically I can't use file explorer anymore? Any suggestions?
Steve
Is it locking up? or does it just need more time to load and display all the contents of \windows. Can you minimize file explorer by pressing the hang up key and work on something else, then go back later to file explorer. Are you able to change directories now?
Are you using a shortcut to launch file explorer
I always use Total commander for file management and \windows does take a while to load. It too tries to open the last used directory but if the folder is not available, eg network share, it defaults to the root directory after a warning. Not the answer to your problem, I know, but Total Commander is free and it is much better featured than the standard file explorer.

Try this on a Registry Editor:
HKLM - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastLocation - 0 (zero)
Soft Reset then try to launch File Explorer again.

Thanks folks, got it working. I needed to change the registery values. The phone was freezing up and even after 10 minutes was still not showing the contents of the windows folder.
Da_mayhem just fyi I edited the localpath folder from '/windows' to '/' this seemed to solve the problem. The lastlocation value was already set to 0 for some reason?
Thanks for your help guys...

I seem to have the same Problem with my HTC Touch (non-branded, German Version). However I do not have the aforementioned registry values. There is no "file explorer" unter HKLM - Software - Microsoft.
Any Ideas on how to get my file explorer running again?
In the meantime I'm using TotalCommander, however TC doesn't support sending files via Bluetooth, or at least not that I know of. I can only send via Infrared, or am I missing something?
What is REGISTRY EDITOR? Please help me that! I m having the same problem on my XDA ORBIT ii

I know this is an old post...but after extensive searching and frustration...S.V.I fixed my issue. I just wanted to say thanks to S.V.I
I couldn't find file explorer and it was freezing...like S.V.I pointed out- it is HKCU and not HKLM.
I had done 2 hard resets...and removing "windows" from the path fixed it.
Thanks to all that posted solutions here on this great site!
Update:
Spoke to soon...I can't enter my Windows folder at all using file explorer- I could earlier. I can enter anywhere else...just not my Window folder...I can with Resco explorer. I have to apply S.V.I suggestion to stop it from freezing...but magically-"\windows" keeps re-appearing in my registry.
Update:
Found another solution that actually worked for me!
open File Explorer
Click on Menu>Sort> change it to Name
I think i know the solution
i too have experienced the same problem like this. but then this is what i do. and it's surprisingly works.
1) soft reset your phone
2) click on file explorer again
3) the loading symbol will always appear, but for now just let it be.
4) close the file explorer by tapping 'hang up' key/button. this will supposedly bring you back to home screen
5) wait for half an hour or longer
6) open file explorer
7) the windows folder loaded successfully
Typos
Ayobi's solution worked.
I have a HTC Diamond 2 WM6.5. File explorer froze as I sorted the files in the Windows folder. Exactly followed Ayobi's suggestion. Got out of the mess.
I won't visit Windows folder again!!!
Thanks Ayobi and others for their suggestions.

This definitely worked - on a related note you can go into Registry Editor (HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer) and change the SortOrder value to anything but 2 (apparently 2 is for Type). Soft reset and reload the program, and it should load a lot faster.

I had same problem, because I tried to sort Windows folder by file Type. Oops.
I know it's an old post, but here's my two cents (because this thread guided me to a slightly modified resolution.)
My resolution on Tilt2 TP2 WinMo 6.5 was found here:
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastLocation - 0 (zero)
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - LastPath - \ (slash)
HKCU - Software - Microsoft - File Explorer - SortOrder - 1
That did the trick for me. Was able to open File Explorer. Strangely, it took me to the Windows folder again; but didn't hang this time. Maybe because I skipped soft reset (so maybe registry change may not have taken effect entirely?)

Tutorial on Changing "Sprint" theme

I know someone has the the instructions on the word "Sprint" to whatever we want it to be? Can you someone help me and anybody else out and post it please. Thanks in advance!
Can someone help me with this?
Does TF3D config or advanced config tool help you?
If it does i dont know what i need to edit or what needs to be done. I know theres an expert out there.
To change the Sprint Logo you see on the upper right of the hoem tab in TouchFlo3D, you need the following:
1 - Manila Editor from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414861
2 - The file "443d5315_manila" from your \WINDOWS\ folder on your device.
Once you have the file copied over (you can use ActiveSync if on XP, and browse to the \Windows folder on your Mobile device through My Computer - just make sure you're set to show all hidden files and system files and all that stuff - if using Vista, then it's best if you use TotalCommander on your device and copy that file to another location, such as My Documents on your device, then use My Computer and browse your phone and copy it to your desktop), start up Manila Editor and select the path containing that file.
You should see the one file show up in the list (happens to be "operator_logo.qtc").
Now, on the right side, you'll actually see the logo... 256wx64h - it's a transparent PNG, so, if you make a new graphic - make sure you create a transparent PNG... Then, in Manila Editor, click "Replace" and point it to the new graphic you've made. One complete, exit, and you'll now have to copy your new "443d5315_manila" back to the \WINDOWS folder on your phone...
If using ActiveSync and showing all hidden/system/operating system files, then you should be able to browse to the \WINDOWS folder on your mobile device via My Computer... Just drag the file, and overwrite the original.
If using Vista, then copy the file back to the My Documents folder on your device, and use Total Commander on the phone to copy it into the \WINDOWS folder on your device.
NOTE: If you're using Vista with UAC enabled, you will need to run Manila Editor as an Administrator.
Hopefully this information helps you out - I just did it a few days ago and the phone looks much nicer without that harsh yellow Sprint logo (I've put my work's logo, which, conveniently enough, matches the default blue/green theme, and looks great).
I really want to try this on my Diamond but I don;t have the 443d5315_manila in my Windows folder.
Is there somewhere I can get one? At the moment it just displays the default operator text but I want to add a logo.

Want to delete a particular file from windows folder

Hey all.
I am owning a HTC Diamond. Indian Version.
when i boot my phone there is an image turning up.
i figured out to be an image called airtel_480X640.gif.
which is in my main windows folder.
i want to either delete the file or replace the pic with an vodafone image.
can anyone guide me on how to delete/replace a file which is protected in the windows folder
What about Total Commander??
But about splash screen there should be an option to change it in registry or if it is a "boot screen" then flash another one
The problem is how could you delete a file from windows folder in STOCK Rom.
I am trying to change the welcomeahead.192.png without any success.
Use Advanced Config.
Under HTC Animation settings, select the first option: Startup GIF file.
Change the path under this setting to the path of the image you want as the startup image, but remember, it should be a gif image.
Keep the image in the phone memory preferably, so that it can load without any delay at the time of the startup.
After pressing 'Done', soft-reset the device.

A thumbnail would be fine
You can upload a thumb to tinypic.com or else
Thanks for sharing
Here's the Thumbnail.
But do you have a tip for me? i copied the screen to my windows folder. i'm getting asked if i want to overwrite it. i agree, but if i reboot my x1 i don't see my new screen
Check
It appears that (like desktop Windows) the Xperia performs a check on boot of the file details. If the file is deemed "corrupted" it is replaced by the original from an unknown location.
Since you file quite likely does not match a hash check, or possibly is saved in the wrong format, it gets replaced.
I had this problem and as of yet have been unable to make an image that the device will accept.
yeah must be some kind like this but i want to have my own startupscreen!!
