Anyone got an old SMS tone - like the old Nokia phones have ?
Cheers
Mark
You mean the 'beep-beep, beep-beep' one? If so I think I might have a midi of it somewhere...

Could easily make your own with e.g. Audacity...
Generate > Tone...
Waveform: Sine
Frequency: 1750Hz
Amplitude: 1.0
Length: 0.1s
End key
Generate > Silence...
Length: 0.1s
End Key
Generate > Tone...
( Next bit is if you use a repeating sound for text messages only. )
Generate > Silence...
Length: 0.5s
Hold shift and press the play button for repeat play
beep-beep .. beep-beep .. beep-beep
Obviously you can easily change the tone of the beeps, the pause between the two, the pause before playing again, and the volume, by just varying any of the above.
File > Export as WAV...
beepbeep.wav
Copy "beepbeep.wav" to your PocketPC's Windows folder.
You can now pick it as the tone for your incoming text messages.
One note of warning - these simple sine waves play back very well on the tiny speakers, so expect them to be quite *loud*.
Further notes: you can probably use lower sampling rates/bits, and even save as an mp3.
Result of the above steps is attached.
Mark, try this one. Took the original Nokia 'Message' tone and converted it to .wav. Then ran it through Audacity (thanks for the walkthrough, ZeBoxx, very useful) to up the volume a little and tweak the speed.
Sounds pretty good IMHO and is now my text message tone of choice. Hope it's what you were looking for too.
Cheers
PS I know it's too big but I don't have enough skill to reduce it, sorry. ZeBoxx???
Alt SMS Tone
I use the attached intel ditty, seems a good one for SMS and no-one else uses it
Until now !!! but I know we users are a select bunch, so no worries
Hays
Here's the morse code type one, using Audacity.
These "classic" tones are great. Does anyone know of a site that might have more?
I'd be particularly interested in .imy tones from Motorola phones. They're kind of like midi files in that they only contain musical notes rather than digital sound.
Cheers Guys - mucho appreciated
These are just what I need - plain & simple (and also loud) tones.
Thanks
Mark

Pretty easy
Click on the down arrow next to the Message2 track title
pick "Split Stereo Track"
close one of them ([X] button on the left of the track)
Click on the down arrow next to the Message2 track title again
Pick "Mono"
Size is cut in half now
Then select the bunch of silence at the end - WM5 doesn't repeat the SMS sound ('repeat' option is disabled), so there's no use in that pause being there..
..therefore, hit Del.
Now save again, and you should get pretty much the attached file.
Audacity is really great for this - you can easily add tremolo/echo/fades/etc. and get nice and clear, loud (due to the simple wave form), distinctive tones.
Of course it's not as 'hip' ( do they say that anymore ? ) as the latest $5 RealTone from Jamster!, but I say: screw that.

Hey all just got some questions regarding my O2 XDA-II mini:
Firstly, how do you set a background properly? I've got the mode as 640x480, but when I try and set the today background the picture is too big and the opacity is really light and it doesn't auto-size to fit as the background. And if I try and set it a different way, the pictures comes up but it's too small, but clear. Any other ways to fix this?
And with messaging, is there a way I can have my own custom SMS receive tone? I want to record a tone from my computer and set that as my SMS receive tone, anyone know how to do that?
Cheers!
Anyone?!
Come on... i'm sure some people on this forum can help me?!?!?!
Duffman, did you look around for this info?
I don't use this kind of stuff, but I understand that MortRing does this - infact, the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20711&highlight=mortring is called "MortRing - ringtones and SMS sounds per contacts/category".
Also this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=mortring
is called "SMS Ringtones?" and says
as far as i know you can only use .wav format audio....... if you have something you want to use, then copy the files into your /windows directory, dont put them in seperate folder, just into /windows
then when you select all your different sms alerts, you can see the files you placed in the directory , in the list to select.....

Re the background image. How are you getting 640x480? Using nydiot or something? Normal magician is 320x240. I don't use a background image, but I think it doesn't stretch to fit the background, it just tiles them, so you need a background image of the correct size to begin with.

i got a new problem now - when i push the 'record' button on the side of my phone it does not bring the recoridng menu/folder up! why is this?!?! thanks..
ok i got a few problems with my phone now which i'm pretty angry and confused about:
1) when i push the screen on button, it takes around 1 second or more to actually turn the screen on. why does it take so long, it didnt take that long before?
2) my record function is f*ked!!! when i push the 'record' button on the side of the phone it doesnt bring up the folder/menu like it used to. and when i record things now and try and play it - it wont play!! but i can play previous recorded stuff. for example
TEST
Record1
when i click on test, it plays. but when i click on Record1 there is no play button, and when there is the play button, it plays the 'TEST' file, or the last file that i have played. wtf is wrong?
please help me people!!! i havent even had this phone for a week!
ok ive managed to fix that problem. now i have a problem when i start my camera by pushing the 'camera' button. it takes about 30 seconds to load the damn thing and freezes the screen while its at it. why is this? it never used to have this problem? its a great phoen but recently i'm running into a lot of bloody problems with it!!!

You seem to answer most of your own posts..............
There seems to be lots of free and open source text to speach code out there: http://sig.levillage.org/?p=551
So, wouldnt it be cool to have your universal say 'Incoming call from <contact name>' instead of your usual ring tone? It gets right around the problem of having to open up the screen to see who is calling.
It would also be a great gimick for people with other phones too. Talking ring tones havent even been done by Nokia yet. 8)

There is the Fonix range which can read your email, but I don't know whether it'd be able to read your SMSes too.
Not to be a stick-in-the-mud, but why would you want SMS-to-Speech?
"Dot Dot Dot Forwardslash dot dot dot Open Bracket dot dot dot", and that's just the first line of one of those cutesy smsses. Or the ones where each letter is converted into it's visual brother, but with umlauts and all the other diacritical marks (accents, breves, circumflexes, spiritus and hooks)? To the english speaking person, the letter "ß" looks like a funky "B", but in germanic, it's an 's" sound.
And "Ur th bst 1 n da wrld" (not a good example, but you get the idea) does not translate well if not heavily interpreted first.
It'd be a "neato" feature, which you'd uninstall after a day's usage.
Can Microsoft Voice Command read up a contacts name and tell me that?
.. Microsoft Voice Command is it worth buying?
Messed around with MS voice command a bit.. havent been using it much before because I dont need the features much over the built in thing. I tried turning on the announce incoming phone calls option, but its really soft. (Far too soft to hear). The normal ring tone plays for a second, then goes soft and I assume the voice command is trying to speak after that, but its too soft to hear, even with the phone next to my ear.
I agree, I love the Voice command function that tells you who's calling but yes it is way to quiet so I usually turn it off, it needs to be load and not trying to swap between the ringtone and voice command telling you the person who's calling. So yes a specific program to do this as a ring tone would be great.
Interesting thread. This is a great idea, but I have to say, MSVC does the job so well, it's probably not worth expanding beyond there. However, I'm looking into a general text to speech solution for PPC.
Our best bet is flite, which is a relatively large install and doesn't sound very good.
However, an easy way for you to start thinking about this is to check out the app WordBook. I think it installs a version of the Flite dll. You can copy text and get it to speak it straight back to you. The speech is quite poor quality, but it gives you an idea. Now I imagine you can access this externally, and so you can intercept SMS, calls etc and get it text to speeched.
However, since MSVC is installed in traditional SAPI form, it should also be externally accessible.

Voice Command
I have just tried the demo of Voice Command on universal, but i couldnt get button on bluetooth headset to activate it. Also it would be nice if the caller name being read out would be good over the bluetooth headset.
Can and of the genius's on this site create such a programe. Or anyone know of any other programmes.
Using the phone in clam mode means you dont know whos calling, and as i use my bluetooth headset all the time, it would be nice to know whos calling.
Thanks in advance
Tim
timha: there are about 90 threads on the VC+Clam issue. Non successful, but helpful...

I dont know about that. Have you tried using the announce incoming calls option? On my universal, no matter what settings I try, its simply impossible to hear what VC is saying while the phone is ringing. So for me, VC definately doesnt seem to be doing the job very well at all.
Has anybody been able to get VC to properly announce the caller ID?
No VC is to quiet, so useless
Aaah, ok, I don't use my universal as a phone, and just remember it from the Magician, when it would announce calls. I think there's a thread around trying to resolve this issue though.
V
Voice Command has a known problem of being extremely quiet on the Universal.
Somewhere on this site there is a fix CAB file that ostensibly makes the volume higher. I hadn't found a major difference, but look for it and try.
The announce works best if you turn the ringtone off and use annouce only (make sure your normal volume - not ringing volume - is turned way up)
No good, its still very soft. Having the volume on full is also quite a hindrance, since you have to keep turning it up and down all the time. As they said back in November, we'r going to have to wait on an update to make voice command properly compatible with WM5. There doesnt seem to be any move by Microsoft to actually do this, though.
Strange that nobody has really used voice caller ID on the Universal before - it seems the obvious choice for a ring tone to me on a phone like this.
The hack for increasing sound - never tried it, but it involves, IIRC, changing the attentuation type in the notification settings.
V
Hi.
I only have Voice Commander. Is it different from MSVC? I keep looking for the announce incoming calls but couldnt find it. Voice Commander has been in my phone when I bought it so I just use what's available but it gives me so much headache. When I say "Call John", it gives me several names that dont even sound close to John. Grrr! I even put tags on the names individually but my VC is so deaf! Is it because of my bluetooth headset, VC or is it the phone's fault?
thanks
I've been using this for a couple of years now:

Type your message, pick and voice and download the WAV
Nice and easy and works VERY well so check it out

aside from microsoft voice command; what i use is mortring...i'm sure you guys are familiar with this app...it allows you to assign ringtones and sms sounds to individuals in your contacts. using the xda's microphone, i made my own ringtones by recording either my voice or someone else's. example; i deal with a lot of raw material suppliers and i get calls all the time. when this guy working for a foundry calls me up; the sound i recorded goes "mr. johnson is calling". for others whom i've developed good relationships with, i asked if i could record their voice and use it as a ringtone....so if my supplier from an aluminum die caster calls my xda goes "hi robson, this is ch lim". sms' are easy since you can do the same and assign them for that particular contact. when i receive and sms, my xda goes "text message from ____". for the people who call me that are not in my contacts list; the default ringtone i've set sounds off. this is very convenient for me when i'm driving or the like, no need to look at the phone and simply activate the bluetooth headset.
you don't really have to go and search the net for ringtones all the time; you can use the xda's recorder to actually make them. the format output is in .wav file. for text to speech for sms, i agree that would be a very interesting feature...flite is a good app...perhaps vijay can link up something for sms? but then that would probably violate the license thingee for flite...

I searched the registry, found nothing, searched through some folders and found nothing either.
So as the subject says, is it possible to change these types of sounds? I've got some great sounds in mind. E.g. the sonic the hedgehog ring, for this event in particular.
... For new text I have the sonic 2 - 1 up sound
If you could help that would be great!
Hay there, yep this can be done, thou first you need the new message or notifcation clip to be a .wav file type, so you need to convert the items to wav first.
Once you done that place the newly converted wav file into the windows folder, not into windows>rings like you would do for ringtones.
Then goto settings, and notifcation and sound menu and select the new one there.
Hope this helps.
Ooo
I've been trying to figure this out, how could I change the sound that plays in my ear for callwaiting? lol i feel stupid because I can't figure this out!!!
Thanks!
Yup, I am not too happy in this realm as well. My busy tone sounds like a Modem that is trying to handshake, and that is when it decides that it is going to alert me. I would really like to swap out some of that stuff.
I beleive my expertise will come in handy here
There are many sounds which can be changed which ARE NOT visible in the "Sounds And Notifications" control panel. They can be accessed by pointing your reg editor of choice to...
"HKey_Current_User\ControlPanel\Sounds"
We'll take the busy tone as an example...
Navigate to "HKey_Current_User\ControlPanel\Sounds\BusyTone"
In there you'll see:
(Default)..................(value not set)
Catagory..................InCall
Script.......................apr
Sound......................HTCBusy.wav
Change the sound one to any file on your pda. (Must be an mp3 or a wave file) (Include the full path if the sound file isn't in "/windows") The changes should take effect immediately, if they don't you've not done it correctly...
Hope this helps you all...
Note: To my knowledge, you can't change the message sent tone, sorry...

I KNOW. there are many threads about this.
As you might agree with, the ring tone volume is one of the worst things with this phone.
I've looked everywhere for an anser to this question but they just keep complaining, not explaining.
The Xperia ringvolume is too low and i'd realy like some one to tell me how to fix this. Both in multimedia and when it rings.
I've tried the AudioPara3 and the SRS and neither worked.
please...
The volume on mine is plenty loud, you sure it's not the ringtones you are using? I have heard of people damaging the speaker with excessively loud sounds being played through it.

This is what half the peaple say
It depends on what you are use to.
My very old k500i is about the same as the Xperia but my last phone and the one before that (k850i, k800i) felt like more than double the volume of the xperia.
With the k850i i listend to some music once while driving the car and i had volume 7/10 and it was REALY loud and clear but now with the xperia i have it on max volume and it's barley hearble.
I know the speaker could do better because i tried converting a song with 600% volume and it realy went louder without any distortion at all.
I don't want to do this to every song i want to listen to since i have about 800 of them...
What baffles me most is the freaggin' speaker location. The handset is designed for right-handed use. However, the speaker broadcasts sounds on the left side of the handset (with slide closed). Therefore, it's easy to muffle any sound broadcast from the handset if cupped with the left hand. The scenario proves the same if trying to converse in speakerphone mode. You constantly need to re-adjust your hand in order to not muffle the sound.
I would agree that the speaker volume is softer the most SE handsets. I still have my 3 yr old P990i around which utilizes the same incoming call wave file. There is a very significant (at least 2:1) difference in volume between the two.

You can find some useful information there. On most of the threads I have been through, most of the people recommend OPTXperiabeta02.cab.. Will try to find a link to download and post it here.. But, I haven't tried it myself yet, so don't kill me if it damages your speaker.. People who have used it said that they had to decrease the volume, so I would advice you to do the same
OPTXperiabeta02.cab here
I used this fix posted in another thread before.
IT Works GREAT, the volume is a lot higher than before!
It's called optxperia beta version 2 from http://ixperia.ru/soft/winmobile/51-opt-xperia.html
hope it helps!
Where can you find the app after you have installed it? Can't find it either in programs, nor in settings.. And it doesn't seem like the sound have improved any..
I find that cranking up the System Volume (not just the Ring Volume!) is a must when using mp3's as ringtone... otherwise it's v. quiet.
It should have prompted you for a reset after installing the app.
It can be found in settings -> remove programs -> it's called Auanti by Davide Gialli OptXperia
I just installed this and....wow, this may be too loud..lol good find. thanks a lot.

I removed it, and downloaded it from another site, and that one prompted for a soft reset. But I was just wondering whether you can edit the options (HOW much loader, if it only works when you receive calls, or also playing music, etc.)..? I found it on the location you posted, but there I can only remove it When I woke up this morning, the alarm sounded much higher than before, I had to turn the volume down, so I think its working quite well
Be careful with that cab - it does a fair few things:
1. Replaces 3d driver
2. Adds HTCAPI.dll to Windows (used by some 3d apps)
3. Replaces audiopara3 files (controls volume amongst other things)
4. Amends the threaded SMS layout
5. Replaces MMS settings
6. Turns off SIP autodeploy
7. Amends RAM cacheing etc.
8. Amends SD read settings
9. Changes Wifi g settings.
I'm sure they're all improvements on someone's ROM, somewhere but may end up messing up yours.
Seriously, get yourself MSCEInf and analyse these before installing - it's an extremely useful program. The only part you need is the audiopara3 csv files...

Ok so definately increases volume?, but does that result in noticeable lack of quality? (ie do louder tones sound bad)
Would it be possible to install this after flashing to Touch it or Touch X rom for example? or would that be incompatible?
thanks

Hey Guys, How are you all doing, hope all is well at your end.
Since I got my DHD, I'm Suffering to find descent quality Ringtones, they are so lame and poor, that made me COMPOSE These!
-----------------------
I have created some Exquisite Ringtones for myself using my Musical Gear and Keyboard, and people started asking about these Tones, and I used to Proudly reply them back with
"These are My Compositions"
Since many people liked them, I thought that I should share it with my XDA Community.
All composed and created using superior quality, and has been amplified as well, to cover for the Low Volume Syndrome (lol) of the Desire HD, except for Rooted users with modified Kernels that has increased Volume levels.
Some Info:
1. Average file size = 500 KB
2. Average file Length = 28 Seconds
3. Various Genres for various tastes
4. I gathered them into an Album to make it easier to find them
5. Album Name = Limited Desire HD Ringtones
6. If you like a Full Version of Specific Tone, I mean the Full-Length Song, then just ask for it
7. I have given each tone a NAME, its basically the name of the Full Length file
8. Encoding Info = MP3, 128 KB Avg. Stereo
9. Tones can be used as ringtones, Alarm tones, or generally Notifications
10.Included 2 SMS, Shorter tones, if you Like!
Installation instructions:
Create the following directory structure on your SD Card root folder (all lower case):
media/audio/notifications
media/audio/ringtones
Put the mp3's in these folders, depending on whether you want to use it as a ringtone or notification sound. Go to Settings -> Sound & Display -> "Phone ringtone" or "Notification sound". Your newly added mp3's should now be available for selection in those lists :
Final Suggestion:
Just listen to them using your Stereo Headphones first, you will be able judge better which one you like more, if at all (lol).
Feedback are more than welcome
Wael
Thanks!
Thanks. There are some very nice ones here.
Forgot to say
If you want to be able to easily find all the tones and not spread-ed among the default ones, then try to rename them like the attached photo, just a suggestion.
You can use Rename Master (FREE) to do that!!
Thank you!
Thanks!! They are perfect. I really liked "Rock you" and "Rock 'n Roll".
May I have full length versions of those?
Will do my best to upload them asap.
thanks dude awesomeness
Thank you, very nice.
Thanks
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
These tunes aire brilliant
Very nice tones but I would never use them as a ringtone or notification, it's too much. Also my ringtone position has been filled long time ago Moorea
Thanks. It's great~
I'm glad that I could contribute to XDA, and happy that you guys liked them.
Will upload some new ones soon.
Blesses to all of you !
Thans! already using them!
