As far as I know, and after searching for a themes player myself, I discovered there are no free or free to try players. $15 and up. If my memory serves me correctly, the company who provides theme player programs is "wasp". Google to find more.
A little more help
Well i searched a lot on google, but unfortunately couldn't find the required thing (mayb im too bad, but not that much). All i find relative was "Wasp Barcode Technologies Wasp Mobile Asset Desktop" , "wasptech.com" but they make something else or mayb im missing something. Are u sure this one is the thing i want, i mean which plays gif as a background. Moreover could u tell anything which can set html page as background. Kindly please guide me.
aaah i get something its netwasp. U know wen i searched for wasp themes player....etc i got nothing but wen i searched 4 exactly "theme player programs" then i got that
very close to wat i want, as the theme generator can import gif, ive once saw them b4 but left as they may b heavy. Well a simple standalone gif only background animator would b the best 4 me
try "animated today"
no one is exactly understanding me . Animated today and FlashTheme Player are same and FlashDash and FlashThemes Pro are same. Both use Flash Player which is much resource taking and even wen it uses gif u need a theme generator for it and its so unreal. Wat i need is just as u simply set a jpeg as background u could set an animated gif.
well as i understang it, you cannot set a jpeg to animate. you need a series of jpegs and then convert it to a .gif file, there are programs to do this, then you can use todaygif to set it on your screen

I know that, not a stupid . U didn't actually understood me. I ve searched every where and i dont need any today PLUGIN or any Flash based themes, thats what my topic clearly states. What i was saying, meant that a program that enables u to set animated gif just like the way we usually use to set jpeg, bmp... pictures by default as background in the ppc.

I think Ive got what you're asking for below in the attached cab files. Install both, preferrably to main memory. The HTC gif player is what actually animates the gifs. The other cab is a gif to get started. If your today screen is cluttered ie: battery status, launches, etc., only smaller gifs can be played...80x80 or under. On the other hand, if nothing is on your today screen, you can animate gifs 128x128 and up to 240x320. You can go to www.funformobile.com and download any size animation you want for your background. After the cabs have been installed, go to your Today settings, click "items", and check the box by GIF Today, click o.k., the gif should appear. After you've downloaded animations from the above website, click the right side of the animation on the today screen, a box pops up, click "confg", tap on the parameter boxes to put your larger animation in its place. I created a folder in my SD memory, named it Today GIFs, and the animations I downloaded were saved to that folder. Sure hope I'm understanding your wants, and this helps!

The GIF on my today screen is the gif taken from your attached zip file. It is actually animated on my today screen by the HTC Gif player whose download file I've attached in this thread. The player will animate pictures when you tap on them anywhere in the directory..not just the Today screen.

Here's an app that lets you see all your pictures and photos as a slideshow on the Today screen. After installation, go to Today settings, items, checkmark the box by PHM pictures, highlight name, options, set to your choosing.

One more from Mad Dr. Jekyll.....
I found this great program online a few days ago thats very good for (especially for noobys) at allowing you to customize icons right on your ppc. Ive tried it extensivley with .png icons that is use for my iFonz screen. All you need to do is copy and paste the icon you want to customize into My Documents/My Pictures, and bring up the PaintApp. You can zoom in to single block view which in my opinion makes customizing extremely easy. It also has a feature which alows you to resize your icons simply by entering in the size desired. If your creative enough, choose your size, and make one from scratch. This program is also just fun to use. Below is the .cab file for the program. This is great for people who have no experience making icons.
Tip, use something simple like a blank calendar or calculator icon as your base if you want to make a completley new icon. It makes it easier to know the outline of what you want.
Hope you enjoy this. I do.
it looks great
thank you so much for bringing this nice prog here
cheers

Could you go into detail on what you do to customize your icons? I use iFonz also and I would Love to fix my own iPhone icons to work with iFonz...
Details
Here's some details like you asked for in the second reply. Im just going to tell you what I use it for. First, to make changes to an icon, copy it to My Pictures located in My Documents. That's the only folder it reads. When you install the app the first time you run it, it will give you an option 4 a tutorial mode. Do it. Anyway.. Once you bring up whatever icon you chose, you have all sorts of options. You can change the color , the size, everything . Then save it. Go bak and copy/paste it back 2 the original folder or wherever you want and there you go. Also , my favorite, you can create your own icon from scratch. Just select the option to create a new file or image, whatever its called. Then choose the option to chae the size. Set it to whatever size you want, 44x44 , 42x42, and have at it. Just mess around and you'll figure out how to make them rounded like the default icons. Now here's a tip to make this easier. If you want to make you own custom icon, copy and paste a realy simple, almost blank default icon, like the calendar icon or the stock lines icon to My Pictures. open it up in the program. use your zoom feature too zoom in pretty close. Select the paintbrush, use white and erase everything inside the icon except the Main outline. This way you have a border to go by and keep it the same shape and size. That's what I do and it works great. Another great feature is being able to cut and paste images from one to another. Just take any image, ( I used a Yahoo! image from the web) , save it to My Pictures , and open it in the program. Change the size to 1 less or the same as the icons your using. Then select the cut option , outline the image the select the 'cut to clipboard' option. Next choose the open option, (dont save chaes when it asks), open the icon you want to use as an outline, or whatever icon you want to put the image on. Paste the image to the icon and then zoom in and use your tools to touch it up. I've made google, yahoo msn, hundred icons that look great! Its really simple. You've just got to play around. Its just a paint app like on you desktop, on your ppc! Its zoom feature just makes it so easy to work on icons. Im posting this from my vogue, so sorry if spelling and puctuation aren't perfect. Ill post some of my icons tomorrow for u to check out. hope you enjoy. and post any icons you come up with guys!
Thanks! ima give it a try =)
i have 2 quick questions...hope u guys can help...
1)is there a way i can improve the quality of the wallpaper i set... the pics i use as wallpaper r super fine but the when i set them as my background the look like it was taken with a cheap camera...
2) When i remove some apps on my wing some time i still have this ugly icon that does notting... n its bugging the hell out of me...i tried everything i can u get rid of this left-behind icons but there still the...n advise???
wallpaper- try setting the wallpaper through the file explorer. this will allow you to set the transparency. I'm assuming by "cheap camera" you mean the grey overlay thing.
icons- connect your device to activesync and explore it to device>windows>start menu. delete the unwanted icons.
thanks i got thouse ugly icons off but the wallpaper problem is still the ... its not the trasperacy ....for example do n look for a nice pic of what ever u want on ur ppc n the click on it n set it as ur background now go look @ it on ur home screen... i doent look so nice does it...
Same thing here. When i set the wallpaper (using a file explorer) the image looks like it's converted to 16 colors or something. It's far from sharp en perfect as when i look at it on my pc or with my favourite imageviewer.
Same problem here

I have WM5 and when setting an image as wallpaper the image looks bad on the today screen. How did you guys fix this?
The default images from the themes are showing fine. Only when trying to change the image I have this issue.
Thanks
After flashing my X1, I just noticed that the original background is in fact 2 different pictures, one optimized for landscape and the other for portrait mode. How can you do this manually? Neither WM nor the Picture Viewer nor Resco Photo seem to provide such a functionality... Would be nice to know, because it's hard to find a picture that fits both modes and still looks nice...
If you're talking about the SE-Panels, here you go

I'm not I'm talking about the Today-"Panel".
if you're talkin about standard winmobile today you have no way to specify 2 different background In fact you will always have 1 image, with some parts showed or not depennding on screen orientation
If you're searching for a good theme maker I suggest you themegenCE
Exactly, landscape is showing only part of the picture which is used for portrait.
Incorrect
It is actually two seperate images.
On the today screen using the Xperia_black theme. I have in portrait Xperia written in the middle with thin spectral line vertically down.
On horizontal, Xperia is on bottom right, with wide horizontal spectrum.
Clearly two different images. So why is there not a way to do this manually, which is what the OP is getting at I think.
This can be done manually, I can't remember the exact names of the files but under the windows folder there are 2 files stwater_480x800.bmp stwater_800x480.bmp, if you replace these you can have 2 independent pictures.
When you change the today theme these files get replaced, I think there is some software available which will let you create a tsk with 2 pictures, but I just find it easier to replace the files.
That's what I've been thinking about. alias_neo, you're totally right.
So but now, assuming I find the files and replace them, the update will not happen directly, will it? Perhaps it would take a Softreset. Is there a workaround to go without Softreset?
My Xperia is bit weird, just a couple of days ago, I found out that when I change the background in Portrait mode,
only the Portrait background will change. Then I slide the keyboard out, and change the background again,
then only the Landscape background changes. And I must say, I like it
I think its a bug or something?
I have a solution for this: Use Resco Photo Viewer. You can set the background image in this program. Set in once in portrait mode, then switch to landscape mode and set it again. This produces 2 separate backgrounds. It works without any trouble. Changes rapidly on kb-slideout, no problem. Looks great, do it!
This may be insanely easy to figure it, I presume it is all on my naivete regarding Android 2.2.
My hd2, as most here, is 4.3" at 480x800. I have found a few wallpapers I liked on google images and have resized them appropriately. Yet, when go to set said photo as wallpaper, it only lets me select a small portion of it and that portion is then grainy/blurred at the new resolution.
I did try finding exactly 480x800 wallpapers just to see if that was a problem, yet it only lets me select that small portion of the total image.
My question is, how do I get a 480x800 image and a superb quality, to be set as wallpaper in its entirety over my home screens without only getting just a portion or that portion being stretched to said blurriness?

thank you for the reply.
You can resize the selection box...
There is a free market app called zedge that lets you download free wallpaper and ringtones. There is a lot of cool stuff in there. Try it out.
I use Zedge, select the Evo as my phone and go crazy.
When you select your wallpaper, press on the outside of the box and drag it out in order to use the entire image.
