I have a O2 wallaby that failed in a radio upgrade and no matter how many times i try to flash it always fails to upgrade. I have read all the topics on this ,so pls dont advise me with referals. My question is that the wallaby refuses to hold a charge, yet functions perfectly ( minus the phone part ) when connected to a power source, so i was thinking that i could use this for tom tom only for my girlfriend, as she could get lost in a one way street  anyway my question is can i use this wallaby with a wired gps unit as tom tom alone. Or is the radio an integral part of this. Also as a matter of interest ,how did the power charging get affected by trying to upgrade the radio? Is the radio unit an integral part of the power circuit? Tnx for reading this and any comments will be greatly received

Depends on what GPS unit you're using - bluetooth on Xda requires the phone to be working as controlled by radio functions. You should be ok with a wired gps unit though - hope this helps.
Wired GPS
Thanks for the reply.....But as far as i recall bluetooth isnt even available on a wallaby, so the only option is to use a wired gps anyway.Just wanted to know if its worth the bother as basically as soon as it powers down i have to reinstall tom tom when it restarts, because of the power circuit being broke along with the radio stack

At least i've modified the Arkon support and now i've the GPS sensor connected via RS232 to my Qtek. It's working! And now?
What the better program to use in the car? Tom Tom? Destinator?
Support autorouting?
Any suggestion?
Thanx... M.
I use TomTom 3 with their own bluetooth GPS. Works great!!!
Additionally I use Checkpoint v3.2 (freeware) which is a great complement for TomTom (http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/)
I tried Destinator 3 last month, but returned very quick to TomTom. I didn't like it at all.

Transportable GPS solution
Oggi - I see you use TomTom BT/Jabra BT250. Do you have any issues using the headset in the car at the same time as GPS? And does the TomTom BT GPS have a replaceable battery pack? Wouldn't want to throw the whole thing out when the rechargeable battery had had its chips...
I am currently considering buying a GPS. Software-wise, TomTom 3 seems pretty good to me, but I want to be able to use GPS in any car and don't want anything fitted permanently. Seems to me that the options are:
1. Get a BackPack, use SD slot for map storage and CF slot for plug-in GPS
2. Wait until GlobalSat adds memory to its SD-501 SDIO GPS http://www.easydevices.co.uk/products.asp?partno=EDGSATSD501 and use just the one slot for both functions
3. Bluetooth GPS - but I have seen in this forum many issues regarding simultaneous pairing of 2 BT devices, and I don't want to lose phone functionality, as mentioned above!
4. Bearing in mind that even a BT GPS needs power (and therefore a cable), bite the bullet and go for a wired GPS.
Any thoughts/experiences/other ideas would be welcome...

I had problems when I used ROM-version 1.52.00, but now I use 1.66.00 and it works great for me. My version on the Jabra BT-250 headset is "48B". I don't use the Pocket Bluetooth Tools (http://bluetooth.i-networx.de/index_e.html), just the TomTom GPS driver v3.03 and normal pairing of the devices.
Tips: Don't choose to assign a virtual COM-port when pairing the BT-GPS (unless you really need this). This had a negative performance effect on the display speed of the maps on my device.
I also have a wired GPS, but a bluetooth GPS offers many more options. When you leave the car you can easily continue to navigate by foot. TomTom can even optimize the trip for walking.
The TomTom BT GPS-kit comes with a small dockingstation where you can place and charge the GPS in your car. Pretty smart
The battery holds for about 6 hours on a full charge, which is quite enough for me.
I don't know if you can change the battery in the bluetooth GPS.

The TomTom BT GPS does not have a user replaceable battery pack. It's made by Leadtek and their latest model the 9537 does.
Forget a CF or SD GPS, they don't perform as well as a wired or BT GPS. I use a BT headset and BT GPS without any problems. Most BT GPS will last for a min 6hrs on battery and some 12hrs+. Having said that, if you don't intend using it out of the car get a wired version, simpler and less issues although BT is pretty solid now.

TomTom in their infinite wisdom decided to discontinue the GPS cradle for their BT unit and it's no longer available even as an option
TOM TOM 3
does any body klnow if TomTom3 has a map for Canada? Please...
Appreciate your help with info...
No, TomTom do not have any Canada coverage, the best option would be Alk's CoPilot.
Griffog
Thanks for your helpful advice.
I am leaning towards the BT option now, but Leadtek rather than TomTom. I want to use the system in both my own and my wife's car (the family long-distance-mobile) but I know she would have a fit if I expressed a wish to wire anything into it. Even a cradle would probably induce an apoplexy (doesn't matter, she can hold the xda2 for 200 miles, no sweat!)
Cheers again, mate

No probs, if you're looking at the Leadtek 9537, just to complicate things! Rikaline also re-badge it as the GPS-6030 oh and Delorme have just released a version that has a logging facility called the DeLorme Earthmate Blue Logger GPS.
Hi, Firstly thank's for posting the unlock code's for Xda 2 , very good , However i use the 3 network ( somebodys got to) and it is still locked , so i,m using my old pay as you go sim, but that's not the prob, when using tomtom 5 (and 3) and i get a call come through tom tom freezes up and will only work again after a soft restart , has any body else suffered the same or know of any fix's????? Cheer's in anticipation steve.

Tom Tom 5 and XDA 2
I recently upgraded from TT3 to TT5, the only real problem I get is the phone ringer and caller display does not ring or display propperly.
My Jabra BT250 is slow in responding and answering when the button is pressed.
One other bugbare is not being able to see the Start Menu Bar when running TT5 as unable to see if you have a phone signal or received a text or missed a call.
Any help on these matters would be greatly apprecieated.
Thanks

It seem's every xda has different problem's , when my phone ring's it do's take a second to ring in the BT headset and about another second when the button is pressed to answer the call , and i get a balloon come up to say who is calling but i think that is part of Fonix voice dial. Icannot see away round including the start menu while running tt5 or 3 , so does tom tom freeze when you get a call or change phone arials??, sorry i could'nt be any more help

I have been using TT3 extensively past year and recently upgraded to TT5.
No real issues.
THE issue with TT3 was that when my BT GPS was out of reach and i started TT3, it almost locked up my whole device (had to soft-reset). I found out is has something to do with my BT GPS. Aparantly WM2003SE does not have this issue.
next to this, I noticed frequent freezes IF I had actoivated POI. Tested this with several (also Toshiba and Panasonic made) SD Cards.
With TT5 these problems are gone.
The only thing I noticed when using TT5 is when I try to start a phne call the display is not properly build up: all except the numbered buttons are there.
No freezes whatsoever here anymore.
All in all still an improvement.
Tom tom 5 icm socket/emtac gps
I upgraded to ttn5 but cant get my gps to fix
emtac BT gps
in Bt menu my pairing is ok, but when I select a ' other BT gps ' it doesnt recognise it.
The options are BT on com 6 (but I dont have a com6)
or com9 or com2
any Ideas how to activate those com ports ?
Thanx

@pleun: Where do we find this patch (searched for it but no results) and what does it do?
Advice
I'm considering buying TT5 but am a bit concerned about all the problems people are having. I noticed on tomtom's website it is compatible with the XDA 2. Would it be best to buy this package as it all comes complete on an SD card tomtom have tested, or, go for TT3 - people are selling these on ebay really cheap??
TT5 and XDA2
I am running TT5 with the GB Plus map on the XDA2 without any problems.
You must use a BT or serial GPS connection. Get a good mount which has a RJ11 connector for the TT serial GPS or use a Y cable for something like the HAICOM PS2.
XDA2 512 SD
SIN MERGED
RADIO 1.8
WM2003SE
it makes com 5 visible to tomtom.
i just bought a bt gps off ebay. i searched for devices and added it but when i go to use tom tom it does not pair it fails i heard this could be due to the bt software on the fone and it could need updateing but please could some one clarify this for me as i am lost and need it for work. cheers in advance.
Can we have a bit more info please like make of device, version of the TomTom software you are trying to use the GPS device with etc?
Can anyone help with this,
I have an O2 Exec (Latest O2 ROM etc)
I have a Bluetooth GPS & Bluetooth Headset, when using the GPS, if a call comes in I can answer it on the headset, but the GPS goes all screwy, starts losing position, even after the call is ended the GPS is erratic
I have installed Buzzs Bluetooth Patch, and no effect,
Its a bit of a pain if I can't use a Bluetooth headset and GPS at the same time.
Anyone had this and found a cure?.
EXEC, Details are
1.13.82 WWE
11/30/05
1.04.02
42.37.P8
1.13.118 WWE
Help appreciated
Thanks
Richard
Richard im on the same rom as you but without the bt patch and ive no problems
alix776,
I will try it again later on, I had the problem before I installed the patch, so I installed it to see if it cured it, but it didn't
I will do a hard rest later and start from scratch again, see if that helps,
I didn't have any problems using the same BT Headset on an XDA 2i, so assumed it would work ok on the EXEC, the only change to the setup is the GPS unit, I am using a really cheap and cruddy £30 jobbie off ebay (Its only 8 Ch, and seems a bit flaky!),
I will have a new Sirf3 unit arriving in a few days, so can try that to see if the problem is with the cheap BT GPS!.
I need to get a solution sorted in the next 10 days before going back to work in the US, or I will have to take the TTOne with me if I can't get this setup working 100%
Cheers
Richard
Alix
I just tried it again from a hard reset and the same problem
GPS works fine till I answer a call, then It stalls and loses GPS Position till I hang up, then GPS connects again but there is massive lag and the Map is nowhere near its true position,
Not cured until you exit TT and restart,
How did you install TT, I copied the cabs across and installed from the SD, I paired the GPS and set it to COM0, then in TT5 selected Other Bluetooth GPS and COM0.. am I doing something wrong with the way I am trying to get it installed
This has always worked on all the other systems I have used!
Cheers
Richard
I have the same problem and other...
I have the same problem when using Tom Tom ,if I pick a call with my BT headset the gps lost the position and when I close the phone call TT says No GPS device.......it restarts by himself after few mins , but the position is uncorrect, it has like a sort of delay, the arrow on the display "follows me" 2 or 3 Km behind.
So, mi car is quite fast..but be faster than a navigation device is very funny...
Btw my gps antena is an Hamlet HBTGPS
Other problem I have is that Tomtom 5.21 don't allow me to use my TT5.00 maps,it only see Italy ,Iberia and UK...
I think I will get Navigon asap....
Bye...
just a thought have you tried formating the storage card and reinstalling the map just back it up first in using a sirf3 apos and jabra 250v headset ive also used a ttmk2 bt receiver with no probs either
Same here
I am also getting this issue on an SPW M5000, flashed to the Imate test rom. I don't know if it was happening before on the original (crappy) orange rom that it shipped with as I had to upgrade my GPS to a bluetooth from a mouse.
It is a real pain not being able to use them both together and I'm tied to the phone with a wire at the minute.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
I would appreciate any help offered,
I have searched the threads but have not found much applicable
My problem is that I cannot get My Universal to talk consistantly to the Rikaline 6033 GPS the BT link will not stay up.
I am using a T-Mobile Universal with the excelent
JASJAR_WWE_19096_19505_11300_AKU_3_2_ship Rom
The only way I have found of getting the GPS to talk to the Universal BT
is to install "Virtual Earth Mobile",
get it to pair with the Rikaline GPS
and then run TOMTOM 6
TT 6 will then recognise the GPS on COM0
Every time I switch it off and back on I loose the conection and have to go through the whole rigmarole to get it to go again.
I have tried opening the other comms with WM5GPSfix but it doesn't seem to help
If someone has managed it and can let me know I would be very grateful
TIA
A side issue,
What is the reason that the first connection with AS 4.2 takes so long?
Thanks
