I was trying to figure out how to reassign hard ware buttons diffrently for each program. I want the top hardware buttons to act as back and front buttons in explorer but funtion normally otherwise.

Recently I am having problems with my phone, and am wondering if it is a software or hardware problem.
I have tried loading the TNT4 rom & WS5SE roms (this is a g4), and there is no change (im on the Tnt4 one now).
The touchscreen works okay, but the soft key buttons do not. The right bottom one is okay, the left one triggers the right one, the send button show the letters "uytga" on the phone screen when i press them, the end button shows "mn" or something, the camera button works perfect, the comm manager button is the same as the voice button (even when i map it with a program it says "button 4").
It even happens on the soft keys on the keyboard when i slide it out.
Also I used Start-sSPL to put the roms on. Is there a way I can get the OEM one back on or fix the button problem?
Any help will be appreciated.
In the button mapping settings for my touch/vogue/xv6900/whateveryouwanttocallit, I have an entry for "Button 5". I tried mapping it to something and tried pushing every button on the phone and the button on my bluetooth headset for short and long times, and nothing seemed to activate that mapping. Can anyone help me with what that button 5 is connected to? Is its presence in the settings just a mistake?
The only other buttons available to map are button 1 for short and long presses, and that is quite clearly the camera button on the bottom right.
Did you flash a hacked rom. This button does not exist on the vogue, so it might be a button entry from another phone. This button does not exist
No hacked rom, this thing is stock from verizon. The only "interesting" things I installed was microsoft voice command and the htc home customizer. I do remember the available buttons seeming to change when I turned the voice speed dial (the built in thing) on and off, but doing that again doesn't produce a change, and I can't remember what the change was.
I think the VC cab added that button. You can delete it from the registry, as it doesnt exist in hardware
my vx6900 had it on there as well, no flashes or anything. I think it's a Verizon glitch.
hy!
Is there any way to disable "hardware" buttons home, back, phone.
because every time I trying to take phone from pocket, press by acidently some of the buttons, and reject or accept call.
even if phone is locked this buttons works.
thanks!
Try to use AE Button Plus
Hi,
I have the same problem. Any fixes as of yet?
What a stupid design.
Just bought my HD and is loving it. However, the lack of physical buttons is quite frustrating, especially when I am driving.
I like to listen to music with the screen turned off. However, when the screen is off, all the virtual buttons are disabled. Only the physical buttons like the volume and power are active.
Does anyone know if there is a way to enable the virtual buttons even when the screen is off?
i too would be very interested in this. the buttons are not capacitive, but still the ability to wake / power on the phone using the front buttons would be cool
Unfortunately the use of the hardware keys are disabled whilst in standby mode and this cannot be changed
However you can use 3rd party apps like AEBPlus to map other functions to buttons like vol up
i.e.
Volume Up button
One short press > move up
two short press > play
Long press > volume up
and this can be duplicated with different functions to other buttons
Try doing a search for AEB Plus and read up on it. Also search this forum for other methods

I am already using AEBPlus but I need more than 2 buttons. The mapping is done by the application, PocketPlayer, and it doesn't support double press.
Interestingly, when you are making a phone call, the screen will go off initially. You can actually press one of the virtual button to turn the screen back on. So I thought there might be a way to achieve this...
How is your screen getting turned off? By PocketPlayer or by the system's energy-settings? Possibly try Display Switch (yet another little app as Part of psshutXP) for this. Found this in my Touch (ELF) Rom and use it for any app, that doesn't support display-switching itself. Keeps my (hardware)-buttons funktional...

I just bought a used hd2 yesterday, and it came with magldr with ultimate droid rom 3.3. I found out that none of the physical button acts as a Menu and Back button which makes navigation and menu access very hard. I even changed roms but still same thingn
My question is, is hd2 don't map physical keys as menu and back? Or is my unit actually defective? All the buttons work though, only that the Window and Home button does the same thing while Back and End button turns off the screen.
Thanks in advance!
Update: I have manage to get the menu (window) button working, but the back button is more trickier.. it seems thatt the physical button is actually pressing other keys.. in this case when I pressed the Window button for menu.. it will actually press the Home button which will bring me back to home screen. And for the back button, its actually pressing the End button, although I did manage to get it to press its back button, but its quite difficult. Does anyone knows how to fix this?
reply back button
I think that u may have a faulty back button or that dirt got under it thefe are guides on here xda that show u how to fix back button etc but it requires you taking phone apart and you need to read guides totally and follow steps there are also guides on youtube as well. It also sounds that the buttons might have been remapped there is an app called button remapper that allows you to change what the physical buttons do like the phone button back button etc do in other words you can change what every physical button on your hd2 does like for example the volume keys you would be able to change to back button etc. Read about button remapper on google before attempting to use app hope this helps you.
That's a common issue in the HD2, probably your device is defective.
Don't bother with the warranty, replacement and all that stuff since the back and menu aren't required for flashing or entering bootloader mode.
Just download "zMooth" app from market. (Pro version will give you End & Search)
I would prefer fixing the physical keys as they are important functions that is required in order to navigate around. Any links to how to fix the buttons? I think they are just misaligned because of prolong usage. Because multiple tries proves that it can still work.
Update: I have seen the official tutorial video for disassmbling the HD2, to just replace the keypad flex ribbon requires one to go very deep inside the phone before you can actually access the flex ribbon for the keypad. Now i am thinking twice to repair the physical button, let alone give an unofficial service guy to replace it.
@Marvlesz
I have installed zMooth, nice app.. but take some time getting used to. thanks!
or you can try a cm7 rom and use the tablet tweak soft keys in the options.
u can use button savior to replace all buttons .. it's a must have for me ..
Does anyone know if physical button problem such as mine are caused by the wear and tear of the flex cable or is it because of the plastic buttons itself?
