XDA2 + Qstarz BT880 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Just got the Qstarz BT880 off of ebay for £40.00.
I have to say I am very impressed. Bluetooth paired straight away. Tomtom 5 found it as 'other bluetooth gps' on com5. I had a first fix indoors with 5 sats within four minutes :sho
I will now leave it to charge for the recommended 10 hours.

holux GPSlim 236 with magician

hi just to let you all know last week i got myself a new gps receiver
a Holux GPSlim 236 it comes with a USB car charger which also fit my spv m500 so now when using my Tomtom i can keep my phone fully charged
I know, the Holux 236 is a great little fella. I use it for two month now and its easily the best gps receiver I've seen. Indoors around 6feet away from every window I get a 3D sat fix with 5 sats from 6 viewable - boy what a performance. On the outside, well never under 7 sats used out of 8-11.
hi
i got a holux 231 gps but cant get a fix on my location ...is that normal..
it shows the satellites but doesnt give a fix on my location...ive tried in doors..out doors but nothing...or could it be that the reciever doenst worl..
it shows the BT connected light as constant blue but the satellite orange light keeps blinking and doesnt become static..ive left it connected to my imate for hours outdoor but nothing...
do you guys use the reciever only ar have added an antenna aswell
thanks
The 231 has an older chipset and is way less sensitive when it comes to sat reception than the 236.
Normally this can be cured by taking the battery out for 24hours, the unit will do sort of a hard reset. Then place it with a good view to the sky and wait - the old chipsets can take up to 30min for a first fix.

Bluetooth GPS Receivers for MDA Pro and Tomtom 5 Please

Can any list a few bluetooth gps receivers that they have working with there mda pro's and tomtom 5 edition.
There are hundreds on ebay and i've no idea what brands are good or bad.
Your replies would be very welcome to assist me in my purchase later in the week.
Thankyou, Adam
I have the following:
Leadtek GPS (XTRAC2)
Fortuna clip-on (XTRAC and SurfStar II)
Both confirmed working. To play it safe, make sure whichever one you get has the XTRAC chipset - but to be honest pretty much any GPS should work with it.
I use the Holux GPSlim 236 and it works fine.
Thanks guys, i'll have a look around,
How slim is the GPSlim 236, ive seen the tomtom bluetooth MKII and that looks quite flat.
Its mainly for the car, but should i be walking around somthing nice and slim would be ideal for say walking around a city.
GlobalSat BT-308 works fine too. (it's pretty bulky though)
Allso on SPV E200 and TomTom Mobile 5.
GPS
My Jasjar is working well with GlobalSat BT-308, Battery life 8 hours. The most common receiver type is the 12 parallel channel receiver which can collect data from up to 12 satellites at one time. (But infact see only 8-10 satellites)
ROYALTEC BT 2001 SIRF STAR3 WORK FINE ON MY JJ
GPSlim 236 for me.
Easily slips into a pocket.
Try to find one called G-space - small, with new SiFR III, (but I can not tell how better it is from thre previous types), user accessible battery, SAME MINI USB CONNECTOR and car charger included.

TomTom - Pair GPS each time I use?

Hi,
I have recently got an O2 XDA Mini S, and I have TomTom 6 installed I have a generic non-TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver (BT 77) which I got from eBay this works fine with my PDA.
The only problem I have had with it from day one is that I have pair my Bluetooth GPS each time that I use it. If I don't TomTom doesn't seem to detect it. E.g. go to Setting -> Connections -> Bluetooth then delete BT GPS, then I have to search for Bluetooth devices add it again and setup the ports each time I want to use TomTom. Then TomTom will pick it up.
Is this normal? Having to delete my GPS device and then add it again to be able to use it? I normally wait until my GPS has a lock on the satellites before opening TomTom.
Any suggestions on how I get my GPS setup permanently?
I have TT6 and TT's own receiver with Qtek 9100...works fine, pair it once and that's it.
Hi
Are you entering the four digit security code when asked ?. Mine did this till I got the code from the web site for my receiver.

I think you will find that the code you will need is 2003, but you maybe have to check the web site too!

The code in the guide that came with my GPS was 0000 and this works fine when I have to pair my GPS up, which you normally only have to do once.
I think I solved the problem though. Normally I have Bluetooth off and then tapping on TomTom would load up and then TomTom would automatically fire up Bluetooth for me. While it looked like TomTom was running Bluetooth fine it wouldn't actually detect my GPS.
Turning on Bluetooth before running TomTom seems to do the trick as it will detect it within about 7 seconds. Must just be a bug on Windows Mobile 5 or TomTom 6.

Well ok that is wierd cus it, i just start up tomtom and then select the gps and it works find!!! but i guess different with different gps units!!! but good to see that it is working for you now!
I have the same GPS unit as you and I don't have the issue you describe. If I manually enable Bluetooth before starting TomTom 6 it works, if I don't manually enable BT and then start TomTom 6, BT is started by TT6 and it still works. It probably takes a few seconds longer but it still connects quite quickly.
I have TT6 configured for 'Other BT GPS' on Com6. Com 6 appears as 'BT GPS' and is unsecured.

In the Bluetooth settings area for your GPS, make sure the "Secure Connection" box is NOT ticked. This should sort you out.

TOMTOM Navigator 6 Bluetooth GPS problems

Hi,
I have a new Orange SPV M3100. It is a replacement for one which was damaged. Prior to to exchange I was running navigator 6 on the old phone with a navicore bluetooth gps receiver fine. I have installed tomtom navigator 6 on my new phone but there is no way I can get a GPS signal. The gps receiver is connected. I then try to connect via tomtom and nothing. Have followed instructions on this link to no avail:
http://www.tomtom.com/support/solution.php?GID=3&PID=1402&SID=0&CID=223&Language=1&FID=4806
The problem is that when trying to select a port there are no bluetooth serial ports listed. I have spent 2 days trying to get this sorted to no avail. any help would be appreciated.
turn on bluetooth, make sure tomtom is not running, and go to bluetooth settings, search for devices and pair with the gps unit.
then assign the device a port,i always choose 9 and close.restart phone start tomtom and setup gps device as other etc and port 9 should show and hopefully the jobs oxo!
i hope this helps
great instructions...
only one thing to add, on a certain build of Tomtom (i forget which i have used every build since version 2 IIRC)
i had to tell tomtom that i was using "Other NMEA GPS Reciever"
On all other builds i have had to do the same steps to pare the BT GPS device, followed by making the OUTGOING Com port and then tell TomTom i was using "Other Bluetooth GPS Reciever" in order to get it working...
if your having problems see if one or the other device can make the difference ONCE YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS.

gps problem

Hi, I'm using a Royaltek RBT-2300 gps reciever and iGO 2006+, but my Elfin losing the BT connection frequently (it is connected about 2 sec long and not connected about 20 sec). I've tried the reciever with a NOKIA N95 it worked fine, also tried with an ipaq pda (with iGO 8) - losing connection too. I set everything in the External GPS thing, but same story... Any ideas?
