Developer Edition Of KJAM And JasJar - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

It seems Imate are releasing Developer versions of the KJam and JasJar.

Only a little more than a normal version. Anyone know what the difference will be. I am almost tempted to get one.
Is it just a different rom? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

According to specs the difference would be only in ROMs. The device would not check certificates, etc. But we can do the same by editing registry.

I am really starting to hate my Alpine!

OK got a Himalaya and an Alpine (XDA branded) and my Himalaya is very happy now running WM2005 1.60a and the Alpine is running the O2 1.10 ROM.
I had forgotten how unstable WM2003se was compared to WM2005!
The phonepad keeps breaking, have to reinstall from cab files regularly, had to do this on the Himalaya too so it's not the particular ROM or anything I don't think.
Crashes, and lockups, corruption on the today screen that either require a soft reset or messing about changing today themes.
My problem is this, on the Himalaya running 2005, I have many apps installed to my SD card, which is fine, but when I need to use WiFi I need to unplug that to use the SDIO WLAN card, so I am unable to then use many of the programs installed.
Damn shame to let this Alpine gather dust, considering it has 128mb ram and rom, and could run 2005 so much better.
Are there any any newer English ROMs for the Alpine, or should I sit and wait with it boxed up until someone releases something else for it?
I was very annoyed at people working on 2005 for xda2 at the time as I believed that we would get grief from MS about it. It seems that, on the whole, that hasn't happened.
I got a 2i thinking that it would be the next upgrade, therefore when an even newer one comes along - ie Universal - I would be better placed to flog the 2i to pay for it. I'm almost starting to regret that decision as I would dearly love the have 2005 on my 2i...and if I had kept the xda2 I would have been enjoying 2005y goodness by now. Grrr!!
Bring on Universal that's what I say!!

where can us xda 2i owners find th imate rom!?
Yeah, I thought you had to enter your IMEI to access images on the i-mate site.
Have you got a direct link please?
Here!
Many thanks, getting it now
Alan,
I read your thread and have similar dislikes about me Alpine. I have an O2 XDAIIi.
How did your upgrade go?
I downloaded the ROM upgrade but haven't installed it. I am really green at this and not sure how/if I should back up the ROM I have in case I need to restore. Did you do that? Can you guide me on how?
If the ROM upgrade was successful, were you able to install 2005? Again, can you point me in the direction of that download, and instructions.
Greatly appreciated,
Kyle
Try this page, it's about the most up to date ROM for the 2i at the moment. I've had no problems with it at all.
Urm.. you didn't actually post a link?
I am using the i-mate one at the moment, too many people seem to be having problems with the O2 1.11 ROM
True
Sorry, blonde moment there.

I reckon the problem with the new O2 ROM is the radio stack is still the original one. The radio stack on the ROM in the above link is the much better I-mate one with the updates of the O2 ROM.

I-mate ROM on O2 Xphone II

Hey, I have an O2 XphoneII and I've been looking around and found a ROM upgrade for an I-mate SP3i. These are the exact same phones, just different branding. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and how their experience was with it. The upgrade includes WMP10 and support for MP3 ringtones and such, stuff that would make my phone really nice. But I dont want to risk it if it is going to break my phone. Please respond. Thanks.

Is there any way to "downgrade" to WM2003se?

WM2005 is too slow and buggy for my liking, is there a way to get WM2003 on the MDA pro?
I can live with it if not, but WM2005 is horribly slow in comparison to 2003.
You read my mind
I was wondering the same thing just ealier today. I miss my Blue Angels performance. It never locked up and was plenty fast enough. It would be great to hae this performance and reliability on the Universal.
I have both the devices... BA with 1.42 ROM
BA feels faster only when there are very few apps running. However there are too many bugs and memory errors even when I am not running any app. Talk about closing WMP while it is playing and your loose the sound and have to reboot
WM5 is a bit slower but is much more usable IMO.
STILL... is there any chance of downgrading to 2003se??? no doubt its a universal truth that 2003se is much more stable and user-friendly than wm5, and is compatible with a lot more programs.
99.999999% sure there's no way you'll ever see WM2K3SE on a Universal.
Simply because there hasn't been any commercial need for it.
It was probably developed after MS had made WM5 betas for the Himalaya and Blue Angel.
And when they know that the Universal will be using WM5 in the end; why use resources on making a WM2K3SE ROM for it??
Sorry to dissapoint you..
aaah.. well that's ok, I just installed the latest o2 rom 1.30.107 wwe, and thats much much better than the previous one. I won't miss 2003se. 8)
Where can I get that O2 rom above and how would I install it? Thanks.

you can find it here,
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/
althought I downloaded 1.30.162, but after installation in device information it says 1.30.107..!!
YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE Jasjar to 2003SE, because Jasjar and WM5 have totally new memory handling algorythms. This hardware incompatible with the previous operation system.

no no i totally disagree. WM5 is much more stable and user friendly than wm2003se. wm2003se would crash for no real obvious reason sometimes, WM5 never froze on me (except if a program was crazy, using iGO & minimizing it, that causes a freeze). you can run 5-10 apps on WM5 without ANY slowdown i'd notice. WM2003SE, not bad but you can notice the slow down. and the softkeys, well i hated them for the first time but then realized how useful they are when you don't want to use the stylus... absolutely cool. now regarding usability without stylus, we're finally getting closer to the ideal, the handheld pc. now why can't i have a ctrl key on the universal's keyboard??
In just 4 days, after installing the latest O2 rom I had to change my opinion, WM5 Proved itself to be the best mobile os yet, and its working too fine now , no hangs at all.. i wonder why:!: I'm kind of in love with the Jasjar, but I fear that the screen will get loose after sometime at the both pivoting points ,
you are right about the stylus-less use, not touching the screen too often does give you a satisfying feeling.
wm2003 on the Universal DOES exist

Actually If Im not mistaken the T-Mobile MDA IV shipped with wm2003se. I saw on ebay a few days ago an auction for a universal (I can't remember which it was, I feel like It was an imate jasjar) that was clearly running wm2003. There were pictures of the device and its screen with the new menu at the base. Its possible it could have been the new menu hack for wm2005, but there wasn't a second menu item on the right, and while it could also have been a hoax, it seems pretty unlikely. The point is Im sure that a rom for the universal with wm2003se DOES exist, the question is where to get it. I certainly would like to trade in this useless M$ BT stack for a more functional widcomm/broadcomm stack, or even bluesolei.

EASY QUESTION

If I buy a M5000 and put the new imate rom on it will it be the "EXACT" same as a JasJar or Qtek etc...
If you put the newest Rom on all of the devices will they be the exact same as each other - other than the Logo on the outside of the device??
Thanks in advance
If you installed the same ROM on all the devices, yes... They aren't technically any different - Just the providers ROM's differ
thankyou - I would like to purchase one on ebay and have heard the qtek 9000 is better than the m5000 etc... and wanted to know if it mattered once the roms were the same.
The only actual physical difference between the brandings (AFAIK) is the printed logo.
SPV m5000s are usually locked to Orange so you have to use Buzz's unlocker before you can put another brand of ROM in them.

Charmer & Magician can they run each others Software?

I get confused (I know its easy) but is it correct to say that any ‘Charmer’ discussions etc should be discussed in the same form as the Magician? I understand these devices named compact and compact II are similar in a lot of ways but not the same in others. With this in mind can it be said that utilities, programs, fixes, tweaks etc would run on both devices providing they are both executing WM5? Thanks in advance
Since there are limited users for Charmers, the admin decided not to have a seperate section for Charmers. Read this
They are very similiar (almost identical) in terms of the physical appearance, BUT they are very well different internally. One of the major differences is that, Magician runs W2003 while Charmer runs WM5. Hence, not all of the fixes and tweaks are interchangable. However, most of the utilities / software (excluding SIM/CID unlocking, ROM flashing) are interchangable since both are running Windows OS (eg. those software that runs on both W2003 and WM5).
In terms of the hardware, the Charmer is more like a HTC Wizard, in many cases. Example, the aWizard used for flashing ROM can be used for Charmer. The lokiwiz used by Wizard to perform SIM unlock can be used for Charmer as well. As for for fixes and tweaks, those from other WM5 units (Wizard, Prophet, Universal, etc) are mostly (not all) applicable to Charmer.
However, due to the similarity in appearance, Charmer stuff are very well inside the Magician forum. So, Magician user, beware
Thanks Hanmin as always much appreciated. So to recap I have some software from my BA that ran on 2003SE this may work? and help and hints etc can be found in both the magician and Wizard forums. Is this correct? As a newly aquired Charmer user I am not sure if this was the right device to buy as it is outside or radically different to the other devices on the forum.
Also since the site changed has the PM function been removed?
Thanks JD76
"I have some software from my BA that ran on 2003SE this may work?" - Yes
"help and hints etc can be found in both the magician and Wizard forums" - Yes, but you may also want to look at the Wiki section for WM5. Goodies are there.
"As a newly aquired Charmer user I am not sure if this was the right device to buy" - After I had it for almost a year, and loafing around this forum, I find that it is not the 'right' device to buy, as I kinda feel isoated with all the Wizard talks here (not the Tytn talk). However, a year ago, the Charmer and Wizard had almost a £100 difference. So, Wizard is not a 'choice' for me, I'm stingy. BUT, having said that, the phone is good enough for me, as I don't really like the keyboard idea as I'm an ex-Palm user.
As for the PM, you can click on the member's name and there is an option on the right for you to send PM.
Thanks Hanmin I agree with you. I'll have a scoot around and see what I can see see. Like your self I am not interested on the Keyboard but Wi-fi would have been handy. Thanks Jd76
