No, I do not want to use the on-screen keyboard. - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Is there a way to completely disable the onscreen keyboard that seems to pop up at the most innoportune time when editing text data? Whenever I'm using my exec in 'mini laptop' mode, i have access to a full keyboard, and having the on screen keyboard pop up, using 3/4 of the screen height, rendering whatever I was working on unusable, well, that's... frustrating.
Is there a way to disable that keyboard? Registry tweak maybe? TIA!

Try a null keyboard app. PHM has one. There are others too, a big review of them on Brighthand.

Thanks! Sounds like it'll do the trick.

Also, you can simply start typing using your hardware keyboard instead of removing the soft keyboard by clicking on the icon. It will disapear, and will not reopen for this app.
If you click on the keyboard icon to remove it from the screen, it will come back next time.

Here try this NullKeyboard. It works fine on my Exec: http://personales.ya.com/beemer/prod03.htm

this program don't work for me. everytime i select it, my soft keyboard comes back.

Keyboard annoyances

Just a silly annoyance - maybe you have a way out of it. I have checked the reg and my TyTN does have the HasKeyboard set to 1........but anytime I do anything that requires input the on-screen comes up......but I have the great TyTN keyboard and don't need it! plus it messes up all the input windows for new mail etc to half height!
how can I make that thing stay away until I want it?
Just start typing with the hardware keyboard and the popup keyboard should go away. If you just keep using the real keyboard, the software one shouldn't popup after a while.

Disabling soft keyboard?

Just curious is their a way to disable it only in landscape mode?
Im using pocketcm and it pops up when ever im sending a text.
I checked in the regestry and i tried sktools, but its an older release.
Im running Schap's WM6 Pro 4.22 lite ROM and ive checked in his advanced tools...nada.
there's a bunch of programs that let you set different soft keyboard depending on if you're in portrait or landscape mode; one off the top of my head is PQzII. i think QuickMenu might also have the feature, but i can't check right now. anyway, set whatever soft keyboard you want for portrait mode, but for landscape, grab the soft keyboard named NullKeyboard. it's like a blank keyboard, which is as close as you can get to solving your problem. just use PQzII (or whatever) to set the landscape keyboard as NullKB, and you're all set.
Worked like a charm...Thanks
On my Kaiser, if it pops up in landscape mode, if I just start typing with my hardware keyboard, it goes away automatically. Does the Hermes not do that?

It does, but not when i use contactcm. Even now i noticed when i use null keyboard contactcm it still shows 2 send buttons on the screen and the keyboard comes back but u cant see it.. so null didnt really help with that program, No biggie ill just tap the screen to drop the keyboard. once i do that it dosnt pop back up, unless i close the program.. only happends on 2 programs i use.

onscreen finger typing

Is there a program that will let me type with my finger on screen? I have looked and had no luck. My problem is I work 12 hour shifts in a car and sometimes it would be nice to be able to send sms like I was using a standard phone. Sorry if I just missed the app and just for info I am running DCD 3.2.6 and looking at upgrading now.
i have i believe atoms phone pad which is the normal keypad on screen with t9 support/numeric/alpha, so if i need a quick txt no need to slide the keyboard out the push the on screen keyboard and go at it like a normal phone.

This is the only onscreen keyboard you will ever need. Also it sets itself as default keyboard and stays that way even after soft reset.
Also stay with 3.2.6, not quite as much memory as 3.3.xx but much less buggy with calling screen and wierd sounds and stuff. If you are having memory issues install oxios.

Help me get back my original keyboard

Hi guys, i just installed a trial for Lingvsoft English>Farsi dictionary and the first thing i noticed was my keyboard had changed to something more stylus friend but not finger friendly.
I didn't take much notice to it thinking it was only for that program but noticed it was on every screen from SMS to Notes.
Even going to Settings>Input and changing Keyboard types doesn't work. It is on a setting called "Keyboard" and everytime i drop the menu and choose Full Qwerty and press Ok, it doesn't save and keeps the same setting over and over.
I have even uninstalled the program and soft resetted but it hasn't fixed it up.
I want to get back the original keyboard, please help me out.
try selecting something completely different, like block recogniser or transcriber or something and the restart the device. If it sticks choose try the compact qwerty and then restart. If that sticks too goto full qwert. If none of this works then it sounds like your qwerty has been replaced and you might need a hard-reset.
I couldn't change mine from the keyboard options under settings, it kept reverting back.
When you are in an sms press the little arrow next to the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen and change it there, it worked for me.

Legend! Thanks that fixed it
Fixed my problem too.
I also had the issue that the keyboard was only inputting numbers - disabled T9 in HD Tweaks - reset then all ok.

how can I go in "HD Tweaks" ?

Default keyboard - Cannot change

My touch HD keyboard setting seems to be locked on the default keyboard option.
I enter settings, input, change it, to anything else, click okay, reenter and its back to the blue keyboard. I have touchpal installed which i really want to use.
Thing is i got it to stick to touchpal before but its reverted to this again?
I had SKtools and set touchpal to default, but still this problem.
Any way i can stop this. I hate that stupid blue keyboard.
you pick your keyboard by clicking the triangle beside the keyboard sign when you are inputing text/letter. not from setting
