probable some software interference. list out what software you've installed.
since the new rom i have installed TomTom, Monopoly and Reg edit. nothing else yet...
i don't remember what post i came acroos this in but iwas buried deep in a looooooong post that had nothing to do with your issue. i was having the same problem and this WORKED!!!!! here is the cut and paste from the post
Aha! I've sussed it out....
I used a registry editor (like Total Commander) and renamed the files as mentioned above. I don't think it matters what you rename them to as long as it's different. In my case I renamed atl80.dll as atll80.dll and mfc80u.dll as mfcc80u.dll. Both these files were found in the 'Windows' folder.
Once I quit out of Total Commander and opened up 'Pictures & Videos' it started working again. YES!
Thanks to the guys above for the pointers.
good luck and i hope it works for you. i am running the summter's ROM on 8125. i am still having this problem with my e-mail button at the top of the phone but my picture previews work now
good luck
i tried renaming it as well with total commander. but its stuck as read only. i can't change that. any ideas?

I hope someone can help, as I haven't been able to find the answer yet (I can imagine it may be somewhere here on xda-developers.com, just CAN'T seem to find it ;-)
How do you rename a file AND its extension.
I have quite a bit of software installed, but still nothing seems to solve this little problem. There are some cases where I think it may help (certain word files, media files are not recognized in WM2003?!) and it would be nice if you could manually set a file's extension.
Anyone posting a link or an answer would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe some software that does this?
Thanks.

Thanks guys. I'll give them both a try, yet I recall that I found something about resco products (durring install?) that I didn't particularly like. Maybe just my imagination :?
But, I'll try them both out... as I found I really need to rename files 'on-the-fly' from time to time.
Regards
well i use total commander all the time renaming my sheep p0rn collection mpg's to .tsk all the time so people who mess around with my pda think they are damaged today screen themes to hide my terrorble secret

Hey all,
I just bought the Cingular 8125. I noticed from the start that the "Pictures & Videos" appliction used for previewing and viewing pictures doesn't seem to work right. I can use it to view pictures if I clock on an image file from the explorer, but the preview function doesn't work at all. No thumbnails show up at all. In fact, the place where the thumbnails would be doesn't seem to refresh at all. If I open a menu or window over this area, the area does not re-draw after I close the menu or window.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks in advance.
I had exactly the same problem after installing the new menu program posted somewhere on here. I ran the DLL switcher program, and it worked fine after. Search about for it...

Woot! After renaming my atl80.dll and mfc80u.dll. it started to work! Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction!
i have the same problem on my wizard...what should i rename and to what?
Aaaack! Now I've got this problem too. When I click on 'Pictures & Videos' the grid comes up but there are no 'thumbnails', it's all blank.
I don't quite follow the solution info above, I can use 'Total Commander' to find the dll's mentioned in the above post but what do I rename them to?
I've looked everywhere for this 'Dll Switcher' that's also mentioned, no joy.
If anyone has seen this and has fixed it I'd be grateful for the solution, thanks.

Had the same problem for weeks until I stumbled upon this topic. Thanks guys, it worked like a charm.
My only question is: will some other application be affected by renaming these DLL's?
sweeeeet. keep this one up top! i was convinced i'd have to use file explorer to send pic files.
so i see that there is a blue angel rom with "true" crossbow sound theme.. im wondering if neone has these files id like to use them on the wizard. dont care so much bout the icons but want the sounds!
Can't remember which thread this was posted in, but here it is again.
thats only the ringtone......im looking for the system sounds and such
The ringtone file is the only thing I've seen posted in the forums.
After the mess with Palm over posting the PhotoDialer .cab and with Apple over the iPhone mock-up screen, if there ever WAS a posted file with the other system sounds it's probably had to be removed now too. But, if it WAS ever posted, I never did see it -- and I scour these forums every day.
This is the soundpack I have - I have it and have no idea where/when I got it. It has the same name as the zip posted here and has the same file plus a whole lot more. I think it's standard with the AKU 3.2.
-Mc
thank you thank you
Anyone have any ideas on using the new sounds. I can't replace the files in \Windows, and cannot alter there attributes. I'm assuming you must build a ROM to use them.
I have a sounds folder in "My Documents" on my PPC and there is already a sounds folder in Application Data. Put them there and the system will recognize them. No need to replace the other ones...
-Mc
None of those work. The system still uses the files in \windows.
Try using Total commander to overwrite the files.
i used windows exploere and overwrote off the pc
You cannot just change the sounds i'm afraid, that's not worked since back in WM2002, you have to change the registry entries related to the sounds...
I reccomend a nice little commercial app (no links) called "Soundz Cool". It's a Windows based application that runs on your PC, which connects to any WM powered PDA, and pulls the sound settings from the registry. you can then edit them, and copy them back to your PDA with your own custom sound effects. Soundz Cool will even remove unused files it's copied across before to kepp your PDA clean.
Hope this helps you all, coz it took me ages to find such an application...
Not sure if anyone has posted these elsewhere, happy to remove this if they have. I did a quick search as I was after the WM6 sounds (they're so much better than WM5!) to no avail. As I still have my Hermes I thought I would just copy them and see if anyone else wanted them.

I tried this this morning and as most of the files are .wma I had to convert them to wav before it would see them. If anyone needs these posting I can put them up here.

Here you go. Just checked, all the file names are the same, just had to convert everything to .wav
Let me know if anything is wrong!
EDIT: Can't upload the file, the ftp keeps timing out. Will try again in a bit!

Cool! Was just about to do it tonight!!
Perhaps you could upload it to rapidshare? If you don't, I'll mirror the files on FTP with my Rapidshare premium account so that it won't expire.
Here they are - the issue was the size of some of the phone ringtones, so I've left them as .wma since they will work as ringtones, just not any other sounds.
And here's the rapidshare link! Thanks, findus!

System write protected files
Unfortunately overwriting existing files is not so easy as the current files are write-protected system files!
Instead rename the new files to something like e.g. from 'Alarm 1' (original file) rename new file to 'Alarm 1_WM6'.
just copy the '_WM6' part and paste to the end of each filename.
Once done drop all new files into 'Windows' directory and select your chosen sounds in the 'sounds and notification' app in;
settings/personal/Sounds & Notifications
works for me
I don't have any problem with the protected files. I just press on Overwrite All and it worked just fine.

Yes I'm using Resco Explorer 2007. Ah I guess that's why. I have been using resco explorer for many years from previous versions. So I didn't notice that using other explorer wouldn't work.

That's it. I'm converting right now. I always thought that Resco Ex... was good for just registry tweaking and I already became accustomed to Total Commander, but I can see the benefits clearly now. Thanks again jlingo.
Resco Explorer does the job!!
Thanks jlingo & findus. Resco Explorer is the nuts. Did it with no problems.
Did't realise what I'd been missing all these years.

I never had this problem... I just used activesync and replaced all of the files from my computer. Went smoothly and all files are working just fine with just one minor problem. The audio quality is nowhere near as nice as the originial when I replaced the sounds already on the phone. They are kinda distorted and the audio quality isnt very good.

That'll be down to poor conversion I think. So you switched back to Original T-Mobile WM5 ROM? Hmmm interesting...well good luck
thanks... was looking for these files...
does anyone know which sound goes with what notification for the alarm1-alarm5 files?
I think alarm3 is new sms
My standard file explorer takes MINUTES to load from a fresh soft reset. I deleted something on the startup folder with some *.lnk which probably had some stuff to do with it. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks and Merry X'Mas to everyone!
Tell me the name of the ink and tomorrow I will try to find it and post it here
Hey thanks!
It was poutlook (i don't use any email programs except webbased from Opera), and some clear WMPlog file or something (don't remember). Also PG.lnk i've removed. Merry X'mas and thanks for your help in advance!
did you try and install the fileexplorer addon that gives you the extra menus, it makes it slow and crappy in alot of WM6.5 roms, including the ones that come with the leo.
hi thanks for the response again but no i didn't install anything for file explorer (next to total commander as i just couldn't stand it anymore). It seems as if you are RESORTING the order of the file names (eg, date, type, etc). It's just under /windows directory.
Check to see if your files are sorted by name. Sorting by something else might be the culprit.
i had the same issue but it was the storage card, that was defect. I bought a new one and all worked fast again!
