Hi all, I recently bought a second hand Exec without a battery
I don't want to buy a battery if the unit is faulty (there is a chance) If I plug the charger into the socket all I get is a red light
My question to all you Exec owners is- is this normal or should/will the unit work without the battery present.
Thanks in advance Grez
Hi grez
U need a batery to operate the exec when i take my battery out the same thing happens.
Hope this helps
Hi scotjen1,
To double check, if you remove the main battery and plug the charger in all you get is a red light. The unit will not power on using mains only.
If this is the case I will risk buying a battery.
Thanks for your help.

Hi can someone please help, My XDA 11 won't charge, or make any connection in it's dock, can someone tell me where I can get it repaired, Thanks a lot ,
Try taking it to any O2 shop, they have a special device for quick charging the battery without going through the XDA. It happened to mine a while ago i thought the battery was dead so went to get a replacement, but they put my battery in this charging unit and it came back to life :?
re not charging
Hi, thanks for your advice, but I don't think that the problem is with the battery, as i have a spare battery and have charged the battery in the aux/battery charger in the dock so both batterys are fully charged, the problem is with the connector to the mother board at the bottom of my pda, so it won't connect to my computure, Activesync, or charge, but i'll call in to the O2 shop and see what they have to say..... Thanks. :?
Hi
I have an orange SPV M3100 which died on me a few months back and I think its a repair job to be honest, It was running low on battery and I simply connected the charger and the phone immediately switched off and displayed a red led, i looked at the tip of the charger (Mini-usb type) and noticed that the bottom of the tip was slightly bent up as if it had been stood on or something.
Since then the phone wont switch on, charge or anything, its even stopped displaying the red led, I have tried the following.
1. Tried alternative chargers
2. Tried connecting to USB on PC
3. Tried resetting, removing battery and connecting to charger and putting battery on whiclst connected to power.
all of the above does nothing, I have thought about buying another battery but dont really want to go to the expense of buying a bettery to find that its completely dead anyhow
Any advice chaps?
Thanks
Will
I have the same problem, last night was browsing the web on wifi and the phone simply switched of, thought it might be the battery was dead so i hooked it up to the charger, the phone'sred led came up, came down this morning and it is still red..not green and it will not now power up....it must be something simple can any one help..?
ctasystems, if the red LED doesn't come on you may have fried you phone... If the power on the usb charger connected with the data part of the Hermes it may have fried the mainboard. I say this as this happened to my Imate Jam. The only thing I could suggest is if you know someone else with the same phone then try their battery and charger. If it works then its the battery &/or charger. If it doesn't then you've got something to sell on ebay - it will get you some cash to put towards a new phone...
hooperman, does sound like the battery BUT it sounds more like the battery is completely stuffed. As above, change the battery with a friends battery or go to the shop and see if they have a spare around you can try... The red LED means the hardware is still functioning so that would be my advice or purchase a cheap battery off of ebay.....
Cheers...

Battery problem
Hi,
I know old post, but it may help somebody.
It is possible that your windows has switch off the battery charging circuit for some reason.
You MAY be able to get it working with the following trick:-
You need 3 x 1.5 volt AA batteries, some wire and 2 pins
You need to join the batteries together in series (i.e. end to end)
Next make a negative lead from the negative of the battery pack to one of the pins.
The make a positive lead in the same way.
Open the battery cover of your Wizard.
Connect the USB charging cable.
Put the negative pin you have just made into the gap between the battery and the charging pins in the Wizard - MAKE SURE YOU ONLY CONNECT IT TO THE PIN NEAREST TO THE USB PORT.
Now comes the tricky bit - take the positive pin you have just made and touch it on the charging pin which is NEAREST to the power on switch.
If all goes well the charging light on your Wizard should turn orange indicating that it is charging.
You might have to try this a few times, I was never sure if you had to keep the external battry connection on for any length of time or just a quick connection would do the trick. I suppose it depends on the state of the Wizards battery.
This is NOT my work! I do not want to take credit for something that is already documented on this site as it helped me get my battery working again.
Regards,
John
thanks a lot!
saved my wifes phone. Is this problem (happend twice already) something that I can address with a new rom, anyone knows?
I also have the remove the battery go back to Feb2006 issue. Device is off warranty by a few good years. Is it something an experienced electronics person could try (without destroying the phone that is...)
Cheers

Worked for me too
I had just bought a new battery for my Qtek 9100.
This one:
sku.23974 at dealextreme.com
My 9100 had been dead since 2006 (because the battery was dead ...)
And i got a new phone.
but i tought it was to good to throw away, so i bought the new battery.
But i did let it run out of battery, and it would not take the charge.
but this trick did the job
Thanks
Hi all,
Just wanted to sign up to say thank-you - I chanced upon this forum while seeking a solution to the same problem.
I'm happy to report that the 'jump-start' works perfectly!!
I actually used the slightly different method, described in another thread on this forum:
Take a USB-to-Mini B cable. One that you won't need ever again.
Cut the Mini B end off and strip back the outer casing. Inside is a wire mesh and within that a foil lining. Pull these both back.
Now find and strip the black and red wires. The wires are thin and this is a fiddly job, especially if you have large hands, so this works best if you screw the exposed wire strands up into little balls.
Remove the battery from your Qtek 9100 (or whichever model it is). Pay attention to which pin goes to which contact and so identify which ones are the positive and negative contacts on the battery - It is described above in Heinkeljb's post.
Now, plug the USB into your PC (which should be switched on and running) and connect the black wire to the negative (and red to positive) contact on your battery.
Hold for a good 30 seconds.
Now reinsert the battery into the phone and attempt to charge.
You may need to 'jump' your battery a few times....
Once again, many thanks to teh lovely people here for saving my beloved Qtek 9100!!!!!
Hello,
my problem is strange.
When I turn off my Atom Life it can be charged (USB, External Power Supply).
Red indicator light on.
When turned on (in use) it does not charge. The charging symbol in the status line shows the unit is connected to external power, but the red indicator light is off, and power continuously goes down.
I already tried a hard reset, but that did not help.
Does anybody have an idea?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that everything with charging went fine earlier (until some weeks ago)
charging
same thing with my XDA ATom dude
I have ordered a new battery for mine at ebay (did not arrive yet).
Maybe it helps.
Otherwise ...
Ok, the battery came in and it does not change anything.
Still the same issue.
So I am gonna litter it...
bye bye
New info,
there seems to be a bad contact at the USB connector.
If I connect the USB cable and hold the plug in a specific angle, then the charging light (red led) turns on).
Brought the device to a friend of mine. He's good at electronics and tries to figure out and fix the usb connector.
wait and see

any news for your problem ??
i'm having this problem too
i brought used one and seems the battery is almost dead and can't charge when device is ON
Thanks!
I got a used atom life and bought a new main battery for it. Charging via USB cable connected to my notebook is working fine. Using the (wall socket plugin) power supply with the same cable it behaves the same way you described it. It starts charging only when the device is turned On and back Off. In my opinion the power supply is the reason. Maybe it is to week ar has some sort of security switch build in, which is protecting it against to high power consumption.
In my case it was definitely not the charger. I tried several ones and they behaved all the same (the original one wrked for long time).
It is the device itself.
I had it sent to a friend who was able to open it and a have a look at it.
The USB plug itself was a bit loose. But soldering it again did not fix the problem.
There seems to be a micro break of a wire on the mainboard (which is multi layered). So no real chance to repair.
I replaced my device by a HTC Desire which was available in Germany very very cheaply (you don't want to know the price because it wuld be too frustrating).
So goodbye Atom Life.
Greetings friends;
I need of the help you; I have bought this cellphone HTC Tilt 8925 AT&T and fallow the steps to charger the bettery for 8 hours and when I turned on appeared this screen (image attached); tried to connect on PC and directly on outlet power but the problem persisted; I have sent the device to the seller and he told me that replaced the battery and the cellphone worked; 2 days ago received again the cellphone and did the charger but only appear this screen (image attached). I did a video and put on youtube, as I can't to put link in this moment you can see the link on (image attached) please help me.
The seller said this about the video and problem: From what I can see, it is my best guess that the proper voltage/amps are not getting to the phone. The phone took so long to get to you this time, it could be that the battery is drained beyond being charged. For the phone to function properly, the battery must be in, not just the phone plugged in without the battery. At this point, my only other guess is that the charger may not be working properly. Is it possible for you to insert the battery and allow the phone to charge over night in your car with the car charger we supplied? If you do that and it turns out to work, then obviously there is something wrong with the AC charger. You mentioned the USB plug, but I don't know for sure if the phone charges while plugged into USB.
I disagree with him and I answered this: The eletric power it's all or nothing; you can see the cellphone turn on even with the battery or using the outlet or USB from the computer; if the power do not works, the device did not turn on, but the device turn on and only can see that screen, my opinion is that there is a software problem cellphone. I have another HTC cellphone and used this charger that comes with the new cellphone and that you saw on youtube video and my old HTC cellphone turn on perfectly without battery.
I NEED OF HELP OF YOU: THIS PROBLEM IS IT BATTERY OR SOFTWARE OF THE CELLPHONE?? I THINK THAT IS NOT THE BATTERY. ANY SUGGESTION IT'S WELLCOME.
THANKS AND PLEASE HELP ME.
BEST REGARDS
TIAGO
