wizard with sharp sounds - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey, guys!
I have the following problem: sometimes, when i call somebody, i hear in my phine sharp sounds. they are so sharp, that i cannot even hold the device near my ear. do you know what can be the problem?

That's my problem too, so weird but that sharp sound is getting more often everyday. In a call when phone is near by body is makes a sharp sound. It's a magnetism problem maybe i do not know.. :?:

same thing happens here (spv m3000)

And besides sometimes ,I can feel small electrical current while holding the phone , I think there must be a short circuit with the battery

Don't you all have the same carrier? :?

My phine is so sharp it cut my ear

I don't think that we all have the same carrier. it must be a hardware problem
and if your ph(o)(i)ne did cut your ear, you don't need to use a razor then

so what do you guys think we can do in this case. a friend of mine, who also has a qtek 9100, also has this problem. to tell you the truth, i hate it. it bother's me a lot, because i cannot talk normally on it. if i use bluetooth hadsfree, everything is ok, never had those sharp sounds.

i think that there is a problem with the internal speaker

Any of you overclock the phone. it's not a speaker problem because if it was must be permanent . Not everytime does this, I can't figure it out in which circumtances do this problem rise. As you said if you take the phone away from your body(wired/BT headset or Speakerphone On) it stops.

i used to overclock it, but since i saw that the clock is going down again to 180 by itself, i stopped doing it. now i am not overclocking, but these sharp sounds still occur.

i have overclocked it only once. but it happened also before overclocking.

so, it means this is not the problem. i think this is because of some problems with the network, may be worse coverage, or vice versa, because of a very good coverage

It should have been an hardware(magnetism) or phone software (ROM upgrade) problem; no network or something can cause this for my opinion.
first of all we must find the common circumtances to figure out what causes this

about magnetism.. do you use the original case?
i use it, and some times when i pull out my phone from it, the screen rotates because of it's magnets

may be you are right. last time i remember these sharp sounds, i was wearing its original case.

I do never use case. i am out then.

Maybe our anger makes us flow electric current more

it means that its not the case to blame.

Strange sound issues (this is a tough problem!)

Hey all, im glad this site is up its been great finding what i can really do with my wizard!
here is he issue im having. the wizard has 3 different speakers and 1 microphone. 2 side speakers (used to play music, or speaker phone) and the 1 main speaker (used for hearing calls). none of the 3 work when im making calls, listening to music, alarms, or any of the "screen click" sounds and the microphone doesnt work on phone calls or note recordings. however, the one time the speakers do work is when i have an incoming call, i tried listening to see which speaker its coming out of and it sounds like all 3. the headphone jack still works so thats what ive been using. pressing the speaker phone button while on a call (that i cant hear) doesnt do anything, the UI doesnt show any change or switch to indicate its changed to speaker phone and the "speaker on" button doesnt change to "speaker off" like it used to.
originally i thought this was a ROM issue, i was using the manufacturer's ROM (cingular 8125, unlocked for tmobile service) so i followed the lovely tutorial and switched my phone over to the t-mobile 2.26 ROM. this had no effect, so I then upgraded to XDA's WM6 ROM and while i love this new ROM it still did not fix my sound issue.
im stumped, any help anyone can offer would be great. I wanted to post here before i crack it open to look at all the insides.
same problem!
I'm having the exact same problem! I just noticed the problem recently, when my phones alarm didn't sound. I'm running a custom cooked rom from mattk_r 318 kitchen, but I don't think the rom is the problem, as i am indeed still hearing sound from the head phone jack. I don't think the internal speakers are broken, as when a call comes, the phone rings, and the sound come out from the speaks as mentioned above!
Help!
dropped?
have you ever dropped your phone?
I have dropped mine a couple times and thats the only cause I can come up with. But this never seemed to be a problem until recently.
no major drop recently.
i havent really dropped it recently at all.and for some reason i dont think the hardware is the problem, because i tryed voice recorder, and it records my voice and i can play it
back through the headset.so that confirms that the mic and both spealers work (rings
when incoming call). i really dont want this to be the downfall for my wizard! is there
any key registry entrys for sound maybe that we could have a look at? btw my wizards a G4 if thats makes any difference.
please help!!
mine is a g3, if it were a software issue then reflashing should have solved it. right? i dont know enough about the internal workings of the wizard to know what a flash actually does.
?
Anyone have any ideas on what I can try?
Well, a flash is an OS upgrade/downgrade. It contains drivers, programs, registry settings, things of that sort. Sounds like your problem is hardware related, nothing to do with the OS itself.
I assume the warranty on that baby has already expired, so you're pretty much on your own.
Two options come to mind:
1. The obvious... buy another Wizard
2. The not so obvious... buy another Wizard with a broken screen and take all of its guts out and put them in yours.
A third option also exists... (ther's always a third way)
Mind you, this is for INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY! In no way do I condone the below mentioned method.
Get a new line of service with Cingular and buy the Wizard to use with it. Exchange their boards, swap the IMEIs using the Wizard Service Tool utility found on these boards, cancel the line of service and return the "new" Wizard.
Sound issues
I have had a similar problem but located my problem to the microswitch which is in the headphone socket. Might be worth trying pulling the headphones in and out a few times to see if it allows the microswitch to release (if that is the problem?)
Steve
The wizard is magic
Some how my wizard seemed to repair it self. Its sound is working again...i didn't reflash or do anything special....weird. I think its because the phone had a good vibrate....ive got one of those speaker docks for the wizard..i put it in there...got a phone call and talked and stuff...but while it was in there (with the mic plugged it) it vibrated alot...maybe that flicked the switch mentioned above?
weird..this phone never ceases to amaze me. I just hope it doesn't happen again... because it appears to be emerging as a problem as the wizards get older?
Keep up the good work guys!
LOL!!!!!!!!! its so simple and yet so amazingly smart
wow, Steve you are the most amazing person EVER!
I put the headphone piece in about 1/10 of the way and slowly made a swirling action as i slid it all the way in, clicked the start button on wizard and i heard the "click" for the first time in a month!
Thanks!
I tried different options to get my sound back, no luck so far
Problem started after using the headset-connector to connect it to an FM-Transmitter.
After reading this thread, my guess is that the "micro-switch" is in a wrong position. So I opend my MDA, but can't find any "switch" in that connector.
Is there some more info about that connector, a connection-diagram perhaps ?
what worked for me was inserting the headset jack in roughly, robbing each side of the headset jack to try to hit the "switch". that might work for you.
Yes!!! Thank you a lot!
I have the same problem, no sound in my speakers, just vibrate and sound in handsfree. I figure out that this micro-switch could be the problem, but I haven't know how to solve it. Thank you once again, I love my SPV!! and this community.
Fixed!
Woohoo!
This problem just cropped up for me on the weekend.
Thankfully it wasn't long before I happened across this thread.
About a minute of persistent jiggling the microphone jack did the trick.
Thanks!

O2 Atom - hissing noise when on

I've got an original O2 Atom (with the latest official O2 ROM installed). It has a very anoiying hissing noise when the unit is on. I.e. if it's on standby (so blank screen) and you press the power button the noise starts when the screen comes to life. It continues the entire time even if the backlight turns off, doesn't stop until it goes back onto standby.
I've had a bit of a Google search and found this - http://www.fixya.com/support/t227104-getting_hissing_noise_when_backlight - but there's no answer/solution.
The noise apart from being very anoiying makes phone calls quiet painful. Any ideas/solutions?
I only got this unit a couple of days ago cheap and secondhand, and I'm pretty sure that it hasn't been making this noise all the time...
i got this problem before. Its the hardware Touch Screen defact. Nothing you can do unless warrently is still in force. Changing thru your own pocket will cost more than wat you paid for it. Sorry...
mmmmmmmmm....dont get me started on this topic!!!
However, the noise does subside over time and be careful not to depress the LCD whilst the handset is in your pocket as this make the noise louder. Changing the LCD is a waste of time the noise starts again after a short time, Atom Life, Atom Exec and standard Atom have the same LCD, Mobo and yes......the same problem....
What you can do.......... power off after answering a call............try not to apply any pressure to the screen.
Dang, that really sucks. Makes such a nice phone a peice of poo now - I'lll be shifting it off shortly then.
So there's no real feasable solution.
I'm so dispointed, the more I use this phone, the more I'm liking it, but then every time I get a phone call I feel like droping it into the nearest bin!

And it won't hang up? That's brilliant, I'll be able to live with the phone now!

Rattle from phone (not volume key)

I know there is another short post about this, but wanted to get a quick poll from people about whether this is even a fault. The phone does not appear to be malfunctioning.
I have noticed a rattle in the head of the device (this is not related to the volume button, mine is a bit loose, but it doesn't really bother me). If I shake it perpendicular to the screen, it makes a small rattling sound. If however, I tap it lightly near the back speaker, it makes a large and rather unnerving rattling sound (if you're going to test for this, please hold onto the volume button to rule this out). The issue with this is that when I take a call and the volume is quite high, whatever is loose appears to rattle sometimes, making the unrelated but highly annoying audio distortion problem even worse!
I have managed to get opinions from 2 other users already. One has it, the other doesn't. That makes 2 that have it and 1 that doesn't so far.
Any ideas on what it might be, also appreciated!
Mine does it, i suppose it could be the camera lense =/
I notice the rattle, and have noticed previously a nasty distortion type rattling sound when on a call.....
Mine phone started doing that after using the camera edge to open beer bottles. But only after the 12th bottle....
mine too...
My phone does it too, when i shake the phone it doesnt sound but when i tap the speaker it makes the loose kinda screw soundm it almost sounds like when the lens is focusing it makes a sort of click its almost the same so i would assume it is the lens, after all my phone is working great, only the screen fails to respond sometimes when typing an sms or using the sense keyboard...
i think it is the lens
it is the lens, is has a small magnetic mechanism, similar to a solenoid to move the lens in and out for focusing. If it didnt have a little rattle, your autofocuser is stuck
OK thanks for the replies, looks like pretty much everyone has got it, but curiously, I got a reply from HTC on the matter, concluding that there might be an issue with the handset. Admittedly I asked about the sound distortion too, but they recommended a replacement?!? Sounds like they don't know about this or just blanket recommend a replacement if they're not sure.
I'll probably stick with the unit though, other than those 2 issues, my handset is perfect.
Thanks again for all the responses!
Hmmm I just rang htc about this has mine as developed the fault.. Also reported that my bottom buttons are starting to peel. Not to sure if i should send it off now or not.. Problem is.. It didn't do it before so why is it now? The guy on the phone was hinting towards me maybe dropping the phone I think and said I may incur a charge if they don't believe it is a problem with the phone.. Which I no I shouldn't but find really offending because I treat my phones like a baby and has never been placed on a surface hard in its life (and always placed on top of the htc case) let alone dropped.. But I know there are a lot of people who don't mind spending £500 on a phone and not treating it to well so I guess they have to presume this..
Anyway..
I also think it is coming from the camera area.. I never use the vibrate function so turned that on for a bit to see if that would make any difference and also used the camera for a while to see if it was the auto focus but still the same. If the noise wasn't so obvious I wouldn't send it in for repair but I think this noise is going to do my head in.. (also want the buttons replaces as they are starting to peel)
If they try to put the noise down to misuse I think I will be selling up and moving back to apple.. Shame because I love the HD2.
Just out of interest my phone came from one of the 1st batches from Clove in November.

Microphone issue N1

I have had my nexus for about a month now and a little while back started having problems with the microphone. People on the other end will say I sound like I am in a "tunnel" or "distant". Seems to get worse during long conversations. Sometimes I can hold a 20 minute conversation and not have one problem other times it gets so bad that they cant even hear me.
I have really good reception and 3g at my house. I called T-mobile to see if it could be something with their network and they said probably not since they had only noticed problems in Texas and some other random state (I live in BK,NY) . Called HTC and they were no help at all (said I should try and reboot my phone thats all they could think of). Called google and they said I sounded just fine. As I said before It doesn't happen during every single call, but I have had about 3 different people tell me the same thing...
Anyways, the bootloader is unlocked so I can't send it in to get it replaced or even have it looked at with out paying an arm and a leg.
Anyone Have any ideas? Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?
Thanks.
Ok this is just a random thought as I have had a similar experience, but only when I hold said phone with my shoulder. Are we perhaps doing something to the noise cancelling mic? Would covering it make a difference during a conversation? Something to do with the proximity sensor? i am just thinking out loud.
I dont think its the proximity sensor because I put tape on it keeping the screen off and it was still doing it. as for covering the mic on the other side I don't know. I guess i could cover it for a while and see what happens. I'm going to send it to HTC and see what they say. Hopefully its a hardware issue that they can fix for nothing.

Issue with vibration

Hi,
Just got my Desire HD today and it's all good except I've noticed a rattle when the vibrator kicks in, ie when you're entering text for a message etc that is a very different sound to the actual vibrator itself. Has anyone else noticed it?

Dude! have the exact same Issue! I was going insane, because i thought it happened after i dropped my phone. But You're saying you have it and your phone is new. Anyone else?
My vibration motor failed last Friday. Makes a scraping/clicking/whining noise depending on how I hold it. Never dropped and kept in a HTC leather pouch all the time.
HTC UK quoted 28+ days to repair as "there is a backlog of repairs, due to us moving repair centres". Told them to fcuk right off, not waiting that length of time.
Twisted Phones4U's arm (who I bought the handset off) and they reluctantly agreed a replacement.
I'm still waiting for that, as the first replacement had extremely poor fitting covers, both battery & SIM/SD card.
Sorry to hear that andy. But the issue we are describing is the vibrator producing a rattling "click" sporadically when delivering haptic feedback. It's close in sound to an ipod keypress osund (LOL, didn't know how to describe it otherwise). It's a minor issue, but it's driving me insane! We want to see how many people have noticed it, and if there is a solution/workaround
Same issue here - worked fine for the first week of owning the phone and since then the vibrate function rattles so loud it's embarassing so I avoid using it altogether (not to mention it's a horrible high pitched sort of sound).
I have, however, noticed that if I gently squeeze the left and right sides of the phone and test the vibrate function it works correctly as it's meant to (I try to avoid doing this often as I'm scared I'll damage the screen by putting too much pressure on it). It's almost as if the vibrate motor gains some breathing room and space for movement.
This leads me to believe that either the various removable covers are no longer a decent fit (and they were a pretty bad fit to begin with) and are causing the rattle or the whole case has warped somehow causing the vibrate feature to play up.
I'd be interested to see if any other people confirm this to be an issue.
I have baught my Desire HD around 6 months back. Even my phone gives rattle sound (Something like there are some loose part inside). I don't remember if I have this issue when I bausght the phone, But I am facing this since long time.
In some threads they say the metal ring around the camera could be loose and it rattles when the phone vibrates. Maybe it could be that but my phone vibration is weak but normal.
there comes more and more a louder sound when the phone is vibrating. but when its in my bag, its sometimes better i hear it a bit
