I would like an audio/media player which can play back MP3, OGG, WMA and FLAC. Does such a thing exist?
And overall what is thought to be the best media player for WM5?
Also, does anyone know what (if any) players support gapless playback?
Gsplayer or TCPMP
I'd say, go with Mortplayer. It is based on Gsplayer, but has a completely revamped UI. It handles MP3, OGG, WAV, and MIDI files as well as streaming content. It is skinnable (very nice graphical skins are available), supports multiple formats, pauses music automatically when phone is in use, free, etc.
If you are looking for something that can do various video formats as well and almost every audio format, the gold standard is TCPMP (also free). I wouldn't recommend this as your primary music player, as the UI is very bare bones.
I keep both on my Wizard. I only use TCPMP for video and the odd audio file that Mortplayer can't handle.
Where can Mortplayer be downloaded?
If WMA and gapless playback are terribly important to you, take a look at Conduits Pocket Player. It handles MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, and WAV. The UI is rather smooth. Downsides are that it can be a CPU hog, Gsplayer/Mortplayer have better audio quality, and costs $19.95.

Ive transfered mp3 video files over to my XDA II but media player wont play them why? Is there a file size limit?
I have transferred audio mp3 over with no problem
well maybe windows mediaplayer dont like the bit pr secund rate of those mp3's ms dont really like mp3 and like to push their own format which is wma
i would try winampaq or some other free player and see if it play more nicely otherwise try different bitrates or maybe another codec
in cdex you can choose between a few mp3 encoders
Video MP3 file? I don't think so....
Windows Media Player will play wma, mp3 for audio and wmv and avi (possibly others too) for video, the bitrates and resolution size you use are important for quality of picture and quality of playback.
Use Windows Media Encoder for a nice little batch of tools, if you use Windows XP, then you can also use the windows movie maker which can export movies straight to pocketpc format.
Cheerio
if he mean video and in mpg and not mp3 then
pockettv and pocketmvp are pretty good mpg players
Hi guys,
I'm looking for the best mm player for my Jam...
I'd like a player that:
- can works in background
- can play all the mm format (audio/video) such as: mp3, ogg, mpeg, avi,wma divx ecc...
- the player have to stop when I'll receive a call or text and then play again
- the player have to don't use the standard configuration fot the power management (es: I configure my Jam to shutdown after 3min. but if I play mp3 I don't want this!)
The Win media player 10 it's very nice for example but how can i add the plugin fro divx, ogg and all the other fromat?
Any other mm player application?
try this
Think TCPMP is the best.

I think that Betaplayer and TCPMP are the same now
Yeah, TCMP is the newer version of Betaplayer. Dunno why they renamed it, but oh well. Whaever floats their boat!
A good music player is MortPlayer. A good video player is the already mentioned TCPMP. You can also find plugins for the WM to play Divx movies and so on but I would recommend the above combination.
Man, except for TCPMP (aka BETAPLAYER), there aren't any mediaplayers that support all those features...
is there a way to play AAC file (ipod) with WMP 10
I'd like to find a player that can play AAC file (ipod).
I tried Nero ShowTime Mobile which is good but doesn't stop correctly when you get a phone call
Is there a way to play AAC file with WMP10?
Hi guys!
I tried TCPMP and it's really nice but...
I'd like the player in "pause" when I receive an incomming call and with TCPMP I can't find the option to configure it... seems to continue to play but with no sound.
How does it works?
Talking about TCPMP.
A fiend of mine gave me an MP4 movie file which he had on his PSP.
I figured as TCPMP plays MP4's it would be as simple as transferring it onto my device and playing via TCPMP.
It works in the sense that i get great video, but there is no audio.
I get the following message at the beginning:
AUDIO CODEC (MPEG4 AAC AUDIO) Not supported by the player. Decoder was removed from the official install package.
Is there anything I can do to resolve the audio with this player. Or should I use another player?
That problem would be fixed if you had the same codec that Namelous is after (3 posts up). TCPMP comes with the MP4 video decoder, but need the AAC audio decoder to run, as most MPEG-style movies are encoded with separate video and audio. If you were to rip a movie to your hard drive from a dvd to Mpeg 2, more often than not you'd have audio encoded in MP3, so you'd need both the Mpeg 2 and MP3 codecs on your system.
Good luck finding an AAC codec for PPC. If you do, please let me know as I've been looking too!
What about Soundexplorer? (obviously not for video...). It also records sound (much players don't). I like it very much.
Looks like PocketMusic has an AAC plugin.
Haven't tried this program yet, but would love feedback if anyone does (like does it pause music on an incoming call, how is the equilizer, bass boost, overall usability, etc.?)
Thanks in advance!

Okay, I went ahead and downloaded the trial version on my MDA Pro and like it a lot! Doesn't play movies of course, but the equilizer is pretty good, and it pauses your tunes on incoming calls. Other features like mapping to the hardware buttons, big finger-sized screen buttons, skins, cross-fading, and an alarm clock make it nice.
AAC Plugin...

It's illigal in some countries, but when you are not living in them you can try this.
I know this has probably been listed in the past, but what MP3/Media Player do you use?
If possible, include a link to where it can be downloaded.

Is there any player with the balance meter (left/right)?
Sure TCPMP is the best at playing all sort of media
When I can't see a video on my pc, 80% chances are that TCPMP will read it
And it has a lot of features eg. the speed of playback, equalizer.. With the last one u can even boost up the loudspeaker volume!
Finally, it's rather simple to use: with hotkeys for everything u can do anything...
Only drawback is poor quality of 3gp playback and no midi at all: but I'm using album app for these
Saluti, MocciJ
PocketMusic for mp3's (skinable and has a nice equaliser function) and BetaPlayer for video (simple and I convert everything to DivX and it handles them with no probs)
Are yo able to playback fullsize Divx files smoothly in TCPMP.
I have a Magician and if I stream 720x480 divx video over wifi on playback from a SD card the video will always stutter. I get about 10s and then it pauses. Seems like a buffer issue.
Are there any tweaks for TCPMP or will overclocking the Magician help?
TCPMP for videos and MortPlayer for MP3s with my A2DP headset.
Gsplayer by greensoftware [freeware]. Turns screen automatic off, functions can be mapped to hardware buttons.

full sized 700mb divx movie files play fine running from SD on my magician (using tcpmp)
But ill normally resize and reencode, but it is handy being able to run stuff without encoding first, if theres not time to do etc.
Yes I know - midi playback? But it's old! I use Guitar Pro to come up with compositions and I find its wav export to be...well, crap. So I use midis. I was hoping to play them back on my phone to someone to get some feedback but windows media player only seems to play an acoustic guitar for the various parts - not the full range of instruments. I tried GSPlayer, which produced no sound, and karPocket, which, although it played the midi, kept crashing and the only way to stop it playing back was to kill it in task manager.
Does anyone know of a decent midi player for WinMo?
Edit: Also, does anyone know of a good portable media player, or if it's possible to load windows media player up with codecs? Wanted to watch some poker videos on the bus to work but WMP couldn't play them, and I've had hit-and-miss experiences with TCPMP before - for example, it just plain not working.
I have an old Leo laying around and I was wondering if there is any ROM out there that would turn my phone into an mp3 player.
Probably best going with a very light WM6.5.5 build & then using native music player or one of a few music apps such as MortPlayer to name a free one.
Sticking with WM will give good battery life & ability handle music over BT, audio output jack etc ...
File Formats?
But the question is, does it play flac and other formats?

work fine on my wm6.5.5 energy rom, some HD2 owners on original roms had issues with Pocket player regardless of portable or cab install.
Well thanks for the info but I had installed android 2.3.7 on my phone. How am I supposed to install that windows ROM now?
Plenty of mp3 player support for android but I expect WM6 rom will give far better battery life & device life/stability & WM file structure is far more tidy than android making your music - media folders on storage card easy to maintain organise & browse if connect to share etc.
WM6 roms can be found in HD2 wiki along with WMDC to flash via PC.
If you go to WM6, I would try the Energy Reference ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD2#ROM_Development
OK, but how do I flash these roms over android. I've installed HSPL, Magldr and a custom recovery?
just plug it in to PC via usb & run the WM rom installer, it will flash the rom but your current HSPL will remain.
You could also flash a custom WM rom such as ->
energy http://www.mediafire.com/download/bhh47jlowm9zph6/Energy.Leo.23699.Sense2.5.Reference.Nov.24.7z
by putting the file on sd card & possibly using custom recovery or the good old fashioned way of boot to proper tri-color bootloader. using custom rom via SD will keep HSPL but if use full original rom it will remove current HSPL and possibly fail to flash if CID rom code does not match device.
If do via SD read post linked below>

Well thanks, I'll try it and let you know.
I find pocket player very good, you do need spend some time trying it though & adjusting settings as it quality software with many options unlike most of the android & iphone 5h1te of today.
I have the pocket player equalizer off & use the native HTC equalizer on custom setting & sound quality is superb on decent headphones & can shame most of the midrange modern junk.
Touch UI may not be the best on WM6.5.5 but it not bad & gets better with experience, same with Pocket Player, it may look visually dated but the actual software is proper quality ...
Why not use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867986 you then could have a light Android OS with the option of a good sat nav and a music player
I had put my HD2 away for a while now and thought I could use it as a mp3 (aux) for my car. Navigation is going to be a plus if it works.
Any suggestions for a good nav/maps app which can work with just gps and preloaded maps?
