SMS files on the device? ready to code if someone got info - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi everybody , any idea of how I can backup the file containing all my sms boxex (in and out)
and after reseting upgrading etc I cant settled (or import) them back .?
I'm ready to try to write a program with VS that can be useful to everybody
if someone can show me the way
Where to start from ?
PS : i can't synchronize anymore but i can put a .cab on my SD card
Please give some clue ...
Thanks
PS : even if i can't put them back it will be enough if i just can save them !

Laurent4xs: if you don't have any idea where to start, it's likely to be a relatively messy project to start.
Exporting is actually very (relatively) easy - just open up the POOM com object and parse through the inbox (or any other) folder. I'm surprised no one has written this yet (AFAIK), it'd be quite straight forward to export as a CSV that we could edit in Excel.
Importing I guess might be slightly more long winded, but basically reverse the process creating mail items imported from the csv fields.

also have a look at Jeyo Mobile Companion
http://www.jeyo.com/companion.asp
works perfectly to backup and restore sms

thank's for your reply guys...
yeah, Bartjan, i've heard of Jeyo but it does just one part of the job...
what when this foolish ActiveSync thing decide not to work anymore ...
and that all you have to do is resetting the Rom...
that's why even if I think i'm going to use Jeyo's software soon,
I will nevertheless have a need for such a "custom" tool !
And vijay555 or someone else out there, if it is not a abuse , will it be possible for you to send just a skeleton.
I don't ask you to do the all job; just a skeleton and may be the firt part (exporting) as it is the easiest and won't take too much of your time..
yes simply a structure with the project and it's settings so from there i just need a little of my brain and try to cop with my coding skill..

Laurent,
I want to try to write an app to do this myself, when I've got time. I had to write the POOM interface already for VJEphemeris's SMS reader:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I actually got help from another guy on Modaco I think, but rewrote all the code in the end anyway.
I suggest you read a nice book on POOM, since it's HORRIBLE to look at, but the theory falls into place when you read about it clearly. So a chunk of code won't help you too much until you know why it works. MSDN has a series of 4 articles or so on the subject that are essential reading, and PocketPCDN was very good and the external links to DevBuzz or something were essential also.
If I can get some time, I'll try to knock something together.
This is all just an excuse to say I've not tried any file i/o yet

Thanx man,
I will get a look on all these you pointed.
Sincerly,

there is a software called Back up SMS..Which works perfectly try to do a search in this forum

XDA II: Assigning different ringtones to different contacts

Does anyone know if this can be done on the XDA II?
One of the third party software that I used for this purpose is MTUX RintoneX. Have a look at www.mtux.com
Like Chriswo I too use RingToneX to add that missing feature of user assignable ringtones to my XDA II. It's isn't freeware but it does work well and is easy to use.
Any sign of a freeware application to do this simple task alone anyone?
RinTonex
Dear Criswo and Ednap,
to use RinTonex did had to unistall the IA software or can you get the picture from the IA SW and the ring from RinTonex?
Thanks!
Chris
P.S.: also, have you tried other appications for this purpouse? Why do you think that RinTonex is better than the other available...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=522&highlight=
IA Caller ID doesn't need to be uninstall. RingtoneX can work on top of IA Caller ID after all, one sees the numbers and find the matching PHOTO, and the other sees the number and find the matching Ringtone. They can work together.
THANK YOU!!!
WOW!
This is what I wanted to hear!!! :lol:
I wasn't sure both SWs could see the caller at the same time!
I undestanding you have used this combination and it worked! :wink:
Thanks!
Chris
Exactly like chriswo says, they can work side by side and all OK
does ne 1 have the serial for ringtonex ???

plz don't post keygens & hacks on this forum.
There are other places for them, and nobody wants to risk the closing of this one.
Time and Place for everything. I am sure we all might know places to get keygens and hacks for various needs.
However, this forum is NOT the place for it. There are other places to post that.
A moderator should remove the postings as soon as possible.
There is no other place even remotely like XDA-Developers. To get it shut down because somebody has no class would be really pathetic.
Give Phonext a try, it is free and does what the OP wants: assign a ringtone to a contact. You'll find it here:

Although the website states it is for PPC2002 it runs on WM2003 on my MDA I.

Ok, sorry
Phonext on my SX56
I can't run the "SetupPhonExt_PPC2002.exe" on my XDA. is it because its the ATT version? I unlocked it by switching to PPC2002 w/ the unlock in the ROm, then reflashing w/ WM2003. I copied the file over, and it can't install. Is there something i'm missing? It says it is not a valid application.

V1640 today plugins

Hi.
I want to use the today plugins off the v1640 ROM but on a QTEK ROM - does anyone know which files I need off the Voda ROM to get it working on the QTEK one?
I've had a look but can't spot anything.
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Look at the ext-ROM of this ... ... v1640 ROM and determine (smart guessing) the CAB files that is responsible for the plugin. just copy this over to your phone and install it.
Tried that and not had any success yet - anyone else know?
Just for more info - I've run every single file in the extended_rom of the v1640 on a qtek ROM and these haven't been added.
So the question now is, what kind of files am I looking for in the base rom and how do i register them to appear in the list of possible plugins?
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Just in case anyone is interested, I managed to work out what files and registry entries were needed to get these working on other ROMs.
It would be handy actually to be able to put these in a cab file - are there any idiot's guides for doing this?
In the meantime, if anyone else wants to know, reply to this or PM me
You just list the registry stuff here and the necessary files, someone (or I, if I have the time) to cook up a CAB for you.
BTW, good if you can include a screen shot of this wonderful plugin, to get attention
Sorry, can't do that - the techy in me won't allow me to let someone else do it for me Just give me a name of some software and i'll go and work out the rest ;-)
If it takes me too long, I might give it up though and post 'em ;-)
Ta,
Smiffy.
Could you please post a screenshot of that Today plug-in ? I'm a bit curious as I, for many reasons, switched my SFR/Vodaphone v1640 straight to WWE ROMs when I got ahold of it and I didn't think I might have missed something actually good.
Thanks !
Let's just remember that I never said it was good, just something I wanted in case you're all completely under-whelmed
It's just different plugins for messages and calendat entries and they're icons...maybe I just wanted to be different
Here ya go
And just so you know, despite the plugins and wallpaper, this is the QTEK rom

No, you're right, it's actually quite cool... Even though I'm not sure I'd see much of these icons in TrueVGA...
Thanks for the screen-shot. I wouldn't mind if you posted your manipulations here, too.

Try the googling for `WinCE CAB Manager`

Palm messaging clone

I recently got a Cingular 8525 and really want the threaded features that the Palm application seems to provide. I've looked around a little bit and found nothing compelling for free or for sale. Everything I've seen so far is bloated (.NET), buggy, or ugly. No offense intended.
I'm proficient in C++ and have written some PPC 2003 applications in the past so I'm going to roll my own program in my free time.
These may not all be possible but my goals for the first release are:
Plays nice with Pocket Outlook (messages and their state (new, read appear in both places)
Integration with Notifications (display message and launch application in the usual manner upon receipt of a message)
Integration with Contacts application
Proof of concept design (SMS only, minimalist interface)
I'll then post it and the source code and see what additions and visual enhancements poeple want most.
First:
All I've seen of the Palm application are some screenshots on engadget. Would someone with the Palm application be willing to send me a series of detailed screen shots showcasing their favorite UI features?
I can tell when a UI is done well and when an application looks good, but I'm no good at coming up with stuff myself.
I only ask about UI features now to help me architect things in a way to make help me more easily implement features people want later.
Second:
Are any developers out there able to point me in the right direction for the Pocket Outlook and Contacts integration stuff? I'm currently reading a ton of documentation searching for this and a pointer might speed things up considerably.
Finally:
If there's already an open project doing the same thing I'd rather improve that than make my own. Does anyone know of one?
the official palm messaging app has been extracted and ppl have been working on getting it to play nice with most wm5 devices. check out:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/palm-threaded-sms-program-for-wm5-beta-4-update-11-21-t978.html
This is where all the action's going on. you can get a copy of the app by PM ing the ppl there. It works very well with the TyTN and interfaces very nicely.
anyone have any more screenshots of the palm messager? I'ld like to see it before i take the plunger
Take the plunger, lol...
Found these on another site. Remember tho, Palm has asked us not to distribute the app. Please respect their authority

OneHand Applauncher

Hey guys,
over the last few days I've gotten so annoyed that I can't use my phone (Vario II) with only one hand so I decided to do something about it. Therefore I started to go nuts in Photoshop and Visual Studio and have so far managed to get this far:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The buttons work and the time is correct but I haven't done the appointments bit yet (any hints on how to do this in VB.net?). If anyone is interested I might release this when I get everything to work, for example the paths to the apps are currently hardcoded, I want OneHand to load them from a xml-file so they can easily be changed later on.
The icons are Crystal Clear btw, included in most Linux distros and released under the LGPL license so they are free to distribute.
Any ideas/suggestions?
EDIT: Oh, and the idea is to add submenus with large icons etc to some buttons such as messaging, settings, web, games, music. Eg so you tap Messaging, then you can chose to write a new text/mms/email and check the inbox of each. Sort of like Spb Mobile Shell but hopefully a bit more configurable..
It is very nice. Something to different to look at that is not aye-Fone-ish.
Although I like the appointment part very much, probably you might not want to go on the appointment section first, as it seems for most people it is not a priority (for me, I use Pocket Breeze, for Task+App up to 7 days ahead). From what it seems, others are looking for things like .. battery, signal strength, number of missed call/sms/voice-mail. You may want to check the ayeFone launcher for users comments as well as methods they used to get into some of the inforamtion.
For other ideas, try looking at the 'Prada' phone interface. Do a search at YouTube to see how the Prada phone interface behave.
For much interesting interface, try YouTubing for 'Neonode' as well.
The Prada phone interface looks very inteesting. Might try to emulate some of those functions. Currently I find the Windows Mobile interface to be pretty much unusable for a phone. Everything is way too small and cluttered. Ill fire up Photoshop and see what I can come up with
BTW, almost forgot about this. Take a look at this program "rlToday". Go to its official website, look at all the possible 'skin' people are using. From what it seems, it can produce the interface you've shown above (big buttons to launch apps) and clock (without the appointment part) BUT, it also ables to show how many missed call, SMS, etc.
Thought you might want to know this to avoid making duplicated efforts. Happy coding.

iPhone theme -very easy to install/use and most important download :)

I don't know if I am breaking any laws of this forum - if so, I would ask moderators and admins to delete this post ASAP.
I am not inventor or maker of this - I just found it somewhere on the internet and figured to share with my Wizard family here.
It shows very good iPhone look a like skin...
Try it out for yourself and let us know what was your experience.
PS. Read me file is a MUST to read!!!

Can we have screenshots?
Here ya go guys
First scrshot is main screen - then I have installed iPhone dialpad and PocketCM contact manager - I have included all three. I couldn't get scrshot of Slide unlock thing but you know how it looks on iPhone.

you can see I got two different times showed on first two pictures. Thats cuz of iPhone skin itself - it was 3:16am when I took the pictures ...
They working on it to find a way to fix it - but as of right now - I am still using my good old WM5

Not sure I understand what this thread is all about? It seems to have been posted today (or have I got this wrong?) but points to software which has been being used for months and referred to in various threads?
Is there something I am missing here or have you actually published an .ini file somewhere which lets users use all those icons (by pointing the iTunes icon to windows media player etc)? Or have you managed to get the sking to run on start up or have you managed to get the slider to hog less memory?
Please tell us what is going on in this thread!
