I've just bought a 2gb 120x Moby Memory SD for my MDA Compact...and the it does not recognise it.Upon insertion it says it wants to format the card and says it formatted successfully. However I can not find the card in 'file explorer' or 'memory'. When I look in 'About/Version' it says the expansion slot is in use.
After speaking with Tech Support at Moby (Excellent) - We swapped it out for a 1Gb 80x SD card (their own)...and the same problem.
T-Mobile support is ...chocolate teapot comes to mind!
Out of the box rom: 1.01.00 WWE (21/10/04)
Has anyone got any ideas about this one (greatly appreciated)

I don't know that I can comment on your specific problem, as I have a cheap 1GB SD card that works without issues. Your ROM seems to be really old, however, and you would benefit tremendously by upgrading to the 1.11 or 1.12 versions (1.11 is extremely stable and seems to be a crowd favorite). I don't know if it will resolve your SD issues, but it should at least improve other aspects of the phone. (stability, call quality, bluetooth functionality, and camera quality)
Little Survey...
Okay...i've upgraded my rom to the imate Jam 1.12 from club imate site on my MDA Compact to see if the SD card problem goes away....NO it doesn't. This is really frustrating...and the JAM rom is not as good as the tmobile one with periodic slow downs and already one reset.
Anyway folks, I want to see if I can get some correllation with rom and SD cards. So a mini survey for you all. If you have a T-mobile (originally) MDA compact and use an SD card let me know:
Current ROM Make?
Current ROM Version?
SD Card Make/Model/Capacity?
Any problems with other SD cards?
I will publish a summary for everyone later.
P
sd card
i don't have a tmobile compact,
rather a qtec s100, although I got a TMobile manual in my box..
anyway, i have a 2gb 150x speed ADATA SD Card and I have exactly the same problem. If you browse this forum you will see there is one or two more other topics about the exact same issue.. dont think its anything to do with a specific vendor pda i.e. o2 / tmobile.... but rather a jam thing.
I don't think they currently recognise the latest sd cards, although, i've been told they do recognise the 2gb ultra disk from moby memory retailing at about £133.
So, we can either wait for the ROM upgrade to include the latest stuff, or swap or sell the cards and buy another one.. i'm probably doing the latter to be honest as i just cant wait.
ANyway, if you do find the problem, please let me know.
Regards,
Bushmen

Have SanDisk SD 512mb, 100% fine from day one till now.
They don't seem to recognise the 2gb Moby SD...because that was my initial purchase. Then I downgraded to the 1gb. They are going to send me another 1gb from a different manufacturer. Moby are having a few of these problems cropping up.

Do the cards work fine in a PC card reader?
Does "formatting" on the MDA cause the card to be unreadable on the PC (until you reformat it on the PC)?
If so, these are the exact symptoms found on some early Magicians. If the card works in a PC, then it's a fault on the Jam/MDA, not the card, although the fault does vary by card brand. If you don't get the MDA swapped out, you could end up with it randomly wiping your card. See http://www.expansys.com/forumthread.asp?code=I-MATE_JAM&thread=153
If you don't have a PC card reader to test - get one (make sure it's USB2). Life is not long enough to transfer 2GB by activesync!

My cards:
Apacer 1gb-no problems
Sandisk Ultra 2gb-no problems
Sandisk 1gb (regular)-no problems
For the moment it looks like if you want a 2gb card that works in your Jam, you'd better get the Sandisk Ultra 2gb.

I can confirm, it works on my HTC Magician too, formated with Fat32 on my PC and pluged into the Magician and have full capacity available! Already filled up with 1.4GB of data (TomTom Maps mostly) Really seems the only 2GB SD card working on the Magician

1GB Magu SD Card 120x Hi-speed, dint work on MDA Compact.
Works fine on PC Card reader. But shows prompt for "Format" on MDA. When formatted, it does not show in File Explorer, but About Box says explansion slot in use. This card works fine on my Orange SPV (1st model).
I am trying for 512MB 60x speed Toshiba card.
Transcend 4Gig works on Jam - WITH SHIM
The JAM is famous for having innaccurate "travel" in its SD contact mechanical design. SD cards that are not thick enough will give this symptom. The fix is to add a "shim" of plastic or paper to the contact side of the SD card.
I use the sticky part of a PostIt note. Cover the entire card area except the contacts at the bottom. Contact side only. The Transcend 4 gig card is too thin, but adding the trusty PostIt fix now allows me to use this huge ($100) card with no problems. Hope this hack fixes your SD issues too - chuse...
Hi...I'm one of the ones that has suffered from 2gb cards not working in my Tmobile MDA Compact.
I'm likely to upgrade in the next 6 months to the Wizard and was going to buy a 1gb mini sd with adaptor.
Has anyone used these with the magician, and if so, do they all work or do I have to stick with sandisk ultra II's?
Yes, I have a 256mb mini sd card in my magician (with adapter) the phone doesn't see it any different.
Thanks Furby....anyone else had any problems...anyone used a 1gb mini sd in particular, and if so, which brand?
I am using a Sandisc 1 gb minisd on my magician, and it all works fine! Hopefully the 2gb minisd work also (heard theye where hispeed ones )
I'm using a generic 512MB card I bought originally for my C500.
min sd card
I am using a mini sd 1gb scan disk in my m500 and mda vario. No issues so far.
T-Mobile supplies a 256MB Mini-SD with their branded version of the HTC Magician, called the MDA Compact....
It works perfectly, although i find it strange they provided a Mini-SD rather then cheaper SD's.
Can't be T-mobile UK supplying the SD cards, as they never supplied one with any of the 6 we bought here at work!
neither have they supplied any Mini-SD's for the Varios that have been bought!
Using Apacer SD 1gig, minor problem sometimes could not detect the card. need to reinsert once a while.
I have just purchased a Sanddisk ultra ll 1.0gb storage card.
It works fine in my digital camera but when inserted into my spv m600 the device wont recognise it.
Is there a storage card limitation with the prophet and if so is there a way round it ?
I have similar problem with SD card Transcend 2 Gb x150. When I got 2 Gb TwinMOS x66 problem disappeared. I think the problem is the too high speed of card. Probably they can’t work at speed which is sufficient for Prophet.
Card problem?
Anybody else had sucess with the Transcend 2gb card x150? I was thinking of purchasing the 4gb version, at same speed, but now I'm not sure I want to waste my money.
Anybody else have a 4gig, can you name brand and speed pls?
I have used both the sandisk 1gb ultra II card and the sandisk 2 gb. Both work fine in my I-mate jamin. The ultra II is much faster, but i mostly use the 2gb card, cause I need more space. If they had a 2gb or 4 gb ultra II i would buy it also...I have also used the PNY 2 gb cards. They all work in my jasjar as well. But like i said, the ultra II works best.
You might need to re-format the card and then try it (not with the camera format option, but from the Jamin)
You can download a beta copy of pocket mechanic (good for 15 days without license) at www.antontomov.com go to forum and check pocket mechanic beta forum for latest version
Thanks eagle1
That's good news Eagle. What are the speeds of your two SD cards?
Anybody use a 4 gig non-sandisk card?
I'm using a Trandcend 150xSD 4 GB and it works great.
i am using an sandisk extreme III (150x) 1 GB and works great
Still no card showing
Thanks people for your posts and advice i have tried a few things including pocket mechanic but still have not managed to get my prophet to accept the Sandisk Ultra ll 1.0gb sd card.
If anyone comes up with a soloution or indeed has a SPV M600 with a working Sandisk Ultra ll 1.0gb please let me know.
Just off to e-mail Sandisk to see if they can help.
Thanks again for your posts.
It seems that high speed SD cards workability balanced on the edge with Prophet PDA’s. So best approach would be Try – Before – Buy. “Minor” problem would be to find store where this approach works for SD cards .
Has anyone tried A-Data 4gb 150x?
Has anyone tried A-Data 4gb 150x? I think this is the cheapest 4GB card out there, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried it on the prophet?
I have just started using a 4GB 'Topram 150x'. Seems to work OK, except can't directly save photos to the SD card. According to other posts, something to do with having more than 2GB of empty memory. However, can transfer photos from main memory to the SD card without any problems. Music and videos appear to store and play back without any problems

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7612649443&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:UK:11
Had a word with the staff in the local pc world to let me try before i buy but no go, they said they would not give me my money back either unless the card was faulty. Not that i would buy one from there with the price they charge.
Will keep you all posted on what card i get to work with my SPV M600.
I'm confused
I'm really confused. How can it be that a particular Sandisk 150x speed works, and another one doesn't? Or one 4gb high-speed works, the other doesn't? I can't seem to find a pattern here. Its just random.

My guess is the low speed threshold for high speed SD card actually randomly higher than the normal operation for Prophet hardware. In this case two high speed SD cards which are same type of same manufacture may have randomly different low speed threshold, what is out of concerns of manufacturer. Who would cares about low speed access ability? And now we have to go through risk of buying perfectly good SD card which may not work on our Prophet devices. I hate this.
Hi,
I'm using an Extrememory 2 GB and 4 GB SD-Card. No problems with my Jam aka Magician or XDA Neo aka Prophet.

Just found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7611242138 works out just under £60 for adata 4gb 200x MMC card which apparently has better compatibility.
I upgraded the ROM and I can now save my photos directly to the SD card as long as the picture resolution is 640 x 480 or less. For the higher resoltion photos I have to save to main memory. Can anyone make any sense of this?
Otherwise I am having no problems with the SD card. I am not about to go and buy another one, so I will just use my workaround of saving no main memory and copying to rthe SD card when memory is low.
Anybody know if This PDA can support 4GB miniSD?
Thanks.
The Wizard is miniSD compatible. miniSD is derived of the SD specification that support up to 2GB memory cards. 4GB cards are SDHC compatible derived of the SDHC specification. For this reason 4GB memory cards are not compatible with the wizard neither with TyTN. I don't know any 4GB miniSD card from any fame manufacturer.

Hello EgemenBor,
Not 4GB SD but 4GB miniSD card on a MDA Vario (or Wizard, Qtek 9100, Imate K-Jam), right?
Thanks
Nope, but maybe a generic product works, look this link:
http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=miniSD_4096mb_MOBY_002
I don't trust on non branded products then I can not respond your question. but is important to know that neighter fame manufacturer has 4GB miniSD cards for sale (ex. SanDisk, Kingston, etc).
From that SanDisk article:
2. Look for SDHC logo on card and packaging itself
a. GB SD cards without SDHC logo are non-compliant with the SDA 2.00
specification.

Notice, they say "non-compliant" and NOT "non-existent." They are obviously cow-towing to device manufacturers here, plus expecting us to foot the bill!
The problems I've heard of with these cards are:
1.) They don't last as long. (Neither did 3.5" Low-Density Floppy Disks when formatted as High-Density, but I've still got a few originals hanging around that work....) It would be great to know what proccess they were using to create these drives as opposed to the 2GB ones....
2.) The card may need to be repartitioned into 2-2GB drives. (See this thread)
please remember that just because it doesn't meet the new standard, doesn't mean it doesn't work with the older standard-devices
I, for one, am grateful there are vendors serving this sub-market, even though the major players are moving on!
Thanks Blazoner.
Anybody have a miniSD 4GB card on a Wizard, that works well?
Thanks

I have 2 mobymemory cards 2gb and 1 gb both work v well - if mobymemory say this 4gb card will work i trust them - i will most likely get one!
I have said all along that i think a 4gb mini-sd card will work in the wizard as a 4gb sd card works in a prophet and they really have v similar roms. 4gb even works in a magician and that has an even older rom.
I base myself on what SanDisk says in this link in red:

T-Mobile MDA Vario
(Mobile Phones)
Maximum capacity for this device: May support up to 2GB
Please check with your device manufacturer for details.
Also, SanDisk doesn't manufacture 4GB minisd cards. I have learned to pay attention to what SanDisk says
It would be necessary to check if to use more than 2gb works ok with the Wizard with this 4gb minisd card. Unfortunately I am in America and I don't have access to mobymemory devices.

How long did it work ok? try formatting it on the device using sktools or storage tools
Take a look at this thread. It describes this problem and it's solutions in detail. Just read miniSD instead of SD.
Remember, it can still be compatible with the current standard, even if it doesn't comply with the new standard.

Hi,
I receive my new miniSD 4GB card... but my Wizard don't recognize it!
Is a new SDHC and even my laptop with a pcmcia reader card (old) don't recognize too! But I think card is OK because with my Sanyo Xacti C6 work well!
What can I do? Can I make 2x 2GB partitions FAT 16... maybe Wizard work?
Thanks
well my phone isn't reading the memory card and when I try to access it via a card reader on my pc nothing happens...just gets stuck..could it be that the card is dead?
I've had the problem for the past week or so...the card in general was really slow I.e. uplaoding files and accessing the card on my pc would take a while..
I try format miniSDHC 4GB card with 2 partitions 2GB FAT16 but Wizard don't recognize it! Even my old pcmcia card reader can't "see" it! At laptop only work with a card reader that works with SDHC!
Any Help?
Thanks
By this experience, I think Wizard can't read any miniSDHC card unless HTC make a firmware update (will do sometime?) to support this new standard SDHC!
Anybody have better good news?
But, I can't understand why Qtek 9000 and S200 can read SD 4GB, like some persons report it!!!
Thanks
I read in several forums that the new mini sdHC cards can be read only on mini sd 2.0 compliant phones.
Is that the case for the trinity?
There is a dll on the device called sdhc_....dll
It look likes there is support voor sdhc.
I don't have a sdhc card. I can't confirm it is working.
I have a 4GB Mini SDHC Card by Transcend (www.transcend.de). Until now I don't get it to work. I bought a HAMA 1000&1 Card-Reader, but it is not able to format the Card. So I brought it back to the store. There I could format the Card with a new digital camera by panasonic. The 4 GB MiniSDHC worked well in that camera. Back in my Trinity P3600 nothing happens. I tried Pocket Mechanic and SK Tools and Resco, but the Card is not visible. In the Registry I found SDHC mentioned. But it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Uh oh, I just ordered one in the US for $66. from newegg.com, which is a good price, but only if it works! The 4gb mini SD from Moby Memory is generic with no label. I wonder if it is really SDHC???? I am fairly confident though that the Trinity will support the SDHC 4gb mini SD soon through ROM upgrade, if it doesn't already. It has entries for them in the registry already. Otherwise I guess I'll have to get the other card .

I purchased a 4 GB Transcend miniSDHC card, upon reading & then seeing that some SDHC parameters were in Trinity registry. However, the card is NOT recognized yet by my new Trinity.
After trying various registry changes in the SDHC area, I still could not make it read the card. I did succeed in making a ver 1 miniSD card unreadable with those SDHC reg changes though, which means maybe we're on the right track. This also tells me that most likely, a compatible device will work for either miniSD or miniSDHC, but not both at the same time. Maybe a registry wizard here will find a way to make Trinity see the miniSDHC cards.
HTC says officially that Trinity with WM5 can accept up to 12 GB miniSD, without mentioning miniSDHC. It seems reasonable HTC may enable SDHC & GPS in the future. However, keep in mind, HTC has not even fixed BT stereo in the Trinity ROM, so we continue to wait & hope.
In the world of miniSD cards, there is ver 1 miniSD standard. (Sandisk is original inventor of flash memory & helps develop International standards) The max miniSD ver 1 standard is actually 2 GB officially.
There are UNOFFICIAL 4 GB miniSD cards, based on ver 1 standard, but NOT accepted as ver 1 standard produced cards, that exist & carry 4 GB miniSD working formatted memory. There are also FALSE 4 GB miniSD cards, that have been re-stamped as 4 GB, but orginally were 2 GB miniSD. Then, they were reformatted for 4 GB, but that process corrupts the memory. Depending on the device, the false miniSD cards either give incorrect readings or corrupt when used with a read-write process. Some apparently work a short time but then corrupt after normal repeated read-write device process use.
The new miniSD ver 2 standard is called miniSDHC. These will be capable of memory 4 GB up to 32 GB. The first miniSDHC & SDHC cards are just now being made available. (coming 2007) Ver 2 miniSDHC is NOT backwards compatible with ver 1 miniSD devices, except in some rare cases where a device firmware upgrade may apply. The 4 GB miniSDHC ver 2 standard, is the only official real 4 GB miniSD card & most current devices can't use it.
The 4 GB miniSD cards sold at Mobymemory (UK) & ebay are either the UNOFFICIAL 4 GB miniSDs or FALSE 4 GB miniSDs mentioned above. One member here claims that a 4 GB miniSD from Moby works in a Trinity, but you can be assured, it's not a real 4 GB miniSDHC ver 2 standard card.

Read the above posts about compatibility. If you have the Transcend 4 GB miniSDHC, that card will NOT work in the Trinity. There is NO confirmation from HTC that a miniSDHC (ver.2.0) will work with a firmware upgrade in the future. Even though the miniSDHC fits in the Trinity slot, it may need different slot hardware to read it. Let's hope the SD controller already there in Trinity can support a firmware upgrade.
If you look around you may be able to find a 4 GB miniSD (Industry Standard version 1.0). Most of the ones on ebay & Amazon are fake though. When I find a confirmed source for a 4 GB miniSD (ver.1.0), I'll post it here.
I have read them and I understand. I only asked because from the previous posts, it wasn't clear whether or not the Trinity can read the MiniSDHC v2.0 cards.

Support: HTC P3600
What is the maximum SD card size compatible with my device?
For Win CE 2003 =>General for SDIO is 1GB.
For WM 5.0 => SD Card is 4GB and Mini-SD is 12GB"
Matterhorn said: "Well, someone knows for sure, the guys writing the firmware ROMs. I
suspect it is just a matter of time before a ROM update comes along that will allow the use
of SDHC cards since the entries are already in the current ROM."
1. Notice that almost ALL phones on HTC site say the same thing about SD & miniSD limit. It is based on WM5 & WinCE2003 specs, which HTC phones use, a generalization.
2. IF HTC has SD controller hardware (memory slot interface) in Trinity, that can be enabled by a firmware upgrade to recognize & read SDHC, then as Matterhorn said, we should get a ROM upgrade to make this possible.(nobody knows & not confirmed by HTC, but we can
hope.)
If HTC doesn't have the SD controller that's amendable to firmware upgrade, then a new hardware build of Trinity would have to be released.
3. It's interesting that Trinity registry entries exist for SDHC, but it's still a mystery for now. Also, there are supposedly 4 GB miniSD cards (based on Industry Standard 1.0 or non-compliant) that exist, but I'm not able to confirm one that is genuine & safe to use
in Trinity yet. (if someone is, please give details)
4. Good news...bad news---
good-4 GB SDHC can use fat32, is faster than old regular ver 1.0 or 1.1 Standard----
bad-reportedly, the new SDHC cards will be 3X cost of the regular ones.
5. Compatibility
* SDHC Host Products can use both SD and SDHC Memory Cards.
* SD Host Products can use only SD Memory Card 2GB or less.
Is Trinity a SDHC host product or SD host product? THE BIG QUESTION (no SDHC logo on box)
The new SD format, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity), allows capacities in excess of 2GB (4GB to 32GB)[2]. SDHC USES THE SAME FORM FACTOR as SD, but the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing).
6. Feeling Confused? Here's why:
The following compatibility issues between SD and SDHC cards and devices can arise:
Devices that do not specifically support SD2.0/SDHC do not recognize SDHC memory cards.
Some manufacturers have produced 4GB SD cards that do not conform to the SD2.0/SDHC, which are incompatible with existing SD devices, and are also incompatible with SDHC devices. As of late 2006, the simultaneous availability of non-standard 4GB SD and 4GB SDHC cards,
and the incompatibilities between SD and SDHC have caused a great deal of confusion among consumers looking to buy memory for various devices.
4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices. The SDHC logo is supposed to ensure compatibility.
SDHC readers and other devices are supposed to be backwards compatible with SD cards.
SDHC cards have SD Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class
Ratings specify the following minimum sustained write speed for SDHC cards: Class 2: 2 MB/s, Class 4: 4 MB/s
Class 6: 6 MB/s.
The SD 2.0 (SDHC) specification is with access speed up to 20MB/sec. The maximum capacity of SD card is 2GB under SD 1.1 of Secure Digital Alliance (SDA) specification; however, by using file format of FAT32, many SD 1.1 host devices can use 4GB SD card.
SD 1.0/1.1 uses traditional "Byte Addressing" scheme which limits the maximum capacity to 4GB while SD 2.0 adopts "Sector Addressing" scheme which is the same with the technique applied by Mu-Card Alliance in 2004 to reach the maximum capacity of 2TB (2048GB). SDHC
cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices.
7. SD and SDHC - compatibility---In summary:
The new SD format, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity), allows capacities in excess of 2GB (4GB to 32GB). SDHC uses the same form factor as SD, but compatibility is not complete in either direction. The SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method
(sector addressing vs byte addressing), causing devices that do not specifically support SD 2.0 / SDHC to fail to recognize the memory cards. Making the issue more confusing is the fact that some manufacturers have produced SEMI-NONSTANDARD 4GB SD cards. These cards are incompatible with SD devices that don't support the larger formats, and are also incompatible with many SDHC devices, because they don't conform to the SD 2.0 spec for High Capacity memory cards. As of late 2006, the simultaneous availability of non-standards 4GB
SD and 4GB SDHC cards, and the incompatibilities between SD and SDHC have caused a great deal of confusion among consumers looking to buy memory for various devices.

You little Devil ...came up with good info.
My observation is that the 4gb mini SD cards sold by Moby Memory must be FAT32 formatted normal SD standard. Several people have reported that they work fine in the Trinity. I currently use a 4gb "SD" card in my Prophet that has worked perfectly for a year now. It is formatted as FAT 32 and I have reformatted it using Windows XP with no problems. I did buy a Transcend SDHC 4gb mini SD card for $66. in the US (pretty cheap), but I won't see it until I arrive at my holiday destination. I guess I can be sure that it won't work in my Trinity (that's waiting for me also). So unless they come up with a ROM upgrade soon that fixes this SDHC compatibility problem, I'm going to order one of those Moby mini sds. I need 4gb for all my GPS maps and music, pictures etc.
