xda Mini S media player SD card question - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I've recently bought a 1 gig card for my XDA mini which has been working fine except for one annoying issue.
Almost every time I open the phone out of standby (black screen) it seems to open up into windows media player asking me to search the newly inserted card for media. The frist time I figuered fine no big deal, but it keeps doing it all the time and its getting very annoying.
Is there any way of stopping this? has anyone else had this problem??
Can anyone help me to sort this out??
Thanks, Sam

It sound like media player hasn't closed but is running in the background minimized, close it properly, goto control, memory and close it down.
I had the same, best to get an app that closes programs rather than the stupid smart my @[email protected] minimize.

Thanks Declan,
Can you recommend any, and the best place to download apps for windows mobile??

vBar & MagicButton are a couple of free apps which make the close button actually close rather than minimise.
Another is smartskey (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) , which also lets you remap the softkeys so that if you hold one down, rather then just press it, it'll bring up the start menu (left soft key) or OK/close (right soft key). Very useful.
Some software links:

www.handango.com
www.sbsh.net
Recommended (free) media player: TCPMP ( http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about ). Plays divx, xvid, etc etc.
Free encoder for the PC, to recode & shrink vids down to PDA resolution: http://divx.ppccool.com/
I got my XDA Mini S just over a week ago. Currently using smartskey, TCPMP, PHM Registry Editor, pRSS reader (all free), & also just bought PocketBreeze & iLauncher from SBSH (two fairly cheap, & *very* good, plugins. PB replaces the Calendar, Tasks, etc on the Today screen, iL is a launcher so you can put shortcuts on your Today screen).

Is there any today plugins for windows media player

Does anyone know of any today plugins for windows media player so that track information and controlling play/pause, next track etc can be done from the today screen.
I often find i start WMP, then while doing other things suddenly want to stop a tune playing etc, and have to go back into media player.
I know there's other programs like mort player that allow this, but is there any plugins for WMP.
I've tried PHM's pocket plus - http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/Plus/#PHMtWMP, but that doesn't seem to work with WMP10.
interested in this also... let me know if you find anything. thanks
been on a business trip and it's only now that i saw this post. here you go then; nice little app / today plugin that allows you to use your media player and control it from the today screen. it also gives you an extra option of displaying both battery and memory bars/indicators. the website is:
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/software/PPC_MP3_players.htm
scroll down and you'll "today player". clicking on it will give you this site:
http://www.todayplayer.com/
just copy the cab file and execute it through your unit. from there; go to today settings and click on the box to allow the plug in to appear on your screen. it gives you a play button, stop, previous and next songs, etc. the note icon on the left gives you a bunch of options; best of all it gives you an option of "lights off" meaning the media player will continue to play even if the screen is off. the 3-bar icon on the right gives you the options of loading playlists which you make through your media player. it also allows you to load folders for songs and such. it also shows you the song currently being played.
the only drawback i see is that it's limited to playing mp3 and ogg only. i have a bunch of wma files somewhere and i had to convert them to mp3. but other than that; i like it.
cheers
This is a stand alone player and it's very nice (had it on my iPAQ) tried this on my i-mate JAM before and had some display issues were in the player would not refresh properly... I don't think it has been fixed as dev't on this application has been stopped.

Thanks, I did take a look at this, but was hoping for one that was actually integrated into WMP and not standalone.

WMP 10 Today Plugin

Does anyone know of a Windows Media Player plugin for the today screen that works with version 10 of WMP. THe PHM plugin doesn't work with 10. Also I tried other programs like pocket music but they have bad integration with the operating system and voice command.
Thanks,
Daniel
Here it is...
WMP 10 plugin like IPOD with today screen plugin and portuguese operators configuration. If you do noy need install the 3 operators cab...inside
Thanks- I installed the .CAb but the today plugin only says "Play media files"- is it supposed to have controls- like Play, Stop , Next etc...
The Today Screen plugin opens WMP 10 with a IPOD Screen and on the screen, on the sides you have BIG controls that you can use .
I was looking for a plugin that allows you to control WMP from the today screen. Thanks anyway- also- i have a better Ipod skin that I uploaded here:
I accidently ran the optimus /cab and now my connections are screwed up-
how do I remove it?
FOUND ONE!!!
SPB Just released a perfect WMP Today plugin for WMP 10!!

Good find, thanks
Why don't you give mortplayer a try, the today plugin for is is great
I have to say that anything that's not WMP just isn't good for the pocket pc (in my opinion) because of the lack of integration with the OS. For example, when I get a call it stops my music, then when i'm finished it resumes playing. As far as I know only WMP does this. Also, all the other players are too fancy for me- I don't need all those controls- just Play,Pause, Volume, and Next/previous track.
Although- does anyone know how to map other buttons. When I try to map other buttons besides the 5 "joystick" buttons it goes to that function. For example, if I choose mute and press "assign" and then press the contacts button- it switches me to my contacts. Same thing for my camera, phone, calander etc...
Any ideas??
Thanks!
ps- I love the iPod skin too!! I got it a while ago and can't find it anymore due to copyright issues. Good thing I saved it on my HD!
I actually found a newer version while seeing if what I wrote was true-
Here you go!

pocketmind "pocket music" won't work!

i think the subject says it all!
Version 3.71 won't launch.
Subsequently, Conduits Pocket Player 2.61 will launch, but the playback is so slow and jittery, it either must be a dog on the processor, or this is where the limitation of the OMAP processor is revealed. Ouch.
uninstalled pocket music, but found files are still looking for it, may not have completely gone?
iMusic works!
http://imusic.citsoft.net/eng/main.asp
tried both imusic & conduits pocket player, imusic is very good but both lack a couple of facilities that pocket music had,
display off function & lock hardware buttons
Don't bother with iMusic, i was told it screws up the ringtone capability.
thanks for the advice,
i had a similar problem with pocket music with my old pda, and what helped was not to let the "auto associate files types" run during the install.
New Pocketmusic for WM5 out soon!
It will be in this month.

Subject: Pocket Music for PPC WM5?
Hello,
Please could you tell me when you will be releasing an updated version of PocketMusic for Windows Mobile 5?
It doesn’t work properly on WM5 at the moment and I think your player is the best out there!
Thanks

sorry to reply to myself, but you can set imusic to be able to turn off the display, and of course you can remove hard button controls.
:? my fault for not reading instructions

SOLUTION, just downloaded the 3.71 .exe from location 2, ran it, works with skins but GRAPHIC EQUALISER not holding fader positions, any ideas?

unless i am wrong, you can't turn the display off in the supplied media player.
if i am wrong please tell me.
Sure you can - you can assign it to a button within Windows Media Player's options.
The downside to it is that it doesn't even support soft keys! WTF?!

JAMin - free 'program memory' level continually dropping

Hi,
Tried to search for this but couldn't find it anywhere. Basically, as I use the apps on my JAMin day to day, I find that the free Program memory is continually dropping (and the 'in use' level is rising). I use the device mainly for playing MP3 (via WMP10), reviewing some Word documents (size of any new ones loaded is taken into account before complaining about losing space!), syncing with my Outlook calendar, phone calls, SMS and playing some games. I have not connected to the Internet to date. Even after simply playing music for 45-60 minutes I can see that the free program memory has reduced from what it was before I started playing the music!
Turning the device off then on clears this back (I usually have around 24Mb free). I installed Memmaid thinking this would identify the temporary files and clear them, however it only seems to pickup a few kB (though I only have the trial version loaded at present - is the trial version a full version, or could there be functionality missing?).
Any advice as to where this space is going, the file names or locations, etc. would be much appreciated. I'd like to find either an app that clears this space up properly, or to find where the files are so that I can clear them out myself as needed, without having to turn the device off.
At present, the only apps I have loaded onto the device are:
SPB PocketPlus
SPB ToPlay
Superdoku
Memmaid
I think Windows Media Players eats memory too much, just usless. I compared it with another Music Player such as GS player which is one of the best freely available music player. The WM10 ate abt 15 MB of memory for just playing an MP3 while on GS player it ate just 2.5 MB.
Maybe you can use attached program to find out which folder is creeping up with info...
The above program will only show you where your storage memory is. What the OP wanted to know is where his program memory is going.
I think its more or less a "feature" of Windows Mobile that as you open and close apps and work more and more on it, it will continually eat up ram. This is a gradual process and while I start with 24mb ram in the morning, I have around 17-18mb free by night time.
If you have a program installed which has a memory leak, this figure might be lower.
I have my device set to backup each night so it soft resets at night after the backup. This makes my phone fresh for the day with full program memory free.
A soft reset every now and then when you find your program memory low is a good idea. Other than that, there's not much you can do.
There are some programs which claim to free up some RAM, like Memmaid's Free up RAM program or SKTools's Clean Up Memory. These help to a very short extent...I find it better just to soft reset. Memmaid's program hardly works, while SKTools' program usually manages to free up around 2mb or something, although it takes a long time.
I was going to write what  PhoenixAG wrote. clap for him.
Storage memory is no problem but Program memory is a problem. And soft reseting is better then adding those programs to your mobile.
Try changing your mp3 player from WM10. it just leaks memory
I recall reading somewhere that it ws a good idea to do a soft reset on smart phones/PDAs every week or so anyway, so I guess I'll just keep doing that.
Now, to open a can of worms, what is a good MP3 player to replace WMP10 with? Probably no great free/shareware ones out there I suppose......
Thank you.
Regarding mp3 players, I haven't used my Prophet as an mp3 player because I have an iPod.
But I remember on my old Axim X30, I used to use Pocket Player...although that program was quite resource intensive, if I remember correctly. I have heard good things about Pocket Music too.
Other than that, I have no clue
Easy - just use Mortplayer - free and very useful, and you can put a skin that looks like an Ipod
how can i remove WMP10 ?
is there a good replacement for moves files ?
TCPMP is the best for both audio and video files, its freeware and u can download a lot of plugings like FFMPEG, VORBIS and AC3
hope this helps
Oh yeah, I forgot about TCPMP. I don't have a dedicated music player installed so I let TCPMP handle any audio files I have. And it handles Video excellently of course.
Overall, its an amazing software and its free. What more do you want?
I use TCPMP for videos as it is the best at what it does, i.e. play videos.
However I find Mortplayer better for mp3's, more features, playlist, multiple equaliser settings, and the skins and especially car skins make it much more user-friendly.
And yeah, it's free.
I have Mortplayer installed too and as u said skins are nice, buttons are big (i use steel skin) but if are short of memory u may want to use only one player thats why i offered TCPMP.
Anyway both are good players

WMP ''Now Playing'' plugin

Hi
I am wondering of anyone on here knows of a plugin or app that shows what WMP is playing on the today screen. This would be handy as I often play music in the background but i would like what is playing and the remaining track time displayed. Also if that information was a link to reopen WMP that would be great! Any thoughts? I'm suprised WinMo doesn't do this anyway.
ColoenlC81
just use multimedia panel: media interface on today screen
today screen specific help
Thats not what I asked. I find the panels practically useless. I want to do everything from the ''Today'' screen. Any help?
No that doesn't help. I barely use the Panel's the today screen is what I want to use. Any advice?
Serach Google for Spb ToPlay. It's no longer officially available from SPB but you can find it outsourced. It can block your phone however when you first use it, but for me it worked after a softreset. Also includes controls for WMP.
this is in windows 6.5!
if you flash roms, then try itje's 6.5 rom, the new today screen (titanium) has a music section where you can browse through music, click once to play, click again to pause, and swipe left of right to browse songs, it automatically opens wmp in the background and the right soft button opens it.
imo titanium for 6.5 is a big step forward!
