Hey all i was wondering what programs there are that will allow individual ringtones to be assigned to people in the contact list?
I know photo contacts does but after the big storage hack, i dont have it any more and i'm assuming that it is within the ext_rom.
I'm happy with my new set up and dont want to go loading unnecassary programs back on to my jam.
Also i found photo contacts to be unrealiable to the point that i only had 2 contacts with assigned ringtones and they rarely played when i received calls from those 2 contacts.
Cheers in advance!
MTUX ringtoneX

Is there a mail client that does IMAP SSL except LonelyCat's ProfiMail? ProfiMail was kind of ok, but kept crashing and it was darn ugly too.
Is there a substitute to PhotoContacts? I want to be able to back up my settings, use my own pictures, see a full screen presentation when someone calls etc. I feel I want to tell the programmer of PhotoContacts a thing or two after losing my settings one time too many..
As a sidenote I'm also looking for a program that can send my GPS position to a server so that my friends and family can locate me when I'm traveling. I know that CoPilot5 does this, but that's way too expensive just for a small thing like this.
To answer my own questions.
WebIS Mail 2.1 seems to work. Taking ages to sync folder structure though.
PocketX Photo Contacts is almost ok. The good thing is that you don't need to back up because the program reads photos named after your contacts from a folder on the card. The bad thing is that you can't just assign pics, but have to make 150x150 pics named after your contacts
I've got myself a new Vario, but I can't seem to get the contacts to sort by first name - is there any way to do this?
Sorry if this is a dumb question! I've been mucking about with it for ages!
Many thanks
Zakkz,

yes it is possible,
even different ways to get this:
you can use a little freeware application 'File As First Last" that will be included in the default contacts applications. It allows you to save the contact by "firstname lastname" 'or even by company etc. The application can be found on pocketpcfreewares.com: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=828
you could also change the contact settings on your desktop...within the Outlook contact, you can change the setting 'save contact as', there you can chose to use "firstname lastname"
yet another way to solve this problem is to use another application for your contacts. Pocket Informant is really very good! there you can easily chose to sort the contacts by "firstname lastname"...you can also chose to see the contact pictures in the list of contacts, which is really great I think!
and you've got many many other options and settings to change the calendar/contacts/tasks views...also a really great search function within Pocket Informant...try it for yourself...

Hi all..
Try to sync over 1000 contacts to my KJam...

I checked it with the JasJar too, and seems this is the same problem.
First, Do you familiar with such a problem?
Is there any solution for it?

Using the USB cable to do the sync as i think this would be the fastest method, you could try making a copy of your contacts folder in Outlook and then delete everything from the main contacts folder. Then copy the contacts from the copy you made earlier in small batches (25, 50 or 100 whatever seems to work best) and do a sync after copying each batch in.
NOTE: you will need to make sure your ActiveSync is set to replace items on the device so that with each sync it updates with only what has just been copied to the contacts folder.
I havent tried this, but in theory it should work.
Cheers
Thanks,
but my main question is it possible to sync over 1000 records?
I have a customer who has about 5000 customer...
Is there any software which can hold it out of the standard contact program, but also, can be connected to the phone?
Is there an option to keep all the contact on the SD card?

hi,
I have a way over 1.700 contacts, no problem with sync (besides it is slow for the 1st time)
you can cut off the connection anytime & continue later- sometimes it even helps...
the ony problem I had with so many contacts on my xdaII, that caller ID was slow - you got the number, but not the name
but with my wizard, it is gone: caller ID works like charm
regards,
ym
Hi,
I would like to know if having over 1000 contacts slow you device as well, or just the Caller ID?
How long time it's take you to sync each time ? Short process or long one?
Tomer
Loads of contacts across different outlook folders.
I am looking to sync about 1000 contacts spread across several contacts folder (minimum 2 folders). I realise i can copy them across to my wizard device by syncing with each folder one at a time, ( it doesnt matter if they are stored in the same location on my phone as i can filter by categories) however, is there are a way for me to actually keep my device in sync with multiple contacts folders on our PC/network as business contacts are shared out and seperate from my personal ones.
I have been searching the forums with no luck so far for a solution on this.
I have seen the GAL solution from microsoft but this only works for internal contacts and is not really a solution for us.

Just a tip - when your device is sync'd with your pc make a copy of pim.vol in the root directory of your device to pc or storage card\backup. pim.vol has all the contact and appt info in it so will be much easier for you when you next have to reset your device.
hope this helps!
I have 9 folders and 6200 contacts, its almost liek a phone book. The first time it took forever, but now its quick.
What S/W do you use to sync that many folders?
I have one HTC TYTN and active sync 4.5 beta, I have 7 different folders in my outlook program, but I can only sync with the default folders contacts to my ppc is there a way I could sync all 7 folders in one shot ? I know about Pocketmirror but 50$ US is too pricey for me, I would have paid half of the price for this app.
Do I have some other possibilities ?
Hi,
my Sister has the HTC Diamond, and since she has her own Business she wanted me to ask if there was any Way to have a 2nd Phonebook, or Contactlist?
She basically wants to seperate her personal Contacts from her Business Contacts.
Or are there any Settings to sort the Contacts by Groups?
Thanks for any Help, Answers, Solutions.
There's a Filter By option which will allow you to filter your contacts by various categories. You just need to assign the contacts to individual categories for it to work as desired.
When you do a Filter By, it will retain your last selection, so if you Filter By business (or something), it will remain filtered by business until you change it. Not sure if a SR will change it back.

DOes she do that by editing each Contact or does she select a Group somewhere and sets a checkmark in front of the Contacts she wants in the Category?

Will that work with no Problems without changing Registry?
Cuz she dont wanna go to deep into her Diamond due to the Fact that she might send it in soon anyways due to high Tempratures by Use and Charge (which is normal for the Diamond but not understandable for my SiS)
she can use outlook for editing the contacts with multiplce categories even pictures and just sync everything over ActiveSync/WMDC

Haven't played with iContact, I ended up doing mine by editing each contact and placing them in the desired group.
Icontacts is very helpful for what you want. You can have as many list as you want.
In the first you can write names for your busines ,in the second your personal, in third all. More info, links and a skin i made , here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3261708#post3261708
In my Contacts, if someone has more than one phone number, I store the separately because I find it easier to find and dial a specific number.
example:
John Doe (Mobile)
John Doe (Work)
John Doe (Home)
But I seem to only be able link John Doe's facebook profile to one of the numbers to use the 'contact picture'. When I try and link the same person's facebook profile to the other numbers, his/her name doesn't appear in the list to choose from anymore.
Does anyone know whether it's possible to link the same facebook profile more than once so that all three of the numbers show the contact's facebook profile pic?
To be honest, I don't think it's possible.
- and to be even more honest, I think you might be the only person on the planet thinking dividing people into more contacts than one combined is the easiest.
I just don't think HTC thought anyone would find it more logical that way...!?
FB contact pictures should be stored in Windows\FBContacts folder, try assigning those to your contacts manually

hahaha.. i find it easier to find and dial someone's number like that... that is, one-press instead of two when someone has more than one number... may just be that i'm used to it that way..
Really, my contacts were only stored that way because the original list was exported from a whole range of different phones... some that didnt have the capability to store more than one number for a contact. There's hundreds of numbers that I really don't want to sort out individually... and of course I might end up going back to a basic phone in future.
oh wellz...

thanks p107r0.. i gave that a shot, but when selecting the profile picture, there's no option to go into the Windows\FBContacts folder to get the picture...
I'm guessing if there was a way to acess that folder to select a file, it might work well because the pics in that folder would get updated accordingly (but the file name would remain the same) whenever someone changes their profile pic.
Can always copy that entire folder into an "Album", but it won't update itself if someone changed their profile pic.
my advise is to sync your contacts with gmail. gmail provides you with easy way off finding duplicates and also merging contacts. you'd be amazed how easy it is.
