Hi, guys, I am using my XDA Neo as a mp3 player all the time. Here I have one question, to save the battery, I would like to turn off the screen, but keep the phone and other program (like media player) still running, what should I do? Is there any 3rd party software can do this?
If I press the power button, the XDA will go to sleep, but the phone is still on. If I press and hold the power button for like 5 seconds, it will ask if I want to turn of the device completely, and I tried it, the XDA was completely off including the phone function. So, what button can turn off the screen display but not anything else?
Thanks in advance for any input.
In media player under Options/buttons you can assign any a key to turn off the screen, without the music is stopping..

There is a program called MortSaver that not only turns off the light, but actually turns off the screen. It locks all of the buttons and it takes a 2 button combination to unlock the buttons. However you can press any button and activate the screen just to see a special display with the time, battery and phone status...very cool. I use it strictly for playing mp3s (ogg in my case) when the phone is in my pocket or backpack.
Thanks, Motosaver seems to be a nice program. I just downloaded and I am using it now. Thanks.
I think VJEschaton will also turn off the screen.

Dear friend,
how do I do to put OFF completely my magician XDAmini?
Best regards
Daniele
Take the battery out?
And pushing the power button?
The power button can only put the phone is Standby. In PDA phones there is no such thing as OFF. The RAM needs power all the time. Sliding the battery cover in and out will also power off the device. Don't leave that long though, otherwise you risk losing all the information.
Hello,
I'm new so plz be patient. Ok, pressing the power button only allows us to set the device in standby mode. How do I turn off the phone (gsm) mode then? The idea is just that I want to figure out a way to reduce the power consumption as much as possible.
Thx for all coming answers..
To turn the phone itself off click on the signal strength indicator then click on 'Turn on flight mode'
This turns off the phone part of the device but leaves the pda side still functional

Alrite. But is there a way to accomplish that task with hardware buttons? Guess not, ey?
Just don't wanna pull out my stylus that often.. *g*
Press and hold the power button for several seconds. this will actually turn the device OFF.
Do the same to turn it back on.

This is not true. When you do that, the background light will be off, but the phone is still working.

You could install PocketZenPhone from here: http://zendrui.free.fr/ and then, as long as your fingers are not too fat, you can press an icon on the today screen. 8)
Cool, thx for this hint.

I don't think that the GPRS is using that much power, but to turn it off, hold the RED Phone button down for several seconds (I never timed it, I just wait for the "GPRS Connected" icon to disappear.
Your best bet for power consumption is to lower the screen brightness to it's lowest level, and set the screen backlight to go off at 30 seconds, and lastly to set the device to power down at 1 minute of inactivity.
copy this app to your magician, in a folder you want. Bind it to a hard button or make a shortcut on your Todayscreen with SPB Pocket PLus or another program.
PocketZenPhone (the tray version of it) can also be used to set the profiles via hardware buttons. This can be done with making shortcuts to the .exe with setting the specific profile. I'm using this together with MortButtons to switch between my profiles of PocketZenPhone.

Yzord; no it really does work (did you try it ?)
Yes, pressing the power button briefly just turns the screen off ; I think we all know that.
However holding the button down for several seconds will allow you to turn it off completely. = power off; no applications running; no phone or other network connections; zero power consumption, nada.
PH
the best way to stop using magician:
charge battery to 50%
do a backup
pull out battery
pack you magician
several years later
get it out
put in battery
do a restore
charge and use it
(maybe 5% drop one year, so can put aside ten years

It will still lose some power in keeping the RAM filled, if it loses all power (goes very slowly however), all your installed programs and data will be lost. It takes a long time, but it still uses power to keep the RAM chips powered and the clock correct. Furtheremore, with the Magician it keeps the phone and alarms awake, so you can receive calls. You have to turn on flight mode manually to turn the radio off. Also you have to turn off all alarms to prevent your device from waking up. Your method is more like the one used on the Wizard, where holding the power button for 5 seconds really turns everything off and when pressing and holding again makes the Wizard start up again (with boot screen and all).

Also thought of this when I first got my xda mini. Now, after some reading here in the forums, I just switched my xda mini to flight mode before I go to sleep. It turns off the phone. Hope this helps.
Hi All,
My Wizard is set to turn the screen off after a minute of inactivity.
To get it back on, I have to press the power button.
I've checked in backlight and power settings and have it set to allow a screen tap to turn the backlight on, but it's not working - well, if the backlight's off but the screen's on it works ok, but I want a tap to turn the screen and the backlight on together. At the moment I have to press the power button, which upsets Pocket Player MP3 playback...or I can press a hardware button, but again, this tends to interrupt playback of music as all the buttons are mapped to something.
Seems a simple request, am I missing anything? This is under the Mr Clean ROM, if it makes a difference.
Ric
Once the screen goes off, the phone is "sleeping". The only way I know of to turn it on at this point is to tap the power button. To do what you want would be turn turn off the screen going into sleep mode, but that will come at the expense of your battery life. Start>Settings>Power>Advanced then uncheck the Turn off device under On Battery Power.
device lock(s)
A halfway solution, you could turn the screen off using the device lock app, which includes screen off. Then when you press the power button it only effects the screen and not anything which is running. The second one is very good for listening to music with, assuming you volume control button isn't broken like mine
Hello all,
I am new to the forums but I have been using the HTC Touch for a few months now, and would like some guidance about a few problems i'm having. First off, I am using the official 6.1 rom with sprint....
I am running S2U2 and am having a problem with my phone turning off while in my pocket. It seems the power off menu can be brought up if you hold the power button, even if S2U2 is running. This is very frustrating, is there anyway to lock the power button when S2U2 is running, or any other option?
Is there any edits that can be done to make S2U2 call the factory device lock? I couldnt find anything related to the lock in the registry. If there is, is there anyway to assign the factory device lock to the power button, so that when you blank the screen it auto-locks? I love this feature with s2u2, and with stock device lock it takes 3 buttons to do this...
Thanks!

The only thing that I could suggest that might help is to get yourself a good case for your phone that would protect the button from being accidentally pushed. I have never had this problem with my phone. The button actually has to be pressed and held to bring up the power off menu. Even when not in it's case, I have never had this happen; however, the phone is only out of it's case, when I am using it. In the case, there is even less chance of powering off the device.
Rod.
The default device lock works just like S2U2, as it leaves only the power button unlocked. If you locked all buttons, how would you turn your phone back on??

The problem i'm having is that the phone actually powers off while in my pocket somehow....what i'm saying is that the phone not only "wakes up" from the standby mode, but also calls the shut down window and you can press the "yes its ok to shut down" button while s2u2 is running, something the stock device lock will not do.
It would be really nice if there was a slide type lock that was based off the code of the stock device lock.
Thanks for the replys
Find what the application is that launches when pressing the button and add it to the S2U exclusions list.
I have a verizon and my power button toggles screen off and on, so im not entirely sure, Is this a stock popup or a program you installed ? There is probably a registry entry somewhere that defines how the power button functions jsut as the button manager does for other buttons.

I understand your point, and am still wondering what it is you keep in your pocket with your phone that shuts it off!? Anyways, why do you keep referring back to the default device lock? S2U2 performs the same way, as it locks everything besides the power button. If the power button is locked, how would you wake up the device to unlock it ???
the power button has two functions, it blanks the screen if you press it, or it brings up the power off menu when you long press it. The problem i'm having is s2u2 doesnt prevent the power off menu from coming up, where as the stock device lock does. Thus, it is possible to completely power off the phone while the keys are locked.... of course I want to be able to wake the phone up with the power button, but i dont want to be able to turn it completely off.
And i'm not sure how it turns off in my pocket, except i usually carry it with the power button face down (phone upside down) and it must press against the bottom of my pocket...
The application that it is calling is the stock shut down menu, i'm not sure how I could add this to the exception list, as I dont know how to call it remotely....
Thanks again for the replies!
The title of this caught my attention.
It would be very nice to have a registry edit that will lock the device when powered off or on device wake up.
I use S2U2 and I am really not liking it personally, but it is better then the default setup currently I feel.
Hello guys.. im searching for some litle app that is able to map the Stylus
for example: When the Stylus is IN the Screen to be OFF backlight in a sleep mode.
When the Stylus is Out the Screen to be ON.. wake up automaticly.
I found this that is avalible in Mobile Magic Button Maper etc.. but there have so many extras with i will not use them and i hear that this app drain the batery fast.
So i need and i think many of you need just one very light simple app for the Stylus... this will not drain out Battery and also we will not need anymore to press the Power Button when we want our phone to go on Sleep and Wake Up
For example if you Map some key for the screen OFF thats work without problem but when the screen is OFF in HTC Touch HD you can`t turn it on with any from the KEYS because they just don`t work in sleep mode.. so you can turn it ON only by presing the Power Buton witch is not good because from so many use of that Litle Button often the peoples have problem with this button and he often Crash.
If someone is able to do this Stylus APP will be Awsome.
i want this as well since my power button is broken....
will wait...thanks
It's part of multi functions in Gyrator.

Hello dude i gound Desigion of the Problem.
Here is full with APPS like this but i was searching for something very Light that don`t dry battery and work fast... i know that in Gyrator and MobileMagic you can do this option but they have alot more stufs to costumize and i need only the Stylus so what you can do is very simple.
Install "Turn Off The Light" this is a CAB and you can install it directly on device memory after you install it just go to Settings, Personal and Buttons
So you can asign a Key i asign my my 1st Hardware Button when i press and long hold to TURN OF THE LIGHT
and thats it...
Also my Stylus when is Out by default my phone Wake UP..
So i don`t need any more applications and etc when i want my phone to sleep just long pressing the hardwere call buton when i want to wake up just pul out the Stylus and there is no need to use the Power Button Anymore.
thanks for the response...anyway by removing the stylus...it seems that it eats up 1-2% of the battery usage...
any alternative solution to turn on from off...
thanks in advance
S2U2 can wake up / unlock the screen when pulling it out and lock it when you put it in.

Did you try StylusLock?
I know this question has been asked before by someone else but there was no working solution.
I use the Touch Control app to wake my phone, and would prefer to use a gesture on the screen instead of the power button to wake the device. Does anybody know of an app, mod or editable system file I could use to stop the power button waking the device? I know that on a couple of other phones you can edit system/usr/keylayout to stop the home button from waking the device. (I would still like to be able to use the power button to turn the screen off, take screenshots etc.)
