How to send *.cab files from PC to 8125 via BT? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

The subject tells it all.
I've been looking for answers on many threads. I've asked questions on them for about a week or two... Still no answers...
So, I decided to create new thread.
The question is: how do you send *.cab (or other) files to the Cingular 8125 via Bluetooth?
I have Bluesoleil USB BT dongle and I can't install Activesync on my work computer. When I pair my phone with the PC and refresh services, all I get is BT modem and "Bluetooth Object Push." When I send the file via BT object push the PC will start sending it and then it'll give a disconnected message. Sometimes it sends the whole file with no warnings saying that the file has been sent succesfully, however it is nowhere to be found on the phone. (Searched via Total Commander)
Any suggestions?
How do you send files to your phone?

Doesn't anyone send any files to their phones from PC via BT?

ActiveSync will help
MargaL, not sure this is possible without having ActiveSync on your work computer. I have a BlueTooth USB dongle that I use to sync, but its through the ActiveSync program. From there you can click the Explore button to see a folder for your Mobile Device, then drag and drop away...is there another computer you can use (home?) where you can put activesync instead?

I have Activesync at home but the problem is that I don't really have time to sit on playing with the phone at home... I do it at work ;-) and the problem is that here I have Win 2000 NT and anyways if my boss traces out Active sync here, I think I might have a lot of free time to play with the phone and to look for a new job...
So... maybe there is another way?
Anyways... jorge_culv, thanks for your help...

i send files all the time without activesync. to be clear, i specifically don't use activesync, cause the only way i know in activesync is to explore the device, versus turning on bluetooth on two devices, right clicking any file, and choose "send via bluetooth" or whatever.
make sure your device is discoverable, the pc will find it, and send it

With the Widcomm BT stack everything worked like a charm - just right-click on the file you want to send in the Windows explorer and select "Send to"->"Bluetooth"... All the files went to the "My documents" folder.
A few days ago I installed the Bluesoleil stack that came with my new dongle and I got the same problem! :?
Seems like there is no way to send files via OBEX with the Bluesoleil stack - that software really sucks, Widcomm is so much better...

I tried this on my Mac and was unable to send the file. My Mac reported that the Wizard lacked the necessary services to handle an incoming file. I don't believe that though. Will try with the Wintendo later.
I wonder if this is a BT 2.0 vs. 1.2 issue?

BT 2.0 devices are fully backwards compatible - so that shouldn't matter. It works for me with the same dongle if I use the Widcomm stack instead of Bluesoleil, but I don't want to use Widcomm as it doesn't "cooperate" with my A2DP headset... :?

Bluetooth help Please!!!

Hi there guys.
I really need some help. I've tried everything but can think of anything else to do anymore.
I have a i-Mate Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003 (not SE). My Desktop PC has got Windows XP with SP2.
I'm trying to send files via Bluetooth from my Desktop PC to my Pocket PC but I get this error message "FTP service not found on target device"
But if I send files via Bluetooth from my Pocket PC to my Desktop PC it works perfectly.
Please guys, if anyone can help me I will appreciate it. I am really tired of taking my SD card out all the time to put it in the card reader or taking the Pocket PC out of the Case and put it in the Cradle.
Thanks in advance.
in my pc bluetooth i can add and remove com ports
when i add com ports i have to deside if they are outgoing or incomming
if i want to send to the xda it would require the port to be outgoing
and of cause the xda would have to have an incomming port enabled
and of cause have turned on recieve beam enabled
try that
Thanks for your help. I get a error that my Pocket PC does not support file transfer.
Can you believe that??
well i havent tried it from a pc but i have tried it from a cellphone and there it worked ok
I don't understand why it doesn't wanna work. My P900 that I had before could send and receive files to and from my Desktop PC via Bluetooth.
Isn't there any software availible that you can install on the Pocket PC for file sharing or file transfer or something?
Where can I go to change my Com ports??
i just tried and it works ok for me
i had a txt file on my desktop and right clicked on it and choosed send to
and picked bluetooth device
and found my pda
and press'd send and my pda said if i wanted to recieve the file and i said yes
i dident add any outgoing com ports
to my bluetooth pc settings
i just turned on my bluetooth on my pda
and made sure i had made it recieve all beam files
Yes, that is how it is supposed to work. But mine doesn't. That's why I say, I can't understand it.
It should be straight forward.
when you go into settings and pick bluetooth settings
have you checked both the inbound com port
and the outbound com port ?
and of cause the Receive all incomming beams in beam under connections
Yes, I did that.
and do you use both the ms bluetooth software on the pc and
use the bluetooth stack on the xda ?
and does stuff like activesync works ?
i'm still on 1.66 rom
and i use ms bluetooth stack
and the driver that xp sp2 auto installed
I don't have the bluetooth stack. Where can I find it?
It's all in the com ports ! Go to pc right click my computer - go properties - hardware - device manager - look for your ports "com " 3/4 the way down page - expand then right click on your 2 ports one at a time - click com port tab then change incoming to com 4 then the same to t e other one but set to com 5 - open active sync - click connection settings clIck on com port 5 then open active sync in ppc tab " connect via bluetooth - should auto fire-up active sync if it does you should now be able to send n recieve ( good luck took me nearly a month to sus it out ) be very wary about the stack thing I dont have it - dont need it xp sp2 handles it fine.......
Looper T
Com ports
On my computer, I found that I would have to terminate the processes WCESMgr.exe and or wcescomm.exe and then go to device manager, Ports, disable Com 7 and 8 (yours may be 4 and 5 etc), re enable them, open up Active sync and then the Com ports were usable again and active sync would work just fine via bluetooth until I had to reboot my computer again.
This may just be my computer though... Or it could be that when the bluetooth and ActiveSync try to get going at boot, the bluetooth virtual com ports are not ready when active sync starts. I also disabled active sync from starting and I continue to block it's attempts to get back in the start up in the registry. Both Spybot, www.spybot.info , and Lavasoft's Ad Watch, www.lavasoft.de , will do that.

Have u ticked the "receive all incoming beams" in the settings->connections tab ? Cos if u unticked that, u will not receive any files from any computer or smartphone.
...
This is the problem with the MS Bluetooth stack. This software has no FTP service. I've installed the Broadcomm BT stack and now it's working except 1 thing described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=173928#173928
You can send any file via BT from your computer with ActiveSync. Normally make a AS connection via BT and simply browse your device on a PC. Or you can send it also without AS. Just click on My BT Places on your desktop, open your paired Himalaya and drag-and-drop your file to this opened window. You need to be in discoverable mode and the beams-receiving is turned on on your PDA.

Hi.
I spent hours and hours trying to sep up Activesync and I found these and sorted it:
Bluetooth Drivers:
First I removed the old Bluetooth drivers as they are not needed.

Com ports:
Then I reset the com ports.

I found this a little tricky, but I did it like this (using SP2 BT drivers on XP):
1.Start off with the phone and computer unpaired
2.Open the bluetooth menu (double click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray).
3.Select the comm ports tab and click to add a new INCOMING port. - This port got assigned to something stupid like comm 36.
4.Open device manager, and select the comm port that has just been made.
5. Go to properties->port settings->advanced and change it to a lower end port you know isn't in use. I selected 3.
6. Reboot the computer (not sure if this was really needed)
7. On the phone go to start->settings->system-bluetooth settings and make sure the in and outgoing ports are selected (again not sure if thats essential, but I have it on and it works for me). Then press start.
8. Bond with your computer. There isnt anything that tells you if this has worked or not (which is very frustrating), so you just gotta click ok and test it.
9. In activesync go into the connections bit and tell it to list on the comm that you set in step 3. To get to this bit you have to have synced your phone through usb or something first.
10. on the phone go to activesync->tools->connect via bluetooth (remember to turn bluetooth on first). If everything has gone to plan then it should connect fine.
I did this a few times until suddenly it worked. I'm not sure what I did the time that it did work, but it was something, so I would suggest trying slightly different things each time, but I'm pretty sure it was that way.
The whole process of setting up activesync over bluetooth is really tedious imo, and could be greatly improved in many many ways.
Good luck and let me know if this works.

when i try to bond with my computer...why is it asking for a PIN CODE? im trying to connect my imate to the computer so i can sync thru bluetooth and possibly use the internet when i'm around the house. Can someone please help me?
i tried the search engine, but its no help for me.
of course it will ask for a pincode in both directions.. meaning your phone and PC.. but this for the first time connection only... so what you want to do is to set each other as an authorized counterpart of the other so that you will not have any confirmations again
ok...sorry for these noobie question...i have finaly established a connection with my PC.
is it possible for me to use the internet from my computer on my PDA thru BT? for example, i want to use AIM *AOL* instant message, but im not sure if there is an internet connection on my PDA thru bluetooth. How would i tell if there is a connection? if not, how do i connect? please help? thanks again in advance
If you go into activesync and under options-->rules at the bottom there is the option to share your net connection with the synced device (called pass-through). My XDA II pops up a message when its making a gprs connection.
Hi @ all,
I did not tested it again because I now have a synccable.
This works fine.
Thanks a lot for your great support!
I installed Mobile Navigon4 (Update4.2). Because of the fact that my audiospeaker is not working (Audio about Headset & BT-Headset works fine/speaker is not defect)here is my question:
Can I use the PPC in my car for navigation ?I want to use the BT-Headset for the navigation audio output.Does it work?

ActiveSync via bluetooth instead of USB?

Dear all, is that possible to activesync mini and pc without USB? Whenever using usb to sync, mini will be charged. Can i prevent this auto charging problem coz lets say the battery in my mini is always full, will it do any harm when it keep charging whenever we activesync? If we can activesync using BT, what is the procedure?
Just go to bluetooth settings and do activesync setup. you will need to re pair your PC. works really well.
rmg, what do u mean by repair the pc, can u provide me with more details and step on doing this, appreciate your help thanks
rmg, i did what u told me, but when i click start button on the "bluetooth activesync setup:" the message box come out "please start bounding with other bluetooth device which support serial port or activesync profile as your activesync partner". i cannot get it done, can u help
how i do is it
1) bond PC and Phone in Bluetooth Settings in windows
2) on phone go to Activesync - tools - Options - Options - Dropdown box
Eather Bluetooth or 19200 default
3)Open active sync pc
4) Active Sync on Phone - Tools - Connect Via Bluetooth
and that is how i connect
In the advanced settings for your BT dongle you will need to check what Bluetooth Serial port number is being used. I found mine under local services. Once you have that go into the proerties for AS and where it lists the serial port to use put the COM Port number of your BT Serial port in that box. Now when you hit the AS button they should be able to connect with each other. Hope that helps.
One of the requirements is for you to have a ActiveSync 3.8.
Once you have that installed a new port will also be installed with the Windows BT stack. When the BT stack is detected a new port will also be available.
Now the next step is to go to the PPC. Hit Start go to Settings, System and then Blue Tooth Settings. Hit the Start button and it should bring you to the BT activation where you turn it on. Have everything checked. Once this is done, start pairing the laptop by having it detect the PPC and set a passkey for protection. Once they are paired, launch ActiveSync in the PC and go to File and Connection Settings. Once in this screen pit a check mark on the Allow Serial... Set it to the new port set by your BT Stack.
Once this is done, on the PPC, hit Start and go to Programs select ActiveSync. Hit Tools and then Connect via Bluetooth. This should then start working.
One bug I did find is that once you connect your device to your charger and initialize the ActiveSync over BT everything will work well. BUt once you remove it from the power conenction, your device will soft reset.
ok i will try, thanks to all of you
Stupid Q. If you're using BT for Activesync, the PC will still act like a pass-thru internet gateway, right? And you can now surf the net via BT (the same way you do it with wifi)?
Thanks.
@MC_Oliver
The answer is yes. If you are doing ActiveSync over Bluetooth it is the same as ActiveSync with a cable. You should have the same icon on the top of your screen. You can even browsse the files in your PPC.
Thanks dre.
Btw, curious if you have the same problem as I do in this thread? Thanks again.

Niks
I have the same problem,
I somehow was able to object push a .txt file, once, then never again. Then i gave up and just copied files using my card reader + SD card which is much easier.
Edit: I think it may have something to do with the M$ bluetooth stack, changing this to another stack might fix the problem. Let me know how you go.
Are you using the M$ BTdriver on your PC or your own?
Using all standard bluetooth drivers on phone and pc,
Bluetooth file transfer service issue
I am using drivers and software provided by IVT Bluesoleil on PC and the O2 XDA MINI has its own bluetooth drivers provided by the phone manufacturer, when i connect my NOKIA 6630 or 6600 the bluetooth file transfer serivice is activated but it dosent only get activated for O2 MINI.

wizard activesync throug bluetooth

Hi all,
I have a toshiba portege r200 and I'm simply not able to set up activesync to work through bluetooth. The darn computer only sees my phone as a modem.
I have no clue how to do this.
I really cant' see why this has to be so hard. Both units are running stupid microsoft software. Whey the can't microsoft think that people migh want to connect their ppc's to their laptops via bt and just make it work easily?
Please, someone help.
thanks
Try deleting the pairing on your pc and the Universal. Then initiate from the Universal. It Should give you an option for ActiveSync. Also check in ActiveSync on your PC that you have set up connection settings to allow connections to Com4 (maybe another Com part in your case.)
