Hi,
I'm using MDA Vario (HTC wizard). I bought 2 Gig storage card. At the first time, my MDA was able to recognize my 2 Gig mini SD. Then I put the card on the card reader on my Laptop in order to copy some file. There was a comment on the dialog box in my laptop that my 2 Gig mini SD has not been formated and the dialog box offered me to format it. Then I clicked yes to proceed the formatting process.
Unfortunatelly, after I format my 2 Gig mini SD using my laptop; My 2 Gig mini SD could not be recognized by my MDA, but my laptop is still able to recognize my 2 Gig mini SD card.
Up to the present I have not been able to use my 2 Gig mini SD on my Wizard since I format it using my Laptop.
I also has formated my 128MB and 256MB mini SD cards using the same laptop and it works on my MDA.
Could you please help me to fix the problem?
regards,
Stones
try to re-format in your PC using FAT (not FAT32 or NTFS).
then the card should work in your PocketPC
My XP only gave FAT32 option for this mini SD. Tried to do that manually throgh DOS format and set the file sistem to FAT16, but still couldn't format it using FAT16.
mini sd
I bought a 2 gig card with no problems

google up programs for formatting memory cards on the actual device and set it to the right format...if the program doesn't recognize the card, then you are in the same boat as I am
most likely cause is that you laptop cardreader is not capable of recognizig 2gb sd cards properly.
Therefore the laptop thinks the card is not formatted.
by formatting it you wreck the card (most likely not destructive)
Try to format the sd card in the wizard or another cardreader.

I have a 2gb SD card that was working, but I thought I would be clever and use the SD reader in my Tosh so that I could transfer large files more easily to the card for my exec. But when I was asked to format my card by Toshiba's software, I went through the process and thought it was successful. But then at end of process the phrase "Please stop a SD memory card, then insert the card again" came up, so took card out, re-entered it in the reader and tried to attempt to transfer files to it. However windows then told me that it was not formatted and would I like to format it. So yes, I do, but although windows formatted it, it reduced the capacity from 2gb to 956 mb or thereabouts. It was recognised by the exec again, but with severe consequences as never bought a 1 gb card.
Help please...
Sounds to me like your card reader doesn't read cards bigger than 1 GB. I had the same issue with my 4 GB card. Tried it with a different reader and the PC saw all 4 gigs, never asking me to format. See if you can try a newer SD card reader?
The same thing happened to me with a 1 gigabyte pcmcia card. It was working fine in my laptop then I put it in the card slot on an Ipaq and it also did a format. The card is now exactly half the memory it should be and no way can I get it to work as a 1 gig card even though I have tried formatting on the pc.
I have found that my 2GB card formatted on my Palm LifeDrive was not readable on my laptop. When I formatted using a Toshiba format utility the space on the card was down to 1GB. It did work okay on my JJ. I had to re-format it on my Palm and then for reason it was okay again and could be read by my laptop - I did not use any card readers as the laptop has a built-in reader. And I re-formatted on my laptop using XP format softwsre and the 2GB storage was retained.
@Wannabe, have you got access to another PC or card reader to reformat your card. Also I found WM5 file managers could not reformat and regain the lost capacity
been on to Tosh
Toshiba are extremely helpful...not! Told me to get another card and see if that works as it might not accept the card. This is a Sandisk card which I believe is made by Toshiba...or at least in collaboration. Am going to check Sandisk for an answer as well...keep the ideas coming please
Hi there.
Try reading this post i made ages ago about formatting and re-newing your sd cards. It might help. It is regarding my 512mb sd card, but the principles are the same.

I strongly recommend using media recover, even if it's only a trial version to "wipe" your sd card to re-new it to it's factory condition. It covers and re-formats the whole card sector by sector.

Give it a go and let us know.

If none of the other suggestions work then try this program that I posted on another thread:-
SDFormatter.zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30900&highlight=
Use it with a card reader, follow instructions and your PPC should be able to read the full capacity.
SanDisk have taken back card...
Thanks for the suggestions, will keep in mind for future. Sandisk took back the card and found that it had become corrupted so have sent out another one. tks for suggestions though.
I just bought a 2gb sandisk sd card
it is recognised by the magician but each time it switchs to stand by mode the "memory card" file disappears...So I have to take it out and to insert it again (two times) in order to see it again.
Is it normal ? or there's a problem with this card ?
thanks

Good to read, Storage to the people!
Take a look @ the card params too. Somehow a magician communicates better with a fat(16) card than fat32.
Have fun, M
thanks for your comment...
I can only format the sd card with the magician because i don't have a sd card reader for my PC. But with the program I use (FORMAT) I cannot choose FAT 16 or 32 - do you know a soft to do this ?
PHM Pocket Mechanic is very good for this, available on trial
I just received my Sandisk Ultra II 2GB card and it's working fine with my S100 (1.12) and I didn't have to format it when I received it.
However I have just come upon a problem. The card works fine in my S100 and I can copy files to it via ActiveSync. In order to speed things up I just tried putting it in the card reader in my laptop which reported it as unformatted...
Got the Sandisk Ultra 2 2GB for my M500 and it works fine in the phone , my card reader however does not like it either.
However i have sd-cf adapter that i use with my camera , i sloted the sd card in to that and in to the card reader and it works fine at very high speed.
Hope that helps.

Laptop doesn't have CF and I'm reluctant to allow it to format the card in case I suddenly have issues reading it in my S100. :/
hi, i ran a benchmark in my 512mb SD card (unknown brand - missing logo) with pocket mechanic and the results are: Read 5.1X and Write 0.6X. Is it bad?
ok my card reader on my laptop and my S100 must talk a different dialect of SD card because no matter what I do they can't work together.
If I format the card in my S100 and copy files via activesync the laptop reports the card as unformatted.
If I format the card in my laptop and copy files on my pocketpc can't see them.
Size doesn't fit to 2GB Card
Hi I just got my sandisk ultra II 2GB SD Card and at first it worked fine.
Magician recognized it as 2GB then i copied some files from my computer with my SD Card Reader. But after inserting the card into my magician i got some weird looking characters, files, and folders. So I inserted it again in my SD card reader and formatted the card. After that my pc and my magician doesn't recognise the card as 2GB anymore just 1GB .
Any help to solve this problem and to get my 2GB back ?
I too facing the same problem it is detecting as 1 GB instead of 2 GB also the after formatting sd card in card reader made i unformated for ppc and viceversa dam, anybody have a solution for this ?

I have a 2GB Sandisk in my Cingular 8125 and haven't had any problems with the card. I've had some problems with the phone, but not the card.
You should return/exchange it.
Fairly common prob with the 2gb cards, esp the sandisk - try formating the card fat16 on your device, with storage tools or sktools (google both) demos will format your card.
I've just purchased a 4 gb SD card thru ebay, which works fine with my PC, but my Jamin (I've got the latest ROM installed) does not seem to recognize it, wont even show up in file explorer. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks...
I have an 4Gb that work fine with my JAMin but not work fine in my USB Card Reader. Sorry.
Try to reformat the SD card on the PC. I have a-data 4gb, works like a charm, after formating on PC.
Just tried to reformat, but now my pc does not recognize the card...shows an sd card in "my computer", but will not open. Any other thoughts, or did I Just get a bad card?
Thanks again!
Well if it shows up on my computer, but does not open, you should still be able to format it. Right-click and format again using FAT32 full format.
Beyond that I really do not know what could be the issue.
If you have an SD card reader, insert it into your pc and insert the 4Gb SD card.
Then reboot your pc unto the Windows XP setup cd, and choose to install Windows XP on the SD card (should be recognisable). Create a 4Gb (full) FAT32 partition on the SD card. Then just reset to get out, boot normally, and format from Windows.
I found that this method works everytime.
Hi,
i have a new sandisk 2GB microSD card in my hermes. Because i have no card reader for my pc i want to format the card in my hermes.
Is it possible to do so? I cant found any option for formating.
The hermes says in settings >> memory that no card is installed.
I thing it is because the card is unformated.
I do so, but there is no storage card.
The mobile device also says that there is no storage card.
I know that Resco File explorer can format the card but most cards are formatted fat by default. The Hermes at least recognises this. If you're not even getting the sd card recognised then there may be either a problem with the card or with the Hermes.
It would be best to just fork over a few bucks and get a card reader for the pc as if the pc is recognising the sd card that means that the Hermes may have a problem. Try formatting FAT32 anywaty then put back into Hermes. May work.
If the pc doesn't recognise the sd card, does happen that new cards go bang, then I'd suggest taking the card back and getting a new one.
Cheers...
8gB micro SD
Hello,
I have the same problem. My 1gB card works fine in my Hermes but the new 8gB is not recognized. Spec says phone can only take maximum of 2gB but other forums say can use 32gB. My latest clue is that the card was preformatted with FAT32 and the Hermes requires FAT. However FAT can only deal with Volumes up to 4gB. So I stumped.
If you read a bit further you'd realise that these people with 32 Gb cards run custom roms which have the patch applied...
There is a cab file running around that allows you to run sdhc cards on WM 5/6 but I can't remember what its called (try sdhc patch in search)...
