Way of removing the ugly Video Button on new O2 ROM.. - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Attached the file that I've changed not to include the ugly video button...
U need to replace this file with the existing file in the Extended ROM & a hard reset is required...
then u'll get the nice clean button all around...

i just omit out the key '\Windows\VTKey.exe' from the customize.lst,
if u guys found any probs, pls inform me, thx..

I think the easier and lower file size is to go onto wiki and find the registry hack that removes this phone skin and uses the original, faster, cleaner and more efficient phone skin, the original, not as pretty, but far far more efficient.

O2 User Interface

Hi,
I have a sim-free XDA II which as it happens is on 02. How can I get rid of that User Interface though - I really hate it, and want to remove it?
Can anybody help please?
Thanks
Rich
goto ad remove programs and remove anything o2 related, then soft reset. Change the dialer skin then all your left with is the boot screens and the o2 logo on the case
I'd recommend chaning the dialer skin back to the default before uninstalling o2 active; there are some images stored in dlls that are difficult to find, but can be changed via the phone skinning applet in o2 active.
The correct order (IMHO that is), is as follows...
1 - Firstly, while you still have the Active interface, use the menu item on the navigation bar, I think it might be listed as 'view' to go in and change the dialler skin to the default one.
2 - Then soft reset.
3 - Next up, now go into File Explorer on either the phone, or via ActiveSync, and go to the Windows/Startup folder, and delete the shortcut for "Active"
4 - Reboot again, to get the phone to load without Active running.
5 - Go into Settings > System > Remove Programs, and remove the Active app, the V2R stff, and O2 Xmail if you never use it. You will get warnings that some files or folders still remain - no problem, this gets resolved later...
6 - Another soft reset.
7 - Now, go into File Explorer again, to the Windows Folder itself, and delete the folder for the V2R stuff.
8 - Change your Today theme to something better looking, do a re-boot, and voila...
If I have missed anything that I think of, I will come back and editt this post, but that's it for now...
EDIT - even if you change the dialler skin back to default before removing the O2 stuff, you will find a strange quirk with the talk/end button, whereby even with the default skin, after ending a call, the old flat red O2 style button will display.
This can be resolved by downloading the XDA Phone Skin Chooser application available from DesignLab (do a google), and then setting the skin to use (even though you might already be using it) to the Default Skin, and then resetting the device. This is the only way I have encountered, other than hard fiddling with hard to find .dll's, to get ALL the buttons to use the default skin, and thus have a proper 'pressed in' appearance when touched.
XDA Phone Skin Chooser will work on my xda2 ?
Nice one Shadamehr. Getting rid of all that speeds the system noticeably

Better than just uninstalling it?
Will removing it in this way stop all o2 related programs reinstalling after a hard reset?
Not sure. I've never tried to uninstall everything.

No, not by a long shot.
As the installation files etc, are stored in 'hidden' extended rom, and all a Hard Reset does is clear your phone, and then set about running and installing any files in the extended rom.
To remove it so that it is not installed after hard reset, is kind of achievable, but only if you know what you are doing.
You would have to use the Extended Rom Unlock tool on this site, to unhide and unlock your extended ROM, then you would have to remove any of the CAB install files from this folder for the O2 stuff you don't want (and its up to you to know what's what).
And then you would need to edit the config.txt file that 'calls' all of these installation routines, so that it no longer references any that you have deleted.
Then you could lock and hide the extended rom.
Thus, on a hard reset then, only the stuff you have left gets installed.

New style of DialPad.

Please find the enclosed cab file, if you interesting on the dialpad style.
I'm not use to have 4 big button(call, history, speed dial etc) on the right, may I hand is small find difficult to press especial the backspace key. Again I'm having same problem with original ETEN dial pad as all 4 button is on the top, feeling so far away , therefore I hack it to change the button position and simply design the black style skin for my dial pad.
It may not as nice as a "pauly A", "zphone" skin but hope you guy can enjoy this new style dialpad.
Current version is not support SmartDial, I will try it out see wheither I can hack it or not.
I'm not test with others PDA phone except XDA II so use it with your own risk.
pauly A,
I'm sorry to tell you that I have used your landscape skin(grey) part of my cab, if you not allow please let me know I will remove it. Thanks.
Pretty nice, I'd be interested to try it out.
grear wrok
Hi man grear work but upload it fast
it is very cool idea , iconized controls very nice, keep up with it
Coool.
One comment though. Is the rounded picture frame part of the design or that just simulate a place where the picture will be? The one of the ethen phone pad design has such a design too, but later someone find it difficult to match the design with the photos that you put into the rounded frame. As such the author/designer scrap the rounded frame design. You might want to consider the fact that the photos that you put in might not able to be rounded age, and/or the photo need not have the same background colour as the 'inner frame' such that you can utilize the rounded frame.
It is wonderful. Please work and release it as soon as you can
Wow , really good ...
is it a new addon , or just an hacking of tapres.dll or cprog.exe ?
hanmin,
The rounded frame is actually just simulate a place where the picture will be. I understand this problem but for me I'm Ok with it. I may create another which without frame next time.
TofClock,
I'm hacking base on Eten dial pad Etphone.dll.
All,
I'm just finish the portrait skin, I may not include landscape now maybe will do it in future, so I will package the "Pauly-A_Skin_Grey" landscape skin into cab for now. Will release it tmr after back from my work.
Is this skin full working with smart dialing ??
because smartdialing won't work with smartdialer ....
hi nice work!
will this be compatible with other phones? ie the wizard?
S
Yeah, it looks very great!
Please post the CAB-File so that we can try it out! I will test it on a HTC Alpine!
hum .... protected cabfile ....
i've to hack it ... sorry
Files
Here is all the files in my cab.
i've already all the files and the registry settings ...
this is a really nice work
thanks for your work and files
What about samrt dialing compatibility ?
ok , i've tested tour skin , it's really beautifull
but , in the progress screen , the photo has not same size as the designed place ...
no speaker on button ?
do you think is it possible to make , in the progresse screen , a button to launch another application ?

Request - Phone Skin!

Guys,
Not sure which version has the phone skin as below but I know it is not the HTC or Vodafone. If possible can someone please dump and zip the relevant files for this skin if they have it (English version).
Just to add, I have tried to disable the operator skin but it then only gives me a 2D plain pad with no Video Button etc...
Many Thanks
There are some phone skins HERE in the wiki, however, I don't think the one your looking for is there...yet.
Thanks, I had already tried all the skins listed. I presume this one is the default "3D" WM5 phone Skin, not positive though. Most have replaced this with their own skin in the actual rom rather than external rom.
Someone must have this though, perhaps on Orange, 02 or Dopod version.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I think I got it all...

This is the default installed dialpad from the latest Hermes i-Mate ROM.
Hopefully I got every BMP and DLL file associated with this dialpad. I also exported the registry items associated with this dialpad.
Try this:
Unzip the files into the Windows directory on the Hermes, then import the included registry file.
Let me know if I missed anything.
Thanks Freshster,
After some persevering with copying the files over all looks fine except the VT Button, for some reason this is still the same as before despite the files being overwritten. I also have VCBtn.. and VTBtn.. files (may be due to previous installs. I have renamed your files to these, and copied them over, this changes the button but it is not perfect as there are pink corners visible and the is no text etc.. on it.
Also looks like the .dll that contains the Call History Icons overwrites the Icon that displays the "G" "U" in the top bar, I used to have 3G etc.. but now have "G" and "U".
Also, the Icons whilst in the Video page have not changed.
One more thing thing, the IntelliDialler small icons are not there either, on my v1650 they are in a file called "indialer_calltype.bmp", in fact need all the Intellidialler files..... as mine is all grey.
Have played for a while now but am at a loss, sorry.....
Any advise appreciated.
Greatly appreciate you time on this.

Hi cieplowsk,
I have attached ALL of the BMP files currently in the i-Mate ROM Windows directory. This should help you find which images you are missing.
I don't know if I can help you with the G and U problem, but these BMPs should help fix the VT Button, Video page, and Intellidialer icons.
Let me know how it goes.
Copying all the files, once I had removed non phone connected ones worked a treat, I now have the iMate Dialer which in my opinion is much nicer than the Vodafone and HTC ones....
The only thing left is for someone to butcher the .DLL`s to remove the Call History icons and stick them back in to the original Vodafone ones so that we can keep the 3G network icons rather than the U and G icons.
Oh and create a CAB file. Not asking much am I!
Thanks again for your time and effort!
Thanks. Just installed it too!
Cab would be great too.
One more thing I have just noticed, after changing the background on the phone pad, is thet the Video button and the other buttons on the Video Call page do not have transparent corners.
I have just spent a while editing the bmp`s and colouring the corners with colour R=255, G=0, B=255 (Magenta) in Corel Photo Paint (did not change the bmp format and it appears to be the same as the other bmps which are correct). When loaded the corners actually come out magenta rather than transparent. I guess I am missing something somewhere Any budding artists out there care to elighten me or have a go?
Cheers.
Hi cieplowski,
I had the same problem, but after adding the registry keys in the previous post it will work.
I've made a CAB file so you can install it in one go.
Cheers,
Drifter
Thanks Drifter,
Nice work but I think that there may be an isssue as when I install it does not skin the Video button at all, not sur if some files are missing from the cab. Have tried 3 times now.
Cheers!
Did you try a Soft Reset after installation?
CAB file seems to work with my HTC.
Cheers,
Drifter
Yeah several times, will try again later tonight. May be down to the fact I have the Vodafone version and the phone pad is in rom...
If I manually copy over the files it is ok.
On the other point re. the corners of the Video button, even if I import the reg. settings, then change the wallpaper to something lighter in colour the corners are not transparent, it you edit the .bmp files you can see that the corners on the video button are not transparent but filled in.
Cheers.

How did you create the CAB? What prog did you use?
It seems that you are missing some files in there, like the important DLL files listed in the registry settings. You have also included some unnecessary BMP files.
Thanks for your work.
Freshster,
I've used your second post with attachment to make this cab file.
But used the registry key from the first.
Now I see these dll file from the first and forgot to implement them in my cab file.
This could be the problem for cieplowski.
I will make a new one but should I use the first or second post?
I've use WinCE Cab manager for making these files

Hi Drifter,
Please find attached .zip with all the necessary files, I think. not sure if you know how but many of the .bmp`s are missing transparent corners.
You can see this if you view them as thumbnails or open them. This does cause a problem if you change the background from the default one supplied as some of the buttons no longer have nice rounded corners.
I have tried to edit them as mentioned above but have not been successful.
Can someone advise on what program to use to make these transparent and the process. I am happy to edit them all but just need to know the process.
Cheers.

This does look like all of the files necessary.
For the transparency problem I would take a look at the following link and make sure you are doing everything correctly:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,36/id,5075/#5075
The two things that I would be sure of is:
1) the transparent color is : RGB=FF,00,FF (255,0,255)
2) you have to create buttons and background in bmp 8 bits 256 colors
Hope this helps, but the original files should have worked for you, not unless your ROM is looking for a different transparency color. Which ROM are you using? Can you post screenshots of the problem images?
Hi Freshter,
I cannot post anything at the moment as left my phone at the office. However if you have time could you change the Bkgnd_Land.bmp file to one much lighter in colour, hopefully you will then see that the corners are not transparent on the Video Call button (and all other vidoe related buttons). From what I can see using the supplied background just disguises these corners. If you open, for example, VTBtnDn_Port.BMP in any editor or viewer you will see that the corners are not transparent (magenta) in colour and they even have a gradient so cannot be transparent.
I am pretty sure the rom and all eles is ok, as the other files, which if examined will show the corners as a magenta colour and these are transparent on my phone, it is only all the Video related buttons which do not have the transparency on them.
I shall keep looking to see why my efforts were not successful in sorting the corners so far.
Cheeers.
Hope this explains things a little better.

I made the background lighter and I see what you mean now.
It seems that the Video buttons may have something to do with a resource dll, but I can't find which one it is.
Check out the following link; it shows how to fix the Video button on a MDA Pro, but our ROM doesn't contain the "phcanlrc.dll" or the "phcanprc.dll" files to modify.
http://buzzdev.net/component/option...view/id,13650/catid,36/limit,15/limitstart,0/
This is something to really think about.
I guess you could just modify the BMP files to match your background, but that would be tedious.

Manual Dialer Skin Install

Im just curious, but how do you manually install a dialer skin? I have found alot of dialer skins for the mogul that are really cool, but they are not in .Cab format. I'm not exactly sure how to manually install one. Could someone please give me some info. Thanks a ton in advance.

what i do is install the big button dialer for the mogul and then the touch dialer skin cab on to the main memory to skin my phone with the default skin.
From there in the root there is a folder that says Phone Skin.
Now from here I can either photoshop the skin available or replace it with others that I find else where.
So once I install this big button dialer, there shoudl be a folder in the root directory that I can install the other skins?

If you install the big button dialer cab for the mogul. It will replace the dialer skins that are on the phone already but it wont have the Vouge buttons.
If you want to still use the Vogue type of buttons install the Touch skin cab to go with it and once you do this will place a folder in the root : not \Windows, where you can customize, delete and replace for others that you might like. I found out by experimenting and it worked for me.
I will hunt these two skins down, and start experimenting myself.

If you want i can send you the Big Button Dialer CAB, and the Touch Skin CAB that way you can start skinning from here.
Just PM and i'll send it to you or I'll upload it later because I dont have it with me at the moment (School)
Her is the Big Button Dialer cab along with the Touch Skin Cab for those that need it.
Install the Big Button Dialer cab first then the Touch. After your done soft reset your phone. This should work on all TITAN phones. It says mogul but it works on my XV6800.
Skin problems...
Okay, I've installed the Big Button thing, and then the touch skin, but when I restarted, all of the buttons are fine, except for the 1 button, which appears as the native Mogul dialer button for 1, which looks distinctly out of place. Functions fine, just looks ugly, any fix for this?

Erm, sorry, not quite advanced enough to grasp that. Is that a folder\file thing or a registry thing, if it's a registry thing, where do I edit the phone's registry?
Edit: Nevermind, remembered that HKCU is a registry path, the rest is now obvious, just need to find a registry editor.
Edit 2: Found a registry editor, problem now occurs that "Access is denied" when I try and edit that particular registry entry.

Hey can you post some of these?
"Now from here I can either photoshop the skin available or replace it with others that I find else where."
or explain a little bit how to photoshop them? I am familiar with photoshop so I dont need a walk thru, but there are 26 graphic files in the PhoneSkin directory. Which to edit?
Also, I followed these instructions and your downloads, but when I push a button, the whole button turns white. really all I am looking to do is have it turn the matching blue when I press a key (the same blue that's in the dialer window by default)
thanks.

sorry for not being clear on my post. there is a program called tdial designer by tiermann ( search for it) and this will help you creat your own skinable dialer.
this will even fix the issue when you press a button and have receive a white button display. just chose your dialer carefully. i recommend the bluefrog aka new vouge dialer.
the regurlar vouge dialer will impair some functions on your phone. once you create the skin, it will generate the picture files and a cab for you to install.
the reason why i mentioned photoshop is that i add more details onto my dialer skins and modify them more ' to look unique ' or to stand out.
hope this is what you needed.
Oh no need to apologize, your posts are great.
I do have the Tdial Designer v1.1.0
I have the BlueFrog Big Button Dialer installed
I open the Tdial Designer (TDD) and from the Options > Dialer I choose "BlueFrog (or new Touch)". Everything looks great until I click on w=one of the buttons, then the same issue arises, it just whites out the whole key. The options below the "Down:" options are no longer available. If I switch back to Options > Dialer I choose "HTC Vouge (or old Touch)", then the "Down:" options are available. I hope this makes sense.
I did try to save a few that I was testing. Looks like it outputs the files and a cab file. Am I better off just copying the files into the PhoneSkin directory or running the actual cab?
Thanks again for the help

I recommend using the CAB. Because the image files only displays the dialer in standalone more ( not in use ) but the CAB once designed properly will show a customized dialer that includes the smart dialer color customization, and even the buttons when they are pressed.
I will load up a picture of how one of my alien-reanimation themed dialer looks, along with the cab if you want to install it.
thanks for sending that it is very cool. The issue I am having now is that when I install the cab it is not over riding the default one. do I need to uninstall the blue frog dialer? when I install your cab, the default dialer comes up and not yours. I look in the remove applications and what I believe is yours is listed as MyPhoneSkin. I just cant seem to get the new themes, yours or mine to apply to the phone.

No worries. I just need some information from you first.
Do you have a stock ROM on your phone or a Custom one (for example a DCD ROM)
(uninstall all previous custom dialers you have installed; Then )
If you have a DCD ROM then all you would have to do is install my cab or yours and soft reset ( reboot ) and the new dialer should show up now.
If you have a stock ROM you would first have to install the Mogul Big Button Dialer CAB ( dont worry it a universal CAB for all 6800's ) that I will provide -- Soft reset and see if you notice a new dialer ( you might get a dialer with no dial pad, this is normal) from here install your own custom CAB that you have made or mine and soft reset to notice the change.
hey cool deal, OK I got it working. I have dcd 2.3.2 rom. I reinstalled the mogul dialer, then yours and it worked. However, when I push the buttons, the blue highlight comes on, but it is the whole key, I cannot see the number below it. Which I guess isn't an issue cause you cant see it when my finger is pushing it anyway! but I wanna make sure that this is acting properly. thanks again

Quick OEM Locking solution.

Alright guys:
Myself as plenty of you fellas are probably still seeking for a quick, light and fast solution for locking your Jewels.
Believe me I have tried every locking app that has been uploaded and they all worked great and thanks to all members that made them........
I finally came to the conclusion that the best way to lock the Jewel is with the famous Hold Down End Key. But holding down the damm end key for 3 seconds every time is not really nice.
Even though I believe it has some major positive points compared to other locking apps such as:
-Very lite, comes OEM in Windows.
-It is the real all round lock, NO hard key can remove it.
-You save space and mem by not using a third party app.
Easy Solution:
-Add a shortcut to your start menu or your programs list. No need to hold down the end key.
-Or add it to a soft key on home screen.
I provide the .exe attached, I extracted this from my device so I dont know if it works on all devices. But we all have the same .exe file in the Windows directory.
Hope this helps some one.
Greetings.
PS: I was looking for that terrible grey background image that apears when you want to unlock the device to change it for something cooler, any ideas? Thanks.

Yes good idea to use the standard WM lock. It would be considered a really good locking solution if it wasn't for the stupid, bloated HTC dialer with its big answer and reject buttons. The standard WM dialer works better with the standard lock because the incoming call notification is much more difficult to accidentally press.
Even better, if you use the standard WM (bubble popup) volume control then you can still use the volume up and down buttons with the device locked.
You can also assign Endkey.exe to the left softkey, that way you can use the same softkey to lock and unlock the device.
is there any way to change the holding the key time to something shorter than 3 seconds?
