ozVGA on imate JasJar - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Any one having problems with OzVGA on the JasJar
This is a bare bones machine bought from Expansys in the UK with a Vodafone UK Contract
Have flash the rom with the latest from Club imate, and then tried to install OsVGA, unfortunately when it restarts I get a single white screen with a 'select' and 'exit' buttons on the bottom, cannot get any further
Keiff

did you copy the modified .dll files to the \windows directory?
Wolfgang

Yes, straight into the root folder, and then copy of the exe into Program Files, it runs fine, and then I select OsVGA, it resets, and I get the white screen, cannot get any further, no matter what I try
I did a hard reset, reinstalled just OsVGA and still the same problem

Did you do the de-certification patch? Have you read over the VGA files thread?
V

Thanks stupidly I search on ozvga, not vga otherwise I would have seen the entire post, read it, install it and had it working without looking like a complete newbie
Anyway thanks for all the help
Just got to get battery pack pro working on it now

HELP! RSU update crashed! I tried it all: my MDA is dead!

Hello there,
I have a MDA from T-Mobile germany PW10A2 with an RUU version which was probably 3-13-12-GER and a RSU which was probably T360.
I dowloaded 2 update files on the site of T-mobile germany:
http://www.t-mobile.de/shop/handy/1,4855,2963-_50-0-99,00.html
- t_mobile_mda_ppc_update_v3_19_03.exe
- t_mobile_mda_gsm_gprs_update_v3_23.exe
Since I wrotte them an Email, no answer, and the page has been cancelled.
What have I done:
- I installed the PPC 3.19.03 through Activesync: no problem
- I then installed the GSM GPRS update: once it started updating on my MDA at 10% it kept stucked. After 20 mn I decided to interrupt.
Since that day I have the white screen with the litle keyboard down right and that's about it.
My boot loader is V5.15. when it runs it displays "WAIT", and then "GSM ERROR"
As suggested in this Forum, I bought an SD Card, and a card reader writter, I wrote the RUU file NK.nbf contained in the downloaded .exe file from T-mobile. I flashed my room (proposed when I cold reseted the Wallaby) and then : NOTHING HAS CHANGED !!!
I tried again with a cooked Rom flashing a NK.nb1 file and... I got the ROMKitchen splash screen and... nothig else.
The display stays all white, you can read "this ROM was cooked in the ROM Kitchen" all on top af the screen and in the lower right side I still have the keyboard Icon.
Now I'm really worried !
Does any one have a suggestion ?...I believe my problem is realy serious.
Pascal
Hate to tell u that mate, but if your device can't be recognized by ActiveSync, then the only action is to get the device to be repaired by a specialized center or replaced.
However, check this topic carefully .. it might help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4123
Good luck
Good news bad news
I have an SX56 with att, I had the same problem. rsupgrade failing at 1%, hard reset, and then the device white screned. First, downgrade the rom. Find the old update program, open it with winzip (or winrar) and you should be able to extract the rom image. get http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XDAtools place the rom on an sd, softboot while holding down the power button. the device will now offer you the option to load the rom from the sd, do so. once this is done the device should display the old roms ID. If this works, format the SD card, create a directory 2577 copy the program RSUpgrade and associated files, rename it as autoexec insert the card in the phone, and you should be able to reflash the RSU, if this fails.... time to break out the jtag header or be ready to send the unit in
My MDA is dead and buried
Thanks to both of you guys, for your concern.
I had actualy already tried your proposed solutions (I had found in this forum except yours rszasz).
My MDA is less than 2 years old and I took it to a T-mobile shop in germany (during a business trip). They're proposing either to repair it, or to replace it (The guarantee is still runing).
After having flashed a cooked a rom in the kitchen, I still had the same problem, so in the perspective to bring it back to a T-mobile store, I reflashed the faulty file I had downloaded on the T-mobile Web site.
I hoppe they won't find out and make any trouble.
I like this MDA so much, I don't remember how it was without it !
All the best

Unlocking extended ROM

Really sorry - can someone point me in the direction of a tool that unlocks the extended ROM for a Wizard? I'ves searched but I can't find Am I being blind?
I need to free up some space and want to get rid of those imate .tsk files but need to unlock the ROM first.
Thanks
Mat

Ok Total commander gives you access to the extended rom using the method just posted above.
But if you want to actually have the extended rom showing all time, then you need this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33680&highlight=extended+rom
The extended rom unlocker will give the actual extended rom as space deginated extended_rom2 and its about 9.85mb size or something with between about 350kb and 2.5mb of .cab files in it depending on whether its a Qtek (Which has the least amount of files), I-mate, o2 or T-Mobile, these last two probably (along with Orange) will have the most 'junk in them.
Once you have ran the exteneded rom unlocker and soft reset your device it will be accesible through file explorer you won't need TC.
You can then go in and delete (be careful to make sure what everything does first) its your own responsibility, and remove what you don't need.
For example on the I-mate Extended Rom you cane remove Backgammon, Skype and the anti virus prog. There wasn't much on the Qtek Rom I just put on mine just clearvue and soemthing else inconsequential, there was no skype or antivirus, but I believe some Qtek roms might have this.
T-Mobile is abother story, there is a shedload of crap in the extended rom, ranging from a today screen toolbar to small progs, there is list knocking about of what each file does. When I changed from T-Mob to I-mate and then Qtek I just transferred the T-Mobile GPRS settings and the GPRS disconnect button .cab and put them in the exteneded Rom myself and let it run.
Also on I-mate Rom there are carrier settings that you can delete which won't apply to you, basically lots fo countries phone settings, like o2 UK, T-Mobile Spain etc etc, depending on where you are in the world.
You can't delete the I-mate .tsk todayscreens as far as I know, they are not in the ExtRom. The Qtek ExtROm doesn't have the extra .tsk's just default and the Guava Bubbles one.
If anyone wants the T-Mobile GPRS .cab and GPRS disconnect button .cab I can send it through msn or email.
that doesn't work either. I treid with the unlocker and deleted the files with TC. If i check the content no files are there, but when i try to copy other files to the ext. Rom it says that the volume is write protected. I softreseted several times also.
Any hint on that ? How have all the others deleted the files in extended rom ?
Regards

Might not work for you but it worked for me and a load of others. Once the extended rom is visible you can delete files easily, you don't need TC like I said. Its easier to put additional cabs into my documents sync them across and just run them.
Yeah, that's a pitty.... I have the Vodafone VPA Compact II, which is the Wizard 100 afaik.
Someone around here has the same model and succeeded in removing the cabs from the extended rom ?

ozVGA killed my exec

Hi all,
First post and all that, so hi! I've been lurking for a few days, but thought i'd post this as a) I might be doing something wrong, and b) if i'm not, it might help someone..
Basically, I installed ozVGA last night, and it turned my exec into a nice-looking, albeit ineffective doorstop.
I may have done this completely wrong, let me know if i did, as i really would like a 640x480 res
This is what i did:
1. I had upgraded my exec to the latest ROM released by o2.
2. I downloaded ozVGA from http://oz.sciox.org/
3. I followed the instructions on the above URL.
a) "unzip this file VgaRes.zip and put its contents to the \windows directory"
b) After that you will need to unzip this file OzVGA053.zip and place OzVGA.exe file wherever you want on your PDA
4. I launched ozVGA
5. I pressed the ozVGA button, it rebooted, the o2 bubbles screen with the red writing stating the ROM versions etc. appeared, and the SELECT and EXIT buttons were visible at the bottom. These were in the 640x480 resolution! Yey!
6. But...it stayed on that screen for a long, long time. It would not progress from that screen no matter what I tried, or how long i waited.
7. in the end, i had to do a factory reset, then install the new o2 rom again.
So... did i do something wrong :S I hope i did - as i would really like to have my exec in 640x480!
Cheers for any help
You need the VGA res files that are on the xda-developers ftp. The ones on the OzVGA site don't work IIRC.
You didn't need to install the ROM again. A normal hard-reset would have been fine.
Thanks for replying rilot.
Are the files you mention at the start of this thread?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32217
If so, they dont actually seem to be on the FTP site.
Also, in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37448
"Soft resets result in it powering backon, but stopping at the boot screen, after displaying the ROM versions in red text. "
The poster also says: "I had just installed OzVGA, and was testing it when this occurred, but that is probably just a coincidence"
Do you think this could be related? Just wondering
Grab them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=7513
I've never had any problem with running my Exec in VGA mode. I don't actually use OzVGA though. I hack the registry manually.
Those files bricked my m5000
I just downloaded the zip archive from your link, unzipped, copied the windows file folder contents to the windows folder on the spv m5000(orange switzerland), and the ozVGA.exe to the programs folder, then started the .exe.
Result: the well known imitation of a brick. The thing booted to the orange screen with the red version info, then stayed there with two buttons showing at the bottom of the screen. These buttons did show the small VGA font, but none of them caused anything to happen. Soft resets didn't help either.
A hard reset worked (without re-installing the ROM) and I'm now back to where I was before.
Has anyone with an orange device had any other(better) experiences with ozVGA?

Right, that's 2 deaths from ozvga... if this can be confirmed, is it worth adding a sticky on this forum or something?
Did you run the signing app (sdkcerts.cab) after coying the files?
If not, that's your problem.

ahh
it's not mentioned until the 3rd page http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...der=asc&highlight=sdkcerts+cab+ozvga&start=50

Right then - before i try it again, is there a way to back up *everything* on my universal? So i dont have to go through the misery of setting everything up again if it goes wrong?

Sunnysoft's Backup Manager works well for me. But don't rely on restore from a backup after a ROM upgrade, since you will be overwriting those newly upgraded files with possibly older versions. Another useful trick for those difficult to configure apps, is a registry export.
As for the OzVGA glitch. Yep, the culprit is not running the signing app (sdkcerts.cab) after coying the files. Forgot to do this once myself, just at the end of re-installing everything after a ROM upgrade , so had to start again.

Weird enough, but after the hard reset, I tried again last night, and this time it worked. Beautiful VGA bliss on my m5000. A million thanks to the authors.
Now I can hardly wait for the international (german) version of vj555's BigPhone.
So just to check (before I end up hard resetting from not following instructions!) In the VGA files I downloaded from this thread, it contains ozVGA.exe, some files that need copying to my windows directory and sdkcerts.cab.
What order do I do things? I would first copy the windows files and the ozVGA.exe, then run the sdkcers.cab I take it i then need to soft reset. Where do I put ozVGA.exe? Does it just perform a registry hack or does it need to be placed in the Startup folder so it runs every time I soft reset?
Any help would be great!
Cheers
Fin
1. Copy files
2. Run SDKCerts.cab
3. Run OzVGA
4. Soft reset
OzVGA performs registry hacks so doesn't need to be placed in start-up.
Thanks for your help. Will try it tonight!

Stuck at Step1. None of .dlls or gifs that already exist can be overwritten!
2. I am able to copy SDKCerts.cab in the WIndows folder and run it.
Tried a soft reset as well. But still can not do the step 1.
Please advise.
to all,
look at new Helmi3.5 rom
ozvga is integratted
very easy to use and if necessary to revert back to qvga
Those who stuck at the boot screen, suspect that it is not properly install.
Only way out is hard reset, you will lose everything if you do not have the habit of backup.
You need to copy the *.96.* files into Windows directory. Think Windows hang when seaching for this files.

I see your post is sent WELL after I've published the tutorial on all these questions (see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1197&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ). Please make sure you follow my latest articles; they are all cross-posted to the General forum here at XDA-Dev.

OzVGA v0.53
Noting the cumbersome method of installing/uninstalling OzVGA - I just decided to make a CAB Installer from the resources listed in this thread.
Also, given the fact that http://oz.sciox.org seems to be offline or maybe defaced, the attached archive might become even more relevant.
The attachment, OzVGA v0.53.zip, contains 2 CAB files:
1. OzVGA + DLLs
2. SdkCerts for DLLs
It's advisable to run the CABs in the order above.

02 xda exec upgrade to imate

I want to upgrade my 02 rom to the imate rom
which imate rom supports the aku2 patch, as o2 dont know when there going to release this support.
this is also my question, is it possible to use Imate Jasjar ROM for O2 Exec, and where i can get it , then i can use O2 software on new ROM ? Thank you.
YES!
I upgraded my O2 Exec to the new i-mate ROM and man.. it's like owning a completely different machine.
plenty of memory left ( i guess memory leaks were mostly fixed)
dazzling speed.
machine doesn't get stuck several times a day.
I am happy.
You have the official ROM. Search through it, I don't know in which thread I saw it, but the filename is: JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip
You should be able find it here using the search button.
Then you need to use a tool called maupgradeut_noid_645.exe
Also available here. It will allow to install the JASJAR ROM on O2 Exec. But I think your warrenty will voice.. unless you revert back to the O2 ROM which is downloadable from my-xda.com
MOBILER
Sorry again, i have this question, my XDA Exec is unlocked by deffault, after updated with the Imate ROM, is my Exec still unlocked ? Thank you.
yes your exec will still be unlocked. I have an exec with a Orange simcard and the latest imate rom. No problems.

From the link under i-mate in the wiki page for universal
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Upgrades
go to ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/
Get the file JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip. About 64Mb. Unzip the file twice & you will get the readme.doc file for the instruction.
Any idea where i can find maupgradeut_noid_645.exe? Tried search and tried the ftp, no luck.

Thanks for your replies and PMs, i-Mate rom is now installed
Also got fed up with waiting for O2 update and tonight loaded the imate rom and push email is working nicely . I will try and post some instructions tomorrow if I get chance.
what should be the final specs
mine are ROM 1.13.82 WWE
rom date 11/30/05
radio 1.09.00
protocol 42.42.P8
Ext ROM 1.13.188 WWE
ihave downloaded imate JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship should I update with this my O2 EXEC
Please advise
Here is the process as promised. There isnt too much too it so hopefully you will be able to understand my ramblings.
You need the Imate JASJAR rom file which I downloaded from
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/Shipped_Complete_Updates/
The file that you need is JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip.
First thing to do is to extract the files in the exe. There are two ways you could do this.
You can do this by running the exe file this will extract the files into a temporary directory in your profile.. for example c:\documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Temp, look for a very recently created directory in there, don’t ok the error message that you get when you run the exe as it will delete the temporary files. Just copy the files out of the temp directory somewhere else.
OR
You can use winrar to extract the files from the exe. Extract all the files into a single flat directory. Remove all directory structures so that you are left with just one directory containing all the files. (didnt try this way but I presume it will work)
Then download this file
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Tools/MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip
Extract the .exe in there to the same directory containing all your other files.
Then you need to make a small change to one of the text files. Look in the directory for
RUU.conf
Open it in notepad and add this line
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
then save it
That’s about it…..
Usual wavers at this point.. upgrading flash may lead to dead device.. do so at your own risk… invalidate warranty…etc etc
Once you have plucked up the courage connect your device up to Active sync and run the exe file that was contained in the MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip file that you downloaded.
It seemed to take around 30 mins for the whole update process.
Im just going through adding my applications again and setting up the Vodafone GPRS configuration but so far seems fine and push email works nice and fast so I am pleased I have made the change.
Hi jwarbutron,
Thanks for the walkthrough, Im following your instructions and have now started the upgrade.
I got past the screen where it tells me my current version numbers and what the new versions will be. I said OK, go for it, and now its displaying the 'Checking the information on your device .. please wait ..' screen, I presume I just wait for 30 mins or so and the upgrade is complete? There isn't a progress bar or another screen Im supposed to see?
Cheers
Nas
hanks jwarbutron,
Your procedure works like a charm Thanks once again . Pl let me know how to get original #D phone pad interface
Unfortunately it didn't work for me, I left my phone plugged in for about 4 hours, it still just displayed the checking page, and now my phone wont start. Switching it on, I see some text in portrait mode saying usb at the top, and v1.00 at the bottom.
I'll dig around this forum to see if I can find a solution.
Nas
Third attempt looks to be good though! Got the progress bar, upgrading now...
Nas
Just updated last night, and good grief the imate ROM is so much better.
Its much smoother, quicker and generally a much more pleasant experience.
Very much recommended to anyone who who has the Exec.
Cheers
Rich
Well, my upgrade completed, but I still get the portrait page with USB at the top and v1.00 at the bottom. The upgrade said it had completed successfully, is there a step I have missed?
Cheers
Nas
Im starting the upgrade again to see if I missed anything, I have the screen with the progress bar, so I know its doing *something*.
While its going, any ideas what I might of missed?
Thanks
Nas

Is there a way to get the full i-mate blue skin with TyTn?

I hate the green look & feel but changed to the South African TyTn ROM as reccomended here. Now, the dialer, the Comm Manager and others are Green. I would like to give the phone the entire JasJam look & feel without HR. Any idea how should I do it?
goto the wiki and download the cab file from the extended ROM.
No good... :-(
The problem is that I cannot write into the exended ROM in this version. I always get an error: Media Protected.
I tried fit4cat & the cab from WIKI. Both did not help. Is there a way for me to run this from another place than the Ext. ROM?
hi, once you downloadthe extended rom from the wiki, just extract all the cabs to your PC and copy the required CAB to your devices main memory or sd card. then run it from your ppc.
it shoudl work, you dont have to copy it to your ext.rom
Thanks mate for trying to help but I'm afraid it does not work for me. Took JasJam Ext. ROM and tried to run it from the memory card. It says "customizing" but I keep "enjoying" the HTC green. I have no idea why but somehow the i-mate skins do not appear in the Today settings after I install the CAB.
Don't run the auto-run. Just run each cab file one at a time.
which cab file deom the jasjam ext.rom do i need in order to get the imate blue skin?
Running all the cabs from the SD does not work for me. Which cab is creating this skin? Am I the only one who doesn't like the TyTn green?
no ronen!
i want to have the JASJAM as well! the green thing is ugly!
i have the trinity (it use the name green look & feel) as the TYTN.
what do i need to install in order to have the JASJAM look and feel?
רונן אחי הוא מדהים!! מכשיר מדהים
I have the same problem as RonenB. Alos for South Africa with the same ROM.
Has anyone resolved this issue yet?

Looking and searching everywhere, I couldn't find an answer to the same problem.
Running the Qtek AUK 3.3 ROM, I can then install a blue skin, however, the colours used in the dialer make it hard to read: black text, on blue button.
I have manually installed all the cab file located in the original JasJam EXTROM, but it will not change the green/lime colour used by default in the Qtek.
If I reset the jasjam with the Qtek ROM just after a hard reset, then it'll use the blue skin (which appears to be the default) but in this case the smart dialler will not be activated.
Thanks for your answers.
