Special Characters Mapped wrong

I just realized that several special characters are mapped wrongly on my keyboard. For example, when I press the "?", the blue dot and "F" key, I get a dash instead of a "?".
Has anyone seen this problem? And is there a fix for it? I have the Cingular 8525. About 4-5 special characters are mapped wrong.
Ugh.
what rom did you flash your 8525 too? or what cabs have you put in your ext rom?

OK. Are you talking about the section that describes restoring local language support for sliding keyboard? I already had those key/values suggested. But it still has the problem.
Someone mentioned it was a cab that loaded the mapping. Anyone know which one? I'll take a look to see if it's obvious.
None of the below extcab looks to be for keyboard.
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_PC_Hermes_GenericLight_REG_060609.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_Cingular_GoodEmail_081606.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_getmail.ppc2005(HTC8100).ARMV4Rel.cingular.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_HSDPA_Wirelss_Modem_Stall.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_Hermes_MobiTV.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\C_GetTeleNav.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\T_mm1lib_DLL.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_PIE_Default.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\SMS_Setting_07Jun06.CAB
Go Here....http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
then look for
Restore local language support for sliding keyboard after upgrade to a different language ROM
Now you will have to try to figure out which ID you need. I think the english on is the one you are currently using now. You may need to ask a 8525 user to check their registry for the language code you need.

Yup, that's what I have. So it appears that isn't the cause of my problem.
I think you have to look at
HKLM\Software\OEM\Qwerty\"Layout"=263177 (integer)
The CAB file is in Cingular's 1.30 ExtROM:
ShortString_Keypad_XML.CAB
If this is correct, please add it to the wiki FAQs.

If that cab is required to map the keys, why is it only on the older rom?

How to enable autorun on first boot?

Hi all,
I'm building my own touch rom and i had a question:
How do i enable autorun on first boot to load a .tsk file.
I've searched and tried a couple of thins but it dind't work.
Gr. bram
you must edit your extended ROM for that or just replace Default_stwater_xxxx.gif files in Windows directory to make default theme. For color it's in the default.hv file

Allright, thnx for help, lets see if it works!!
Gr. bram
other help :
In the Extended ROM use cusTSK.exe
in "Config.txt" add a line like :
Code:
EXEC:\Windows\cusTSK.exe \Windows\bram_smulders_TSK.tsk
That 2 ways to do the same things.
Have a good ROM coocking
You better use the cusTSK.exe method (extended rom, autorun) because if you use an OEM package with registry settings you will have a bug:
When u go and change to another theme on your rom, then go back to the default, the colors will not be the ones you set on the reg settings, but the wm6 default ones.
So better use the CusTSK.exe, that way you dont mess with the registry and you wont have any bugs.

No ! Not in OEMfolder but in Extended ROM, and the line of code in the config.txt from Extended ROMtoo
Most new ELF extracted Roms don't have Ext rom anymore.
Indeed noonski,
i've got it working via another way, but now it launches every boot, and that's very anoying...
Hmmm... mayb i have to write an own ext rom for the touch.
anyone experience with this?

SPB Diamond Theme question

I use the Diamond Theme with my Polaris and it works like a charm! I just tried to translate every single menu content link from english into my own language but in the menu Messaging i am not able to.
In every single Key in registry there was the possibility to change the "Text" values (example: Multimedia Folder).
But in the Messaging Folder i cannot find the keys to change from "New Text Message" into something else.
Is there any possibility to do that?
where can i find this please ?
You can find it here:

Fairly minor cosmetic tweaks, really. It changes "Recents" to "History" and "Details" to " " (blank) Just something I personally prefer.
@ keko001 : You can use your own language files by changing the settings.ini file to Language=yourownfile.lng and it will be these graphics with your language.

[TUTORIAL] Translate a ROM using Github

Hi guys this is my first tutorial here!
I'm not a developer but i want to contribute for the community, so some time ago i started translation of my favourite rom, the Mahdi ROM. That was about March 2014. As of now I've started a new project: translations for Chroma ROM (June 2015)
You need only one thing: the rom has to be open source on github.
So, let's start.
First, go to the rom sources on github and open the apk you want to translate. The most important directories are three:
Settings in /android_packages_apps_Settings
SystemUI in /android_frameworks_base/packages/systemUI
Core in /android_frameworks_base/core
1) to find file(s) to translate you have to go in the directory and then in the folder res.
2) now, it's full of folders but you only need two of them. open in two tabs of your browser values and values-xx (xx are two letters that determinate your language, e.g. "it" for italian and "fr" for french).
3) in values you have to find the file "name-of-the-rom-strings.xml". this is the file you'll translate. now in values-xx, open the file "name-of-the-rom-strings.xml" and click on edit. probably in values-xx folder you won't find the file "name-of-the-rom-strings.xml", if so, click on the "+" near to the name of the directory and create a new file called like the previous one. remember the extension (.xml)
4) now, copy all strings from "name-of-the-rom-strings.xml" in values and paste in the file you were editing in values-xx. now you are ready to translate the rom, read tips down here.
Click to collapse
What if the folder values-xx doesn't exist?
No problem. Click on the "+" icon to create a file, and write values-xx/***. The slash create a new folder. Et voilà!
Click to collapse
READ:
1) you only have to translate what's between ><
2) before every ' , add a slash like this \, so if you want to write don't, write don\'t
3) DO NOT translate strings which say translatable=false, delete those strings
4) do not add >< or "" or "string". just change what's between ><. Good luck!
Click to collapse

Thanks for this tutorial!
I do have a question.
I'm tring to translate every single English word to my language (Dutch)
But where do I find the words that are still in English?
In the picture I uploaded are 2 examples.
You see 'UI Settings' and 'Performance' still in English.
Can you help me?

A guy just told me that he already sent a request for a part of my translations but I didn't see them before starting to translate. Everything was in English on the "rom_strings.xml" file into values-fr folder.
actually, i don't know :c

Here is the answer:
1. From the main page of a package eg "Mahdi-Rom/android_packages_apps_Settings" click on "Pull requests" on the right (if any)
2. Select a commit
3. Select "Files changed" tab
4. We can see the original lines in red and the modifications in green
Op updated for when there isn't values-xx folder in the package ?

Hi,
I want to start translating the English stuff to Dutch.
And I noticed there is not a mahdi_strings.xml in Dutch yet.
So I have to add that right?
But there is so much to translate from mahdi_strings.xml.
A lot of English words are probably already translated.
How do I figure that out?
